Twilight listened to the conversation going on around her, paying special attention to whatever Misty said and the way she said it. There was something odd about the way she mentioned eating a good meal, like she was trying to say more with that statement than what was obvious to Twilight. However, she decided to dismiss any of those thoughts as soon as Misty mentioned her Mother's recipe, which just made Twilight more excited for the food that she was about to have. She had never had a bad meal when the recipe was something that had been passed down through generations of the family.

Then she noticed Slash coming from upstairs, "Oh Mr. Slash, I didn't realize that it was going to be you that I was going to be sharing a table with tonight," she said with a smile on her face, glad that there was going to be someone at the table that she had at least met before besides Misty, "If I had known that you were Misty's brother I would have brought over some books for you to read. There are quite a few volumes that I just got in recently that I think you would be interested in so I'll be sure to reserve them for your next visit. I just hope you realize that just because I'm dating your sister doesn't mean that you're not going to be held responsible for turning your books in on time. In fact, I might just have to make your fines even higher considering Misty comes over all the time so you really have no excuse for being late," Twilight said, returning the playful wink.

That's when Honey Dew showed up out of the shadows, this really was a family of opposites. Slash and Rose were practically the same pony, loud, silly, and a lot more open with their personalities. Then there was Honey Dew and Patches, who seemed much more reserved and almost mysterious in their demeanor. Though these were just Twilight's initial impressions, and she knew that they were sure to change around as she got to know these ponies better and better. She looked down at Honey Dew and smiled, "It's very nice to meet you, Honey Dew."

Then it seemed like it was time for dinner, and Twilight couldn't have been happier to see the food come out of the oven. She made her way over to the table, taking a seat with an empty space next to it for Misty when she finally made her way over from the oven with the pizza and bread sticks. She waited patiently for the pizza to be served to her before picking it up with her magic and taking a quick bite before answering Slash's question. The pizza was delicious, creamy and cheesy without being overwhelming, the sauce was tangy and sweet at the same time, and the crust was light and fluffy just how she liked it. It was definitely one of the better pizza's Twilight had ever had, and she was looking forward to whatever other recipe's Misty's Mother had managed to give her.

She swallowed and then proceeded to answer Slash's question, "Well, I haven't really had a problem with the tree growing in on me, in fact, I don't think the tree has grown at all since I moved in. The main problem with living in the tree is that it's kind of moist because of the sap and the water that the roots absorb. Because of this, I have to cast a special spell that doesn't allow moisture inside of the Library area of the house, it's kind of complicated and I have to cast in every couple of months to make sure the seal remains fresh. Other than that, living in a tree is pretty nice, the air is really fresh and it never gets overly hot or cold in there because it's pretty well insulated naturally. As for how it was hollowed out," Twilight said as she looked up to the ceiling in thought, "I can't really say I know how it was done. It's been like that for a very long time, long before I lived in there."

"But I have a question for you as well," she said, addressing both Patches and Slash, not really caring who answered her, "How did you two meet, and why did you decide to open this Blacksmith shop?"

Patches took her seat right next to Slash as he sat down, brushing against him and giving him a smile as Honey took her seat beside her. Rose plopped herself beside Honey and the empty chair that was Misty's seat, sitting up straight just like her mother told her to do, as well as keeping her wings at her sides and not flared out. A guest was joining them for dinner for the first time, and the children most definitely needed to make a good first impression.

As the pizza and breadsticks arrived, Patches helped herself to a piece, putting it on her plate after a long and stretchy bit of cheese broke from the pizza. It wasn't often that she would be able to eat something that wasn't rice, but when it happened, it was always a fresh experience. Even if her former master had nearly one thousand different recipes for rice, every so often she just couldn't stand to look at another cupful of the white grains. A fresh and home-made pizza from her sister-in-law would be a good reprieve.

And it was. As Slash asked Twilight what it was like living in a tree, Patches took a bite, savouring the taste of it as wel as she could. It was nice not having to cook for a change, and her nose did not lie to her when she could smell this from across the house. She tried her best to keep up with the conversation whilst enjoying the delicious food, nodding along as Twilight explained how she kept the tree from ruining the books in the library and how living in it was actually just as practical as any other house. She had heard about the library in a tree before from Slash, and they both shared the same questions about such a place. It was nice to finally be enlightened as to how everything in there worked.

