i'm new to this forum but i have been a jori shipper for some time now. i'd love to think about them as a couple in the future, however this is usually ruined by the simple fact that the disney channel has never cast a gay couple, let alone gay characters. the basis for this post is in this article: The Disney Channel Champions Outsiders (Just Not Gay Ones)

in the article gary marsh, president of the disney channel, states "...we don't deal with sexuality on the Disney Channel in general. That's just sort of not where our audience's head's at. They're really a pre-sexual audience, for the most part, and so sexuality is not how we look to tell any kind of stories", which is true to an extent. majority of the disney channel's audience ranges from pre teens to young adolescents, however they aim their content to pre-teens and teens. also, they may not deal with sexuality, but most of the characters in their on going series are in relationships or are talking about relationships or want to be in a relationship. victorious being an example, in which jade and beck have their own storyline until they break up, and even then other characters are jumping at the opportunity to be in a relationship with either of them (ex: trina jumping beck...literally). the article even mentions high school musical, which is an ideal example of disney dealing with 'young love' targeting a teen audience.

anyways, the question i'm posing is if there is a future for jori as more than a friendship. it is evident that disney does not even include outed gay characters, let alone a gay relationship. in the future, i would hope to see that disney does take this step forward, but i'm not sure if they're willing to risk it on a series like victorious, which is already successful as it is. so opinions, thoughts?

ouch, that interview was literally painful to read.

anyway- disney has made 'gay jokes' in the past but they were never of the subtexty, "are they or aren't they" variety. actually, disney gay jokes are like this "wow that guy looks cute.....not that i would know!" and then a laugh track because how are guys supposed to know other guys are cute? this logic probably makes sense to the presexual audience they are talking about. i didn't know what gay was until i was 10 or 11, and even then i didn't get homosexuality at all. including that kind of storyline can isolate the bulk of the audience, which is presumably straight.

i think there are still plenty of jori moments to come. unfortunately i don't think there's a high chance of them actually getting together on the show. victorious is more for teens than kids but it's not a show about relationships.

I'm actually new on this forum, but I'm a Jori shipper for some time.
I really think there's chances for Jori turning into a couple. Great chances.
I mean, it would be amazing to see a gay couple in a teen series. And one day it will have to happen. It may be here one year, two, five. Or it could be now.
I think Dan has everything in hand to make it happen. He managed to create two incredible characters with such different personalities, who have a fantastic chemistry with each other.
And let's remember that it is Dan Schneider, you know. From what I see in his other shows, he loves love/hate relationships.
But everything has a bad side. We know that if one day Jade and Tori actually become a couple, not many people would enjoy it. Some parents would forbid their children to continue watching the show.
But here comes the good side. I think if Jori get together, yes, Victorious will lose some viewers. But on the other hand, the series would make many more viewers.
I really think if people who don't watch the show, know that is the first show from Nickelodeon to have a lesbian couple, they would be interested, and Victorious would be more popular and respected.
Well, there are my points. I do think Jori has a great future, as friends, and as something more. (:
