Eve watched Nova turn and walk into the bathroom. Of course she knew his name was Nova, but what was the point of using his real name? He was just another cog in the machine, another board to vault herself off of, there was no use in naming every single step on a ladder an individual name, so she called him how she saw it. The sound of the water running in the shower came from the bathroom, and she got up and walked over to the door, more out of curiousity than anything.
Standing outside of the door, her gaze boring into the wood grain of the door, as though she was trying to see through it. She deliberated what she wanted to do next, weighing each individual option carefully like a surgeon deciding what their procedure would be. Hmm... do I leave him be? No, where's the fun in that? If I were to do that I may as well go back to sleep. Should I open the door and jump in there with him? No, that is ridiculous, even for me. Then again, why am I standing outside the bathroom door in the first place? Curiosity may have killed the cat on more than one occasion, but I am no cat. Perhaps a compromise is in order...
Her slight gaze flicked downward to the handle of the bathroom door, raising a hoof to it. I'm sure if I stay quiet enough, he will not notice me-- The sound of the water stopped, and she withdrew her hoof quickly, a scowl forming on her face. Damnit, too slow! Could you not have taken a little longer? She immediately turned and quickly walked back to the couch, slowing the descent of her hoofsteps so as not to make much noise. It was a technique she had used countless times, and she had become near masterful at sneaking about. It was what her line of work entailed, and the loud predator never made the kill.
She settled herself back on the couch a few seconds before she heard the door to the bathroom open once more, listening to the steps of his hooves as he made his way back to the living area. She looked over at him lazily, a slight smile crossing her face as she looked at the damp pegasus that stood in front of her. And he didn't want to be called pretty boy...
Her smile faded as she listened to the rules he was laying down. When he finished, she gave a loud sigh and stood up, faking a look of apology. "Nova, I just moved here. I left my friends behind in Stalliongrad, and I won't be hearing from them again unless they sent a letter... which they don't." She looked out a window with a frown, saying the last bit in a stretched whisper that gave her voice an odd hissing quality. She looked back at him a little more seriously, "I'm no cheapskate pretty b-- Nova. I will pay you for my share of rent if those damn movers continue to insist on taking their sweet time. I appreciate you letting me stay here."
She walked past him, towards the bedroom that he was in before that he promised she could stay in, pausing at the doorway as she said, "Well, enjoy your shift, Nova. Tell me, is there a spare key here just in case I need to leave for any reason?"

Nova was pleased with the answer, well it was satisfactory at least. "I keep a spare key on the hook by the door." he said, grabbing his duffle and heading for said door. "Alright, I'm out. Have a nice night. I'll probably be back at around two or three if I decide not to go by the Trough afterwards." he strapped his bag to his back, giving his wings full motion again. He headed for the door, undoing the many locks and opening it. "So, uh... Bye." He left and closed the door behind himself. He sighed in the hallway, how did he get stuck like this? A completely unexpected roommate, not to mention unwanted. Stardust wouldn't like this one bit. He was sure of it.

