The following is a revised edition of the shadow information, and the different classes. Hopefully, this will be more informative than the other two editions, and give you a better idea of what shadows are. If questions occur as result of this new edition, please, feel free to contact me by the Questions forum, PM, or even e-mail Robin_D00m@yahoo.com I am more than happy to clear up any confusion. With that in mind, here is the index, and actual information on shadows: 1. Introduction 2. Purpose of Them 3. How to Become One 4. The Classes & Powers 5. The Cons of the Life 6. How Death Occurs 7. Other Notes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Introduction to Shadows Shadows are soulless creatures of the night, which were, at one point in time, among those with souls. They have all been lured to the side of darkness by another shadow, the Goddess of Shadows, or have been forced into the life of a shadow by one of the two. There also is a special type of shadow, which has a soul, but tainted blood, which is far worse than any lack of soul. Though, no two shadows are alike, and their personalities can vary greatly. However, in their current state with a lack of soul, or tainted blood, they tend to have views darkened, but this is not always the case. Also, every shadow has the mark of night (red heart with black wings) located on their body, with the exceptions of those who remove the skin on which the mark is placed, and those of tainted blood. The location of this mark varies with each shadow, and appears after their transformation. There are also classes among the shadows, which affect their life significantly, and how they may be brought down. It is within this article you will be able to find out more details about the creatures known as shadows, and how their lives vary from those of normal beings. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Purpose of Shadows The purpose of shadows is one lacking much logic. Truly, their only reason of existence is that Hoshiko, Goddess of Shadows, found herself in a state of darkened depression during her time as Love Goddess. This state came after the death of her messenger, whom she was suspected to have a romantic relationship with. It was after this death she found the darkest corner of her mind calling to her, giving her the idea of becoming a fallen goddess. With the transformation from Goddess of Love to Goddess of Shadows she was able to gain new powers, which allowed her to spread destruction across the world. So, that’s what happened. Hoshiko went around promising a paradise to those she knew wished for one, only to steal their souls instead, and increase her demonic powers. Thus was the creation of shadows, and the start of Syumo’s new age. Now today their only real purpose is to find others with souls, and bring them to their goddess, spreading destruction still in the process. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. How to Become a Shadow Becoming a shadow has many different ways of occurring, some of which are more painful than others. For starters there is the most basic way: be confronted by Hoshiko, Goddess of Shadows, and accept her offer of paradise. With this method, intense pain occurs with the ripping of the soul from the holder’s body, which then transfers over to the goddess. Also, the soul of the holder appears as a golden light, then transfers from their body to the body of the fallen goddess visibly. At the finish of the process of soul stealing with this method, the person has their mind warped, so it seems as if Hoshiko really did grant them access to a greater paradise. Not to mention their memory of the stolen soul is erased. It is because of this mind warping, she seems like a true goddess, and not just a fallen one. A second method known is rather odd one, in the way the target keeps their soul, but instead has their blood tainted with sin. This process occurs when Hoshiko corners a target, having them all to herself, or in a position so that they may not escape, or be aided. It begins simple enough, with the goddess lowering to kiss the victim on their mouth. During the kiss is when a special toxin arises from the female's body, rising up until it reaches the other's mouth. Upon entrance, the toxin starts to find its way into the victim's blood, multiplying and gradually processing through it as time passes. This process can also be completed by the goddess placing her mouth upon an open wound, really she just needs access to an opening, through which the toxin can transfer. It takes about two minutes, during which unbelievable pain is felt, for the process to be completed. However, after the time is up the pain quickly disappears, living nothing more than a class six shadow. Another method of transformation from normal person to shadow can only occur with a shadow higher than class three. With this method, the shadow literally sucks the soul from the victims’ body. The process of sucking the victims’ soul occurs when the shadow is able to place their mouth against that of the victims’, and create a suction which lasts long enough to withdraw the soul. After withdrawn, the soul automatically finds its way to the goddess. While pain is limited here, it is still enough to cause most victims to cry out, or scream to express this. This method gives no mind warping, and usually results in shadows that want death to come, rather than continue their life. Most of the times this is a last resort method, or a method used on a victim that the targeting shadow is fond of, and wishes to have for their own. The more common, and simpler method simply is so: shadows of any class mark their victims with the Mark of Night, ( ). The marking usually occurs by the targeting shadow marking their victim by use of their index finger tracing an outline of the mark on any area, which then becomes the actual marking itself. After which, 48 hours must pass before the transformation can take place. During this time the mark weakens the person’s freewill, making them less resistance to becoming a shadow. At the end of 48 hours the marking actually withdraws the soul of the victim itself, then sends it to the goddess, and disappears. This an easier method of transformation, as after the soul is withdrawn the person is unconscious for about an hour, giving a nearby shadow or the goddess herself a chance to retrieve the person. With this process, the mind is also warped, creating the illusion that the Goddess of Shadows truly is a goddess who gives a paradise unlike any other. On a final note, this is the only process that can be canceled out by burning the actual mark off before completed.