Puzzle Pigment was trodding along the side of a wall, having run away from her house again. She stared at the wall as she walked, lines of yellow tape with the word "CONDEMNED" on them decorated the wall. She continually mumbled strings of words and numbers under her breath, at the same time, her mind and it's sub-minds were babbling away. Wall here, smells bad, condemned tape... The TAPE blocks some of the WALL. The calculation won't be right. And if the calculation isn't right... then... wait, what was that? It came from inside, sounds like... laughing... giggling. Somepony is in there. They're stupid. They'll mess up the volume calculation. Gotta go inside, find them, get them out and do the volume first. Agreed? AGREED.
With that one conversation over, Puzzle changed direction, walking through the loose door, and peaking inside. "It's dark... little light, probability of sunshine and increased light after dilapidation of ceiling and walls..." She continued mumbling as she walked in further, looking from one place to another, trying to find the source of the giggling.

From the center of the small abandoned home, a pink filly sat in the living room, a small tray of paint at her side, and an easel in front of her. A strange painting sat before her, and she was staring into its depths, giggling lightly. Her blue eyes sparkled as the gears in her head turned. The painting's name was Sunny Daze, she decided, and she loved going out in the sun and participating in sports, but that meant she was hardly ever around to play. I'll have to draw a beach sometime. she thought to herself, giggling as the concept amused her.
With the familiar hum of unicorn magic, she picked the painting up out of the easel and attached it to the wall for her to look at anytime. She was bored now, time to play, but with who? Frowning, she looked around, before picking up another painting and setting it on the easel. "Hello again, Dewdrop Dazzle..." she whispered, her giggling taking a slightly demented tone.

As Puzzle approached the room that the filly occupied, her ears twitched, pupils dilating, but irises retaining their beadiness. Hear them... not him, her... sounds like... Parabola? Me? What am I doing in there? I'm here, in you! The voice in Puzzle's head giggled, a mirror sound of the filly that was staring at... numbers. Lots of numbers.
Puzzle gave a small sound like a short grunt mixed with a squeak, and she tentatively stepped closer to the pink blob of paint shaped like a pony, which was what Puzzle saw her as. "Parabola..." She muttered.

A smile came to the filly's lips as she stared deeper into the numbers. "No, silly, it's me, Toola-Roola!" she replied, unaware of the pony behind her. "Geez, when are you gonna get my name right, silly filly? Maybe if you didn't spend so much time lost in your numbers you could take the time to learn some names? No? Aw well then..." she said, turning around and finding herself face-to-face with another pony.
For a moment Toola just stared at Puzzle, looking her over. "134 red, 0 green, 58 blue...ew." she said out loud to herself, wrinkling her nose. "19 red, 21 green, 115 blue would look so much better. Doesn't she know anything?" she asked.
"Hello there." Toola finally said, looking up at Puzzle and making no attempt to fix the disgusted look on her face. "Who... painted you?" she asked.

As Toola spoke the numbers, Puzzle mouthed them, ears twitching again. "...Painted?" She repeated the word, taking another step forward. "Wasn't painted. You should know that. ...Name isn't supposed to be with so many letters. You're not..." She looked over at the painting. "Binary..." She muttered, walking over to it, her eyes flitting over it. "Binary lines, you... you drew this? Must... must understand it, right...?" She looked at Toola again. "...Right?"

Toola Roola frowned. Not painted? How could that be? Taking a step back in disbelief, she accidentally bumped into the easel, which made the only outside noise to break the silence. Then, Puzzle approached the painting and began to study it, as if looking for some deeper meaning. Funny, Dewdrop was just as obsessed with the numbers.
"I did draw it." the light pink unicorn said happily. "But if you want someone who could tell you what it all means, I'd try talking to Dewdrop Dazzle and asking her about it. She tried to explain it to me once, but I didn't have the slightest idea what she was talking about, so I just nodded my head while I pretended to understand." she said, looking at the painting. "Well, come on, Dewy, say hi to the nice not-a-painting."