Hargreaves waited patiently as she watched Nova leave the apartment, waiting at least ten minutes for him to be out of the building and a good distance away. She then stepped out of the doorway to the bedroom and looked out the window, looking down at the streets, watching the shadows grow to engulf the city as the sun went to sleep. The world looked beautiful during this hour, not because of the lighting and the golden tints in the sky, but because it signified that it would soon be time for her to go to work as well.
And she loved her job.
Trotting over to the door, she grabbed the spare apartment key that Nova had mentioned and left the apartment, going down the hallway to her own. Unlocking the door and stepping into the stuffy and overwhelming dark of her apartment, she walked over to the counter and picked up the sheathed blade that lie in wait for her on the counter. She looked at the blade and smiled, talking to it as though it were her lover, "My apologies, dearest weapon. I was tied up with a new friend and I had to convince him to let me stay with him." She pressed the sheathed blade to her left foreleg, her horn glowing as a magic aura surrounded the straps, making them tighten themselves around her leg in a familiar grip.
She closed her eyes and let out a deep sigh. It felt incredible to have the weapon back where it belonged, at her side and ready. She unbuttoned knife from the scabbard that was tied to her front leg with a almost inaudible click! as she levitated the knife in front of her face, scrutinizing it carefully.
It was most certainly a beautifully made tool. The full tang blade of stainless steel reflected with a proud sheen and threw the remaining light back across the room as she slowly turned the knife over and over, admiring the sharpness, the lustre, and the wickedly simple, but deadly clip point at the tip. She experimentally touched her hoof on the point and admired how little effort it took to draw blood. It only took six inches of metal stabbed in the right location to kill, but this monster was a good inch and a half extra, more than enough to satisfy Hargreaves' desire for a bit of overkill.
Her eyes slowly followed down it's back to the minimalist crossguard. While it wouldn't be much use to her as she wielded the blade magically, it gave the knife an aesthetic that was simple and pleasing to the eye. The frosting on the cake, however, was the handle. It was constructed from what she could only guess was the finest micarta, with silver and nickel pins holding it in place, with a small lanyard hole near the pommel, all coated in what felt like a satin finish. The micarta was black, but finished in a pleasing wood texture that grabbed her attention and made her eyes follow it up, down, and around the blade. It looked like whoever was gripping this handle was gripping a hoofful of smoke. She shuddered lightly as her hoof slid across it. So simple, so deadly, so elegant.
Delicately lowering the blade onto the tip of her hoof, she found the balance point of the handle heavy blade. Just barely below the guard, perfect for throwing precisely, not that she would want to risk damaging the gorgeous weapon by carelessly tossing it in such a manner. She slid it slowly back into it's leather sheathe, like a mother setting her child back into it's cradle, tucking it in with the small clasp that held the blade in the scabbard, a satisfying snap resounding from it as she opened her eyes from the bliss of feasting her eyes on the knife. It was love at first sight with it, and that love for it continued.
She turned around and immediately left the apartment, going down the stairs and exiting the building. It was time to earn her pay. It was time for a night on the town.

Later that night...
The sound of a key turning in a lock could be heard in the remodelled apartment. A click of the pins align and the lock disengaging sounded before the door creaked open and a light gray unicorn mare walked in, shutting the door behind her. Eve was back from her night job, and the smile on her face was evidence of how successful it was. The bitpurse that hung around her neck jangled, fat and heavy from the spoils of the night.
Having left her knife back in her own locked apartment as well as some of the extra bits, she covered all of the bases. She walked over to a nearby coffee table and opened up the bit purse, counting out half of what the renting rate was in the building and setting it down. That tied up that loose end, she was now untraceable and in the clear.
Giving a heavy sigh, Eve walked back into the bedroom that Nova said she could sleep in, crawling onto the bed and slipping herself under the covers. Like the couch, this was more comfortable than the hard and broken mattress in her apartment. She took a deep breath and was very quick to fall asleep, the last thing going through her mind was the fact that the sheets smelled like Nova.

Nova returned home around 2:30 in the morning. It was a nice short beat today and he was relieved early. There was nothing interesting going on at the Shady Trough, so he decided it's be best to just go home and drink the rest of the night away, alone, seeing as how Stardust was busy with her own duties. He unlocked his door and walked inside, relocked the door and plopped his bag by the couch, followed by himself onto it.
There was really nothing to do except read, drink and screw. And while he was sure that he wouldn't be screwing anytime soon, and he had no interest in reading. He get back up and went straight for the fridge, grabbing the nearest six-pack of alcoholic cider he had stored inside. He sat himself back onto the couch and cracked open his first one, then guzzled down nearly half of it on the spot.
In all honesty, it probably wasn't such a great idea for him to drink so quickly. He'd gone through two already in a very short amount of time. The buzz passed over like a speeding wonderbolt and he felt the drunkenness kick in quickly. Everything seemed a whole lot happier though, like he nothing mattered and he could sit down all night drinking. He cracked open number three.

