Juliek stared forelornley into the dark beer before him. So much had happened recently he would rather not think about... But the drink didn;t seem to have any effect whatsoever. His palm lay upturned, exposing the finely traced mark of night. Oh, the night when he had recieved that!... but there was no use thinking about it now. Juliek saighed, noting how the people kept their distance from him. He curled his hand into a fist and shut his eyes tight, trying to think of something else. In final desparation, he began to sing. "The Atlantic was born today and I'll tell you how... The clouds above opened up and let it out. Those people were overjoyed; they took to their boats. I thought it less like a lake and more like a moat. The rhythm of my footsteps crossing flatlands to your door have been silenced forever more. The distance is quite simply much too far for me to row It seems farther than ever before Oh no." So this is the new year, he thought. Faintly, as if through a fog, he heard the talking and laughing, saw the streamers, confetti. And here I sit, alone, in a bar, composing poetry to sing to take my mind of the real issues. So this is the new year. |

Elizabeth had taken her power now, and had guided an unwilling Kronos and a bewildered Beth to this hell. Zouken loomed like an angry monster, however she had the mind to have traced a winged heart in black ink (Though poorly) on her palm to deter those from a distance, bent on destruction of the body if she could not have her way with a close incounter. The change would have one of two reactions, she decided once Kronos had sorta slipped off into oblivion on the ferry due to exahustion she ahd caused through repeated barrages of thoughts to overwhelm him. SHe'd done rather well to keep out of the sight line of many shadows, but being the Queen she had been and still felt she was, demanded her personality to shine through and overpower. Demanded ot be the spotlight, and demanded that she be free of those two freaks. Once more, she revisited her theories on what the change would do. Either, as she was dominate, would place her in permanent control, or just created a multipersonality inflicted shadow to harvest souls. The first, very fun. All the little ladies she could wish for in her power. Blood, once more would be hers. The second, not so fun, but perhaps she could overpower them again and find a way to win forever later. And what a place! Having bared a fanged grin to any and all whom looked her way, she slipped into the appearance of being a rather stupid mortal to have wandered into this hell. AN easy target, however she also dominated. SHe was a quene and would be taken by nobody forcefully. She would choose her... victim. Yes. She would decide who the poor fool would be whom she'd let unleash the original vampire upon the world. Beth, not realizing she ahd done so, took ehr control at this moment. Where as everyone had been rather frightening to her in this odd building choked with Shadows. And as she could not simply bolt fromt eh place at once, she pressed in further, watching for the next half way decent face. SHe ahd stolen Elizabeth's gait and esteem rank though, infuriating the vampire greatly. She still held a certian power yet. She expended that by choosing the singing man whom might have been mad. As kindly as posisble she gave him a grin that shattered her power trip at once, aknowledging her as a human being and not a celestial queen granting ehr presense among villians. "H-hello?" She scooted so that he was blocking her with his body from a crush of the dark creatures, hands shaking in her lap quietly as she mastered her voice. "Wh-where am I?" She whispered, keeping this question between him and her as she scooted closer feeling a dark pit of dread brought by a doom that gripped her neck prepared to drag her into a senseless spiral down. "So-" "Sorry... This is Zouken, right? I'm such a horrid traveller anymore..." She flashed the sharp bloodletting fangs as a warning should he do anything mroe than act as a block agianst the crush of soulstealers behind him. She edged away from him, the power returning slowly as she scanend the room for a suitable creature. Female... Males were so... boring. ANd yet, she hadn't the time to find one. She was weak. Beth's personality returned, quickly turning to rub at the winged heart, shyly staring at teh table awaiting slaughter. |

Juliek narrowed his eyes, glared at the girl. "You're in the Mistress and Master Lust Bar. And, may I add, the only mortal here. Unless you want one of these-" he held up his hand, palm up for her to see "-I'd suggest you leave." Still, he slid over on the seat to make room for her. "What are you doin here, anyway?" He was actually quite interested. Juliek knew that neither he or his twin would have dared venture here, even if the people dripped with money for her to steal, and eager ears ready for his light tenor. "It's rather dangerous for those like you." |

"I'm not-" "I'm not scared of one of those. Infact, yes, yes I do want one." Elizabeth cut Beth off, implying her power again to the frightened woman over these creatures. Beth, when returning agian gave a startled smile before shrugging. She ahd forgotten breifly where she was exactly, though bar loomed int he background. Elizabeth clouded the part about the winged hearts and shadows well, leaving Beth riding on the coattails of Elizabeth's reply, smiling slightly for an unknown reason, studying the young man whom had scooted over for her. Say yes, say yes... Before before... Say YES! Elizabeth, though she'd have prefered a female (Men to her were nothing more than a requirement of power to rule with.) whom she could kill afterwards and stolen the life blood of, was pushing the subject of recieving the mark from this creature whom was listening intently to her, curious perhaps of her soon not to be mortal self so boldy trapsing into a Shadow's domain. Grititng ehr teeht she pondered why she had an overwhelming urge to ask him for whatever their conversation had been about. Hearts? It did seem so... And it was near Valentines day.... It would not be the first time she'd blacked out on someone, forgetting their conversation or relationship to her until later. But how akward. A nervous giggle was quickly cut short, a fanged grin granted to the man as she studied his eyes. "Um... Sorry... I d-don't know. But you do have nice eyes." Was he a client? Perhaps, though she hadn't really advertised any of this lately, her past job, he may have been an old client she'd met again... That wouldn't be too odd. But his darkness confused her No matter how light it was, it was there, and thickened the darkness of teh bar overall. She was not thinking clearly enough to identify him properly. He seemed almost like Nik who was almost like a- Nothing, nothing. Just a client, dear. Elizabeth shushed as a mother would a child with an amazing imagination before bed with ideas of monsters inhabiting the space beneath his bed springs. |

Juliek looked at her, his brow furrowed in confusion. His sharp eyes stared into hers. "Er...thanks." He shut his eyes and rubbed his temples, then stared at her mournfully. "You don't know what you're asking for." Carefull not to make eye contact, Juliek began his story. "Once upon a time, there was a young boy born under a curse. His mother had done some very stupid things when she was younger, but the punishment was set on the next generation down. So, in due time, the woman found a husband, and bore twins. A boy and a girl. The mother rejoyced, because they were born beautiful and whole. "But not long after that, disaster struck. The girl was wandering the streets alone, and was attacked. She was left blind, with two scars down her face, one on either side where she was slashed through her eyes. The mother wept, but secretly rejoyced it had not been worse. "And so the curse had fallen, on one of the twins. But for the next seventeen years, nothing bad happened. She believed that her son had escaped the curse. And then one day in a bar, he got knocked in the head, went unconcious. When he woke up, his blond hair had darkened to black, and upon his hand, the Mark of Night. He had gained enough conciousness that he could slow, and finally stop the transition, thanks to his mother's training. But it still left him a Shadow, albeit one with bright eyes, and a -formerly- bright councious." He looked up at her, and opened his palm. "You can't want that for yourself." |

Urrrggggg.... Elizabeth groaned, wearily shooing Beth agian into the dark. "Boy, listen here. I don't care about the body. I need power, and I need it fast. So, either I cna move on, and take my requests elsewhere, or you could accept my poor judgment as stupidity and grant me a posioned soul. If you want stories, sweetie, I have a whole hoard of them." She paused, a sadistic grin on her face as she propped the flat of her palm under her chin, elbow rested on the table as she place her free hand over his, picking at his nails. "Years ago, centuries or eons, in a seperate universe, I was a queen. I was married to a man with a love for the screams and blood of others. From him, I took my reputation later on once he had died. The short story, pain is only a strength to me..." She pressed the nail of her index finger into his knuckle lightly, leaving a slight indent. "And if you think of it this way, I'm already a Shadow at heart, dreay dear. Besides, if things go wrong, I'll give Beth to you. She'd love to talk to you. She likes your eyes... Ugh, such a simple little whore." She paused, tapping ehr chin, drawing ehr hand that had covered his into her lap. "And I'm not about to bne forced into it... Think of it as a blessing. I refuse to be forced into anything. I chose to ask you to do this. I fyou don't, one of them will." SHe motioned to the leering faces of the other bar patrons, shrugging and folding har arms abruptly on the table surface. "Please?" |

Juliek took her hand in his, curled the fingers into a fist. "Please, don't ask me to do this." He gazed at her solemly with his large blue eyes. "I will if you ask, but..." Juliek shut his eyes tight. A salty tear rolled down one cheek. "Please don't make me do this." He felt as if he was looking on at himself from the outside. Wow, he wondered/ Is that eally me? That sad, sorry figure crying his heart out on a bench in a bar to a woman he's never seen before.? |

"Please, my little Shadow?" She crooned, brushign ehr freehand through his hair and attempting to crush the hand that held hers with her own grip. "It's a duty to the strongest, my love. To me, Elizabeth. Not Kronos or Beth, in partiular, but me, a queen, whom if you serve now on a simple whim, will repay you with what you so desire." That, it would seem with this poor miserble boy, would be death. And as soon as he ahd granted her wish,s he would return the favor. What? Why is... Why is Nik- No... Not Nik. Nik never cries. Why is he crying? It was an odd double vision for Beth, the first, and last time she'd share such a thing with the dragon-tempered mistress Elizabeth. She shared equal power,a nd in a need to comfort, leaned forewards, leaning her forehead agaisnt his and whispering a simple, quiet sorry. "Please?" Elizabeth asked wearily, shoving Beth away again angrily with a swift punishment of ehr torturous deeds that stole the lives of young women so greedily to lock her away for a moment longer. "It's simply a kiss, is it not?" |

