Twilight swam after Misty as she went towards the bank of the lake, pulling herself onto the side of it and taking a seat next to her marefriend. She then wrapped her leg around Misty's and leaned her head against her shoulder. As happy as Twilight was that Misty was going to share her history with her, she couldn't help but feel like this was going to be a lot of information, and not a whole lot of it was going to be particularly happy. She was ready for anything though, and more importantly than her being ready to hear about everything that Misty had done, she was ready to comfort her if she needed it.

It started out right where Twilight thought it would. It seemed like Misty had been through a lot right off the bat, being in a relationship that was sort of based on pity was no way to build anything lasting. Though it seemed that she had learned a valuable lesson from it at the end of the day even though that didn't necessarily make it any less sad. The next one seemed like it was going so well, but apparently some ponies hadn't been living with Pinkie Pie for a good portion of their lives. Compared to her bubbly pink friend, Misty was pretty tame so there was no chance that Twilight was ever going to get annoyed with her, at least not to the point of wanting to break up with her.

The next one seemed like she was really nice, but there was a big difference between Twilight and her. Twilight had already fulfilled a lot of her fantasies and done just about everything that had been described in so many novels and movies. Maybe she hadn't experienced most of the romance, but she had already made history five times over. Normality was actually welcome after so much excitement in her life, though she wouldn't find if she got to have a few more of her dreams come true. The next one, well, that was a rather unfortunate story, she couldn't stand ponies who manipulated others just because of their looks or their money or anything like that. Twilight didn't really need Misty to finish that statement about her first time, Twilight might have been a little bit ignorant about relationships, but she understood what that meant. She couldn't help but feel bad for her marefriend after it was revealed that she had given herself to a mare that didn't really love her. Twilight wanted nothing more than to show Misty how much she meant to her, but Misty wasn't done with her story yet.

Then she got back together with the first mare she dated, and Twilight was hoping for nothing more than a semi-happy ending, maybe a mutual break up or something like that. Sadly, she wasn't greeted with that. Twilight could feel tears welling up in her eyes, this was such a sad story and all of it culminated in Misty meeting her. It was hard to believe that so much tragedy could bring Misty to her, but she was happy that it had.

"Thank you for telling me all that, sweety," Twilight said as she turned her head up and kissed Misty on the cheek before rotating herself so that she was sitting on top of Misty, straddling her waist. She then placed one of her hooves on her shoulder, and the other one one cradling her face, "I just want you to know this much," Twilight said as she pulled Misty into a hug, "As long as you're with me, you will never have to worry about being alone again."

She pulled away from the hug, "You're my very first marefriend and everything that I've done with you has been absolutely amazing. I look into your eyes and I can see amazing things, I see a mare that has been through so much and yet she can still wear a smile on her face. I see a mare who's strong, a lot stronger than she thinks she is. I see a mare who has a drive to do good, to be the best that she could be in any given situation. I see a mare that I want to keep seeing for the rest of my life," Twilight said as a tear started to well up in her eye, not one of sadness, but one of joy. She was so happy that Misty was here with her, that she was able to experience all of these things with her, "And that's not the kiss talking, or how damn sexy you look right now, that's from the heart."

Twilight then pulled Misty towards her and placed her lips on hers, pulling her closer and closer until she was almost squeezing her. This was a real moment that they were having, one that wasn't brought on by any sort of lust or wanting to fulfill some sort of fantasy. This was a moment that felt more like comfort than romance, made her feel more like she was at home than like she was experiencing something foreign. This moment was beautiful, just as beautiful as the mare whose lips were pressed to her own. She wasn't sure how long they were kissing for, but Twilight finally pulled away, not able to say anything, a kind smile spread across her face.

Despite having told Twilight all of her experiences that led up to this point, Misty didn't feel all that great after having done so. She felt disappointed, like she wasn't quite worth as much as she thought she was before. She really hadn't thought about how much bad luck she'd had in the relationship department--she just took it all as it came to her, always hoping that the next would be better than the previous.

Her attention was brought back to Twilight when the mare leaned over, planting another kiss on Misty's cheek... before continuing to move so she could sit in Misty's lap and straddle her waist. She felt her cheeks heat up with the position, having completely unexpected it. She watched Twilight from this position, unable to do anything but stare into her eyes as Twilight placed a hoof on her cheek and pulled her into a hug. Misty returned what of the hug she could as Twilight told her she'd never have to worry about being alone again as long as she was with Twilight. Misty really wanted to believe that--and she sincerely hoped it was true--but was it? She enjoyed being around Twilight so far, but she'd enjoyed all of her relationships right off of the bat...

Twilight pulled away from the hug shortly after that and Misty could only look into Twilight's eyes again as the mare ensured Misty's attention could be only on her. She began to talk in a quiet, reassuring voice, talking about how everything she'd done with Misty so far was amazing, that she looked into Misty's eyes and saw a mare of various strengths, even going so far as to say she wanted to keep seeing Misty for the rest of her life. That was a pretty long time, not to mention the fact that they'd only known each other a relatively short period of time... Still, she didn't want to risk Twilight's happiness by ruining the moment with a fact like that, and Misty's constant fear of loneliness was on the line as well.

Yet another blush came to Misty's cheeks when Twilight continued after that, saying how it wasn't the kiss talking or how sexy Misty looked. She didn't know if she was that hot, despite the one relationship where her body had been used, but Twilight sure seemed to think so. Was she really Twilight's type, or was she just settling...? She wasn't exactly given much time to contemplate that as soon after, Twilight pulled Misty to her and locked lips with her again, this time wrapping her hooves around Misty to accompany it with a tight embrace.

Melting under the gesture, Misty slowly wrapped her hooves around Twilight as well, completely at ease as their kiss took off. It had been sudden, but it felt... right. It was perfectly timed, and for a moment Misty lost all of her worries as she focused on the kiss, instead of everything she had laid out to Twilight. There weren't even any kinds of undertones to the kiss: it was natural and completely genuine. As such, it didn't leave Misty with the feeling of wanting more when the kiss was finally broken; instead, it left her with a feeling of happy satisfaction, that maybe things could finally start looking up for her, and she could really turn her life around with Twilight's help.

