Hava jerked slightly when Marks bumped into her and she leaned on the doorframe, glaring at the back of the woman. 'Kinder heart'...I don't think I want to meet these sisters of his, she thought, blinking at what was to be her room. Small place. 'Course, I have no idea how many of these servants of his are on the boat, he'd probably need to fit them all somehow. At least I'm not being shoved into one place with dozens of other people. I'd probably snap, and I'm not even that solitary. Sarah would die here, that's for sure.

She opened her mouth to say something when Marks, stepping forward, beat her to it. Before more than a few words had even come out of her mouth Hava's face flushed angrily and her eyes looked nothing more than two dark slits. "Fine, fine, I've pretty much heard that speech the entire time I've been here. 'Don't mess up the carpet, don't steal anything,' " She mocked the other womans voice, adding a naggy undertone. "I think I get the picture by now. Get in trouble, and I get thrown off the boat. Or something."

Stepping back a few feet and farther into her room, Hava uncrossed her arms and held them by her sides. "Alright, then! I'm sure you have much better things to do. Do us both a favor and go do whatever they are."

Miss Marks seemed as if she was about to say something, likely something fairly unpleasant, but she bit her tongue and did what Hava suggested. She turned on her heel and stalked off into the ship. her footsteps echoing so far down the corridor before disappearing.

With that, Hava was alone. It was reasonably quiet, at least, although there was an low omnipresent rumble of machinery. It was probably the sort of thing she'd tune out in a few minutes. Probably.

For now, at least, her time was her own. The dinner that Kivean had invited her to was some time away yet. Would she set off to explore the ship on her own terms, or wait it out in her box... erm... room?

Hava blinked, watching the woman walk away with a look that was slightly bemused. What, no cutting retort? Ah, well, it's probably for the best. I'm sure we could get into a two hour-long argument if we really wanted to. She rubbed her temples and sat down heavily on her small bed. Her head was pounding dully from the noise of machinery that surrounded her. She sighed and shook her head, combing back her hair in a nervous gesture.

Not much to do here, is there? she asked herself, leaning back on her hands and crossing her legs. I suppose I could look around...This is the E deck, which means there must be other decks to poke around in. And I bet Marks can't do much to me for just being curious.

With that final thought she grinned and hauled herself off the bed and pushed the sleeves on her shirt up above her elbows. Hava slipped through the door of her room, shutting it behind her and making another mental note of the numbers on it. Won't do any good to get lost on my first day... She smirked wryly and, clasping her hands behind her back, set off down the hall, her shoes clanking softly against the floor.

The Helene was a large ship indeed, and navigating her took some amount of getting used to. Hava had the time now, though, and she could take her time without someone prodding her down the hallway. She passed through several hallways, and each had an identifying number painted somewhere on it's walls. It didn't take long for a pattern to emerge; the numbers were decreasing as she continued in that one direction.

Eventually she came upon two crewmen, the pair busy working on what seemed to be a ruptured length of the piping along the walls. Both were men, older. One had shaggy brown hair and a large beard, a somewhat rotund fellow who was seated and cutting a piece of sheet metal with small blowtorch. The other, tall and thin with a wiry little mustache and beady eyes, seemed to be surveying the damage to the pipe.

The larger man looked up from where he sat, his goggle-covered eyes surveying the girl as she approached. The torch flicked off, and he nodded towards her.

"'Ello, miss." he said, voice thick with some accent Hava wasn't familiar with. "Bit lost, are we?"

Hava jumped slightly when the man spoke and she just blinked at him for a second before seeming to realize that he was talking to her. "Oh! Um...yeah, sort of. I mean, to be lost, I'd kind of have to know where I was goin'," she said, rubbing the back of her head idly. "And I was just kind of lookin' around." She grinned sheepishly and shoved her hands into her pockets, glancing at the pipe they were working on.

"What happened? To the pipe, I mean?" she asked, eyeing the blowtorch curiously. "It looks like it just burst open," Hava stated, wincing internally at how obvious it was. Cool...Dad used to work with stuff like that. He'd never let me help, though...Kind of smart of him, now that I think about it. I'd probably end up settin' fire to something.

The taller man turned to look at Hava as she spoke, an eyebrow slightly raised as he twisted one side of his mustache between his thumb and forefinger. The pair exchanged quick glances, before the bearded man spoke up to reply.

"Oh, well then. You mus' be 'r new crewmen then, ay? Sore bit'a luck catchin' that window an' all, but welcome 'board anyhow."