Juliek glanced up sharpley. "A kiss?" How could she know the complexities of shadow nature? He himself, a shadow striving to cleanse himself of the pain of eternal sin, knew little of his own powers, nor how to use them. Yet, this girl, she seemed to know the internal workings of the Goddess herself. "I don't know how." There, the truth was always a good policy. "I could take you to Hoshiko, but Holy Mother, that's not much of an idea. The only reason I'm a class three was because I was pretty." He spat the word out, as if that were a sin in itself. "I was blond, she fancied she'd have me for herself. You're lucky I'm not warped, or who you are, your spirit, your very soul, it would all be long gone. If you want power, try the elementals. Get them to transfer theirs to you. This is not a good way to get it." He stared into her eyes for a moment, and then, very slowly, began to change. His skin had more color, his hair a feathery golden yellow. The only thing that remaind was the mark upon his palm. "This is who I used to be. A happy boy who lived his life running barefoot over the plains of Yino. This is who I am now." His skin lightened to an albino white, his hair faded to black. His eyes, while still sharp and bright, and a haunted look about them, and the mischevious glint had been replaced with a veil of sorrow. "Is this really what you want?" |

"Flames burn the brightest in the dark. They cast their own shadows. Hmm?" She paused, studying his face again, trying to reprint the blond hair and darker skin on him agian, but failed. She took instead to leaning her forehead agaisnt his again. "It's simply a kis,s my love. I do not want to take the powers of a fool. They simply will not do for me. And besides, I can gather what I need once I obtain a Shadow's status much easier." What are you doing? A groggy Kronos asked, hearing only 'Shadow' and something about power. Nothing, nothing love. Elizabeth shushed, shooing him agian. "A soul menas a capacity to change. I don't want to change, sweetie. Please. ANd the All Mother isnot the one I chose, is she? Of course not. That would mean facing the woman, wouldn't it? And I do not wish to face her... Yet." She drew back from him, studying his face again. "Besides, what more is there to change?" She asked, motoning to herself. "I was never meant to be happy as you were. My joy is in teh pain of other, love. And it causes you more pain to try and convince me otherwise." What are you doing! Kronos was angry now. he ahd been, though, the one who ahd told her of Shadows when they passed through Amon Fields, and the one who had described the manners in which to be changed, as he had long ago been a warrior of this world long before and had battled many Shadows in his day. He had not told her enough though, as he did now. "Except you are only a level three, right Dearest? Then it opts for a slower method, does it not?" Kronos recoiled, his thoughts had been invaded by the queen. Picking his hand that was marked wiht the heart and wings she inspected the mark for a moment, tracing it with her index finger of her free hand. "Much slower, but apparently, the only possible way... Is it not?" |

"Love?" Juliek raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Love is not one of life's tragedys." This girl really is a shadow, even before being transformed."Love, is a greviance to some, causes pain, leaves it's mark. But, above all that, eros is the bringer of life, aggape of love, and filhos of friendship. Love is the root of desire, lust, yes, but most of all love." He ran a finger over the mark on his palm. "What does it steal? What doesn't it steal. My religion, for one. A devout Jew turned over to shadows. My sister, scared to be near me. My love, stolen from my body, afraid to be turned herself. My very life, gone." He leaned close to her face, brushed his lips across hers. "But if it's what you want, I'll stop arguing." |

Elizabeth ignored his continued ramblings about loving being life and things of that sort. She only reacted to his final statement, meant to give into her pressure and the way she had used his very self agianst him to win. "Thank you, Dear." She stroked his cheek, having ignored the kiss. Though she did smile dully at it, it had no other effect on her it s seemed. No, no, no! Let go, let GO! And let what? God? Yes... No! Once I am finished with him, I will be a god, Kronos. No, no you won't! These creatures are not gods, they are weak minded beasts of burden. Theya re the Goddess' play things, they are... When that goddess is writhing in chains at my feet, she will gladly give into my demands. What do you intend to do, Elizabeth? "Such a precious thing you are, right?" Easily persuaded. "Stay with me, until it's over... Please? I can offer a paradise much more precious than any that this lady of shadows can promise." Paradise, is blood soaked in your victory, Elizabeth. There is nothing to be desired of it. And yet, Kronos, ther eis so much to be had... |

