Using 8K from Scarecrow and 2K from Grundy to pay for him. I do hope everyone enjoys the origin as much as I enjoyed making it. It's an Amalgam of Atom and Manhattan, obviously. Born in 1895, Allen Adam is gifted in the world of science. Physics and relativity is becoming the law among scientists, after Einstein published several of his documents. In 1913, Allen Adam attends Princeton University. In 1923, he graduates and quickly gained employment with the US government. In 1924, he meets Patricia Hudson, the woman that he married less than a year later. In 1928, Nathaniel Adam is born shortly before his father is requested to work on a new project, one they keep in secret from the public. By 1938, the project is known to most government officials as Project Manhattan, which is an attempt to beat the Germans at creating a nuclear weapon. Nathaniel is ten years old and is being home schooled, as his father wishes him to follow in his footsteps. Nathaniel just wants to play and create at this age, but is quickly introduced to everything he'll be learning.
By 1945, in early August, everyone on the team learns the fruition of all their hard labors. Two atomic bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nathaniel is eighteen years old. He has learned nearly everything his father has taught him, though he still wishes to simply create. He doesn't want to make destruction like his father did. His father, in 1946, sends him to Princeton to follow in his footsteps. In 1956, Nathaniel graduates at the top of his class. He is proclaimed a genius by all standards and is considered a potential expert in the fields of nuclear and quantum physics. His minor degree is in mechanical engineering, a slight against his father and his own projected desire to continue creating. Nathaniel is accepted immediately by the government, both for his record in school and for his father's reputation. They have a new project they are working on. Something that seemingly requires less knowledge than what Nathaniel has obtained over the years. A plan to go to space and be among the stars. Despite the lesser challenge, Nathaniel found it far more worthy than creating a bomb.
1957, Nathaniel meets the woman who will be his wife, Jillian Smith. She finds his discussions of quantum physics and mechanics both fascinating and far beyond her scope. She is a working woman, something that only seemed to appear after the second World War. 1960, after three years together, Nathaniel proposes as a small meteor shower burns away in the night sky. It is too beautiful a scene for Jill to say no. They embrace. Six months later, they say their vows. A year later, in 1962, an anti-Communist committee known as the Joint Un-American Activities Committee is assembled. The super heroes that Nathan has seen in the papers since he was a child are to be questioned and eventually forced to reveal themselves or resign. After the Justice Society disbands, many other heroes follow suit. A cool summer night, Nathaniel and Jill turn off this news on the radio to make love under the stars, just as Comet Seki-Lines passes through the sky.
Fall of 1964. It has been years since they started the project to send a man into space. Nathaniel has volunteered to pilot the craft they have built. This craft is his life's work and his most precious possession. His wife, Jill, is worried. She wants Nathaniel to slow down and start a family. Nathaniel assures her that when he comes back to earth, they shall. He plants a tender kiss on her lips before getting dressed up and entering the craft. At noon, the craft, powered by nuclear engines, blasts off into the sky. In two hours time, Nathaniel and his craft reach space. As they break the atmosphere into the cold, dead of space, Nathaniel can only stare in awe as the command crew on the ground ask him what he sees. He tells them it is like heaven, if there is such a thing. He is so focused on the emptiness of space, he doesn't pay attention to the sudden warning light flashing. Not until it is too late. He barely tells command that there is a problem when the craft's engines detonate. The explosion is sudden and over quick. Only a flash of light can be seen from the ground, and it is brief. There is no scream. There is no body or craft. Just the emptiness of space.
A week later a funeral is held. Jill is comforted by most on her loss. The entire team shares stories of Nathaniel in an attempt to keep moods high. The entire project was a failure. Eight years spent on a project ended up a waste. Almost. Officials from government tell them that they can assist NASA in their space project. Meanwhile, at the research center, a scientist and assistant scream when they see what appears to be a ghost in front of them. It is only there for a few moments before disappearing. Two weeks later, a muscled skeleton appears and then disappears. Finally, a fully formed humanoid appears in the middle of a lab. He is perfect in form, though entirely silver. No one knows quite what to do until one of the scientists approach him. They learn that his name is Nathaniel Adam, the man who had died only a month before. Immediately, there is only one trouble with his existence. The Joint Un-American Activities Committee will cause a public massacre if he were revealed. The government's highest officials are informed of his existence and Nathaniel is asked to perform some tests.
These tests determine that Nathaniel is beyond anything that existed before now, perhaps even more than anyone in the Justice Society. While he is tested, Nathaniel does not see himself with them for long. They only wish to use him for their own ends, as a weapon. He knows that they will approach him with this request in the near future. He also knows that they will be disappointed. They even came up with a name to give him when they went public with their new weapon. Captain Atom, something to scare the Reds. Something Nathaniel finds undesirable. He likes his name. He'd rather keep it. Several months go by and finally, after much work and deliberation, the government officials ask Nathaniel to seek out the Reds and disable them. Those same officials end up yelling at Nathaniel only three minutes later when he explains that he has no desire to destroy and that it is not within his power to influence anything. Nathaniel frowns, though no one can tell, and then teleports away. The government does not know where he has left to, but begins an active search. In 1985, after twenty years of searching, they finally close the search.
In 1965, Nathaniel arrives in the middle of the ice continent Antarctica. He knows that no one will come here for fear of freezing to death. Here, he will have privacy. Here, he can finally do what he had wanted to since he was a young boy in an Arizona military research base. Nathaniel raises his hands, and begins to create...

[/dohtml] |

Powers Really can't see how his knowledge skills can give discounts to Made of Energy, Timeless Sense, Energy Supply and Immortal... those are just things that just... are. They're not something he's affecting, it just happens... So, I'm gonna say no to applying the discounts to those powers. Skills Nuclear Physics and Quantum Physics will only give you a 1% discount per level, each, rather than a 2% discount, due to the number of powers they are being applied to. And if you applied that discount based on Firestorm... he was allowed the 2% discount per level because I've explicitely stated that each of the discounts only will apply to 3 powers. Rest seems fine. |

Forgot to implement that Justice uses 8000 base for Vets, not 6000. Makes me wonder if I should redo Grundy or not. Actually, I need to figure that out too, if someone wouldn't mind commenting on that.

[/dohtml] |