Eve woke up to the sound of a door shutting and a bunch of things moving about. Giving a little growl in tired annoyance, she rolled over on her side and tried to shut out the sounds. Dammit, why are you so... bucking... LOUD! Night guard my flank, I've seen Solar guards more stealthy than you for pity's sake! What the hell are you doing home so early? Did they send you home because you weren't good enough, huh?!
As she tried to find the silence required to fall asleep again, she couldn't help but listen a little longer. She heard mostly hoofsteps, the sound of the vacuum seal of the refrigerator opening and closing, and the distinctive click and pop of either a pop tab opening or a bottle cap coming off. She would have figured that it was soda, but she could not recall seeing any in the fridge when she rummaged through it, just a few six packs of alcohol. She gave an annoyed sigh as she flipped over again, listening as two more bottle caps came off, both within at least five minutes of each other.
She sat up and looked at the bedroom door, raising an eyebrow as the third one resounded through the apartment. He was going through that drink incredibly quickly, and he was no doubt at least a little buzzed from taking in so much so fast. His judgement must be somewhat impaired by now. She stared at the door a little longer, weighing the pros and cons of the many outcomes that could happen if she decided to put a hold on her sleep.
Eve didn't really need to sleep. She had no 'real' day job to go to, and most of her days were spent doing, well, nothing. She could catch up on sleep anytime she wanted, and honestly this was probably going to be the weakest she would catch him right now. Really, she had absolutely nothing to lose right now, and only stood to benefit from this, and maybe the excitement in her night wasn't supposed to end with a successful kill...
She got up out of the bed and wandered over to the door and opened it quietly. There he was, just sitting on the couch, an alcoholic cider in hoof, looking lonely as ever. She gave a sly smile as she walked over to the couch, passing in front of him as she walked to the other side and sat down with a sigh. Eve looked over at Nova and asked, "Home so soon Nova? How was your night?" She then glanced at the remaining three cans of cider, gesturing with her head towards them, "Think I could join you there?"

Well, if it wasn't his 'favorite' roommate. "Ohey." He said. The can's he'd recently finished were about twice as large as a soda can, which was about the same size as a bottle of alcohol would be. "It was a short day today, so I got to come home early, baby face." Heh, baby face. That'd get her for calling him pretty boy. Eve asked if she could join in his drinking, he didn't see any problem with it. "Yeah, s-sure. He said stumbling over the words as he gave her the remainder of his six-pack.
He got up and downed the rest of his current, nearly full drink. He He sighed and dropped the can, then went back to the kitchen, stumbling along the way, only to return with another pack of cider. He plopped back down on the couch and opened another. "Sho... Wha' does a mare liek you doooo.. Anyway? I'm not gon' get in trouble with the guard amai?" His drunken slur was probably barely understandable to Eve.

Eve cocked an eyebrow at the nickname he gave her. Definitely not one of the more creative ones she heard before, but also not exactly one she could really get behind being called. What irked her though, was the question of if he was doing it to get back at her, or for some other reason. "Baby face..." she rolled her eyes and said back to him, just as casually, "Whatever you want, as long as I get to call you pretty boy."
He then slid the last three cans of the six pack over to her, and got up and stumbled towards the kitchen to grab another one. She half expected him to fall down along the way and start giggling like an idiot as he tried to stand back up, but he seemed to be able to hold his drink better than she thought. When he returned, she levitated a beer out of the plastic rings that held the cans together and popped open the tab. She was about to start drinking it, but Nova started to down his previous drink and she couldn't help but watch, drink halfway to her own lips.
When he finally finished, she took a healthy gulp from her own while he asked her... a question? At least she thought it was a question. It took a few seconds for her to piece together the slurring, and when she did, she answered him, "I do odd jobs around town. Sometimes it's guarding somepony, sometimes I'm an escort, sometimes I'm just looking for something lost." She gave a light shrug before she continued, "I don't usually make much, but with some jobs, I make a killing." She grinned as she took another drink from her can, the irony was too much.
She then glanced back at him, giving a sly smile as she tilted her head slightly and said, "Get in trouble with the guard, pretty boy? You ARE the guard. You have the authority to order ponies like me around. Besides, you invited me in here, I think I could keep a few secrets between the two of us." She gave him a wink before she finished the last half of her first can and set it on the table before she grabbed another one and gave another sigh. After a few seconds, she asked him, "So... what does a pretty boy guard pony like yourself usually do this late at night?"

