Elemental powers are basically the special gifts that rest within every citizen of Syumo, except those whom happen to become shadows. (Once a person becomes a shadow, they lose their elemental powers for good. Even if they return to their original race, they’ll never get their powers back.) These ‘special gifts’ are based on the six basic elements, wind, water, earth, fire, light, and darkness. From the moment a child is born, they have an elemental power, which is recorded on their birth certificate with the aid of a blood sample. (Traces of the element’s energy they possess can be found within their blood.) However, they probably don’t know how to properly use it, or how to even call upon it at an early age. Around the age of five, people begin to recognize their powers, and they actually begin to practice using them, though it isn’t normally until the age of seven, when they actually have some control over them. One might wonder how an elemental power works, and how exactly it provides a method of protection against shadows, among other things. Well, to answer this we must first understand that normal people cannot control the elements around them, with few exceptions. For example, let’s say a person by the name of Maggie has the elemental power of light, and let’s say Maggie happens to be in a sunny park. If a shadow were to attack Maggie, she would not be able to call upon the light element around her, in this case the sun. Instead, Maggie would be able to generate light energy from within her body, which she could release through her hands. This energy would be able to take the form of a ball, a sword, a whip, or any other form one could think of, though if Maggie didn’t have much experience in the elemental power field, she might only be able to form a ball. With this energy, she would be able to fight the shadow off, or defend herself from his attacks, either by throwing small balls of explosive light energy at him, or making a shield of her light energy. Whatever her method, Maggie would at least be able to put up a fight, if not totally fight off the shadow with her powers. Now, before this topic ends, you must also be aware of the fact elemental powers go beyond just being able to generate elemental energy. Each element has a special ability linked to it, which works much like the elemental energy. The more training a person has, then the better they’ll be when using their element’s ability, and the more effective the ability will be. With this in mind, here’s a list of the special abilities that are linked to the elemental powers of Syumo: Wind: Those that possess the wind element are able to levitate objects and people for short amounts of time. Usually, the time range is anywhere from five seconds to five minutes, depending on how much training they have, and the weight of the thing they’re trying to levitate. As for how high they can go, usually whatever they’re trying to levitate cannot go higher than six feet. Also, when trying to levitate something, or someone, they must concentrate, and aim their hands at their target. With their hands, they will be able to guide the desired object, or person, to where they want them. However, they must be careful not to lose their focus, or else they may lose control, causing the object or person to go flying off into the distance. Water: To be of the water element is a wondrous thing, most people do believe. This is because those of the water element have the ability to become a liquid similar to water themselves. All they have to do is focus, and concentrate on the concept of expanding their molecules in either their entire body, or in just certain places. It takes a lot of practice, but eventually, they find themselves doing it. Now, while in their liquid form, water users can feel the ground under them, and they can also see, sort of. They have no eyes, but their minds can gather the outline of objects surrounding them, although they’re not entirely accurate. As for the limitations to this power, people cannot stay in liquid form for more than five to twenty minutes, depending on their skill. Also, they lose their clothing when they become liquid form, so that’s another thing to keep in mind. (Why? Well, after enough time passes, they become solid again, without having a warning ahead of time. Think how lovely it would be to become whole again in front of an utter stranger, or someone you recently met.) Earth: Although it isn’t as great as the other abilities, earth users are able to call upon nature to aid them in battles. When I say ‘call upon’, I mean they can ask the surrounding plants to help them. The plants can always refuse, or turn on the user, but normally, they don’t. (Unless the one asking for the aid is being a jerk about it.) In order to ask, they need only focus their mind, and concentrate on reaching the surrounding plants. Oh, and those of the earth element can also encourage plants to grow faster. Again, it simply takes concentration, and kindness as well. (This is actually very helpful for those that own gardens, or aid in gathering and growing medical plants.) Fire: As for those that possess fire for their element, they have the ability to actually control it. Now, as said above, people usually can’t control their elements directly, but there are some exceptions. With fire, the fire being controlled must already have been started. This means a person cannot make actual fire come from their hands. However, once they find a fire, they may control it using their hands to guide the flames. Without training, only small fires may be control, and only for short periods of time. With training, larger