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Classes of Shadows There are exactly six shadow classes we know of at the moment, though these are still rough as knowledge of these classes is limited. Below you can find and locate each class, details on the class, and how it differs from other classes. Please read carefully, as you should make sure to take note of all the differences. Class 1: This class is the lowest of the classes, as one can probably guess. Normally shadows of this class are those who have yet to have their minds warp, and are a shadow by unwanted choice. Also, these shadows are normally ordered around by anyone in a class above them. Being treated like dirt is also common within this class. The powers are limited, and simple: -Morphing abilities are limited to only three forms total, besides their own. These three forms cannot be erased after chosen, and stay with the shadow for life. -Mind/heart reading abilities are limited so shadows of this class can only read the minds and hearts of their victims, and not those of their fellow shadows nor their goddess. -Powers limitations during the day are set so shadows of this class lose all their powers, while the sun is up in the area they live in. What this means is, while they are still shadows, they are powerless ones. -Shadows of this class can be harmed by anyone, no matter how weak their elemental powers or their abilities. Class 2: Second to lowest, but still better than the first. This class is where starting shadows usually enter, directly after becoming a shadow by freewill, or after having mind warped. They can be ordered around by anyone above them, and they in return can order around class one shadows. While they are not considered the best, they have a bit more respect on their side. With this in mind, these are their powers: -Morphing abilities are limited to only five forms total, besides their own. As with class one, these forms cannot be erased after chosen, and stay with the shadow for life. -Mind/heart reading abilities are limited so shadows of this class can only read the minds and hearts of their victims. -Powers limitations during the day are set so shadows of this class lose 75% their powers while the sun is up in the area they live in. With this power limitation, shadows of this class can only access one of their five forms. Though, mind/heart reading abilities are still available. -Shadows of this class can be harmed by anyone with some type of focused elemental power or creature attack. Class 3: Half way to top, dead in the center. This class is achieved from the start by those special ones that are in the liking of certain shadows. Otherwise, it takes skill advancements and ladder climbing to reach this. Not looked down upon as most, but still not at the top of the chain. Now then, onto the powers: -Morphing abilities are limitless. They can use as many forms as they please, without worries of being restrained to only those forms. -Mind/heart reading abilities are limited so shadows of this class can only read the minds/hearts of their victims, and shadows of class one & class two. -Powers limitations during the day are set so shadows of this class lose 50% of their powers while the sun is up in the area they live in. With this power limitation, shadows of this class can only shift into/between three forms. However, the rest of their powers are available. -Shadows of this class can be harmed only by those with advanced elemental attacks & weapon creatures. Shield creatures have no effect. -Able to become invisible during night by blending with the actual darkness. Class 4: The highest class a shadow can reach by climbing the ladder. This class is looked up to, and those of this class are considered heroes and heroines of the shadow world. So of course, they have powers unlike those of lower classes, but just by a bit: -Morphing abilities are same as class three, limitless. -Mind/heart reading abilities are limited so shadows of this class can only read the minds/hearts of their victims, shadows of class one, two, and three. -Shadows of this class can be harmed only by those of advanced light & dark elemental powers, and weapon creatures. -Able to become invisible during night by blending with actual darkness. Class 5: The highest class a shadow can be, without a soul. This class is rather special, in the way one becomes a class five shadow. To become a class five shadow, one must be targeted by a shadow or the Goddess of Shadows, but have the process of their soul being stolen fail. As a result, instead of the person's soul being stolen, the darker part of their mind is withdrawn, rising to the surface. This shadow is automatically class five, and as such has the following powers: -Limitless morphing abilities. However, they do resemble the person from which they were taken from, when not morphed. -Almost limitless mind/heart reading abilities. They can read minds of creatures, victims, shadows within their class and below. Shadows of this class also have the ability to speak mentally between themselves, though they are unable to speak mentally with shadows of lower classes. -Can only be harmed by those with advanced light & dark elemental powers. -Able to blend with the shadows of the night, making them invisible. -Has the ability to manipulate the shadows of day and night for their own use. -Temporarily able to control the mind of victims. Temporarily means, they can only have control for about ten to twenty minutes, before tiring themselves out extremely so. Class 6: The only known class which contains shadows whom happen to possess actual souls. Shadows of this class are looked up to by all, and considered almost holy, because of their ability to serve the Goddess of Shadows, and still have a soul. However, shadows of this class are often finding themselves acting as a puppet, having their minds and actions control by their goddess when she feels the need to use them in such a way. It wouldn't be so bad, but the shadows cannot remember what occurs during the time they are