The Yanks are coming!

The NFL has moved this weekend's game between the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings to Monday night because of a blizzard that hit Minneapolis.

Kickoff was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Sunday.

"Due to the severe weather conditions and on the recommendation of Metrodome officials, the Giants-Vikings game will be moved to Monday night," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement. "The kickoff time at the Metrodome and television arrangements will be announced as soon as they are determined."

Pat Hanlon/New York Giants The New York Giants were stranded in Kansas City after a blizzard caused their plane to land before reaching Minnesota.

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is aiming to make his 298th straight start, extending his own NFL record, despite a sprained shoulder that has made throwing difficult. He's listed as questionable to play the Giants.

The Giants couldn't reach Minneapolis on Saturday. The team is spending the night in Kansas City.

Two feet of snow is expected from this storm, which caused the Giants to change their plans earlier on Saturday morning. They left New Jersey around 9:30 a.m., about 3½ hours earlier than their usual charter flights. They hoped to get to Minnesota before the worst of the storm.

The inflatable Teflon roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis has collapsed under the weight of snow after a heavy storm passed through Saturday.

The roof's failure called into question the Minnesota Vikings' Monday night game against the New York Giants, which was already postponed after the Giants' flight was diverted Saturday to Kansas City as area air travel was shut down.

A photograph published on the website of KARE 11 TV and video on the NFL Network showed the Metrodome void of the familiar white expanse that normally covers the Vikings' stadium. A leak on the roof had formed Saturday as snow accumulated, ESPN's Ed Werder reported.

Minneapolis and much of the upper Midwest have been hit by a blizzard that has dumped up to 20 inches of snow in some areas.

The Metrodome is operated by the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission. Its executive director, Bill Lester, said Sunday morning the damage is being assessed and the agency will issue a statement later. He says he has no details yet on what happened.

The Giants (8-4) and Vikings (5-7) were originally scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, but the game was postponed until 8 p.m. ET Monday. FOX was to have regional coverage of the game in both Minnesota and New York.

Current speculation by Chris Mortenson has the game still played Monday night, possibly at Ford Field. TCF Bank Stadium (new UM Gophers stadium) is possible, but it is outdoors, the temperatures are expected to be quite chilly (wind chills at -20°F), and the Giants expected to be playing indoors and did not travel with cold-weather gear.
