Wavelength walked around the training grounds of the Royal Castle in Canterlot, his eyes following the movements of all of the activity around the yard. He saw his heavy armor units clashing against each other, the collision of their armor causing a loud banging noise to cover every corner of the yard. The magic users being forced to concentrate more than usual to hit the targets that Wave had been gradually moving backwards as he saw fit, at this point the targets were sitting at a hundred yards, and only a few of them were still consistent with their shots. If those few remain consistent up to over two-hundred yards, then they would be chosen to train with Artillery squad to see if they could make the cut.

Everything was running smoothly, and it had been ever since Wavelength had become major and had replaced the old staff at the military academy with some ponies that he trusted. It had become so much easier when he didn't have to reteach every single lesson to every new recruit that graduated.

Wave then made his way over to the target range and picked up a bow, it wasn't the huge artillery bow that he had become so accustomed to at this point, but it would have to do. He strung the bow with magic and set an arrow inside, drawing the bolt as far back as the magic enhancing bow would allow, until he let it fly across the range until it buried itself into the center of the target. By this time, the recruits had all stopped their work, instead deciding to watch someone who they considered to be a legend hit bulls eye after bulls eye.

After about ten shots, Wavelength set the bow down and turned to see a crowd had gathered around him, all of them cheering for his performance. He just sighed and turned back towards the main yard to check up on how everyone else's training was going, "Get back to work," he said as he left, "I expect at least one bulls eye out of each of you before the day ends," every magic user in the vicinity was inspired by this new challenge which forced them to be better than they already were.

Wavelength then continued on his way around the training grounds, checking up on everything that was happening, "Its like I don't even need to check up on them anymore, they're all so motivated," he said as a small smile spread across his face.

Its been a year or two since Bladeborn stepped within the Royal Training grounds. For the most part he was stuck doing paperwork and training the new squires that may enter his order, Needless to say that now as he cantered through the halls he saw many new faces...Almost none of the old ponies he used to work with were still around, and he doubted the ponies that were here knew him by sight anyway.

Bladeborn grew in overall size over the years and filled out into an impressive stature this was only magnified by his heavy Gold plate intricately trimmed with silver. Around his neck was the inert pieces of his old Blade Equinox fit snugly into his Harness. After watching Wavelength show up all of the newer guards he stepped outside following the Major.

"Trainees train harder when they have a standard to beat...A symbol to Surpass." He smirked some as he stepped just next to Wavelength.

"Good to see you again."

Wavelength turned to Bladeborn and smiled before facing forward again, "Its especially effective if that symbol is someone most of them don't think they can surpass, then the few who believe they can surpass that symbol truly begin to become great."

"I mean they never will surpass me," he said as he turned back to Bladeborn and stopped walking around the yard, "I'm a living legend apparently."

He looked around as they stood in the middle of the yard, remembering back to the last time he met up with the knight over six years ago, "You remember the last time we were here," he said as he looked at his colleague, "We had a little show match and you beat me," he said with a chuckle, thinking back to just how embarrassing that fight had been.

"Not that I'm suggesting that we fight again," he said with a chuckle, "I've gotten older and I'm not quite at my prime anymore." Of course that was a lie, Wavelength had been getting stronger and stronger with each year that passed by. This was something great about being a magic user, while physical fighters got weaker with age, his magic just got better and better the more he researched and practiced.

Bladeborn nodded and allowed himself a smirk at the memory.

"The Great Captain Wavelength Versus the "Bladecasting Master" Bladeborn Eclipse!" He said in a mocking announcer's voice. "But whats this? Wavelength brought a bow to a Sword fight!" He continued finally settling down chuckling as he did so.

"I remember the day fondly, Major." He glanced around the training yard "I don't see a single familiar face around here...I guess you did some remodeling?"

"Hopefully the next time we meet in combat, it'll be as allies instead of enemies," Wavelength said as he looked around the yard.

"Remodeling is not a strong enough word for what I had to do around here," he said with a smile, "Its more along the lines of demolishing it and rebuilding from the foundation upwards into the house of gold it is now. I hate to toot my own horn, I really do, but changing around this place has to be the greatest move I've made as a Major."

"Not to say that your accomplishments are anything to spit at of course," He said as he turned back to Bladeborn, "How has the Order been? They're not under my jurisdiction, but I'd like an update if you don't mind."

Bladeborn rolled his eyes a bit at the Major's request. "Gust is a full fledged Knight...And I've been swamped with Paperwork delegated to me by the Marshal. Other than that, the order is stable in numbers, In no shortage of arms or Armor and currently we have a record high in the amount of Knights patrolling the different population centers. All in all: Quite good." He listed this off and glanced to a training ring where two Guards with sparing with Swords...He frowned a bit.

"Say. I need to replace my Blade Major, Do you know of anyone that is proficient at finding Gemstones?"

