The night after...; ...our first tribal council

I wasn't at all surprised that Dublin had to go to tribal council last night -- especially when I saw it was a "Go Fish"/matching-style challenge. It's a game that truly involves luck, as both tribes competing have a 50/50 shot at it as long as they're all paying attention. It almost makes me wish we could have played Plinko, instead.

What I wasn't confident about was that I wouldn't be the one blindsided. Fortunately, everyone kept their word and voted out Leann. I also felt really crummy that I had to mislead Leann the entire time, because I do suspect she might have been loyal to Dublin at the merge...at least, for a little while. But it was too risky to take that chance...especially when it might have gotten back to her that we'd been targeting her (in the event that either Brooke or Amanda decided to share that information with the Limerick folks).

Aside from me having to sit out (which I'm now regretting), another thing that had me on pins-and-needles was that, back when I was voted out in the Amazon, I was ejected from the game right after my tribe had lost that exact same challenge. And I had scored two points for them in that same challenge, too. Yet, last night, here was a polar opposite situation -- I sat out the matching challenge completely, and didn't receive a single vote cast against me, and was an integral player in the blindside itself. That must speak to the huge difference that social bonds can make in this game. But I don't want to get cocky about it. Continuous communication with my tribemates is the key.

Also, my hat's off to Brobst and Lucky for "trolling" us with that shamrock image included in the set of "matchable" pieces, last night. As soon as I saw that shamrock, my heart sank. My first thought was: "Ugh! Now Leann is going to receive a special advantage because she ended up with a shamrock by random draw, and she'll be able to match it successfully. And we'll still lose the challenge." Obviously, that didn't happen. No special shamrock-hidden advantage was in play...at least, not for THIS round.

No, it doesn't feel good to vote someone out after having misdirected them. Not at all. Now I know how most of the members of my tribe (minus the elusive "Jeanne") on Amazon must have felt (with the exception of the one passive-aggressive individual out of those six who really wasn't there to play...) when they got rid of me. Maybe Leann and myself can cross paths in another online endeavor, and I can make it up to her? She did message me on her way out saying "No hard feelings" after Ozzy told her she would be the one going. If she and I had been able to "connect" better at the very beginning of the game, maybe everything would have gone down totally differently.

Rudy is speculating that the merge will happen after two more rounds of eliminations, which is conceivable. Or it could happen Tuesday night, for all we know. Rudy has also stressed the need to keep Dublin from losing any more of our members. I agree, obviously. Aside from the fact that no one ever WANTS to go to tribal council (unless they possess the individual immunity necklace), I genuinely want to continue working with Rudy, Zeke, Diane, Todd, Joel, and Ozzy altogether. However, I'm aware that we may not win every tribal immunity challenge left in the game, and someone else would need to be cut loose. How can I prevent that person from being me?

Because of the subtle, implied Joel-vs.-Ozzy dynamic that is quietly brewing, I anticipate that I might get caught between one faction that wants to eliminate Joel and the other than wants to eliminate Ozzy, if we have to eliminate someone. My conundrum is how to navigate between those two potential factions and try to get six out of seven people on the same page without coming off looking like a weasel in the process.

So, now I can see that at least some of my paranoia was unfounded and rather hasty, However, I still want to be cautious and prudent. I don't want to get too comfortable. More later...

Very interesting stuff, Bubba. Especially your direct memory of those events.

Off the top of my head, I would've remember that "Butch" was the 3rd boot, but would've had to look up what the challenge was.

Yeah, I was technically the third boot. But that's only if you include "Jeanne," who was removed from the game presumably due to lack of contact/involvement.

It went Jeanne / Ryan / Butch. So out of the active players, I was the second one gone. And yes, I remember it was the same challenge...because I remember the whole time the challenge was going on thinking that it was about 50/50 that they would still vote me out and there wasn't a whole lot I could do to change it at that point.