An easy smile spread across Misty's face alongside Twilight's and for the first few moments after the kiss, she didn't say anything. She just stared. She searched Twilight's purple eyes for a few good moments before leaning forward, hugging the mare tightly as she settled her head on Twilight's shoulder with her horn above Twilight's arm and the rest of her face turned down and pressed into the mare she held. "Thank you, Twilight," she murmured quietly, not needing to speak very loud thanks to their proximity despite the nearby waterfall. "I... I guess I did kinda need to talk about that sometime, huh? I mean, I did cry on my mom's shoulder a lot, but I never really... got things off my chest. None of the other marefriends I had never really asked about this, much less seemed to care all that much. And... all those things you said... I'm glad you see me like that. I'm glad you really care." Misty gave yet another squeeze to Twilight before pulling her head away from Twilight's shoulder so she could look the mare in the eyes again.

"So, how come you're not with Princess Celestia right now? How come you've got your own tree in Ponyville? Seems to me like being a royal student deserves a lot more than what you've got there in Ponyville..."

Twilight returned Misty's hug, running her hooves through her marefriend's mane and trying her best to comfort her. It must have been hard for her to tell Twilight all of those things, to be able to confess all of the horrible things that had happened to her in the past, but Twilight was still overjoyed that she had told her. She felt like that was the first thing that Misty would need to get behind her if she was ever going to start to understand that Twilight's feelings, the things she had told her, were absolutely genuine. Hopefully Misty would have feelings that were just as strong, if not stronger, but for now, Twilight would just have to wait. After all, they had only known each other a few days, and while Twilight was pretty quick to get attached to other ponies nowadays, she also knew that she couldn't force those feelings on anyone else. She had to wait for Misty to develop those feelings at her own pace for the sake of the relationship.

She pulled away slightly as the hug was released so that she could look Misty in the eyes again. She really was beautiful, and Twilight couldn't be happier to have found someone like her, "Well, I guess I should really start from the beginning," Twilight said as she thought back to those first days in Ponyville, "I was sent her by the Princess to oversee the preparation of the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration which was taking place in Ponyville that year. Well, that was one of my objectives at least," Twilight said as she blushed slightly and rolled off of Misty before sliding back into the water again and standing on the rocks at the bottom near the shore.

This was going to be something that would be kind of hard to admit, but Misty had given Twilight her whole past and Twilight couldn't keep these kind of things from her. She sighed and then looked up at Misty, "My other objective was to make some friends. You see, before I came to Ponyville I didn't really have much of a social life. I spent a vast majority of my time glued to the pages of one book or another just studying my days away so that I could be the best I could be. The only beings I ever really interacted with were Princess Celestia and my baby Dragon assistant, Spike. You probably won't ever get to meet him," Twilight said as she turned to the south and stared off into the distance, "He grew up and went off to be with his own kind."

Twilight could feel tears welling up in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away as she turned back to Misty, "So, with my fair share of protest, I ended up making a lot of friends here. One of these days I'll introduce you to them, they're all amazing ponies and I'm sure they'd be happy to meet you. That's beside the point though, because, during the Summer Sun Celebration, Nightmare Moon returned from her thousand year imprisonment on the moon. The only way to stop her was to use the Elements of Harmony, just like in the legends and the fairy tales, and that's what I ended up doing with the help of those ponies I met that day. So, me and my six friends ended up saving the world from Nightmare Moon and restoring Princess Luna to her true self."

Twilight paused for a moment to gauge Misty's reaction, "Please don't freak out or anything," She said as she waded over to Misty, placing a hoof on her leg, "Please please please please please don't freak out. I know it's a lot to take in, but please don't freak out, at least not too bad," Twilight said a she took a deep breath and looked into Misty's eyes, "At the end of the day, I liked staying in Ponyville too much to want to leave. The ponies here are all awesome and I've got the best friend an egghead like me could ask for. So, the Princess decided that she would continue to pay for my room and board as long as I sent her reports on what I've learned about the Magic of Friendship. I know it sounds kind of cheesy, but trust me, that's exactly what she said. So, that's why I'm living in Ponyville, I probably could have eased you into that better, but I thought I might as well get it all out of the way as soon as possible," Twilight said with a nervous smile, not sure if she wanted to see the reaction that Misty would have to what she just said.

Twilight's being away from Celestia apparently had to do with the princess herself. She really should have guessed as much; Misty doubted anypony would really want to be away from somepony as amazing as that if they had relations to her like Twilight did. Misty was a little disappointed when Twilight then removed herself from her place on Misty's lap, feeling a bit strange without the feeling of Twilight's legs clamped against her to keep her settled in that position.

Twilight continued when she'd chosen her new spot, seeming a little reluctant to go on. She talked about how on top of overseeing the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration, she'd also been sent to make friends. Apparently, she was a stereotypical bookworm in that she cared more for books and studying than she did for friendships. Misty smiled a bit at that, easily able to see the mare in that light. Her smile didn't last very long however; when Twilight mentioned that she used to have an assistant, a baby dragon, the smile was replaced with a look of surprise. On top of everything else amazing Twilight had told her about, she also used to take care of a baby dragon? He may no longer have been with Twilight, but that didn't change the fact that she used to interact with a baby dragon on a constant basis...

From there, things just continued to get more shocking. Twilight talked about how during that Summer Sun Celebration, Nightmare Moon returned from her imprisonment on the moon. Misty remembered that; she'd only read about it in the papers, but it was also where the Elements of Harmony returned and... and apparently Twilight was one of the Elements. With the color now drained out of her face she stared at Twilight, not even sure of what to think about that. One of the most popular ponies in recent Equestria history... Misty was dating. Everything about her just seemed to get more and more amazing the more Misty learned about her, and she quickly began to feel like her obvious lack of interesting things in her life would be inadequate for the mare whose life seemed to be full of those kinds of things.

