Seraph lay on the fountain, eyes closed in meditation. He had to locate a source of power, and with any luck, the gods would grant him a vision with a location. His breathing was steady, his heartbeat... the perfect cadence... The weather was agreeing with him and the breeze cooled him from the warmth of the sun. Yes, these conditions for meditation were, in a word, perfect.

As Seraph sat silently, Snowball was returning home from school, carrying a rather heavy book in one of her saddlebags. It wasn't homework - thankfully - but rather it was a book that told of Equestria's history, or more importantly the Pre-Equestrian times. Back when the ponies had come together and their friendship had saved them from death.

Why had she taking this book of all things home? Windigoes. Something some of the other schoolfillies were saying were bothering her - they were calling her something strange, and she wanted to know what it was.

"Afternoon Seraph!" she chirped as she walked through the door, before noticing that he was trying to meditate, whatever good that did him. Quickly she shrunk back, silently apologizing as she walked by.

Seraph's concentration was interrupted by the high pitched squeak of Snowball's voice. He let out a frustrated huff, and then a light chuckle. "Afternoon, Snowy." He said, noticing the big book she was carrying "What you got there?" He asked. Might as well make conversation since his session of meditation had ceased.

Looking back at her saddlebag, she smiled as she took the book out. "It's a book that goes into further detail on the history behind Hearths Warming Eve." she said, looking at it. "But what I'm particularly interested in is something the other schoolfillies said to me - they compared me to a windigo at school yesterday." she told him. "It didn't disturb me, but..."

Seraph's smile disappeared, but he quickly put one back on. "A windego? Why would they be calling you that?" He asked. In reality, he knew exactly why. Because she was one. But what would he do if she found out? What would midnight do to him if he LET her find out? Was she ready to know something this big?

"That's what I'm wondering." she replied, opening the door. "I know Wendigoes are spirits that feed off negative emotion and destroy the land, but if they're only saying that because of the cold air it just doesn't make sense..." she spoke, opening the pages. "Do you know anything about them?" she asked, her ears falling to her sides as her eyes turned toward the pages.

Seraph let his smile drop once Snowball was distracted with her book. "Only what I've read about them." He lied. He knew quite a large bit about Windegos. But he'd already promised not to divulge any of that. "They say that Windegos were abundant in the times before the three races alied. They're supposed to be extinct..."

"Hm..." she said, frowning. She had hoped he'd at least know something, to give her a better idea of where to start looking, but nevertheless at least she had the book to read. "Alright then. Are you going to start meditating again?" she asked, looking up at him.

(Sorry, can't think of anything more to post.)

"Unless you need anything else, I may as well." Seraph said. He re-situated himself on the fountain and began his meditation once again, but not before opening an eye and checking on the little filly.

When Seraph checked, Snowball was sitting on a small bench less than ten lengths away, silently reading the book. She was aware of his need for silence, having been kindly reprimanded by him at least once for it a few years back.

----

An hour passed, and Snowball was now completely distracted by the book. It was clear she wasn't going anywhere unless someone called her away from it.

Seraph had been sitting there, unmoving for the whole hour. Some birds had found suit to perch on him, one right on top of his head. He continued to see nothing, until a vision began to present itself to him. There was a trail leading through a thick forest, which lead into the side of a mountain. The cave that he was seeing had walls that appeared to be made of glass, shining the light of the sun all throughout.

Just as the cave got it's darkest there was a sudden flash of light and he saw a bird's eye view of the forest. His view panned to the left and he could see, in all it's glory, a huge mountainside temple embedded in the rock. The final thing was the temple becoming farther and farther away, faster and faster until everything was a blur. Eventually he could see... himself... getting close just as fast until his vision slammed into himself, knocking him into the fountain with a splash and sending the birds flying.

Seraph emerged from the water of the fountain, wide eyed. "Á CAELES!" He shouted in his home language.