fires become possible for longer periods of times. Also, the chance of a person accidentally burning themselves while controlling the flames is lessened with the training. (Yes, fire users always have a chance of burning themselves, especially if they’re lacking skills.) Light: Opposite to the dark element, those that possess light as their element also possess the ability to heal those around them. Training is especially necessary with this power, as one can only heal small cuts and scrapes when they start out. Eventually, with hard work, broken bones and greater illnesses can be healed as well, though it takes a lot of work. When it comes to the limits of this power, healers cannot heal themselves, and they use some of their energy whenever they do heal. As a result of this, they may only use their healing ability once every thirty to sixty minutes. Trying to use it before the necessary time passes will only cause the user to waste their energy. No healing will actually result, and it will generally be a waste of time. In order for the healing to work in the first place, the user’s hands must be over the injured area they wish to heal, and again, they must picture the injury they wish to heal in the first place. When both actions are completed, a golden light surrounds the injury, and does its job. Darkness: Darkness users happen to hold the ability that allows them to bring illnesses upon others. Said illnesses range from momentary blindness, to a near deadly flu and minor broken bones, though none of the illnesses they may inflict cause death directly. Only two illnesses may be summoned every twenty to fifty-five minutes. (Summoning illnesses before the mentioned time has passed will cause the user to fall ill themselves.) As with all the other abilities, the amount of training a person has had effects their capabilities. If someone has no training whatsoever, their illnesses brought forth will be weak. Sometimes, the illnesses may also fail, even if enough time has passed, thus affecting the darkness user themselves. Finally, in order to bring an illness forth, the desired person must put their complete focus and attention on the being they wish to harm. The illness they desire must be pictured within their mind, after which it will come forth from the person’s body as a thick, dark mist, and head for the target. (Unless the illness should backfire. Then, it would simply consume the person summoning it in the first place.) Simple enough, right? Well, we haven’t exactly covered everything just yet. Another important note on elemental powers is that they aren’t chosen at random, but instead based off of a person’s bloodline, date of birth, and their personality. Normally, the bloodline and personality are dominate, and the date of birth has little effect on the chosen element. (Note: By date of birth, I mean the month the child is born in. Each month has a different element assigned to it: Jan. - Feb.: Light March - April: Water May - June: Earth July - Aug.: Fire Sept. - Oct.: Wind Nov. - Dec.: Darkness Again, these rarely effect the overall outcome, though they still count.) Also, every person is different in how strong their elemental powers are, and what their limits happen to be. Those who take the time to practice, and are successful, tend to excel. Meanwhile, those who don’t practice, and those who happen to attempt practice, but fail, tend to fall behind, some even forgetting how to use their powers at all. That’s pretty much it, though not as descriptive as it could be, it still provides enough information for one to get a general idea of what elemental powers are, and how they work. Yet, before you click out of this topic, let me just get in six more notes. 1. When a person is ill, their elemental powers are weakened, due to the fact their body is unable to function at 100%. How much their powers are weaken depends on how sick they are; the sicker the person, the weaker their powers. 2. If two or more people with the same elemental power happen to be near each other, it is possible for them to combine their powers to form a greater weapon, or a greater shield. They can also combine their elemental abilities together in order to have a more effective ability as well. With this in mind, it might be a good idea for one to be around another of the same elemental power background. 3. Elemental powers aren’t just for fighting shadows, they can be used in everyday life as well. Also, they can be used against those who aren’t of shadow race all the same. The only reason they're considered protection against shadows is simply because they are, and that’s what their main purpose is 4. Elemental energy may also be channeled into already existing objects, such as swords, daggers, shields, ect. In order for this to happen, the object must be in the hand of the one that wishes to place energy into it. The energy channeled into the object will make it stronger, and will last for as long as the person holding it has general energy to spare. Also, the energy leaves said object when contact with the holder is lost. Due to this, it is impossible to have an object be elementally charged by more than one person, or with more than one element, unless the holder controls two. 5. Certain elements are weak against others. As a result of this, fights between two people with elemental powers can sometimes lean towards one person from the start. You should keep this in mind at all times. Now, with all being said and done, you may produce to continue on with whatever you were about to do Questions should be directed to the Questions form, to my by pm, or by e-mailing Robin_D00m@yahoo.com |