Rose was just as enraptured too, and she spoke up as Twilight finished, thankfully after remembering to swallow what was in her mouth, "Woooooaaah! You live in a tree? That sounds like it -wood- be awesome! I can imagine sitting inside an actual tree and -leafing- through some good books!" Patches giggled a little to herself at her daughters comments. She was always the one that loved to talk, whether it was because of the puns or the conversation was hard to tell, but her voice would always be among the first to comment on the conversation at hoof.

After Twilight finished explaining how she went about living in a tree, she asked both Patches and Slash how they met and why they decided to start up their store. The light gray unicorn set down her slice of pizza, glancing at Slash with a light smile before she spoke up, "Well, I had owned this shop since I was eighteen years of age, about sixteen years ago. Back then, it was simply a tailoring shop, and I lived and worked here by myself. We met by complete chance, and it is that chance that I will always be grateful for..."

She paused after that to give another grin to her husband before continuing, "I had gone to the market as I did every Monday, and as I was leaving, I literally ran into Slash. He was so kind to me, whereas everypony else would ignore me. He walked me home, we talked a little on the way back, and he asked me out for lunch. I couldn't say no to such a charming stallion. A few months of dating passed, and he mentioned that he used to be a blacksmith before he worked as a sword for hire, and I offered him a place to stay when work for him started to dry up so he could still be here with me. Our passion for each other only grew stronger from that point as we came to know each other more personally."

She gave Slash another glance, figuring that she had talked enough, and that Slash would want to retell the story of how they met and opened the shop. She always did like hearing what he had to say about how they met, and even her little recollection sent shivers of nostalgia down her side. Rose had slowed her eating down a great deal as she listened, the stories of how Slash and Patches met being the few tales that she dared not interrupt with her own little quirky comments. She enjoyed them just as much as Patches did.

Slash took the opportunity to lift a slice of the pizza Misty set on his plate as Twilight responded to his question, ears perked as he listened idly. Upon taking a bite, he grinned at the flavor, another wave of memories coming over him as he chewed on the pizza. It was just as tasty as the way his mother made it, but if Misty really did follow the recipe like she said, that wasn't exactly any surprise.

It was actually pretty interesting to know that the tree Twilight called her residence was just as viable as any other house found in Ponyville, even if its upkeep was something only few ponies could manage. The fact that Twilight had no idea how the hollowing of the tree was done was somewhat disappointing, but he still offered a warm smile to her in thanks for satiating his curiosity as he continued to chew on the pizza.

Twilight turned the conversation over to himself and Patches after that, asking both how they'd come to meet. He gave a loving smile to Patches and urged her to go first with a slight nod. As she began explaining how things had come to be, Slash took another bite of his pizza before sitting back in his chair and chewing until the time came for him to add to Patches' story. It was a story they'd told many times over the course of their relationship, and it was a story they never got tired of telling.

When the time came for Slash to pick up where Patches left off, he gave her another smile before leaning forward in his chair. "There's not really much I can add to Peaches' story," he told Twilight as he ruffled his wings. "But I know both Rose and her enjoy hearing what I have to say about it, so I'm going to repeat some of what she said. Oh, and I apologize in advance if I get a little romantic with it," he finished with a snicker.

"Anyway, as Peaches mentioned, I used to work as a sword-for-hire. I'd go around, escorting ponies, acting as a bodyguard if they needed it, gathering certain difficult to obtain materials if they needed them... Basically, I was trying to make use of the sword that gave me my cutie mark. It wasn't really a glamorous life, but I got by. However, it also meant a lot of travelling between cities when nopony else had anything they needed done at that time.

"So, that was one of the reasons I found myself in Ponyville. I found the cheapest one-bedroom apartment I could and stayed in it for about a month before heading to the market and--as she said--literally ran into her. Or, rather, was run into by her. And I guess you could say from that point on I was captivated by her. Her eyes were just so breathtaking, I had to get to know the mare behind them, though she was terrified that I'd just leave her before I got the chance like she said other ponies did.

"Obviously, that didn't happen. We went out to lunch the next day, and everything between us just clicked, especially when I reassured her the past was the past. Like she said, things just continued to grow between us and we dated when I found the time between work to spend time with her, until I eventually moved in with her and just continued to fall even more in love with her.

"As for why we opened the smithy, that was because of me. My cutie mark doesn't mean I'm good with swordplay, it means I'm skilled in making swords--weapons, in general. I hated it when I was younger; it was part of the reason I ran away from home, because I didn't want to grow up making things that were used to end lives, but I've come to terms with it these days and I tend to make more practice swords and ceremonial stuff than things that can actually be used for combat, though I do get special orders for things like that. Anyway, about the time Peaches and I got married, I got back into touch with my parents and asked dad for some help so I could build my own smithy here in Ponyville. And that's the short version of our story," he finished, flashing Twilight another smile as he leaned forward to resume eating some of his pizza.