At this point, Misty was just staring down at the water that she sat in, staring down at the rocks and dirt below her. Why did she deserve somepony like Twilight, somepony so famous and amazing, while she had literally nothing but a courier job going for her? She'd been enjoying her time around Twilight and had been enjoying Twilight as a pony... but she was so much better than Misty in almost every way. Better life, better with magic, better with friends apparently, better looking... No matter how she looked at it, Twilight now seemed so out of her league, which only just made her feel guilty since Twilight was asking her not to freak out.

"Twilight, I... don't... I mean, you're..." Misty sighed daring to glance over to the mare before shying her gaze away once more as she attempted to compose herself at least enough to speak. "That's all so... so extraordinary. I mean, you've got all of that going for you: you're one of the Elements, one of the astounding ponies I've only heard about in the news, you're a student to the princess herself, you're even saying you've helped raise a baby dragon. A baby dragon, Twilight. How many ponies are out there that can say they've done that? I know I can't. I haven't gotten anything awe-inspiring like that in my life. I don't compare in any way, and yet... yet you're here, with me, when you can probably get any pony you wanted."

Misty slowly began rubbing one of her legs with the other as she paused for another brief moment. "I mean, don't get me wrong... I still believe you when you told me that you've been enjoying yourself around me and everything--and I have been too--but... I'm so boring next to you. As an Element, you've bested both Nightmare Moon and Discord, and I've only heard rumors about what happened in the Crystal Kingdom with you girls. And here, I've only delivered letters and packages. There's no way I can look at it and justify... well, deserving a pony like you. I still believe you want to be with me... but... I just... can't help but think you'd be better off with somepony else, somepony more..." Misty sighed again with a shake of her head and allowed her sentence to fall short--she'd repeated herself enough already, she had no doubt Twilight could pick up on what she was saying.

Twilight swam over to Misty, a concerned look on her face. This relationship wasn't going to work if Misty kept feeling like she was less than Twilight, that she was just there because Twilight was desperate or something like that. She pulled herself up onto the bank after Misty was finished talking and wrapped one of her hooves around her marefriend's shoulders and pulled her tight. There must be something that could make Misty get some sense of equality in the relationship, but she already felt so down about herself that Twilight wasn't sure if there was anything that she could say that could accomplish that right now, but this was her Marefriend, and she had to try.

Twilight took a deep breath and looked out over the lake towards the waterfall, "Misty," she said softly so that she was forcing Misty to listen very carefully to all of her words so that she could properly hear them over the waterfall, "You're probably right, I could date anyone in the world if I wanted to. I could probably approach the prince of Saddle Arabia and ask him to take me out to a nice dinner and he would probably do so without hesitation. I could seek out any member of the nobility and they would probably ask for my hoof in marriage the second that I said that I would be willing to wed them. I could do any of those things with any of those ponies, and yet I didn't, and I never ever will.

"I've done so much with my life, gone on so many adventures and even saved the world a couple of times that I haven't actually had the time to live a normal life. I've seen so many things and met so many ponies that I've started to lose track of it all, and yet life still goes on around me. I kept getting older and I started to realize that if I kept living the way that I had been that I might never get the opportunity to settle down. So that's what I've been doing, I've been trying my best to settle down here in Ponyville. I stopped worrying about the Friendship Reports that I send to the Princess, I actually opened the Ponyville Library to the general public, and I started working on some things that really matter to me, things that I could put my knowledge to use in.

"I've gone on so many adventures, and yet I've never really gotten the chance to slow down. I've never gotten the chance to meet someone that I like and go out with them and get to know them more and more until I could say that I know them better than I know myself. I've never gotten the chance to go out of my way to go out on dates and meet someone that I might want to settle down with someday," Twilight said as she looked down at Misty, tears starting to well up in her eyes, "I've never gotten the chance to find someone that I could fall in love with, and isn't that the greatest adventure of all?"

Almost reluctantly, Misty glanced up to Twilight when she quietly said her name. She knew Twilight had something to say about Misty's worries--that much was a given. But was it what Misty would need to hear? Was it what would help her believe she was good enough for Twilight? She couldn't say; all she could do was just listen to Twilight as she spoke, her gaze held down to the water below.

It didn't start out with what she needed to hear. Twilight said she was right, that she could date anyone she wanted--maybe even marry royalty if she said she had the interest, which just made Misty feel worse. There was the fact that Twilight could get somepony worth something, instead of her. Misty felt like she was robbing Twilight from that chance by being with her. The fact that Twilight could have but didn't hadn't even occurred to Misty... at least not until Twilight said something about it.

If she could and hadn't so far... why not? She was somepony special that deserved something special. The reason, apparently, was because she didn't want that. She wanted a life of relative simplicity, wanted to settle down and enjoy the finer things instead of constantly being caught up in adventure. That alone caused Misty to hesitate once more--if that was truly the case, maybe she could still be with Twilight anyway? She was certainly normal and adventures never seemed to find her, so maybe she could really be what Twilight had been looking for so long... and maybe Twilight could be the same for her.

So at the end of Twilight's speech, a little smile broke through on Misty's face and she glanced up to Twilight, searching the mare's eyes for a moment before looking back down to the water and responding with, "I don't know either, Twilight. I can't really say I 'loved' any of the mares I was with in the past, so I'm pretty much just as inexperienced on the subject as you are. I might have loved being around them, but... something always happened before things got to that point." She sighed quietly then and began to rub one of her legs with the other as she looked up to Twilight again. "And... as long as you're not looking for somepony exciting and who can say they've been through as many amazing things as you have, then I think I can... I think I'll be able to deal with it. It's still gonna be a little hard--I mean, really, you're one of the Elements and the princess knows you--but... as long as I know my being normal is fine with you, then I won't really question if you'd be better off elsewhere."

Misty then brought her hoof up and gently swept any tears that may have remained out of Twilight's eyes before reaching both hooves forward and embracing the mare tightly once more, this time without a kiss. She stayed like that for a few good seconds before pulling away, offering a slightly wider smile to Twilight. "Though really, since you've done so much in your life, I can only wonder what secrets you're hiding~," she said teasingly with a giggle. "So tell me, what are your friends like, Twilight? The other Elements? Like I said, I've only heard rumors about all six of you..."

