The morning was getting on, Blast Box had decided to venture out to the market in search of more materials in which he was planning on using in the way of fortification modifications on his own home, as well as perhaps to get more ideas for making the town more secure in the face of conflict. Blast trotted to his workroom door, surrounding the opening mechanism with a familiar orange glow it turns and loudly the rest of the thick vault-like door clicks and churns to life before opening to reveal a few steps to the workshop. The room itself being rather small however very sturdily built with thick floors and walls. Though not that you could see much of the walls or floor with shelves being filled with boxes containing various sacks of powders and metals, while most of the floor was covered by the footprint of a large worktable with a magic-powered lamp hanging from the ceiling over it. A quick spark from his horn sets the lamp aglow, enough to where he could see a few of the bundles he was looking for on the worktable they soon take flight surrounded by his aura and fall into his saddlebags which promptly lock afterwards. He trots back up the stairs, as he moves further from the light, it's brightness diminishes until finally going dark by the time the door closes with a heavy metallic sound.

He lifts his hardhat off a hat rack and levitates it to his head as he pushes the door open with a forehoof, kicking it closed with a hind leg as he steps outside. It was a nice day, the pegasi still seem to be up on their weather duties despite the chaos in the outer regions. As he makes his way towards the market place it seems the talk of war didn't have as much as an effect as he would have hoped, though in a way he was glad. The last thing he wants to see are ponies panicking and living in fear, on the other hand there was a readiness he was not seeing as much as he wanted of. However, that is what this trip was about, what his plans were, to get ponies prepared but to a point where they did not have to abandon their day-to-day lives. It wasn't long before he reached the market place, though it was the area past the market to order larger supplies like lumber and metal.

It was there he noticed another pony dealing with metal merchant, his curious was piqued and he approached the pony with questions in mind regarding the use of all that metal, perhaps if she is adept with the use of it she may be able to help him with the readying of defenses, even though he doesn't remember seeing her at the meeting.

It was a quiet, peaceful day on the outskirts of Ponyville. A gray mare was sleeping peacefully in her bed, snoring quietly. It was about an hour after sunrise, still early enough for the morning dew to be resting on the outside grass. However, there was nopony to observe this all, as the only occupant of the house was fast asleep. She rolled over, having a pleasant dream involving a day at the beach. Suddenly, there was a loud ringing sound echoing throughout the house. Silver, almost autonomously, was up in an instant and chucked her pillow at the wall. The pillow flew rather speedily towards the wall before bouncing harmlessly off it. Silver moaned as she lazily got out of bed and trudged towards the source of the ringing, her kitchen.

She walked into her kitchen, eyes half closed, and made her way to the large metallic alarm clock next to her fridge. A small bird was, every few seconds, popping out in perfect timing with the ringing. She casually walked towards it before spinning around and bucking it squarely in the center. She then held her back legs there and pushed into the alarm clock, causing a small pressure plate to activate. The alarm clock then ceased to ring.

Within the hour Silver had already found herself walking through the streets of ponyville carrying two rather large, empty saddlebags. She had, after some inspection, found that her storage of steel and copper was dangerously low, and needed to be replaced immediately to finish her current order. "Another day, another order.... God i need a day off." silver moaned to herself.

Eventually she found what she was looking for, a small market stall near the edge of the marketplace. A whitish stallion with a black mane was running the stall, advertising his product. Behind him were two large piles of unused metal and other supplies. Silver walked up to him and placed both her bags on the stall.

"How much will it cost me to fill em up with steel and copper today Steel?" she asked.

The stallion examined the saddlebags, noting their large size and took out a small notepad. He examined it a bit before turning back to Silver.

"Three hundred bits Miss Colt." he replied.

Silver sighed, he was trying to rip her off again.

"Steel, need i remind you who built this metal stall for you? and who requires a favor today because she is not only low on metal but low on bits? "she reminded him.

"...How much?" he asked

"Two thirty sounds fair, now load em up... i have the forge heating up already and i have to get home." she ordered.

Silver waited patiently as the Stallion loaded several copper and steel bricks into her saddlebags. Once he was done she took out a sack of bits and placed it on the table. She then took the saddlebags and placed them on her back, groaning a bit from the weight.