In the mean-time Misty, who'd taken her seat next to Twilight after serving each pony some of the food, spoke up after Slash, her gaze locked onto Twilight. "Hey, Twilight, I've got something that's been bothering me for a little while now," she started, swirling her breadstick in some of the marinara sauce that had been prepared. "When we met, you mentioned your sister's the one who urged you to find somepony to date, but... Well, when you were telling me about your family, you didn't mention your sister at all. What's up with that?"

twilight listened closely to both Slash and Patches as they told their stories about how they met. It was such a romantic affair, the sell sword coming from his last job to return to his cheap apartment in the town that he calls home despite how much he was forced to move around because of his job. A chance meeting in the marketplace where the heroine and our dashing hero crash into each other, and just like that their fates are intertwined. The beauty honors the mercenary's advances and allows him to take her on a date, something simple, a lunch where they can talk and really get to know the pony that they would, unbeknownst to the two characters, eventually share the rest of their lives with. It was fascinating, and was just as classically cliche as Twilight expected it to be, and she was loving every second of it.

The story about why they ended up opening the smithy wasn't nearly as captivating, but it still had its interesting points involved. The young stallion looking for a way to trick destiny by choosing his own interpretation of his cutie mark. Wanting to settle down with the mare of his dreams, he stops running away from everything and decides that it is about time to embrace what was given to him. He reunites with his parents and together they build a great forge and he begins to make beautiful creations, becoming an artist, not with paint and brush, but with hammer and fire.

Twilight shook her head slightly after the stories were done, she really did need to stop romanticizing every story she heard like that. She was about to comment on their story, but before she could open her mouth, Misty piped up with a question that she was hoping she wouldn't ask at this dinner. Her mouth, which had opened slightly at the mention of her sister, closed immediately as she retreated into her thoughts for a couple of seconds as she thought of the best way to word the answer. She took a deep breath before turning to Misty, attempting to address mainly Misty instead of everyone at the table, "Before I tell you about my sister, I think it would be better if I told you the truth about my brother.

"My brother's not just some nameless guard that my parents aren't proud of. He's Shining Armor, former Captain of the Guard and currently resides as one of the rulers of the Crystal Kingdom. He always wanted to become a guard, and my parents supported him all the way. Though, because of this, I was often left alone when I was a foal, and my parent's simply would not have that. So, we decided that it would be best if we acquired a foalsitter. Now, my brother seems to have gotten the attention of my foalsitter somewhere along the line and now they're married, ruling the Crystal Kingdom together," She paused for a little bit to let all of that information settle in. She knew she was throwing a lot at Misty and the rest of her family at this point, and she didn't want them to get too overwhelmed.

After a few moments, Twilight spoke up again, "My foalsitter was Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, also known as Princess Cadence, alicorn princess and current queen of the Crystal Kingdom alongside my brother. Besides residing over the Crystal Kingdom, she is also the Princess of Love, commanding powers of pony's hearts like a glorified matchmaker," Twilight paused for a moment as she realized what she had just said, "That probably sounds a little harsh, but I don't mean it to be. She's actually really awesome and and lover them both to death and I can't wait for you to meet them because I know you're going to love them too, and I just really hope that you don't freak out too much because I just threw a lot of stuff at you at once and I feel really bad about it but you asked and I couldn't just ignore the question or dodge it again cause I would feel so bad about it and and and..."

Twilight went silent for a little bit as she just looked at Misty before throwing her hooves around her, "I'm really sorry that I lied to you about Shining before, I feel horrible about it, and I hope you can forgive me."

Patches listened to Slash as he retold their story from his perspective, which she always thought was much more interesting than her own. While she had left out the bit before she came to Ponyville, it didn't really matter. When she found Slash, she considered that point in her life and from then on to be a new chapter, and it was by far the best one yet. The only thing that was left out, probably because it would be stating the obvious, was the fact that she gave birth to Rose about a year after they got married, and another year after that came Honey Dew. There was no greater testament to their love than the fact that they now raise two beautiful little girls.