Twilight smiled after Misty wiped the tears away from her eyes and pulled her into a hug. She wrapped her legs around Misty and pulled her close, "Well I don't really have too many more secrets," Twilight said in a teasing manner, "But I think I'll save them for another day. None of them are really anything that big, but I don't want to tell you everything about me on the second date that would kind of ruin the fun of discovery wouldn't it?"

Twilight giggled as she pulled away from the hug, "The other Elements are all really awesome ponies," she said as she looked up towards the sky, "I guess I could just start talking about them in the order that I met them. The Element of Laughter, Pinkie Pie, is actually a lot like you only even more over the top. She's all smiles and jokes and trying to brighten the mood of everyone around her all the time, spending more time each day making sure everyone else is happy before she worries about her own happiness. I guess that's mainly because she's only happy when others are happy, but that's beside the point. She loves parties, baking, sweets, and just about anything you can think of that would bring a smile to your face.

"Next is Applejack, the Element of Honesty. She works over at Sweet Apple Acres with the rest of her family and she's probably one of the hardest workers I've ever met in my entire life. She puts family before everything else, she's competitive, and she's business oriented. She doesn't really mind getting dirty if she has to and doesn't really care about fashion in the slightest. She's also got this really heavy accent that's kind of hard to understand at first, but you get used to it after awhile," Twilight said with a chuckle.

"Then there's Rainbow Dash, Element of Loyalty and the self proclaimed fastest flier in Equestria. She might actually be the fastest flier, but I haven't had the chance to do any speed tests so there isn't any concrete evidence of it, but that doesn't really matter. She's hyper competitive and has one of the biggest egos I've ever seen, but she kind of deserves to be that way. She's a great athlete and she's done some pretty amazing things in her lifetime so I forgive her for being the way she is, even if it is kind of obnoxious at times.

"After that is Rarity, the Element of Generosity. I'm gonna get this out of the way right now," Twilight said as she turned towards Misty, "Rarity is kind of a snob, she hates getting dirty, she loves fashion a bit too much, and she acts like she's royalty. However, she's also used her talent for design to help me and my other friends out more times than I can count, and she's never asked for payment. Once you get to know her she's one of the nicest ponies out there, and she's absolutely gorgeous.

"And last, but not least, is Fluttershy, the Element of Kindness. Fluttershy loves animals and takes care of them out in this little cabin that she lives in out near the Everfree Forest. She's also super timid and kind of scared of just about everything, but at the same time she's one of the bravest ponies I've ever seen when she needs to be."

Twilight then looked back up at the sky again, "But don't let what I tell you about them be how you form your opinion about them, I'm sure you're going to get the chance to meet them one of these days. So," Twilight said as she turned back to Misty, intertwining her leg with Misty's, "Why don't you tell me about the ponies you're staying with. I want to know about the ponies that are allowing my marefriend to stay so close to me."

Misty giggled again when Twilight teased Misty back, saying she didn't have many more secrets but that she'd save them for another day. She wasn't really sure if the mare was being truthful or not, but she had a good point so she'd wait for Twilight to share whatever she had yet to share with her on her own time. What she'd already told Misty had been plenty for her to swallow; no real need to add to that...

Then, Twilight began talking about her friends. Misty attentatively sat up right, her gaze locked right onto her marefriend as she listened to her talk despite the fact that she was now looking up to the sky. It was everything she could do to show Twilight that she had Misty's attention fully--no doubt concentrating most of her efforts into not allowing her mind wander while somepony important to her spoke.

She started off with somepony named... Pinkie Pie. Misty was almost sure she'd heard that name somewhere before, but... She couldn't remember where. She assumed it was maybe because somepony like that would be something of a celebrity in Ponyville, so maybe that was why? But the mare Twilight described sounded like loads of fun, what with the smiles and jokes and stuff and her trying to make everypony happy. She sounded like somepony she could really get along with, so Misty definitely looked forward to meeting her.

Then came Applejack? Who worked at... Sweet Apple Acres. So Twilight was friends with the pony who ran Sweet Apple Acres, the most famous apple farm anywhere? She shouldn't really be that surprised, should she? Twilight was a pony who seemed like she had a lot of connections... It didn't seem like Misty would have quite as much fun with Applejack as she would with Pinkie Pie, though. Her dad was the only hard worker she needed in her life...

Next was 'Rainbow Dash'. That was another name she could've sworn she'd heard before during one of her stays in Ponyville. The fact that she was the self-proclaimed fastest flier in Equestria could have helped with that fact; perhaps she'd heard the name from the mare herself, or just from one of the ponies who no doubt idolized somepony like that? Misty wasn't really sure what to think about Rainbow Dash, but she hadn't met the mare yet, so maybe she'd just have to wait and see for herself.

After that was Rarity. Misty immediately perked up after hearing the mare's name, having recognized her the moment Twilight mentioned her. She had been to Rarity's Boutique before, to get something for one of her nieces... It was hard to believe that very same mare was one of the Elements, as well as her marefriend's friend. Now that she knew what Rarity was the Element of, what she'd done for her back when she visited the Boutique made much, much more sense.

Finally came a pony named Fluttershy who had the briefest description of them all. Twilight mentioned how she loved animals and how she was extremely timid... while being brave when she needed to be. Misty was entirely confused by what Twilight said there--how could somepony be timid and brave? It just didn't make any sense... but again, maybe it was just something she'd have to see for herself?

Twilight pretty much asked her to do exactly that after she finished describing her friends, asking her not to let what she said be how she formed her opinions about them. She nodded slightly at her marefriend's request, even grinning a little bit as she wrapped her leg around Misty's. She gently leaned back against Twilight, savoring the moment before responding to her curiosity about Misty's family.

"Well right now, I'm staying with my brother Lightning Zephyr and his wife, Patches Zephyr, as well as their two awesome lil' fillies Rose Bramble and Honey Dew. My bro, Z, is a little quiet, but he can be super cheesy sometimes, and he's such a geek, especially when he tries to be funny. He takes after my father in a lot of those regards, really. Not to mention the fact that Z's also a blacksmith. Hard to imagine a pegasus blacksmithing, but he totally pulls it off. He doesn't really like to make weapons either, despite the fact that that's how he got his cutie mark... He's really a strange pony all around, but I still love him.

