Denton walked calmly through the streets of the mortal town. He needed to speak with the stallion who called himself Shining Glaive. He had been informed by some that he was constructing defenses against Crayak. Wonderful, then all the worse stuff possible that could happen... was probably happening. Sighing, Denton made his way towards Glaive when he spied him. Walking up to the stallion, he spoke mechanically, without any visible emotion.

"You're name is Shining Glaive, if I'm not mistaken. I need to speak with you, regarding this... situation."

Glaive stood up and dusted the dirt from his hooves. There was another rune there, freshly buried. Circle had given him another Zebrican rune that would allow them to keep watch over many areas of the town at once. Such an ability would no doubt be useful.

He turned his gaze to the pony that had approached him. From the outset, Glaive knew this was no ordinary pony. Quite aside from the bizarre mechanical enhancements to his body, the aura surrounding him was much the same as that which permeated the air around Seraph Jael and Arael. Another angel, then.

"You are not mistaken. And considering what you are, I can only assume you mean Midnight's erstwhile mate. Speak, if you have aught to say."

"Indeed I do." Denton began. "Call me JC, and this has to do with more than just Seraph's choice in mares, something that I don't entirely agree with."

"These defenses you're administering, what have you been able to accomplish so far?" He asked, his electric blue eyes glowing through his shades at Shining Glaive.

Glaive nodded and gestured with his hoof, looking over the town he was getting ready to defend.

"I've laid various traps and devices over the town, all triggered remotely rather than by simple proximity. I do not expect them to be of any use against the demon lord himself, but should he bring minions, then the traps should prove to be of some use. I've called in some powerful allies, and arranged for evacuation of the children, elderly and noncombatants."

He turned a steely gaze back the cyborg angel. "Do not speak of Midnight Paradox in such a way. She is a friend, and a good soul."

Denton didn't feel threatened at all by Glaive's stare. The stallion couldn't hurt him. Then again, neither could he hurt the stallion, not without "Permission". Glaive didn't know that, though.

"You can have your beliefs, and I can have mine." JC said, still exhibiting no sign of emotion. "Midnight Paradox has yet to prove to me that she's any better than any other demon. The state and manner of her biological daughter doesn't help much either." He looked at where Shining Glaive had buried the observation rune. "Well placed rune, by the way. You mortals have a talent with sticking things in the ground. The local cemetary is a perfect example."

Looking back at Glaive, he said "And what is the state of the ponies with little enough common sense and too much courage who choose to stay and fight? I haven't seen very many of them around."

"...There aren't many. When the events are fully set into motion, there will be a squadron of Equestria's elite soldiers nearby, ready to be dispatched, but until they arrive, there will be precious few of us to hold the line."

Glaive walked a short distance away and knelt to the ground again. He looked around, muttered under his breath and shook his head. Not here.

"Now. Do you actually have anything useful to say, or are you simply content to merely insult me and my people?"

Denton followed Glaive's path after he asked his question, giving a small snort. "Rather easy to insult, anyways. I've come to apply my services to your cause. I've seen the fighting of a few 'soldiers' you have on your side. You'll be able to hold your own against a demon army for about a week, and then they'll bring in the heavy weapons. I was sent here for two reasons: to evaluate the situations underway, and if a battle was to happen, intervene."

The auged angel stopped a moment, removing his glasses and letting his piercing blue eyes scan over the vicinity, detecting every rune, every inhabitant. A low-frequency hum eminated from his eyes as he did this, and the earth and grass around him seemed to ripple and shake with unseen energy, before JC replaced his shades onto his face. "So far, you seem to be the most able pony I've spoken to who can more or less control their temper. These inscriptions you've placed will be very useful. However, most well-trained demons will know how to remove or otherwise render them useless. Seeing as you're so far the best example of a mortal warrior I've seen, I'm guessing you've introduced countermeasures to prevent aformentioned circumvention."

Glaive froze. He didn't turn his head to look at the angel, and when he spoke, it was a hissed whisper.

"To...intervene. You intervene now. Not when the return of a mad goddess threatened to send all of Equestria into endless night. Not when the Lord of Chaos and Disharmony sought to send all existence into a maddening nightmare of unlogic. No, you wait until now, now that the threat is a demon. Your old foe, one might say. Perhaps the heavens are more interested in their ageless vendetta than they are in protecting the innocents who might be harmed?"

