Aevia opened her eyes and saw Ziah lying next to her and the black pony standing to the side. "What?...Did...you save me? Even after I attacked you?" She rolled to her hooves but did not stand up. She checked herself for any damage. Nothing major, a few scratches and a bruise where she had first impacted the ground.

She realized what the black pegasus had done for her and lowered her head, attemping to bow on the ground. "Thank you...I guess... I am in debt to you." She raised her head and looked at him. "I never caught your name, pray tell.."

"For I have never spoken it loud." - he extended his hoof to help her get up - "And no, you owe me nothing. The question is not why Should I catch you falling... but why Shouldn't I?"

A spark of care crossed his right eye like a bright-gold thunder, bringing pain to it... still not stinging enough to vanish the calm smile from his face.

"Are you alright? That was some crazy landing, I know..."

"Oh....so what shall I call you? I believe it is improper and slightly rude to call you mister black pegasus.." Aevia rose to her hooves, she was shaken from the fall but not unable to walk. Ziah mystically helped her wielder to her hooves. She held Ziah in her two front hooves while balancing on her two back legs.

"I am fine but thank you. Nothing a little healing meditation can't well...heal."

"The name's Amber Moon. At your service, Miss Aevia. Periena Avea Suo." - he bowed slightly, hitting his chest with hoof. He was observing how the staff was helping her to get up... Interesting is that link with wooden weapon... could it really be soul-linked? But why, the hay, wooden!? His eyes were wandering up and down the staff to finally hang on the red pony.

"Medi-whaa... Meditation?" - he asked with honest confusion in his voice. - "Not better just clean them with water, bandage up and let the Time do it's work?"

After all, how just Thinking could actually close one's wounds?

"Thinking about healing to cure physical wound? That's doesen't make any sense..." - he let out a silent whisper to himself.

"nice to meet you Amber. Please do not call me miss. If you need a precursor to my name, call me Monk Aevia." She shuddered at that. "That sounds weird."

"Listen, just because your perceived notion of meditation is pointless does not mean that it does not work. Matter of fact is is one of the most powerful and influential practices in the world. Meditation can do almost anything."

Ziah would have sent Amber flying to the moon if she had not been helping Aevia stand.

Amber's eyes seemed to grow a bit darker, as the tension in his hooves came to his calmed down senses.

"Well... but you don't have to use your Meditation to at least abrade yourself... here." - his wing ducked under his coat to pull a snow-white piece of soft cloth. He then grabbed it with hoof and extended it to her.

"Two pieces of cloth, a piece of rope, something to ignite fire and sharp wings. All you really need to survive in any circumstances." - he proudly announced, locking his gaze on her eyes. - "Please, forgive me, I mean no offense in my words! I... just I don't belive in something that cannot be logically explained... and I really can't see how that... Meditation... would work? Thinking about good things... is good, but making it happen with just your mind? S-sorry, I don't want to sound ignorant..."

But that really makes NO freakin sense!

"Lets just say I know just a bit more about meditation than you, being that it has been my life." Aevia said. "Lets drop this. I am fine, I can heal myself."

Aevia dropped to the ground, seemingly loosing her grip on Ziah...and passed out. Ziah too dropped lying next to Aevia on the ground.

Hearing the sudden drop in her voice's strenght Amber made one step forward, just to see how she's crumbling to the ground.

"Um, everything okay? Mi... Aevia?" - he slowly approached her, almost jumping at the end. - "Aevia! Daira de'cestei, what's going on, are you alright!? Aevia!"

Without thinking he extended his hooves forward to grab and tilt her, to see if she's conscious... when suddenly pain grew in him...

His right eye bursted with thunder, as the burning liquid filled it from inside. "Seal, dairaaa!" - he shouted, momentally covering his eye. Dah! The seal! Daira! The pain... I have to overcome... it... breathing heavily he examined her with one eye. Don't think about it, Amber! Analyze! No bleeding. A few scratches. Stable... Movement in chest, she's breathing. She's damn exhausted... I'll take her to safety, if only...

His eye stopped on Ziah, so peacefully resting by her side now. Too peacefully.

"Listen, you! Ziah! I don't know what the hell are you and what magic propels you! But your Master cannot stay here any longer! I'm taking her into safety no matter what will you do! SO OBEY!" - with a scream on his lips he grabbed Ziah with his hoof, preparing for a mighty slam...

...but nothing like that happened.

"Uff, at least one good thing today... hmm... my eye won't be any better too." - he uncovered the brighter eye, mounting Ziah on her back. Wings tired, but hooves even more. That means flight.

He bursted open his wings, tension raising between the feathers... he grabbed her exactly the same way he did before and slowly lifted above the ground level, turning to the town of Ponyville, hoping not to draw too much attention...

Welcome to Ponyville. I hope you'll enjoy your ride. Destination: The Stronghold...