Puzzle looked from the easel to Toola, blinking a few times. "Dewy...?" She stared at the painting for a while, and eventually, her own addled perception began to alter it. The numbers stared moving, flickering, and Puzzle tried to follow their movements. "1, 0, middle is 0.5, 9 tenths minus wholemaking value, 99 hundredths, 999 thousandths..." She continued muttering, even as, to her and possibly to Toola Roola, the painting became a mirror.
Don't get it... she should see them, why can't she SEE them? She's fun! I like her! Well I don't...
"You... you can't see them." Puzzle said allowed. "You CAN'T see the numbers... You see the colors, colors special, but numbers more special and you can't SEE them. Stupid. I'm leaving." Puzzle turned to leave, before she froze. All six of her other personalities were roaring their dissapproval in the form of bombarding her with rows of numbers and functions.
"eeEEEEeeEEeeeooooonnnsssssecond thhhhought..." Puzzle said slowly, unable to think with the six others working against her. Obviously, they wanted her to stay with this filly who drew the numbers but couldn't see them. The filly turned around, to stare at Toola. "Can't leave. They..." She gestured to the area around them. "They want me to stay... stay in here..."

As Puzzle turned to leave, immediately there was an uproar in the small living room that only Toola could hear - the voices for every painting on the walls were causing a commotion, clamoring at her to stop the other filly from leaving, even if her colors were horrendous.
As Toola-Roola raised a hoof to touch the other pony's shoulder, she suddenly stopped, as if lost in thought, then turned around to look at Toola, where they stayed like this for a moment, the two of them inches from each other's face. "You... You can hear them too? My... friends, that is?" she asked, a smile coming to her face.

"Them... hear them..." Puzzle muttered, her eyes flitting about the floor around Toola's hooves. "Hear them, them. I hear them, all of them. Sometimes they talk, or laugh, or scream..." She felt the six consciousnesses in her mind give a unified approving sound as she continued to talk to Toola Roola. She didn't, personally, like this filly very much, but they seemed to want them to keep talking.
"I can hear them... they're your friends?" Puzzle said this as if it was shocking to her. "They were never very friendly to me..."

"Of course they're my friends, I made them all." Toola replied, walking around the perimeter of the room and looking at each abstract painting one by one. "Though, a few of them get really touchy if I ignore them for too long, like Razaroo here. I can't leave her alone for much longer than a few days, then she starts to yell at me with lots of unkind words..." she said, frowning slightly, before looking back at Puzzle. "So what are my friends saying to you now?"

Puzzle fumbled with her forehooves, rocking back and forth slightly on her haunches as her thin-pupilled eyes flitted about the room at all the pictures. "Them... talking... talking about you... they talk... and me too... they can see the numbers, but they don't get them... like you." She muttered, her head swivelling about to look at the pictures all around. "They talk... they talk about me like I am special. Am special. Only one who can see the numbers...
"So many..." The number-obsessed filly began to count them, ears flapping occasionally.

A smile crept to Toola's face as the other filly began to say hi to her friends. Everything was going just perfect in her eyes - even if this new filly had a poor taste of color, like the artist just didn't know what they were doing. "My friends like you too." she said, her voice quite plain and decisive. "Especially Dewdrop Dazzle. She's all about the numbers." she added, gesturing toward the picture of the cascading numbers that was on the easel at this point in time.

"Fifteen, twenty... twenty two..." Puzzle flinched, looking back at Toola, and then the picture she was gesturing to. "N-numbers..." She muttered, watching it again. Immediately, to her perception, the numbers began moving again. "Th-thing... it moves... she moves. She's... she's like us." She spoke, staring at it in awe. "Like us, she can see... see the numbers. We're not alone..."

"Of course we're not alone, silly!" Toola replied, following Puzzle's gaze as she peered around the room once again.
As she opened her mouth to speak again, her stomach grumbled, and she frowned. "I'm hungry." she complained, before pulling out a new canvas from a nearby cupboard and getting to work painting once more.

"Not alone, not alone..." The filly continued repeating this for a few seconds. There was a hint of a smile on her face.
Puzzle looked back at Toola, cocking her head to one side. "Hungry." She repeated. "Nopony here but us and you and them... do... do they give you food? We don't eat much..." She looked at one of the buckets of paint, dipping her hoof in the deep blue color, and then beginning to hoofpaint on the floor. It began as the base for the quadratic equation, a-x-squared plus b-x plus c equals zero, and grew longer from there. She was incorporating the number of "Friends" Toola had, and she stopped, her hoof still dripping blue paint, as she looked back at Toola with her usual wide-eyed expression.
"Name. Name. What was your name? We need your name... need it for the equation..."