When he finished telling the story, Misty spoke up and asked about Twilight's sister, whom apparently was never mentioned or talked about before. Patches listened politely, waiting for Twilight to explain while at the same time going over what Misty had told them about Twilight in the first place. What Twilight did explain, however, was not the same as what Misty told them, and it threw her for a loop. Her emerald eyes widened in surprise and shock, realizing that with Twilight's brother being the king of the Crystal Kingdom, she was technically considered royalty too. Never would she have imagined that somepony that was royalty would be sitting at her table in their house. She was quiet, stunned into silence by this fact alone.

Rose, however, was not so quiet about it. "WOAAAAAH! Your brother is, like, king of the Crystal Kingdoms, and he is married to an Alicorn Princess?! Not only that, but she is the Princess of Love herself--well, I guess Queen of Love now, but WOOOOOW!" Patches snapped out of her stunned mindset enough to look at Rose from across the table, raising a hoof to her lips and saying, "Rosy, shush! No yelling at the table." While that did silence Rose, it didn't stop her from staring at Twilight, jaw dropped and a smile on her face.

The only thing that did was stop the little pegasus from shouting her exclamations. She still continued to ramble on as her mind pieced together what this all meant, "So now that your brother is married to the Queen of Love, does that make him the King of Love too? If that makes him the King of Love would that make you the Sister of Love? Is it weird that he is married to your former foalsitter? I think it would be pretty weird if Honey married our foalsitter at first but I would be happy for them too! Does he ever invite you up to the Crystal Kingdoms? Have you ever been there before? OOOH! What's it like up there? Is everything made of crystals?! That would be soooooo cool to live in a house made of a giant crystal~!"

Patches let out a sigh and said, "Rosy, it isn't polite to pry. Give her some time to answer some of your questions before you ask her more, okay?" She then offered Twilight an apologetic smile and said, "Well, that is most definitely a surprise Miss Sparkle. I'm sure it must be very interesting knowing that you are related to a member of royalty in the Crystal Kingdoms. He must have really caught the princess' eye then, if she was the Princess of Love. The Crystal Kingdoms do sound like a lovely place to visit as well. Perhaps some day I hope that we can go there on a family vacation."

She then looked at Misty, curious about how she would react to this news. This was obviously something that she hadn't outright told Misty before, so Patches hoped that she didn't take it as though Twilight was trying to keep secrets from her, or that Misty would start to feel very plain compared to Twilight. It was easy to make such a mistake when comparing one's self to somepony with a bit more of a glamorous background, but finding somepony to fall in love with was never about backgrounds and family bloodlines. It was all about personality and homogamy. She just hoped Misty saw it like that too.

Misty continued to hold her attention on Twilight as she slipped the end of the breadstick covered in marinara in her mouth, slowly munching on it as she listened to her marefriend respond to her... apparently starting with the 'truth' about her brother? A confused look crossed Misty's face at that, but she still continued to listen to what was said.

The moment Twilight said 'Shining Armor', something clicked in Misty's head, a faint memory of hearing a name like that years ago. It was related to something big, she knew, but it was something she hadn't thought about in a while, so it was a memory always fleeting at the edge of her mind. It was a little annoying, and she couldn't keep trying to chase the memory while Twilight was still talking, so she abandoned trying to remember what it was. She wasn't all that surprised that her brother was Captain of the Guard, either--as with her parents, it was something she'd come to expect of them, a family of greatness. His being a ruler of the Crystal Kingdom was a little more surprising, though...

By this time, Misty had set her breadstick back down on her plate, a distant look on her face as she pieced together everything Twilight was telling her... and adding new information in as Twilight spoke, talking about her foalsitter and sister-in-law, the other ruler of the Crystal Kingdom, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza. That was the big thing she'd remembered: the huge royal wedding everypony had been talking about years ago, the marriage of Princess Cadence. The shock of the news practically left Misty's mind blank. She stared down at the plate in front of her, eyes widened slightly on an otherwise neutral face. With everything Misty had learned about Twilight, about who she was and what connections she had... There was no way she could hold up to that, despite what Twilight told her before.

Instinctively, Misty brought one of her hooves up to Twilight's back when she threw her hooves around her, distant expression still on her face. She opened and closed her mouth as Patches broke the initial silence, before finally forcing herself to speak up when she'd finished, her voice hesitant. "Y-you're... royalty, Twilight. You're royalty. And special, and influential, and powerful, and--" Her words were cut off by another voice across the table as they interrupted her, the new voice surprisingly confident despite the new revelation... As well as for coming from an extremely quiet pony like Honey Dew.