The taller man looked back to the pipe as she mentioned it, running a gloved finger along the jagged edge. He shook his head lightly, shrugging as he turned back to her.

"We're not sure." he said in a very his very nasally voice. "Never seen one... explode like that before."

"Ah, it's no matter f'r yer concern, miss." the bearded man said as he stood, offering Hava his large hand. "By the way, you c'n call me Cog. This here's Spinel."

He nodded his head to his companion, who also nodded towards her in response.

"Pleased to make y'r acquaintance."

Hava grinned sheepishly and shrugged. "Yeah, that's me. It was an accident, really, but my air powers aren't the best. I'm just glad I can work the debt off instead of havin' to find some way to pay for it."

She tilted her head to the side and inspected the pipe. "Yeah...that's kind of weird. Was it just at a random time, or was there a lot of- what goes through this, anyways? Water? Was there a lot of whatever it was goin' through, that might've made it burst?" After she spoke she flushed and bit her lip, confused. Where'd that come from? I better be careful, or they might think I actually know what I'm talking about! She snickered under her breath, before sobering up.

"Oh, my name's Hava. I never said that, did I...? But yeah, Hava Crissi. Nice to meet you!"

"Pleasure's all 'rs miss Haver." Cog's accent contorted her name, just a little. He smiled widely as he jabbed his companion lightly in the side with his elbow.

"All ours, miss." Spinel echoed, rubbing his ribs with a bit of a frown. The taller man turned back to the pipe, prodding at the side again as if expecting to find some weakness in the metal to explain the current situation. "These pipes are part of the emergency fuel ejection system, in case of fire in the engine room. Nothing runs through them which is the odd thing... good thinking though..."

Cog shook his head, stepping towards the girl and turning to stand beside her. His large arm went around her shoulder, and he began to walk her slowly forwards. "Now, now, now." he said, shaking his head. "This aren't not the place f'r a fine young lady as yerself to be wastin' 'er time. You go on up now, go take a stroll on top deck an' get some fresh sea air in them lungs."

Hava laughed slightly and grinned at the two men. "Sounds good! I'll see you around, probably, and good luck on the pipe!" She waved as she dashed in the direction Cog had been pushing her. Thank God, I was gettin' tired of bein' out of the air for so long, she thought, face flushing slightly in excitement. She soon reached a length of stairs, metal and ricketly, which she pounded up eagerly.

After another flight of stairs or two Hava finally reached the deck. The first thing she did was take in a huge breath of air, breathing out the stale-smelling air that had surrounded her in the ship. She glanced around the deck and had to brace her knees as the ship lurched slightly on one side. Instantly excited again she carefully made her way to the edge of the boat, gripping the metal baron top of the side.

She stared out at the sea somewhat warily, remembering her last time on a boat. One look at the water and she had been sick as a dog. It seemed that she was used to it by now, at least somewhat, considering she wasn't throwing up over the side of the ship. Hava grinned widely and raked a hand through her hair. "Wow. This is so cool," she muttered to herself, biting her lip as she remembered the deal she had made. At least, it's cool until I have to start workin'.

It was a fairly calm day and the Helene was a very stable ship, but still the occasional lurch was inevitable. The sun was setting as Hava reached top deck, a brilliant crimson disk low on the horizon, painting the sky and clouds various shades of yellow and orange. The air was cool and refreshing, carrying the soft fragrance of the sea upon it. All in all, it was quite pleasant topdecks of the Helene indeed. Various crewmembers passed by, paying little notice to the girl as she gazed out over railing.

Before long, just as the sun was dipping over the horizon completely and the outdoor lighting was flickering on, Kivean Maure decided he'd had enough for the moment. He flipped the ledger on the desktop before him closed, sighing lightly and massaging his closed eyes with his thumb and forefinger.

"Master Kivean, are you well? Can I get you anything?" came the familiar female voice from behind him.

"No, Sarah. I'm fine, really, just a slight headache. Belmara has been causing trouble in Seiki... again." The boy sighed softly again, turning to face Miss Sarah Marks who currently stood a few feet behind. "I honestly cannot grasp why mother continues to give her charge over such important operations."

"Belmara is young. Give her a few years, and she'll settle down." came the reply.

"Ah, like Maya has?" He said sharply. Shaking his head lightly a moment later, he raised an open palm towards her. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap. It's been a long day."

"No need for apologies, master. You should eat, and get some rest."