Juleik looked at her, his eyes cold and uncomprehending. He opened his mouth to say something, shut it, and pulled her down next to him. His eyes flashed in the sudden light of a match lit in the distance, glowed red for a second, but with immense control back to ice blue. "If this is what you want..." He shut his eyes tight, and kissed her, hard. He felt her body go limp beneath his, and still he kissed her. He kissed her until it seemed that all the life must have been sucked from her veins, then carefully lay her down on the seat. He held a hand over her nose, and though the breath was slight, it was still there. He whipered in her ear, even though he was sure she could not hear. "I'm sorry." And then he waited for her to wake. |

I am wrong. I was right! Elizabeth welcomed the limpness that came with the soulstealing kiss, the darkness, though strangely, not this darkness. It was not that of sleep, to be overcome with blood red or white. It was not sleep, but a coma. SHe was being shoved abck again, her power was taken from her again, as she was leveled with the common person. This angered her, though was not shown on her face, as it simply could not be hers anymore. Beth awoke, coughing and choking. She helf a hand to her throat, as if to strangle herself, whimpering in pain. Her body was chilled, frozen. Cold as death. Her vision cleared, only to lance through with red ribbons whens he lifted her head to take a clean breaht of air, as the air around her tasted stale and burned. But it was rewarded with the freash electriced smell of air after a heavy storm. Cleansed. Desprately she grabbed for the Shadow who had waited for ehr to wake up. She caught his hand, and used it as leverage to drag herslef up, leaning erh head on his shoulder, limbs as heavy as lead. She was crying. Not due tot he pain, but she felt lost, corrupted, and violated. She wanted to purge this,a dn the only way that seemed to make freedom posisble seemed deaht at the moment, to which she wished that she could submit to. Though it refused to come. "Why am I so cold? Please... Tell me..." Beth murmured, voice gone after these few words to a silent scream, teeth bared to face the newest pain. The trials of Hell. Kronos! WHere are you? He was gone, and Elizabeth was alone. Deserted as a seperate spirit fromt eh body. everything dark,s he simply rushed off in a random direction. Without sense, she ahd found her way outside. "What did I do?" SHe wanted to ask, feeling as though he had punished her for soemthing that she could not quite understand. Though all memories gone, even of this young man just moments before,s he could not say what exactly had happened. Testing his new body Kronos settled his hands on the hilt of the small raiper at his waist, scanning the armor as it faded in and out in a buzz of static as his body did. He had retained something of his soul, though. It was simple broken, shattered, and more than half missing. The tiny shard was there though, which gave him slight freewill to face off agianst the goddess once more. He faded completely in a sharp hum. Kronos felt a slight anguish at this, though soon discovered he was not dead, simply unable to keep a solid form. He'd have to find a suitable body soon, or face this happening more often. Blundering had lead to the empty streets in a darkened corner. Elizabeth found that she was not dead, nor lost. Infact, she had her vision back, but it seeme,d ehr body was still static and pure energy, unable to maintain a solid form, nor create one. How lucky she was, she pondered as she forced the young lady whom had been attracted by the bright red light in teh form of a fuzzy body, that shadows had no freewill, and she had yet maintained a shard of this, and still maintained her ideas to destroy the goddess and take her place. Testing her new body, Elizabeth jumped a few times before working the unfamiliar fingers into her pockets, searching for weapons. A simple pocket knife, nothing better than that. So, hand rested on her left hip, thump hooke dintot eh waistband of the jeans, she tapped the new mark of her curse impatiently, inspecting the knife witht eh other hand as she began to search for that bar again.S he ahd promised something to that little fool,a dn was intent on following through with her promise. The bar wasn't hard to find, the girls he adh forced from ehr own body had apparently been heading for it. |

Juliek wraped his arm around Beth's waist, rested his face in her hair. "Bee Luther Hatchee," he murmured. "The next stop after Hell." He slipped his jacket off, wrapped it around her shoulders. Even though he knew it wouldn't help. "It'll pass," he said. No, that wasn't right. She was like to be a class four, what with her pre-existing demonic blood. She would be able to feel his lie. "You'll get used to it," Better. Still a lie, but a little closer to the truth. He began to talk very softley, so that she might not hear. But God would hear, and that was enough. "Magnified and sanctified be God's great name in the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom soon, in our lifetime. Let us say: Amen. May His great name be praised to all eternity. Hallowed and honored, extolled and exalted, adored and acclaimed be the name of the Holy One, though He is above all the praises, hymns, and songs of adoration which men can utter. Let us say: Amen. May God grant abundant peace and life to us and to all Israel. Let us say: Amen. May He who ordains harmony in the universe grant peace to us and to all Israel. Let us say: Amen. " He sat up, looked into her face. "The Mourner's Kaddish. I was once a devout, a mystic, deep into my faith. But now - martyred, but not dead..." [Kudos to you if you guess the religion I speak of...] |