"Daddy, don't you always say that ponies who are under this roof are all equal?" she asked, blank expression held onto her father. Slash paused for a moment before giving a hesitant nod, not sure if that would really apply for this situation. "Then it doesn't matter if Twilight is really royalty," she said, looking back to Misty. "All that matters is she's Twilight, a pony just like the rest of us." She paused at that, long enough for her to lift her pizza to her mouth again. "So stop fretting over it and enjoy her for the pony you already know so we can get back to dinner." And with that, she slipped her pizza into her mouth and began chewing again, acting as if nothing happened.

A stunned silence came from both Misty and Slash for a few seconds, until a sheepish expression crossed Misty's face and she looked to Twilight. "H-heh... Honbun's right, Twilight; sorry. I just... It caught me off-guard, I guess..." She smiled awkwardly for a moment before giving Twilight a pat on her leg with a hoof. "And... thank you for telling me. That means a lot..." She turned to her breadstick after that, picking it back up so she could begin eating the rest of it, otherwise unsure what to do with herself. Slash spoke up soon after, however, his attention turned to Twilight.

"I'm, uh... Afraid I've only heard rumors about the Crystal Kingdom. What is it like there? Is everything made of--" He paused then, glancing over to Rose. "Forgot Rose has already asked those questions. Oops. Um... Well, I'm still curious I suppose, if you're willing to tell us about it."

Twilight pulled away from Misty, a concerned look on her face, this was exactly what she was expecting when she started talking about her family, and she wasn't sure how to handle it. Luckily, it seemed like Honey Dew had something to say that pretty much saved her from a night full of awkward moments and little interaction between herself and Misty due to her overwhelming, and unjustified, feelings of inadequacy. Twilight looked over to the filly who was obviously a lot more wise than her appearance had let on. The purple unicorn nodded to her as if to say 'thank you' and looked back to Misty, "She's right you know," she said as she stared into Misty's eyes, a smile on her face, "I never thought of myself as being better than you. In fact, I tend to think the exact opposite, that I don't deserve to be with someone that makes me so happy every single time I think of her. You've an amazing pony, Misty, and I wish you could see yourself the same way that I see you," Twilight said as she pulled Misty close again.

Twilight stroked Misty's mane one last time before looking away from her and back towards the rest of the family who seemed to all have their questions about the Crystal Kingdom. It had been quite some time since her last visit, but it wasn't too hard for Twilight to remember it, "The Crystal Kingdom is a beautiful place filled with life even though the rest of the area around it is covered in snow. The most noticeable thing about going to the Crystal Kingdom is just how different everything is. I mean, it's not called the Crystal Kingdom for nothing," she said as she put on her best storyteller's voice, "The whole place looks like it is cut from the finest gemstones, and even the pony's there seem to be made out of gleaming gems. It's a beautiful place that shines in the sun and is almost too radiant to look upon for too long, but you just can't turn your eyes away from the beauty.

"The buildings, the roads, the trees, the castle, and even the pony's themselves shine like gemstones. If you ever manage to go, I can ensure you that you'll be met with quite the surprise as you cross over the barrier protecting it from the outside weather and watch your coat and mane begin to shine as you take on the appearance of a Crystal pony. If you time your vacation well, you'll be able to see the Crystal Fair, a celebration of life and love that helps fuel the Crystal Kingdom's core, the Crystal Heart," she said with a giggle, "I know I'm saying crystal a lot, but that's just what they call everything there. It's not a library, its a crystal library, it's not an apple, it's a crystal apple, it's not a dog, it's a crystal dog. It kind of gets annoying after awhile, but I'm sure it's something one would get used to if were there for an extended period of time."

With that, Twilight was finished with her explanation of the Crystal Kingdom, and she was ready to move on to a different topic, preferably something that didn't have to do with her. She turned towards Slash and Patches while also taking a glance at Misty during the following question, "And that's all I really know about it, but at this point I'm starting to get curious about where all of you came from before you ended up in Ponyville. I'm sure your mom was an amazing cook considering she gave you the recipe for this delicious pizza."

Patches watched as Misty's face turned blank and distant, and in her mind, she held her breath. She could already see that Misty was not taking this news well at all. Stunned to the point where Misty could only open and close her mouth in silence, and finally speaking up when Patches finished asking her questions meant to steer the conversation away from such matters. She really hoped that Misty wasn't going to dwell on this, because being as sensitive as she was under that bubbly and lighthearted exterior, this would still make her feel inadequate compared to Twilight.