Nova took another gulp of cider. What she had said sounded very much like a come on to the drunken bat-pony. "Oh? I kin' order ya 'round huh?" He took another drink of cider and stared at her suggestively. "I got some orders if'n ya wanna follow 'em" He said, giving Eve a wink. She was attractive, no doubt about that. In his drunken state, he had to admit he wanted a piece of that.
Her next question struck him as a bit odd, mostly because he was drunk. "When'm not at the Trough ah like to train." He said through more slur. "I'm gonna get into the LSF. Just need t' keep trainin'." He finished his fourth cider and opened another. He moved closer to Eve. "There' this thing thata knight taught me. Ah kin' make time slooooww doowwnn. It's crazy!"

Eve returned his stare as she took a gulp of the second can of cider that she had, her eyes wandering slightly as she did. She was not sure if it was the alcohol or her own subconscious, but she kept remembering the stallion stepping out of the bathroom, his coat still damp from his shower. She gave a light and sultry giggle as he mentioned that he had some orders for her to follow and returning her wink. It may have been her lust for more excitement that night, or it may have been something subconscious that the alcohol was only bringing forward, but one thing was for certain; she did not call him pretty boy for nothing.
He mentioned something about a cool trick that makes time slow down as well. Being a unicorn, she knew that this was impossible, as time was a relatively inevitable force. She also knew that one could trick themselves into thinking time had slowed down. She had experienced it before, it was an adrenaline dump. All of the adrenaline would rush to her head, and she would see the world in a slower perspective, processing more information faster than normal. These moments brought her great pleasure, mostly because they occurred at the climax of her nightly hunts, causing the satisfaction that was felt to draw itself out even longer. It was an impressive feat to be able to pull off, especially on command.
She hummed as she listened to Nova finish his rather drunken explanation of the phenomenon. When he was done, she gave him a lazy glance with a half smile as she said in a rather smooth voice, "Sounds like a pretty impressive trick, pretty boy. I have the feeling though..." she leaned a little closer to him, "...that you have a few more tricks that you aren't telling me about." She leaned back and finished the rest of her drink, throwing her head back as she downed it all. When she finished, she set it on the table and said, "Now... abou' those orders ya had fo' me, pretty boy~..."

Nova took another drink of cider, then put it down and pounced. Eve's fur was soft to the touch. Her lips were no different. He pinned her to the couch and went to work. It would be a long night...
(That morning!)
Nova woke to the feeling of his bed sheets sliding across his coat. He opened his eyes and looked over to the window. It was about mid-day he assumed as the rays of light broke through the blinders and curtains. He wasn't sure why, but he felt a familiar ache. And it wasn't just the hangover. He stretched out, his limbs and wings only to flop back to a limp carcass once again.