"Then there's Patches--or Peaches as Z likes to call her. Those two are like, so incredibly inseparable it's a little mind boggling. They're always on the same wavelength, they complement each other so well, and... well, I'm just envious of their relationship in general! And partly because I didn't really have a hoof in how they met. I always envisioned I'd totally be the one who got the colt who kept to himself somepony to love, but I guess when your bro's gone for years, that's a lil' hard to do.

"Anyway, Patches! She's also super quiet. It's a running theme in the family, really. My dad, my brother, my sister-in-law, one of my nieces... Really strange, considering I'm not at all like that, but hey, that's just how it is. She's also sooo mysterious. Like, I always keep trying to ask her about certain things, but she only ever gives me a smile and a vague answer before moving on to something else. I think she likes teasing ponies about that stuff, but I'm never really sure. She's also a tailor-pone, has to wear a hat whenever she goes outside, and has these really weird candles she says help her see in her house.

"Umm.. Next is Honey Dew. Or, Honbun as I like to call her. She's the quiet niece I told you about. I'm still not sure why, but she never likes to show emotion on her face, even though her smile is extremely pretty. It could melt the hearts of so many colts~. But, she just doesn't show it. She's really good at playing her violin though--she got her cutie mark for it, after all--and I always love listening to her play. She's so good for only being twelve, and I can't wait to see where she goes in life. Did you know she's already gotten lessons from a famous musician named 'Octavia'?!

"And finally, my other niece Rose Bramble, who I like to call Rosykins. She's so much fun to be around 'cause she's, like, really hyperactive and stuff--kinda like me actually. But she can sing sooo beautifully, and she's pretty fun to tease. I never really see her fly much though, even though she's a pegasus. Unlike Z, her wings are strong enough to keep her in the air... I guess she just likes being around her family that much? I dunno, I've never really asked about that--maybe I should." Misty hummed quietly in thought at that for but a moment before glancing over to Twilight.

"I think we've just about spent enough time here at the lake, don't you Twilight? It's really pretty, and the water's nice, and it's a good spot, but we should start heading back home before it gets dark out and we can't find our way back home. Though I do have to say cuddling with you underneath the stars does sound a little appealing~," she said with a giggle as she stood up and stepped away from the lake.

After she went back to her bandana and ear studs and replaced them in their respective places she turned back to Twilight, offering her usual bright smile to the mare. "I'm ready when you are, sweetie~. Just lead the way. Anyway, what about your family? Your parents have gotta be something pretty special to have given birth to somepony who's so pretty, and smart, and good at magic."

Twilight listened as Misty described the ponies that she would be staying with while she was in Ponyville. It seemed like they were a pretty interesting group, an odd mix of serious and silly, quiet and loud, and all of them seemed extremely talented. It must have been a very interesting place to live in considering the mixture of ponies that stayed there. The one that caught her ear the most was Honey Dew, getting lessons from an esteemed musician like Octavia wasn't easy, she was essentially the Princess Celestia of the Classical music scene in Equestria. At least, that's the pedestal that some ponies liked to put her on, but Twilight just assumed that those ponies had never gotten the chance to actually speak with the Princesses. Once a pony experiences being in their presence, it's kind of hard to compare anyone else to them.

The only other thing that she found strange was that these ponies had managed to live in Ponyville for so long and yet she had never actually met any of them. One would think that Twilight would have met everyone in Ponyville after living there for so long, but it seemed that there were still ponies out there that she had managed to skip over. She felt kind of bad for not knowing Misty's family already, but she was sure that she would get the chance to meet them all one of these days.

Twilight giggled at Misty's comment about cuddling under the stars as she stood up and started walking behind Misty, shaking herself to get some of the water off of her, "I'm sure we'll get the chance to cuddle under the stars one of these days," she said as she caught up with her Marefriend and matched her pace, "Though we'll have to be better prepared for it when it actually happens. I'm thinking candles, a nice blanket, maybe a nice salad with a red wine vinaigrette preferably with almonds, cherry tomatoes, spinach, maybe some celery, and of course some Swiss cheese."

Twilight's mouth started to water as she described the meal that they would have with their picnic under the stars. She shook her head to try and disperse the thoughts before turning back to Misty just in time to hear her question. Sadly, it seemed like this wasn't a question that she thought Misty would be able to handle at this point, especially after learning that she was an Element of Harmony. She couldn't tell her about her brother or Cadence, but she could probably tell her about her parents without getting some sort of overreaction.

Twilight then took a deep breath, "Well first there's my Dad, Nightlight, he's the Master of Coin in Canterlot. Right now he's only handling the money for Canterlot as opposed to the whole country, but he's been trying to convince Celestia to take him on as the Royal Master of Coin for years now. He's determined that he's going to get the job one of these days, but it probably isn't going to be anytime soon with this war going on. He's also pretty stubborn and doesn't really like to take any sort of advice, but I forgive him for that stuff because he's my Dad and I kind of have to. Other than that, he's an amazing father, always has my back with whatever I try to do and supported me one hundred percent of the way when I was training for my interview to get into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. Most of the time he's pretty soft spoken though, only really talking when he's thought about what he's going to say next for a little bit."

"My Mom's name is Twilight Velvet, she pretty much the one I got all my looks from. Seriously, I'll show you a picture of her one of these days, she looks just like me except she's all white and purple. She's also a really talented author, I would tell her what she's written, but I don't think that she would really appreciate that much. You see, she always signs off as an anonymous author, but ponies keep buying her books over and over again because they're pretty much all instant classics."

Twilight was so happy that her mother had always been that one author in every generation that signed off as Anonymous. She really didn't want to admit that she had written seven books in the Daring Do series as well as a few other fairly well known adventure books based around a strong female protagonist. She was glad that her mother had actually helped her dodge that potential freak out, "She's also super nice and supportive and spent a lot more time with me when I was young than Dad did since her job had really flexible hours. Though she couldn't always be there, she often took trips out to the country alone when she felt like she needed an environment with no distractions to do her best writing. I always missed her when she left, but she left me with just about the best foalsitter ever."