It took her daughter piping up however, to calm the green unicorn down. Patches glanced to Honey Dew, who sat beside her quietly this entire time nibbling on her food, choosing now to speak up and respond with an answer that was so mature and thought out for her age. When she finished, she couldn't help but smile and feel proud of her daughter. As Misty calmed herself down, Patches wrapped a foreleg around Honey's back and pulled her closer, giving her a hug and nuzzling the top of her head.

"I don't think I could have said that any better Honbun," she whispered as she nuzzled her daughter, "you're so mature for your age, you know that? I'm proud of you." She then let Honey go so that she could continue eating her food, and Patches watched her for a few more seconds before getting back to her own food and listening to Twilight describe the Crystal Kingdom to them. Honey was such a mommy's girl, just like how Rose was a daddy's girl. They both loved their daughters equally, and both of them spent just as much time with either parent, but it wasn't that hard to see which daughter would take more after which parent.

The more Twilight described the Crystal Kingdom, the more interesting it sounded. Patches would definitely not mind if they decided to take a little family vacation there to see the sights and relax, perhaps during the Crystal Fair. She had heard rumours about ponies turning to crystal as they entered the kingdom borders, but she always thought that it was a figure of speech or an over exaggeration, but to hear it confirmed by one such as Twilight, it was very fantastical, and she wondered what she and the rest of the family would look like as Crystal Ponies.

Twilight then asked where they all came from, and figuring that since she had gone first last time, she spoke up first in order to keep the conversation flowing, "I was originally born in Manehattan, and I lived with my parents until I was around two years of age. I... lost them in a camping trip on the border of the Everfree Forest, and I came to live with a hermit by the name of Master Edge. I lived and learned under him in the forest for sixteen years before I came back from the forest to Ponyville, and set up shop here." Patches shrugged with a light smile and added, "I'm a local compared to where Slash and Misty come from though, their story is leagues more interesting than mine as well."

Slash shrugged a little bit when Patches said his story was more interesting and spoke up after with, "There's not much interesting about a vagabond," before taking a brief bite of the breadstick he'd already brought to his mouth with Misty taking up the slack in the meantime. "He means there's nothing interesting about running away from home!" she teased, sticking her tongue out at him to which Slash gave a quiet sigh.

"Yeah, I guess you could call it that, too," he replied after swallowing the breadstick. "I don't know what all Misty's told you, but we both came from Salt Lick City--dad owned his own smithy, mom her own restaurant. Both incredible entrepeneurs, and I guess they were both hoping we'd turn them into family-owned establishments... but it seems both Misty and I had different plans. I kind of... well, like Misty said, ran away from home when I was eighteen because I was getting sick of living in Salt Lick City, and since my cutie mark means I'm good at making weapons... I didn't want to do that for the rest of my life. Not until I met Patches, anyway.

"So, I just took the sword I'd made with my own hooves and decided to travel around Equestria and the world for a bit, making a living for myself as a sell-sword like we mentioned earlier. There's not much more to it, really. I just traveled, until I came here and fell in love with Patches." He shrugged again to signal his story was over before munching on the rest of his breadstick, only to glance over to Honey as she spoke up again, her attention directed to Twilight.

"I always hear about colts and fillies being together," she began, gently setting her food down on her plate as is proper etiquette. "At school, around Ponyville. That's... what is considered normal, right? It's why I almost never see two fillies or mares in relationship? What is it like, being with somepony of the same gender and how is it different from being with a colt?"

Twilight looked first to Patches, and then back to Slash as they told their respected tales. Patches's story was rather tragic, losing her parents like that at such a young age though it seemed like she still came out fine from the whole experience considering how she had managed to find Slash and raise such a lovely family. Slash's story felt like stemmed from more selfish desires and a want to not become his parents as opposed to them kicking him out or something along those lines. It was no less interesting, but it still felt rather odd that they both ended up at the same place after living such different lives beforehand.

She was about to respond to the two stories, but was cut short when Honey Dew asked her a question that she wasn't immediately sure how to answer. She looked over at the filly, pausing for a moment as she thought about the best way to word her answer, "Well," she said as she set down the breadstick she had been nibbling on while listening to Slash and Patches, "While there are plenty of differences between colts and fillies, there isn't really that big of a difference when you're dating one. At the end of the day, both genders are still ponies and as long as you find one that you love and who loves you it doesn't really matter what gender they are."