Eve started to come to from her sleep. She had slept pretty hard, as she was very tired. Her legs were sore, her mouth was sore, she was just sore all over. She opened her eyes and looked out the window. It was already midday, and she slept in. She was nowhere near done resting though, and she was somewhat thankful the blackout curtains were there so that the light didn't wake her up immediately. Giving a heavy sigh, she rolled herself over and immediately brushed against Nova.
Oh right. That happened.
For a long while she just lay there beside him, eyes wide open as she stared at the side of his head. She couldn't quite remember exactly what had happened, it all happened so fast and the alcohol had made everything blur together. There was one thing that she did remember though, and it slightly disturbed her. He had overpowered her so easily, pinning her down as they began what was a long, drawn out night.
This confused Eve on so many different levels. She was always the dominant one, she was always the one making the moves, she was always the one in the position of power. She had remembered trying to struggle to achieve that same power again, but the pegasus was relentless, and she was never successful. This was new territory for her, and it was somewhat intimidating to have all of her power stripped away as though it was nothing. She should have been sneaking back into her apartment and bring her other material love to the bed and have a second round, but she wasn't.
She had enjoyed it too much. This was why she was so hesitant to even do anything right now. She was conflicted. This stallion had just... she could not get past that fact and as a result she just stared dumbfounded for even longer. He finally started to stretch his wings as he woke up. Well... if there was one thing she could do, she could keep up her illusion of the lonely, friendly mare so that she could buy more time to think about at just happened.
Eve shuffled a little closer and nuzzled Nova's shoulder, running a hoof up his chest as she lazily draped it over him. She spoke up in a quiet whisper, not wanting to really disturb the silence, "Good afternoon Nova... how'd you sleep?"

Nova felt Eve's touch, which was wholly unexpected. His head snapped to where she lay beside him. "Wh... What?" He shot up and away from Eve, nearly falling out of the bed. "W-W-What are you doing in my bed?!" Then it all came rushing back to him. It was mostly flashes of memory, but he got the basic, painfully erotic concept of exactly why she was in bed with him. "No! We didn't! Oh Luna!" He hunched over and felt a sharp pain in his back. "Gah!" He yelped as he flinched from the pain.
"What the hell did you do to me?!" He asked, questioning the pain. He should not be aching this much, he knew that for certain. The night must have been acceptionally rough. The thought made him cringe in horror. Then another thought came. "Oh dear Luna, I CHEATED!" He sat there with wide horrified eyes. What if Stardust found out?! What would she do to him?! He couldn't bear to think about it.

Eve watched as Nova scrambled out of bed and away from her, looking somewhat confused. He was freaking out for some reason, and she could not understand why. He hunched over, and flinched as apparently he did something his back didn't agree. His next question was directed directly at her, and before she could open her mouth to answer, he came to his own conclusion. He had cheated on somepony. Eve kept a look of apathy on her face as he sat there with wide and horrified eyes.
Normally this would have been humorous to Eve, but for some reason this was just sad to watch. Shaking her head as she sat up, her own limbs screaming in stiff pain, but she did not make an outburst like he did. She had been hurt worse by other ponies and herself. She looked him in the eye, and in a flat and cold voice, she said, "Stop this, Nova."
Continuing to maintain eye contact and a rather firm voice, she explained, "Your first question, what am I doing in your bed? Simply, you invited me to it. Your second question, what I did to you?" She looked out the window and scowled before looking back at him out of the corner of her eyes, "I did nothing. You led the act, you were dominant the entire time, hell you even made the first move. You are sore for most likely the same reasons I am. You played rough, and I could do nothing to contribute except take the pain." She gave a light smile, but under it she was very bitter, "Saying that I didn't enjoy it however, would be a lie."
She became serious again, "As far as you 'cheating'... Is it really cheating if whoever she is doesn't find out?" She let the question hang in the air for a second and said, "I told you I can keep a secret, and I keep very big secrets. I can keep this a secret. You have my word, Nova... although..." She got up out of the bed and walked towards the bedroom door, "The door is always open. If you wish to keep a few more of these 'secrets' that only you and I know of with me in the future, I won't complain~." She gave him a slight wink before she opened the door to the bedroom and wandered into the kitchen to look at fixing a late breakfast.

Nova couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was the one that started it? "B-But I don't understand! How drunk was I last night?!" He questioned, following Eve out of the bedroom, stumbling on covers that had been knocked loose. He felt a stab in his chest when she... suggested that they do it again?! "No! No way! That was a one time thing that should never have even happened!" His face was red with embarrassment, even through his grey coat it was noticeable.
He stopped just before the kitchen and went to the couch... The couch, where it all started... He flopped onto the couch and groaned. He mumbled half out of fury and half out of fear that his marefriend would find out. And that would just be absolutely horrifying.