Twilight was about to open her mouth and reveal that her foalsitter was Cadence, but she caught herself right before she could reveal it. There wasn't anything else she felt comfortable telling Misty at the moment, but at the same time she didn't want to lie to her about anything. Twilight then took another deep breath before speaking up again, "I've also got an older brother who's a member of the Royal Guard. We don't really talk about him too much considering my parents don't really like what he ended up doing with his life, but he is always super nice and awesome whenever I get a chance to see him."

"I guess that's it," Twilight said as she looked ahead and noticed that they had managed to make it almost all the way back to the Library, the large tree visible about fifty yards away, "And just look at that timing," she said with a giggle before turning towards Misty and giving her a hug and a quick kiss on the lips goodbye, "I had a really great time today," she said, not releasing the hug just yet, "And we definitely shouldn't wait so long before the next time we see each other, deal?" she said with a wink as she released the hug.

Just as attentatively as before, Misty kept her gaze locked onto Twilight as she walked beside the mare, gladly listening to what she had to say about her family. It wasn't any real surprise that her father was someone in a position like 'Master of Coin in Canterlot'. Considering everything else about Twilight, she would've actually been a little disappointed had it been anything different. It was something she'd come to expect with her marefriend, that everypony she was close to was something special. It sounded like her dad was a pretty cool pony all around though--even his stubborness; she could relate with how her mother could be sometimes.

Twilight continued on about her own mother, mentioning how she was the one where she got her looks from. Once again, Misty could relate almost exactly to that fact: she shared her own number of traits with her, so she could see where Twilight was coming from. She also spoke about how Twilight--Twilight's mom--wow that was going to get confusing in the future--was nice and supportive, making Misty really want to meet her. There was just something great about nice and supportive ponies and making friends with them. Maybe in good time though; it was way too soon to think about meeting the other's parents. It almost seemed as if Twilight wanted to say something else after talking about her mother, but she looked as if she was hesitating in doing so. That, or she was just thinking about what to say next.

Misty's ears perked up when Twilight began talking about her brother, interested in hearing what kind of sibling she had to grow up with... but was a little disappointed by the description she gave. He was a member of the Royal Guard--of course, what else could it be for a member of Twilight's family?--but she talked about how her parents apparently didn't like what he ended up doing with his life... Making her wonder just what that could have been. Twilight didn't seem all that bitter about whatever had happened, so what was the deal?

She hadn't even realized it, but at about this time they'd gotten back to Ponyville, and had even found their way back to Twilight's treehouse. It was a little surprising, and for a moment Misty wondered if she had a moment of brief amnesia or something. Her internal musing was cut short as Twilight gave her a hug and a kiss on the lips, causing her to focus her attention elsewhere with a tight-lipped smirk as she returned Twilight's hug. "I can definitely agree with that, babe~," Misty said playfully when the hug was broken, offering her marefriend a wink as well. "We don't hafta do things as elaborate as this every time we meet though, just so you know. If anything, I can just come to the library every so often and we can hang out or something~.

"Anyway, I had a good time today, too. I'm definitely enjoying spending time with you! I can't wait until we do this again." Misty then gently set a hoof on Twilight's cheek as she moved her head forward, only to share one last kiss with her marefriend for the day. It lasted for a good few seconds before Misty broke it and stepped away from Twilight. "I'll see you soon~," she said, then turned and walked away, a wide grin on her lips.

Textbook Romance Presents: Date Number Three: Meet Misty's Family

Prologue to Date Three

Over the next few days, Twilight had been busy with trying to test her spell and felt like she was coming close to being able to release it to the public. Misty was busy with classes during this time and spent quite a bit of time commuting to and from Canterlot and in her classes. If the two of them had free time between work, school, Twilight seeing her friends, and Misty hanging out with her family, they would go and see each other. Usually it would be for a nice quiet lunch or doing something fun over at the Library. On one of these dates, Misty decided to invite Twilight over to her brother's house so that she could meet the ponies that were going to be taking care of her while she was in Ponyville. Of course, Twilight happily accepted and the date was made to meet Slash and Patches.

We bring you into the scene with Twilight Sparkle just leaving her house and making her way towards the north side of the town of Ponyville.

_________________________________________________

Twilight Sparkle closed her door behind her and locked it, a smile on her face as she started trotting north towards Misty's brother's house. It wasn't too far away, but it was definitely going to be a bit of a walk. She started to reflect on what she had accomplished today, she had finally successfully cast the spell she had created earlier, though the effect was not as powerful as she was hoping so some tweaking was needed. She had finished reading Grand Master Bramble Thorn's Thesis on the Qualities and Quantities of Magical Energy on the Planet for the fourth time. She had repaired a small crack that had formed in the Null Magic Field Generator that had surfaced when she had thrown one of the gemstones at it out of frustration. Thinking back, it had been a rather productive day, and she felt like she definitely deserved the reward that awaited her at the far north of Ponyville.

She had heard so much about Patches and Slash, as well as their two kids, over the time that she had spent with Misty that Twilight had gotten herself rather pumped about the whole evening. She was excited that she was finally going to get to meet some of the ponies that Misty held near and dear to her heart. Maybe tonight she would even get the chance to reveal who her brother really was, though she would have to figure out how the rest of the family would react to that news as well. It was hard enough to calm Misty down when she had a freak out about who Twilight was, it would be even harder to calm down her whole family.

It wasn't more than five minutes before Twilight came upon the shop that the Zephyr family called their home. She took a deep breath and knocked on the door three times and waited on the doorstep for someone to answer.

It had been almost two weeks since Misty's last big date with Twilight, and roughly a month in general since she even met the mare. It had been a rather fulfilling month and Misty had been more than satisfied with the pace her relationship with the mare had been going at. Now, thanks to a suggestion from Patches that her brother agreed was a good idea, Misty had invited Twilight over to their shophouse so she could introduce her to the whole family. She was excited and it showed in her demeanor as she pulled the garlic breadsticks out of the oven and set them beside one of the cheese pizzas already there, a huge grin on her face as she sung to herself.