"Rarity is the only pony that I know of that could find gems consistently," Wavelength said with a shrug, "I've tried my hoof at it, and I've managed to find a few once or twice, but I've never been able to find huge pockets of them, and even when I just find one or two its usually by accident."

"However, if you want some high quality gemstones, I know a place that sells some amazingly high quality uncut diamonds. Its expensive, but I know you have the money."

"Money isn't an issue...But I'm looking for a very specific type of gem. Diamonds are nice and hardy..But not exactly the most conductive to magic. I'm looking for Alexandrite." He smirked some.

"Though where is this diamond place? I may still browse it." He paused a moment chewing over his next words.

"We really should have a go at each other again, eventually...I did promise you a rematch after all, in your element though."

"Its called Bobs, Bands, and Bangles, just go in and ask for Bangles and tell him that I sent you, he'll show you his stock after that."

Wavelength lifted a brow at Bladeborn's suggestion, "Well, I'm not really sure a show of who is the better shot will really be much of a contest. Its not that I doubt your abilities, its just that you were always trained in swords, a magic enhancing bow is a different beast entirely. However, I would be happy to face you in melee combat again, standard swords this time, and no long ranged magic on my part."

Bladeborn nodded smirking "Great to hear, well work something out when I replace my sword." He glanced around again.

"Say, have any of your recruits caught your eye specifically, yet?"

"Some of them are pretty good, but none of them are really battle ready at this point," Wavelength said as he noticed some of the magic users had hit their bulls eye and had left for the day, only a couple of them remained, "I might have to move them off of the ranged magic unit if they can't hit a bulls eye at a hundred yards on a stationary target."

"Some of them are definitely far better than the others, but none of them are really up to my standard yet. If they were then I'd move them up to the artillery unit."

"Speaking of." He started turning to face Wavelength fully "I'm extremely proficient in melee combat...But Anything farther than mid range is a particular weakness of mine. Think you could run me down a sort of abridged crash course, quick?"

Wavelength raised one eyebrow is a somewhat shocked and confused manner, "You're joking right? I'm the pony who put on a clinic on how to take down an enemy from a thousand yards. If I can't teach you how to shoot in less than five minutes, I'll go door to door and give them a refund."

He then walked across the yard towards the firing range and picked up a short bow, it wouldn't give any user the greatest range, but it was the best for teaching, "This is a short bow, its what most of the ponies in the Army use for any sort of ground on ground engagement. Its deadly up to fifty yards and effective up to a hundred, after that the spell will usually lose enough momentum to become inefficient at penetrating armor. Its also very easy to maneuver, allowing us to stay mobile while firing, which is major advantage over other long ranged fighters. While they have to stay still to use their claws or talons to use their weapons, we are hoof free, allowing us to run around the battlefield and be evasive and deadly at the same time."

He picked up the bow with his magic and conjured a string between the two gemstones sitting at the top and bottom, "These are rubies at the tips of the bow, allowing for magical conduction between the bow and the user which enhances the power of the spell to a certain extent. I'm personally a fan of sapphires for short bows, but how gems interact with bows as opposed to swords is a completely different topic."

"Once you've done that, you just conjure and arrow or some other projectile into the bow," he said as he magicked up an arrow, "Then just pull back, aim, and fire."

With that, Wavelength shot the spell, sending it flying through the air, landing in the center of the target and quickly evaporating into the air, leaving only a hole where the arrow had been before. "As you can see, its not that hard, go ahead and give it a shot now."

Bladeborn followed along with Wavelength's instructions watching intently on how he strung the bow and how the spell formed...He stepped over to the Range and picked up a short bow in his magic testing the pull needed for this particular bow. After a few moments of getting read he brought the bow up and focused on his spell.

Bladeborn's horn flashed into life and as the arrow formed tendrils of the golden aura spun and shifted into mid-air as Bladeborn's magical prowess came into the equation full tilt. His horn took on a second layer of light as he pulled the bowstring back as he sucked in a breath and held it to steady his aim.

The short bow snapped itself back into its original position as the drawstring shot forth causing the arrow of light to surge forward towards the target striking through it just inside the first yellow ring.

Bladeborn nickered a bit as he caught where his shot landed. "Looks like I twitched just before shooting."

"Perhaps," Wavelength said as he walked across the range towards the target, "It doesn't help that the feathers on your arrow weren't conjured properly, and the arrow head was too large. The projectile might be magic, but it still has weight and it can be manipulated by wind so to hit the right shot every time requires every single arrow you create to be perfect, as well as your technique."

Wavelength then walked back and conjured three arrows in front of him, each of them exactly the same, each of them perfect, "Took me years to be able to consistently make a basic arrow, and even longer to be able to make them with various heads and lengths."

"Your shot was a lot better than a lot of the recruit's first attempts though," Wavelength said with a smile as the arrows evaporated, "I'm impressed."