"However, if I had to tell you a difference it would have to stem from the physical as well as the emotional. When I say physical, I mean that who you're going to fall in love with sometimes has something to do with what gender you find physically attractive. Most colts are going to be taller than an average mare, stronger, and will have a few noticeable differences in facial structure and various other things. A lot of mares find that appealing not only because they enjoy being with someone that is larger, but because they enjoy being with someone who they feel can protect them. They want to be with someone who can wrap their legs around them and make them feel secure.

"Then there are mares who are going to be about the same size as you would be and will look similar to you at a structural level. They look more feminine, softer, and will generally have longer manes and tails and such. There are a lot of reasons why another mare would find this appealing, one of them being that they feel confident around another mare because they feel like they could tell them anything in confidence."

Twilight took a deep breath, she wasn't really all that comfortable talking about physical attractiveness or how certain things would appeal to certain ponies because it was something she wasn't all that familiar with herself. She was pretty much just summarizing passages of books she had read about the definition of attractiveness and what kind of features ponies find appealing about each gender. She wished she could answer that part of the question better, but at this point she wasn't getting anywhere and she felt the need to move on to something else.

"However, none of that really matters if you don't find a pony's personality attractive. Males and females both have certain quirks about their personalities that are going to shine through, but at the same time there isn't really a way to define these quirks. You pretty much just need to look for someone that gets along well with you and makes you happy," she said as she looked over to Misty and nuzzled her shoulder, "That's the main thing it look for in a relationship," she said as she kissed Misty on the cheek, "Happiness."

Twilight then blushed as she realized what she had just done around Misty's family as she turned back to Honey, "I guess that's really all I can comment on. To be honest, I'm not really the best pony to ask since Misty is the first pony I've ever been in a relationship with so I hope that's a good enough answer for you."

Patches didn't expect the question that came from her youngest daughter, and for a second, she hesitated before slowly turning her gaze to the quiet and small voice of Honey Dew, not saying anything and keeping a relatively neutral face as before, but in her mind, she was stunned. She had no idea that her daughter was thinking about that, and she didn't know what to think herself. Patches wasn't sure if Hon was interested in a relationship like that or if she was just being herself and asking the awkward questions without fear; perhhaps she could ask her later when there was no company over.

The question very much came out of nowhere to Patches. Honey had always spoken her mind, sure, but Patches should have realized that this was the kind of question that would have been on her mind. She had always told her that Snowflake and Ma'lynn were only friends living together when it was a little more intricate than that, which probably stopped Hon from asking that sort of question. Now that she had access to a mare-mare relationship, she was very well going to ask them what Patches could only imagine to be the most awkward question to ever ask at a dinner table.

It wasn't as though Patches had a problem with the idea of same-sex relationships; she's seen it every day and even knew ponies that lived like that, including Misty and Twilight. She remained quiet though. It wasn't like she could discipline Honey for asking a legitimate question at the wrong time, as Patches never did tell Hon that it wasn't a question that was okay to ask in the first place. Error on Patches' part perhaps, now she was just going to have to hope that it didn't offend their guest.

What surprised her just as much though, was Twilight's willingness to respond to such a question. Not able to help herself but stopping what she was eating to listen to what Twilight said. She was in no way wrong about what she said, but Patches started to wonder if she had made this deduction based on her experiences of dating with Misty or based on the dating experiences of other ponies.

"I can't agree more with you, Twilight." Patches spoke up as she finished, "Can't just love somepony for how they look. You've got to really love who they are too, especially if you plan on spending your life with them. Makes your days go by that much better." She finished with her food and waited politely for everypony to finish eating what was on their plates so that she could take the dishes to the sink, that is if Misty wasn't going to beat her to the punch first.

Misty did indeed beat Patches to putting away everypony's dishes. As soon as one pony was finished eating for the night, Misty immediately got up and brought their dishes to the sink and washed them off before returning the table to wait for the next pony to be done so she could do the same thing, mostly while Twilight had been responding to Honey's question.

Meanwhile, Honey had been staring directly at Twilight, attention held on the purple mare the entire time she spoke, expression as blank as ever. It was hard to tell what she was thinking about Twilight's response, or why she'd asked Twilight about it, but it certainly didn't seem to bore her. Slash was a little bit of a different story, if only because he had been sitting a little awkwardly in his chair as he listened, slightly uncomfortable with the conversation and unsure of Honey asking such a question.

Still, Honey gave a slight nod of thanks to Twilight when she finished, quickly eating the rest of her breadstick and pushing her plate away from her to signal she was finished as Patches responded to Twilight's words. When Patches finished speaking, Honey spoke up again, once more to Twilight. "Thanks for telling me. I already asked Aunt Misty about it and she kind of said the same thing, so I just wanted to hear what you had to say about it." She paused as Misty came up behind her, wrapping one of her hooves around Honey's shoulders and warmly hugging her from behind.