Rose had been her company practically this entire time, offering her help with things through the entire process of making the food the family would be eating tonight, giving Misty somepony to talk to and joke around with as she waited for the time to come when Twilight showed up at the shophouse. The little filly seemed almost as excited as she was to meet this mare, and Misty couldn't wait to introduce the two of them. She had no doubt the two would get along quickly--Rose tended to have that effect on most ponies because she was just so darn cute.

Shortly after pulling the breadsticks from the oven, Misty's ears perked up as she heard three solid knocks come from the front of the shop, eliciting a loud and happy squeal from Misty. "Heeeeee, Twilight's here~! Yay~!" She cheered, moments before gathering her magic in her excitement and teleporting herself over to the door that closed Patches' shop at the front from the rest of the house in the back. Upon opening the door, she teleported herself to the front door of the shop, a tight lipped smirk on her face. What normally might have made her a little exhausted had almost no effect on her now as she opened the front door for Twilight before leaping forward and pouncing on Twilight with an embrace.

Giggling, she squeezed the mare fondly for a few seconds, then planted a kiss on her cheek before loosing her hold on Twilight and stepping back. "Hi there, sweetie~," Misty said as she beckoned Twilight inside, then closed the door behind her when she did so. "Don't mind the candles," she gestured to the couple of glowing candles Patches had left lit in the otherwise completely dark room. They were what she called unicorn candles, candles with some strange glyphs on them that made them burn a ghostly white and give off no heat. "Sis uses 'em to see since normal light hurts her eyes. They take a bit of getting used to, but they're not that bad when you do. Now c'mon, I wanna introduce you~." She giggled again and happily trotted to the door in the back of the room, and into the actual house beyond.

The area there was wide open. The kitchen and dining room was immediately to the left, and the smell of the cheese pizza and breadsticks Misty had made were easily noticeable. To the front was a door that led to the back and to her brother's smithy, where he was probably just cleaning up for the day. To the right was their living room which mostly consisted of a couch and a somewhat large bookshelf, as well as a staircase on the far wall that led upstairs and into the rest of the house. There were no walls that separated rooms, giving it a very open feel to it.

Almost immediately upon stepping into the room, she was greeted by Rose as she flittered up to them, being her usual cute self. Misty giggled yet again and gestured to Rose with a hoof as she sidled over next to the filly and draped a warm hoof around her shoulders. "Twilight, this's one of my nieces, Rose. She's the one I told you acted a lot like me~. Rosykins, this's Twilight, my marefriend!"

Rose hummed to herself as she sat in front of the oven window, watching the breadsticks rise while kicking her back legs to the tempo of the unnamed song. The usual smile and her wide, bright green eyes, just like her mother's, watched the the dough rise on the trays and begin to darken as they baked. This was one of the better parts of baking in her opinion, watching the magic unfold as the sticky and funny smelling dough took shape into those familiar breadsticks that she liked.

Her head jerked to the shophouse door as she heard a light knocking on the door, her wings flaring a little in anticipation. It wasn't often that they had company this late in the day, aside from Snow and 'Lynn who came over every so often, and Crimson when he came to meet up with Rose, but neither of them were expected today. Today Rose was going to meet her auntie's marefriend. As Misty cheered for Twilight's arrival, the little smile grew into a childish grin as she scrambled onto her hooves and trotted over to the shophouse door.

As she waited, she remembered what her mother told her, to try to keep herself under control to leave a good impression on Misty's marefriend, but Rose was so excited to be able to finally meet the mare that her aunt was so fond of, she couldn't help herself but trot in place and giggle to herself. It was probably for the better though, had Patches not asked her daughters to be on their best behaviour, Rose most likely would have near-tackled Twilight with questions and talking.

After a minute or too of Rose listening to the muffled talking, the door to the shophouse finally opened and the two of them walked through. She trotted up to the two of them with her wide grin, forgetting herself for a second as her wings flapped excitedly, lifting her off the ground momentarily as she made her way to them. Rose waited excitedly as Misty finished properly introducing the two of them before speaking up in her usual childish way, "Hi Twilight~! I am so excited to finally meet you! Auntie Misty talks about you sooooooo much when she's at home and she always looks so happy when she does!" She paused for a second and bit her lip with a smile as though she knew something that the two of them didn't.

"Misty and I made pizza and breadsticks! You are going to have a... hehe, pizza the pizza riiiiiight~?" She giggled so hard that she snorted a little before adding, "Sorry, daddy says I can be a bit... cheesy with the puns, if you want, I can cut that... bread-schtick out~!" At this point, Rose couldn't contain her giddiness anymore and started jumping up and down, giggling uncontrollably before stopping to glance over to the kitchen where another voice came from, "Now Rosy, let's not smother Auntie Misty's marefriend too much..."

From the kitchen, seeming to materialize from the shadows of the room even though everything was bright enough to see in the dim light, came a light grey mare; a unicorn with a long and flowing jet black mane and tail, and the same vivid emerald eyes that the little pegasus had. She walked over to the three of them, smoothly and confidently, giving Rose a smile before looking at both Misty and Twilight, her trademark warm half smile on her face as she said, "Welcome to our home, Miss Sparkle, it is a pleasure to finally meet you." She offered a little bow of her head before adding, "Misty, I could smell the food from all the way upstairs, I just had to come down and see for myself what it was."

Letting a throaty chuckle out, she said, "I'm sure the rest of the family is going to enjoy a dinner that doesn't have a grain of rice in sight." Turning back to Twilight, she said, "Slash and Honey should be down for dinner any minute now. You couldn't have arrived at a better time. I'm quite amazed I haven't seen you before, from what Misty has told me, you are the librarian in Ponyville, and my husband is an avid reader. I don't go around Ponyville too much unless it's to the marketplace, what with keeping the shop open and whatnot. Anyway, how are you doing this evening?"