Glaive sighed and walked away.

"I'm not a fool. I won't turn down help when I need it. But do not think, even for a moment, that I trust you, or hold any delusion as to your true purpose. You see, I know your kind. Our kind, I should say. The mission, right? The mission is what matters." He shook his head. "No wonder she holds you and yours in such contempt."

"You may notice a lack of painful lightning coursing through your body." JC replied, suddenly, with a raised voice, that seemed to resonate between the walls. The air gained a tangible electrical sting. "Had we not cared for the lives of innocents, I would have been ordered to rain the wrath of heaven onto earth. Crayak Moxis wouldn't have to invade anything. This town would already be incinerated. Furthermore..."

JC stopped, having had raised up a hoof, which gave off a loud thrumming noise as blue coils of energy jumped from the base of the hoof to the ground. His eyes had glowed significantly brighter, and the grass had begun to stand up straight. Not to mention the fact that dark clouds had begun to gather, dissipating when JC stopped talking. Setting it down, he sighed, looking back at Glaive. "Anyway, when do you expect the rest of your called forces to arrive?"

"They're already in place, under the impression that it's training exercises. One of my closest friends is a ranking officer in the Knight of the Rising Sun. We can send a message in moments, and have them arrive within the hour. Now."

A slow grin grew across Glaive's face. He did oh so love seeing the calm facade of arrogance crack.

"Please, continue what you were saying. Futhermore...what? We would be helpless without you? We're nothing but ants in comparison to your power? Please, enlighten me."

JC sighed. Of course the stallion was having fun with this. These mortals were petty about their pleasure in life. Something JC didn't have time for. "As I was saying..." He began, careful to not lose his cool this time.

"You're not ants, per se. Ants are significantly more organized and controlled by their ruler. You're more like... Wolves, in my oppinion. You stay with your pack so long as you benefit. However..." The aug stopped, his ears flicking for a moment. "All we can do is throw words at each other, something your species varies in skill at. One more reason I have not arrived for other ordeals your plane undergoes, quite frequently by the way; I am only to attack Demons and their pets."

"Ah, I see...wolves, you say? Wolves are a great deal more violent and unpredictable than most ponies, I find, though there is a savage nobility to them as well. But that is a philosophical quandary for another time, I fear. You cannot attack anything, save for demons and their pets? I wonder, then, if you can...defend?"

With no warning, Glaive whipped his hoof out and hurled a knife at the angel's face.

Denton didn't move an inch, and the knife hit soared towards it's target. It only bounced uselessly away, the residual spark of energy in front of Denton's face where the knife struck revealing part of a shield. The knive suddenly rose up, JC's will blasting the blade into microscopic shards, which crackled for a few moments with electricity. Only the handle remained.

The auged angel bowed his head for a few moments, mumbling something completely foreign, and there was a faint crack of light from the sky.

JC sighed, looking down at the hilt for a few moments. "Well, that was a waste, wasn't it? I was expecting you to pull out a demon-corrupted greatsword to try and lop my head off. A molecular dissassembly shield was overkill for just some knife." JC taunted, betraying a small grin.

Glaive stepped forward and brushed a lock of his mane away from his face with a cocky grin.

"Oh ho, so those shiny bits are for more than just decoration, are they? Well. I've never reached to sources of power beyond myself, and honestly, I've never needed to. Besides, it's not as though I don't have more knives to go through. Now then."

Glaive stood on his hind legs and entered a fighting stance.

"If you're to fight alongside me, I would see your capabilities first-hand. Prepare yourself, angel."

Denton's vague smile dissappeared, and he, too, stood on his hindlegs, his leg prosthetics clinking and whirring as the joints shifted position, allowing the angel to stand on his hindlegs with perfect balance. "A gauging of ability? Alright, I can see the point in this. I'm always prepared, Shining Glaive, it comes with the implants."

He gave his mithril wings a stretch, causing them to clink together harmoniously. Denton raised his forehooves in a boxing position, his blue eyes glowing as rings through his glasses. "Come get some."
