So, here's where things stand for me: Zeke and Todd have become my closest allies at this point. I've been very upfront and candid with them about my intentions, and they've appeared to reciprocate. As a trio, we've essentially made an agreement to look out for each other regardless of whether we end up on the same tribes -- and then reconvene if we're reunited via a tribal swap/reshuffle or the merge. Regardless of how big or small these tribes are, going forward...my hope is that I end up on the same tribe with at least one of them, if not both (although the odds of that are slim, we all agree). The three of us also realize we need a somewhat expanded inner circle to move us forward in the game, but we're going to have to adapt to that based on circumstances and who we end up playing with in these early stages of the game. Lastly, I think we all have a loose sort of gentlemen's agreement that, if we all make it to the merge together, at that point we may need to reevaluate our most personal alliances based on who else is in the game with us. Which is kewl; I can respect that. Hell, I'm the one who floated that insinuation to each of them. With both Todd and Zeke, I've been implying/hinting to each of them that I really want to at least make the jury -- without coming right out and blatantly saying it. My hope is that they both can read the subtext there...and they'll take me that far, at least. That brings me to Diane. I fear I may have initially come on too strong to her as far as proposing an alliance. So I've tried to rein myself in, to let her know I can share her level of patience with letting things unfold. The last thing I want to do with her is be too pushy, if she and I are tribemates. When she wants to chat about pop cultural stuff or hobbies/interests, I reciprocate; whether it's an intentional distraction on her part -- or she truly wants to get to know me better -- that's anybody's guess. But I'll humor her. I can tell that she doesn't like pushy, so I'm making a conscious effort to moderate my behavior around her. At the same time, if we get to play together I want to show her layers of vulnerability and loyalty, since I view Diane as a good prospect for being a part of our inner circle. Depending on what happens with Zeke and Todd, she could potentially replace any of them in terms of my alliances if there's an unexpected vote-out or shakeup. Diane specifically name-dropped Julie (along with Todd and Zeke) to me, so I've been feeling out Julie and trying to reach out to her. Julie seems to be a minimalist in terms of conversation thus far...but that could be because she's cautious as to who her tribemates are going to end up being, later today. So I've kept myself in Julie's consciousness so that we can hopefully make something happen together if we end up being tribemates. Nick seems to be playing a lone wolf sort of game, right now. He's made it clear that he doesn't care for all of the showboating and role-playing that goes on throughout the public boards. He views it as fake and artificial. I can understand where he's coming from. I've tried to relate to his view and express sympathy for it during my interaction with him, while still pointing out the strategic value in at least some public interaction. I'm hoping this might put me on his radar as a potential ally -- even if only a fairweather one, to begin with. Ozzy is overall just a friendly dude. He seems like definite "inner circle" material, and certainly someone to approach about aligning if we're on the same tribe. I need to keep an open mind about how his and my games could line up, going forward. With Tony, I see his paranoia. But I can't fault him for that. Hell, I'm one of the most paranoid people on this planet. I think people are trying to assassinate me on a daily basis! So my approach with him as to gently play the "father hen" role with him, so that if he feels vulnerable (when the voting starts) he might try to join up with me rather than come after me. Sierra is someone whom Diane name-dropped as a possible alliance member. So I'm keeping my eyes on her. I haven't gotten a ton from Sierra, yet; but I've still been trying to reach out to her so that, if we're on the same tribe, she might gravitate toward me. When I was undergoing a bout of paranoia yesterday afternoon, I took Diane's praise of Sierra to heart...and then promptly messaged Sierra expressing "humorous frustration" over the lack of candor that has seemed to plague the boards during this period of uncertainty. Then, after Diane brought me back down to earth, I backpedaled with Sierra (following Sierra's actual response to me) and tried to laugh off my earlier paranoia. My best bet with Sierra, going forward, will be to be genuine and sort of "go with the flow" in a zen-but-participatory manner if we're ever talking strategy. Dave is still a mystery. His fishing metaphors are driving my crazy! Is he trying to hint at strategy talk...or is he just role-playing for his own amusement. I've decided to take a wait-and-see approach with him; if he and I become tribemates, I can attempt to broach the subject of strategy a little more candidly, and gauge his response from there. Cameron, if this is you playing "Dave" AGAIN...I'm going to throttle you, bro!!! ![]() Rudy...oh, DAMN!!! I love Rudy! I can't tell if he's here to actually play or just to provide a character experience. But is he EVER in character! Everything he writes -- either on the messageboards, or in private messaging with me -- just OOZES the essence of Rudy Boesch. In fact, last night, he made a crack about lawn protection and hemorrhoids. I LITERALLY could not stop laughing UPROARIOUSLY in front of my computer. In fact, I was laughing so hard I had to keel over onto my bed. Then I practically peed myself...and I was STILL LAUGHING as I made my way into the bathroom. I have zero clue on Rudy's motivations as a player...but I'd love to have him around during the merge, if only as comic relief. It's a good thing that I don't know how to do Internet videos/vodcasts...because if I was filming my reactions to Rudy's posts, my words would be totally indecipherable amid my fits of laughter! Trevor...is that you playing Rudy, by any chance?????? Amanda seems friendly enough, but minimalist in her responses. I'm going to try reaching out to her right before the tribal announcement, just in case we're on a tribe together. Keep myself planted in her head as a potential ally. Brooke has been very similar to Amanda, although slightly more charismatic. I think I should reach out to her, last-minute, as well. I'm almost 99% certain that Denise is a first-time player. However, I view her descriptiveness on the boards as very endearing. She's bubbly, interpersonally. Unlike some of the other returnees who may be playing, if Denise is a novice I don't necessarily want to hold that against her. If she and I were tribemates, I want to feel her out in terms of how well I could work with her farther into the game. Joel seems to get the game. I like him, so far. He's not too strong-willed, but he's been moderately candid in my interactions with him. Mark him down as someone who I could possibly work with, depending on how things go. Cirie hasn't been very talkative. Is she just shy? Is she a first-timer who doesn't really understand the private-messaging aspect of the game. Will give her another try. She seems like she could be fun to work with. Haven't heard a lot from Leann, either. Not sure where her head is at. Adam, Misty, and Michelle have all been MIA. If any of them are on my tribe, though -- I will keep trying with them. I can tell other players are exasperated with the inactivity of those three...so a lot of other people are probably quick to write them off. If any of those three are on my tribe, however; I will try my damndest to bond with them. You never know what's going on in someone's real-life, and you never know what wrinkles might present itself in the game where you suddenly need somebody as an ally (even if the person seems to have been virtually invisible). As for the tribe divisions themselves, I'm as nervous as everyone else. We're all trying to guess whether it's going to be two tribes, three tribes, four tribes, or even five small tribes. Although I have to openly admit to having instigated a lot of that talk and speculation myself, hehehe. Last summer, I sent a 40-page dossier of ideas for twists, gimmicks, and locations/themes to the actual Survivor creative team...and I even received a personal letter of praise back from Clark Bernstein (he also sent me some Survivor swag/novelty items along with it). So my neurons are constantly churning about twists and gimmicks. Aside from the tribal divisions themselves, I'm also constantly ruminating about what other game elements we might get blindsided with. Will there be some type of "reward" or "secret advantage" available, intermittently, to select/random players? Will there be an "exile" component, or an ability to either "curse" or "bestow luck" upon other players? I'm excited to find out! |