Twilight's smile grew wider when the door opened and a familiar face popped out and pounced on her, planting a kiss on her cheek, "Nice to see you too, Honey, oh I'm going to have to avoid using that one while I'm here aren't I? Don't want to confuse Honey Dew, now do I," she said with a chuckle as walked inside only to notice how strange the lighting was in here. Magical candles giving off the illusion of light so that someone with photosensitive eyes could actually see without bringing themselves excruciating pain. It was a clever way to do things, and one that someone that wasn't so versed in the magical arts would dismiss as some sort of crazy candle that just didn't give off any heat or use any fuel. The illusion was definitely impressive, she would have to ask one of the ponies in the house how they worked when she had the chance.

They then opened the door to the house proper and Twilight got the first look at where Misty had been staying for the duration of their relationship. It was a rather nice living area and had this odd feeling attached to it, almost like she had just wandered into a large cavern that had been populated by ponies. She then looked down and got her first look, and her first earful, of Rose, who assaulted her with puns that were much more lever than she thought a pony her age would be capable of. She chuckled at the little jokes before kneeling slightly, "It's very nice to meet you, Rose," she said with a smile, "And I'm happy to hear that your Aunt always has a smile on her face whenever she talks about me," she said as she stood back up and kissed Misty on the cheek, "I'll make sure that she keeps smiling for a very long time," she said as she nuzzled Misty.

That's when Patches showed up out of practically thin air. How had she not even noticed her presence before? She was sneaky, that was for sure, though part of her not noticing Patches was how distracted she was by the smell of the pizza cooking in the oven. It smelled so good, so appetizing, and Twilight couldn't wait to sit down and eat it. "Well I'm sure I've seen your husband a few times at the Library, assuming he comes there to check out books every so often of course. Though it is kind of difficult remembering the faces that come in and out of the Library during the day considering I've usually got my face shoved in one book or another," she said with a chuckle.

"As for how I'm doing," she said as she looked over to Misty, "Well, I'm getting to go on a date with my wonderful Marefriend," she said as she then turned to look at Rose, "And I get to meet her adorable nieces," she said as she turned back to Patches, "As well as her siblings that were nice enough to open her doors to her while she's going to school. On top of that, I get to do all of that while eating a fantastic meal prepared in your lovely home which I have been looking forward to all day. With all of those factors being taken into consideration, I have to say that I'm feeling absolutely fantastic," Twilight said, a huge smile spread across her face.

Misty couldn't help but giggle at Rose when she started making puns. Misty wasn't the biggest fan of puns, but Rose had such a cute way of saying them, it was hard not to at least laugh a little bit when she started up like that. She moved over beside Twilight after that, grinning a bit as Twilight gave her a peck on the cheek and talked about being happy that Misty smiled whenever she talked about Twilight.

Her ears perked up again when she heard Patches' voice come from the kitchen and welcome Twilight into the home, to which Misty grinned a little bit wider at. She was glad that both Lightning and Patches were okay with her being in a relationship with another mare, so much so that they were willing to invite her into their home and treat her like another member of the family. Patches then complimented her on the smell of the food she'd made, making her giggle again in excitement. She couldn't wait for the rest of them to try it out and see how they liked it.

Misty spaced out a little bit as Patches continued talking, her mind wandering off to yet again think about the date and what questions she should ask while she had the opportunity, even thinking about where the night might wind up. She only zoned back in about the time Twilight was talking about eating a fantastic meal, causing her to blush slightly before she realized what, exactly, was being talked about. She quietly cleared her throat and forced another smile on her face as she listened to the rest of Twilight's words before speaking up with, "Heehee, I'm looking forward to eating a good meal, too~. I pretty much followed mom's recipe to the dot, so you guys are in for something really good!"

About that time, the door behind Rose and Patches opened and a pegasus with a dark grey coat, as well as dark violet eyes and a dark green mane that were both similar to Misty's stepped through before taking a deep breath and humming as he shut the door. "Now there's a smell that brings back memories... A lot of tasty memories. I guess it's time to see if all those cooking lessons mom gave you will pay off, Missy," Slash teased as he approached the gathering near the door and offered Twilight a warm smile. "I was wondering if you were the mare I was thinking of when Misty mentioned your name. It's nice to see you again, miss Sparkle, much less in our house for a meal. My name is Slash, in case you've forgotten it at all," he said with a playful wink before looking around the gathering.

"Honey hasn't come down yet? I guess I'll go get her while you guys start getting dinner set up." He turned then, only to pause as a voice came from the direction of the stairs before he could even take a step. "I am already here, daddy," said the voice, shortly before a little filly melted out of the shadows much like Patches had. Like mother, like daughter, it seemed. Slash smiled a little bit as Honey stepped over between Slash and Patches, silently staring up at Twilight for a moment before speaking again. "Aunt Misty's marefriend? Good evening. I am Honey Dew," she said in her typical curt manner before Slash spoke up after her.

"Alright, I've been starving all day, so let's chow down everypony," he said with a chuckle before leading the way over to side of the house that held the kitchen and dining room. While the other ponies moved over to the table and began filtering into the seats around it, Slash stepped over to the oven with Patches, prepared to help her bring the food over to the table as they usually did together. He paused, however, when he was pushed to the side by Misty who then gave him a stubborn look. "I made it, I'm gonna take care of servin', too, Z," she said in a tone that said she wasn't taking no for an answer, even following the gesture through with a face she made at him.

Slash just sighed and rolled his eyes before gesturing to Patches with his head. "Well, if she wants to I suppose. Let's go sit, Love," he said before moving to the table and taking his usual seat at the table, though he had a little less room now that he was sharing his side of the table with Patches ever since Misty had moved in with them. It wasn't an arrangement he disliked at all, though it made things a little awkward from time to time. "So, Twilight," Slash began as Misty carried the pizza and breadsticks over to the table before serving portions to each pony sitting there. "I've actually always been curious about the library. I mean... what's it like living in a tree? Does the hollow inside ever grow in on you? How was it ever hollowed to be a livable space in the first place?" He paused at the rhyme he made before glancing over to Rose, smirking lightly as he knew the squeal that was to follow.
