Silent Wit moved through the wide Ponyville streets. He wasn't sure if what he was about to do was a good idea or not. He'd been contacted by somepony who had interest in Wit's skills. Normally, Wit only met with any clients in his apartment, but the offer was good. Not so much any sort of monetary compensation, but a brief explanation that his skills would be put forward for use in observation, not in solving any sort of mystery.

Wit was better with murders and bodies, but so long as the work was interesting, it didn't phase him. He entered a diner, the arranged meeting place. He took a seat at a table in the center, one which had been given a wide berth by the rest of the ponies. Explicit.. He sighed, then focused himself, keeping an eye out for his client.

So this was the detective. Silent Wit...it loathed him to draw the possibly bewitched or traitorous ponies into his plans but he did not know this village as well as he once might have. Things had changed in the past decade, with wars and gods all taking their day in the spotlight, and all of it centralised around this town. Ponyville...

Sliding from a nearby table, the clack of his sword sheaths against each other drawing a few uneasy glances as he approached, he sat opposite Wit, his hat casting a slight shadow across his eyes. It was not his intent to be intimidating, but the diner's lighting was hardly opportune. "I am Remise." He started simply, focusing on Wit and not casting his gaze about as to not seem paranoid. "And I assume you are Silent Wit, yes?"

"Yes.. I figured it'd be you, though I was kind of hoping it would be otherwise. I already know more than my fair share of overtly interesting people, who are only too good at drawing attention to themselves. Your hat is fulfilling that duty quite well." A waiter came over, placing a glass of water and a menu for them both.

"You said you required my services. What for? I should state up front that I like to keep my business legal, otherwise I have to deal with law enforcement, who are infinitely inferior in intelligence to most criminals I find. I don't want to deal with that."

"Protection is far more important than subtlety. I like ponies to know what it is I do." he frowned a little, adjusting his brim. "For most often my issue is not with ponies. In this case, I believe that I am within the law, and I have already clarified as such. No persecution will come from what I may hunt as long as it is not a pony." He lifted the water and sipped it, rather at ease. "I require the eyes and ears of one who is familiar with this town and its residents. I have heard rumors, you see, changelings and ursas...However, what I hunt today is something unique. I fear a Lycan may reside in this town." His eyes were entirely serious, despite the somewhat unusual claim.

Wit kept quiet as he considered what he was told, until the waiter came by. "Daisy sandwich, hay fries." After that he let Remise order and then spoke. "I believe you.. Do you need me to detail the ponies of this town for you, or to watch out for certain signs signaling of this lycan. Either way, when do we start?" He was very interested. He'd never 'hunted' lycan before.. then again, he'd never really 'hunted' at all, except for murderers, if it could be called that.

"The same" he said simply, turning gaze to the waiter for only a moment. As soon as they were once more alone, he spoke. "There are many ways to drive a lycan out, and many ways to detect one. Heightened reliance on smell, sound. Dishevelled appearance. Mysterious activity around the full moon." He grimaced at the third one. "Which, I believe, is only an odd week away."

"We can start as soon as you are able, Silent Wit. We must work to flush this creature out by any mean." He brought his hooves together in deep thought. "We can either take an active approach...subtle scents and vicious noise to detect what cannot otherwise be seen. Or, we can take the route of espionage. Figure out where this creature masquerades without alerting it to our knowledge." His eyes flicked up to stare at Wit. "Your thoughts?"

"Direct confrontations aren't really my specialty. I think your suggested 'espionage' would work best, but I think the word is a bit strong for it. I appreciate the subtlety behind it, though." The food arrived, and Wit waited for the server to leave before starting again. "In addition to the information you've already given me, I'm going to need every thing you know about lycans and any sort of signs they give that might reveal themselves."

Wit tried to think of anyone in the town who exhibited such tendencies, but for the moment nothing came to mind. "I'll be ready to begin after I think over what you give me."

"Neither method is truly direct, if we revealed ourselves it would be unlikely the lycan would ever show again. However, espionage you say, espionage it shall be." He shifted slightly, tipping his hat back a touch. "There is only one way we can truly identify a lycan. The full moon. They do not hunt within the bounds of Ponyville, that much I know, so if they exist here they must be leaving the town in order to hide their affliction." He grimaced. "We need a way of monitoring who leaves the town, but I do not know if we can alone."

"I know some ponies here. They will be willing to help when I contact them and explain the situation. Getting enough eyes to watch for a lycan escaping into the Everfree shouldn't be too hard." He spent a little time on his food. Wit would have to contact Glaive, if nopony else. He was adept at covering ground quickly, and eyes in the sky would be advantageous as well.

"When this lycan is located, what will need to happen next?"

Remise nodded contemplatively. "Hopefully they do not have accomplices that can assist in this matter; otherwise it may complicate things. I do not wish to believe that anyone would willingly assist a lycan but my beliefs have been challenged greatly of late." Sighing, he sat back, considering Wit's next question. As he answered, his hoof moved to rest on the silver pommel of one of his blades. "When we identify the lycan, your service is done. What comes next is business only for myself." He said darkly, thinking back on previous events.

"I see. I understand, and I think I'd prefer if you took care of it yourself." Wit mulled the information he had been given over as he ate. Before he finished the meal he spoke again. "I think I'll begin now. I know of at least one pony I can contact immediately. When we are ready to begin the period of observation, how will I be able to contact you. Or will you meet me some time before the full moon?"

"I've got a room at the Sorehoof motel, it's near that bakery that looks like frosting. You can meet me there. I'd like it if we avoid each other until the night of the full moon, to avoid suspicion. Oh, and Wit? If you can, only tell those ponies with as few as possible close friends or family. Connections run deep in this town and it's almost renowned for gossip. We don't want to flush the prey before we can catch it, or worse, protecting the beast." He frowned, and slipped from his seat. "I appreciate your assistance. We will be lucky if we can stop the creature before it gets the chance to turn its hunger to ponykind."

"I understand. The pony I'm going to used to secrets so he shouldn't be a problem. I'm also certain he will see the threat a marewolf poses to this town, and more importantly to him, his family." Wit laid down a few bits and stood, "I'll go speak with him now, I think. I'll be sure to find you once we're ready. I don't expect it to take long."

With that, Wit made an exit and made his way further into town, in search of the flower shop.
