So a lot has changed over the past 24 hours.

Rudy and I have connected. Like, on an "I appreciate this game and its integrity, and I can tell that you do too" sort of level. We've started talking serious game, including how to plan for future points in the game if we can get that far. I can tell from talking with him that A.) he knows his stuff, and the "grumpy old man" act was just an introductory front he'd used to feel people out in the earliest stages of the game; and B.) he is most likely a veteran player, possibly a multiple-time player who has made the jury/finals on several occasions. I can sense he is trying to fraternally and gently "school me" in strategy, like Derrick did to Cody in BB16. Especially after I slipped up and asked about when Brobst might announce any new tribe configurations -- at which point Rudy pointed out that I might want to go back and read the boards from past Brobst RPGs that were linked in the welcome thread. Ooops. I tried to backpedal and cover for myself, but I don't know if it worked. But, if Rudy does view himself as the butterfly (him) trying to mentor the grasshopper (me) -- can I make that work to my advantage?

Still, I haven't gotten this level of candor and cerebral thinking from either Joel or Dave. Which makes me feel that I may need to do something I didn't originally want to have to do...

I may have to cut Joel loose. He's online a lot less frequently than Rudy and Dave, and he seems to be willing to defer to me quite a bit. And, when I asked him if he'd be willing to sit out the next challenge (because one of us has to), he immediately seemed to get suspicious and indicated that he feared that we were targeting him.

And according to Rudy, both Dave and Rudy himself prefer to vote for Joel, if it comes down to that.

Actually, my first choice for a Cork vote-out would be Dave. But Dave seems to have endeared himself more to Rudy, and, on top of that, Dave has made overtures in reaching out to me a lot more actively than he had before. Dave has told me he would feel more comfortable moving forward with Rudy than with Joel.

However, I can't shake the suspicion that Rudy and Dave are conspiring against me. I see them logged online at the same time an awful lot; however, I don't want to overreact and inadvertently alienate either of them. Just because they're online simultaneously doesn't necessarily mean they're messaging each other (unless it does). They could be writing confessionals, reading the shared areas of the board, or even stepping away from the computer for a bathroom break. So, DON'T GET PARANOID, Vanessa 2.0 !!!!

Rudy already has told me that Dave and him have been mainly talking about the prospect of PRE-VOTING Joel, and that, in Rudy's view, Dave doesn't seem to mind that Bubba and Rudy are becoming closer. Which could be perfectly reasonable, if Dave simply wants to build a temporary alliance of three against Joel. But HOW WOULD RUDY KNOW HOW DAVE FEELS ABOUT ME IF RUDY HASN'T TALKED MUCH ABOUT DAVE TO ME???? Which leads me to believe that Rudy and Dave *have* been talking about me more than Rudy has let on.

So yeah...Dave and Rudy might be playing me and Joel against each other. Or, Rudy might just be hedging his bets with Dave the same way he'd initially reached out to me. After all, none of us knows who we're going to end up with (even in terms of EACH OTHER) if/when there's a tribal reshuffle.

How I handle Dave seems to be the lynchpin in all of this. Dave seems to be online more frequently than Joel is. And that could be a problem in terms of me working with Joel for future rounds, if Joel isn't able to regularly contribute and strategize. At the same time, I need to make Joel feel as comfortable as possible for if we wind up together on a swapped tribe and are forced to deal with an entirely new set of people. Also, assuming that it isn't just one giant con job on me by Rudy/Dave, it would seem that Dave is trying to optimistically bring me and Rudy together (from his potentially-limited P.O.V.) to side with him if we had to do a first Cork vote-out (against Joel). Unless, of course, Rudy and Dave are doing a number on both me and Joel. And I just can't overlook that possibility.

As I've said -- the best-case scenario is that all of Cork advances in the game, and we spread ourselves out to gather Intel at whatever point we're forced to interact (and form new relationships) with other players.

I have a feeling you're under the impression that I give "hints" or something in Confessionals, which is something I don't do.

You said: "wheels are spinning." I remembered that I've saved a pic of a hamster on a wheel, cause it's funny.

That's it.

:D

P.S. Plus, I sometimes like to at least post a pic or .gif or something as a visual cue so I know I've read up to that point.

Well, I honestly didn't know one way or the other. Some of the things you post are ambiguous and could be interpreted many different ways...so I think it just sort of sets my VanessaMeter off. Which I'm sure provides you with amusement aplenty. :P

I also realize that you ask follow-up questions, like your question to me about Dave's "FishTalk." But I'm assuming that you choose your selected follow-up questions for a particular, pointed reason. Of course, I haven't experienced a "long-term game" yet...so I'm sure many of the other returnees are more accustomed to your communication style. ;)

For the record, I don't have any problem answering follow-up questions if something I've said in a Confessional is a bit unclear, on your end (as Puppetmaster).

I just assume that you and Lucky read every word of every Confessional and Private Message exchange, regardless of whether you've posted anything to indicate as such. :)

Was mentioned in the Moderator/Pub part, but Lucky doesn't have access to PMs or Confessionals.

Yeah, I do sometimes ask questions, but when entries are clear and it doesn't leave any loose ends...... I'm good.

P.S. Or like maybe someone references something in a PM I haven't read yet and I might ask for clarification.

Or I sometimes ask follow-up questions simply to try to pull more out of people for a fuller Confessional since these threads
open up later. (which, of course, you already know) :)

Yeah, I'm trying to be as comprehensive in my Confessionals for you and anyone else who reads through all of these threads afterward, so it's clear to everyone where my brain is at. If you need more, though, I'll keep it in mind that any prompting for elaboration is solely required for added exposition purposes.

(Oooops, overlooked that detail about Lucky not having access to Confessionals; hey, can you blame me when I -- and everyone else in this game -- have so much other immediate stuff on our minds??? ;) )

Yes, I will begin reading new threads extra-super-carefully from now on. :)