under her control, except memories do tend to flood into dreams. With such in mind, onward to the properties of these shadows: -Limitless morphing abilities. -Almost limitless mind/heart reading abilities. They can read minds of creatures, victims, shadows within their class and below. Shadows of this class also have the ability to speak mentally between themselves, though they are unable to speak mentally with shadows of lower classes. -Can be harmed by any elemental power, and any type of creature. -Able to blend with the shadows of the night, and day, making them invisible. -Has the ability to manipulate the shadows of day and night for their own use. -Temporarily able to control the mind of victims. Temporarily means, they can only have control for about twenty to forty minutes, before tiring themselves out extremely so. -Only shadow class with the ability of teleportation, though they can only teleport within the area of their current position. (Meaning within a city, or within a forest, etc.) (Final Class Notes: In order for a shadow of class three or below to become a higher class, one of two things must happen. They either must show loyalty to the Goddess of Shadows, causing her to believe they deserve more power, or they must connect with a shadow of class five or six, and have them approach the Goddess of Shadows with a proposal of their class being increased. The latter of the two mentioned ways is more likely to occur, but also is more likely to fail as far as actually getting the lower class shadow anywhere. When either of the two do succeed, the given shadow of the lower class feels a slight tingling feeling as new powers rush to flow into them. They usually tend to need a day or two to recover from the shock of having new powers, and often their powers are unstable for the first day or two after their increase in class.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. The Cons of the Life Being a shadow, in some ways, really doesn’t sound all that bad. So you lose your soul, or your blood’s purity, and maybe you get a little mind warping, so what? You get awesome powers afterwards, right? Well, it’s not so simple. Shadows are feared and hated by most citizens, so if one is found to be a shadow, citizens of Syumo will not hesitate to turn them in to the nearest hospital, where they are kept and imprisoned, until something can be done. Also, the Goddess of Shadows has the right to end the life of any shadow as she pleases, so that isn’t exactly the best thing. A final major downside to being a shadow is the constant darkness that seems to linger within one’s mind, always seeking out the darker way of life, and always trying to convince shadows to hurry up and transform any accessible people, no matter who or what they may be. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. How Death Occurs Death of a shadow can occur many various ways. These ways of death vary depending on Shadow classes, and other such things. With this in mind, here is a list of possible deaths for a Shadow, and how they occur: Death by Stopping of the Heart: It is possible for shadows to be murdered by a citizen with advanced elemental powers, a creature with advanced attacks, or another shadow. In order for this to happen, a fight must occur between a shadow, and the being that is trying to kill them. This fight must be drawn out, and last long enough for the shadow's energy to be consumed to the point they can no longer move, or they can only move barely so. Once this point is reached their opponent need only to send an attack directly to their heart, which will be too weak to place up any type of shield, and instantly be crushed. Death by Transformation: Any shadow that is restrained long enough to be taken to a medical building, and presented to a worker can be transformed back into their original form, unless they have been transformed back once before or are class 5 or 6. The idea is they are injected with a formula, which creates an artificial soul for the person, though it is unstable, and sometimes causes the shadow to lose memories of their life as a shadow. For those who cannot be transformed back, the formula causes their actual death, seeing as class 5 shadows never had souls to start with, and thus cannot handle them. Class 6 shadows seem to only be affected by the formula if it given daily for at least a month of time, during which they are kept locked up, and restrained. Death by Goddess of Shadows: Of course any shadow can be killed by the Goddess of Shadows, Hoshiko. She has the ability to consume their entire form, dooming them to a life of nothingness. By doing so she does use up much of her energy, and becomes weakened for a short amount of time. Yet, overall she becomes more powerful from the consumption. There are other methods of death, though they are not listed here. If you have questions about how a Shadow may be killed or experience death, feel free to ask. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Other Notes -The bodies of shadows stop aging around the age range of 8 - 25. While the gap is large, it remains true all the same that shadows are pretty much immortal, though most tend to anger their goddess, or bore her to the point she finds their existence unnecessary. -Those transformed after the age of 25 actually begin to go back in time, retreating back to an earlier appearance of their life. This modification takes place the moment their blood is tainted, or their soul is stolen. To what age they revert back to is another story, as one can never really tell before hand. -Class six shadows are the only shadows Hoshiko is able to take control of mentally, and use as she pleases. For some reason, it is impossible for her to control shadows of lower classes in a mental manner, probably something related to their lacking of a soul. -When a shadow gives birth, which is possible, their child will be born with a soul, and be born a regular being, without a hint of shadow being within them. -Hoshiko, Goddess of Shadows, rules over all Shadows. This is at all times. Those that disobey her are punished. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

). The marking usually occurs by the targeting shadow marking their victim by use of their index finger tracing an outline of the mark on any area, which then becomes the actual marking itself.