---------------------------

The heavy, studded door hit the wall, as tired pegasus used the rest of his strenght to buck it open. Dragging her inside he took a look around the lower level of his small, but cozy house. Cold, stone-like walls reflected little light struggling to get inside past small, gothic windows. Wooden floor creaked silently, as he placed her on the only furniture downstairs - a dark red, L-shaped sofa. The room was overall dark - in fact, even when the sun was up, Amber had to burn candles to not allow his guests to stay in darkness.

Other thing was, Amber Moon really liked darkness. And nopony was really visiting his house.

Feeling the cool air hanging heavily downstairs, Amber approached a stone chimney, grabbed something from above it and threw to its metal jaw. A pleasant wave of heat soon hit him, bending his mane back. Covering his eyes, Amber went upstairs, giving one more, final gaze to the red pony resting with her staff on the sofa.

Since then he went down only once. After not even five minutes he dragged a thick, black blanket and covered her under it with one throw. Making sure she's covered well he went back upstairs, stopping only once to watch her for a short moment.

A few hours later, Aevia woke up. She was covered in a blanket in a dark room with only a few candles to shed light. She lay on an l-shaped couch. She felt weak, "Ziah..." Hearing her wielder, Ziah jumped to action, setting herself in Aevia's hooves. "Oh good you're ok." She hugged her instrument. "Where are we?" Aevia said as she hopped off of the couch onto her still unsteady hooves.

Then she remembered, Amber. He must have brought us here. Aevia shared with Ziah through unspoken word. Aevia noticed stair leading to somewhere and slowly climbed them.

"Amber? Are you here?"

Upon hearing her voice, Amber turned his head back. He was laying on the floor of upper, much brighter room, surrounded by some books - some of them open. The general mess of the preciptious attic, metal rings scattered everywhere, an imitation of bed made of thick mattress, creased pillow and thin red-white blanket, his black and green saddlebags thrown carelessly into the corner and some disabled device, dismounted tube standing by the largest of windows - all of this was seemingly not interrupting the research he's been doing since he got here.

Three windows - one biggest, in one half on roof and two still bigger than those downstairs at the only two, triangle walls - were now burning with the light of late afternoon. Compared to the one downstairs, this room was far brighter - and far much messier.

"I see you're doing better. Are you alright?" - he told, seeing her head peeking from the stairs.

"I guess I am. I can walk on my own. I guess that fight really took too much out of me. Especially after running and walking non-stop from the monastery." Aevia said. "Which brings me to my next question. Do you have any food? I hate to pry but..." Her stomach grumbled loud enough for Amber to hear.

A faint smile painted on his face.

"You don't have to ask. Miane Ithmera Daiene It'tavasu. May my Home be Your Fortress. You will read it at the door." - he stood up and, carefully not to stomp on anything, approached the stairs.

"I've figured out you have to be exhausted. Do not overtax your hooves. Just lay down the sofa, cover yourself... I'll make you some hot nosh." - saying that he slowly approached the chimney, grabbed two more of that "things" above it and threw them into it. The flame grew brighter, illuminating the room almost as good as the sun upstair's.

"Thank you..." Aevia said. For once, she got to relax and be served. It was quite a change. Back at the monastery she had to cook for herself. Ziah poked her, muttered something rude about Amber, clearly Ziah was not happy that they were in his home and helped her down the stairs and back onto the couch.

'Stop it! He is a nice pony, sure he is rude but get over it.' Aevia glared at Ziah, once again with out uttering a word.

Amber passed a narrow door frame leading to small and completly dark kitchen. I promised myself to buck some window spots a month ago... eh. I can't see bloody thing... - he poked the air a couple of times before strucking a small crystal with his hoof. A faint, green light emanated from it as it begun to wiggle on a chain attached to the ceiling. Silly source of light, but whatever works and is not paranormal...

After a couple of minutes he entered the main room again, carrying two black, metal pots.

"So, Aevia... hope I can call you that simply? Even before I dragged you here I assumed it was not our little... "struggle"... that drained all your strenght... " - he begun, mounting the pots over the happily roaring fire.

"Yes, Amber." Aevia stated. "I...Ran away from...my masters exam.... It was quite a ways from here. I pick up my things and ran. Ran as far as I could, Ran as long as I could and more. It took me at least 4 days. I lost most of my things on the way, all except my hoof-made harness and Ziah."

Aevia coughed..and coughed...and kept coughing. 'What is this? I've never gotten sick. What can't I stop coughing?' She thought. "Zi--ah...com.e...."

Ziah flew to her after magically exploring the house. Aevia led a hoof over a few certain gems on Ziah and glowed, the red staff-bearer focused on the gems. After a few seconds, she stopped coughing as well as her cuts and injuries slowly heal.

"much...better..." Aevia said weakly. "Thank you Ziah"