"Hee hee, silly Honbun~, always so curious. But there's nothing wrong with that!" Misty said before playfully pecking Honey's cheek with a kiss and pulling away from the hug, bringing Honey's dish with her to wash it along with the others. Once all dishes had been gathered, Misty stepped back over to Twilight and looked around to the other ponies sitting at the table with an easy grin. "Alright, all the food's been put up, the dishes are all cleaned, all our tummies are full... Thank you all for making this a great meal and for welcoming Twilight like you did! Unless Twilight has something else she still wants to do, I think I'm going to go walk her back home. Twilight?" she asked, looking back to the mare, still grinning.

Twilight smiled at Honey Dew, "Well I'm happy I could give you a bit of confirmation for what your aunt said," she said as she looked up at Misty who was hugging Honey at the moment. It was so nice to see Misty interacting with her family like this, and it was even better to know that she felt the same way about relationships as she did. Not that she really expected otherwise, but it was nice to have that little bit of extra confirmation to really cement it in her mind.

Twilight sat at the table for a few more moments, not really saying anything as she tried to gauge the reactions of the rest of the family sitting around her. It seemed that both Slash and Patches were surprised by Honey's question, a reaction that she would expect from the parents of the young filly in question. While this was happening, Misty was finishing up the dishes and had managed to come over and thank her family for welcoming Twilight into their home. When it was time for Twilight to take the floor, she took a breath and began speaking, "Thank you very much for having me tonight, I had a great time and the food was excellent. It was really nice meeting all of you and I really hope that we'll get a chance to do something like this again cause I've still got a lot to learn about all of you," she said with a smile as she started toward the door with Misty by her side, "For now though, it's about time that I get home."

She waved goodbye one more time as she opened the door with her magic and started walking with Misty by her side. She opened the door that led outside and kept walking for a few more yards into the brisk night air, leaves crunching beneath her hooves as she made her way back towards town. After about fifteen or so steps, Twilight turned towards Misty suddenly and wrapped her forelegs around her and pulled her into a kiss, holding her there for about ten seconds before letting her go, "You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that," she said with a giggle.

Misty watched Twilight with her grin as the mare stood up and addressed the other ponies in the house, thanking them all for having her. When that was over and Twilight began to walk to the front door, Misty waved to her family before following Twilight outside, shuddering a bit at the cool night's air. It was nowhere near uncomfortable or unpleasant... but just the perfect touch to the end of her date with Twilight.

Yet it wasn't going to stop there, it seemed. After barely leaving the shophouse, a surprise awaited her as Twilight suddenly turned, wrapped her forelegs around Misty, and pressed a passionate kiss to Misty's lips. Her eyes widened only briefly in surprise before she lifted one of her forelegs as well and wrapped it around Twilight in turn, humming pleasantly against the kiss as she returned Twilight's kiss, even venturing to run her tongue along Twilight's lips moments before the kiss was broken.

Grinning once more, Misty watched Twilight as the mare separated from the embrace, giggling a little bit as she affectionately nuzzled Twilight, breath a little heavy from the heated gesture. "You're not the only one who's been waiting to do that, sweetie~," Misty cooed as she turned with Twilight and continued on towards her treehouse, more than content with doing nothing other than that until they finally did reach her residence.

When they did, Misty glanced up to the treehouse for a second or two before looking back to Twilight and sharing another, briefer kiss with her. After breaking that one too, she reluctantly spoke up, scuffing her hoof on the ground a bit as she did. "Well... We're here. I guess this means good night, hmm?"

Twilight leaned into the kiss with Misty at her front door, it was supposedly a kiss goodnight, but Twilight had other plans, "Well," she said as she opened the front door to her home, the hot air that had been trapped inside her residence escaping and mingling with the chill on their bodies, "It doesn't have to mean good night, I mean," she said with a blush as she looked at the ground, not quite sure how she should word the next thing that was going to come out of her mouth.

She took a deep breath and gulped as she tried to get rid of the lump in her throat, "I-I mean, w-we don't really need to say good night. It's kind of cold out and I wouldn't want you t-to go home alone," she said as she picked her head up a little bit, just so she could look into Misty's eyes when she said what she had been trying to say ever since they got back to the Library.

She took one last deep breath before the words started to flow, "So why don't you just stay here for tonight? I mean, if you want to that is."