"Mmhm, yes, now there's an idea." The young Maure stood, stretching a little before he looked back to the awaiting girl. "E-204, right? That's where you've quartered Hava?"

A slight flush rose to her cheeks as he asked. "A-ah... yes, that's right." she replied. "Perhaps it would be best to let her rest for the evening, though... adjust to the ship, you know."

"No, no." he said, shaking his head lightly as he stepped towards the door of his office. "I promised her a dinner, and a dinner she'll have. I feel bad for the poor thing, snatched up from her family like that."

"B-but Master, it was her own..."

"Yes, yes..." he interrupted, leaning down to slip on his shoes. "I know. Honestly, Sarah. You sound just like Maya. She's not here anymore you know."

The sound of a readied reply died in her throat, and she stood there simply flushing, looking down at her immaculately polished uniform shoes.

"At any rate, have a good evening." His hand was on the door handle, and he was gone before she could reply. He felt much like Hava had as he descended the elaborate staircase to the hallway and broached out on deck, immediately taking a deep inhalation of the evening air. Ah, the sea. He glanced out over the now inky-black water and smiled softly. In fact, he almost walked right past her on his way to the hatch down to E deck, but she stood out from the rest of his crew by virtue of the fact that she wasn't doing anything.

"Ah, Hava." he said, smiling as he approached her from the side. "I was told you'd be resting below deck. I'm glad I ran into you, we could have been playing tag for quite a while." A soft laugh. "Anyhow, I've found you now, just as I'd set out to do. Aren't I grand? Shall we?" He offered the girl his arm, warm green eyes gazing at her intently.

Hava, who had been far too busy watching the water lap against the side of the ship to really pay any attention to her surroundings, jumped when a voice spoke from behind her. She whirled around, hands twisting on the bar so she was still holding it when she faced Kivean. She let out a surprised breath before gathering her senses and raising an eyebrow.

"Grand, and so modest too, Mo- Kivean," she huffed, tired blue eyes blinking at him. She hesitantly let go of the bar, feet more or less steady on the ship's deck. Hava flipped her hair out of her eyes, irritated, and eyed the arm Kivean was holding out. "Shall we what?"

"Ah." She seemed to have taken his 'boast' seriously, and not in the jesting tone he'd meant for it. Perhaps, he decided, he'd overestimated the degree to which she'd gotten comfortable with him. Of course he had. It sometimes worried him that he was losing touch with the common person, a connection he'd always prided himself on that none of his sisters could boast.

Pausing a slightly awkward moment, Kivean withdrew his arm. "Aha, I was attempting to be funny. My sense of humor seems to have gone off somewhere this evening." He folded his hands behind his back, as he often did when there was nothing else to do with them. "Dinner." he reminded her. "My dining cabin is near the top of the ship. Shall we go, or would you prefer to rest? I'll have something sent down."

Hava flushed, embarrassed, but quickly rubbed the back of her hand across the offending cheek. It didn't help, of course, if anything just made her face redder. But really, she was used to joking around with her brothers and her friends back in Yino. It just seemed strange to do it with Moore. After all, he had more or less kidnapped her, (although, of course, it was really all Hava's fault), and one didn't get all chummy with their kidnapper/boss, right?

"Oh...right. Um, sure, we can go. I don't think I'd be able t' rest very well anyways," she muttered, warily nodding. "You can lead the way." I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get lost on this thing the second I'm along, anyway, she admitted to herself, but refused to say it aloud. She rubbed her cheek once more, for good measure.

Kivean silently hoped that he could find some way to lift the air of awkwardness that stood almost physically between them. He knew so little about her... perhaps that was a good place to start.

"Wonderful." Kivean replied, smiling. He turned and headed at a casual pace towards the stairwell back up to the upper decks. "So! Tell me a little about yourself, Hava." His gaze turned back and to the side towards her.

"Tell you about myself?" Hava repeated, falling into step just behind Kivean. "Okay, I guess. Uh...Well, I'm from Yino. I have an older sister Sarah, and two younger brothers. The oldest is Doron, and Eli's the youngest. I think I might've mentioned them before. I-" she paused, raking a hand through her hair in thought. "I have the power of earth," and I suck at it, she added silently. "Nothin' else interesting, really."

They continued for a bit, Hava blindly following Kivean, considering she had absolutely no way of finding anything on the ship any other way. Finally, having enough of the thickening silence between them, she spoke up again, perhaps a bit loudly than was needed. "So I told you about myself, Ma- Kivean. It's your turn, don't you think?"