"Its all i got, Two thirty exactly... have a nice day Steel." she told him before trotting off. Before she was able to make much distance, however, she noticed a unicorn heading towards her. She put on her best fake smile and walked towards him.

"Hello sir, can i help you?" she inquired.

Blast Box got closer to the mare, hearing only parts of her order, but being able to put together the loads without the prices. Blast Box half-smiles as he watches the loading of the ingots into her saddle bags, knowing himself the estimated weight of the load, having hauled large loads himself before. A quick glance to the merchant pony receives a nod to Blast Box having shopped there many times. By then he has closed the gap between himself and the metal laden mare.

Greeted by a forced smile, Blast continues on unabated, "Good morning, miss..." He pauses for only a second or two as he offers a polite bow with his hardhat raising from his head quickly before landing back on it seamlessly. "I could not help but notice your peculiar purchase, not many ponies in this town have much of a need for large volumes of metal. Forgive me for prying, but what is it you plan to do with that load?"

Silver observed the newcomer as he approached. He was a unicorn stallion wearing a yellow hardhat. It didnt seem too uncommon to her that he was wearing protection while walking the streets of Ponyville. For all Silver knew, he could be a contractor in need of some metal parts, something she could whip up within a few days. It wouldnt be a problem for her, even though she was already overloading herself with as many contracts as she could take.

"Good morning sir." she replied.

Thankfully, he wasn't. It was just a random stallion who was curious as to the large amount of metal she had just ordered. At least, if he was somepony out looking to buy, he was being polite about it.

"Ah this? Just a few pieces of metal I'll be reshaping later. Why do you ask?"

Blast Box continues to scan and examine the mare before him considering the load she bought for himself, assuming she must be well versed in the use of it all. An amateur would have no use for that kind of a haul. He finds himself adopting a sly smile as he hears out her brief explanation.

"So, you work with metal? You must be rather busy with a sizable purchase like that, and skilled to be that busy." He pauses for a second or two as she finishes with her question. "You see, miss, the name is Blast Box. I work demolition around Ponyville, but there was recently a town meeting calling upon able-bodied ponies to help prepare this town for the worst case scenario... I saw a few workers there, but I do not remember seeing you. Were you aware such a meeting had taken place?"

Silver motioned for the stranger to walk and takl as she moved on. There was little time in way for useless chitter-chatter as she had work to do and money to earn. Small talk was just another way for her to get off track.

"Well yes, its my job and i think im quite good at it, but thats only my opinion." she replied.

A demolitions expert? Well that was something she had expected considering the large demolitions control box on his flank. Silver continued to listen to what he had to say, it wasnt everydy she got to meet somepony whos talent it was to blow things up.

He mentioned something about a meeting in the town hall. Silver remembered something like that occuring, but remembered that she had put off an order too long and had to rush to complete it, right on the day of the meeting. Frankly she didnt have much interest in such things, as her 'let nature take its course' way of seeing things would just mean that, whatever happened, happened.

"Good day to you Blast Box. Name's Silver Colt, pleased to meet you." she replied. "Yes i was aware of a meeting, but i was not aware of what it was for. I wanted to go to it and find out what its purpose was but i simply had too much to do." she lied.

Blast Box had figured someone making that kind of transaction had a lot to do with it. He didn't mind taking up a flank position so he can still speak with her as they moved. Blast Box himself was all too familiar with urgency to work while he was on a job site. At the same time she looks over him, he glances at her flank noticing her cutie mark being a hammer and anvil must signify her skills as a blacksmith.

The two of them begin walking carrying their respective loads, even though Blast neglected to make his own order for supplies, he felt that perhaps enlightening someone to the situation regarding Ponyville and the war might be more useful at the moment. At least, a pony boasting a skill as useful as a metal worker.

"Likewise Silver Colt. Though I am surprised you did not know the nature of the meeting, it was on all the postings as well as the town hall itself. But I suppose it is easy to lose track of things in the hustle and bustle for most of the ponies engrossed in their own duties..." Blast box looks straight ahead while walking next to Silver Colt as he begins a bit of an explanation of what the meeting was about.

"Well, to paraphrase everything that happened, there is a war going on. Ponyville has not seen any fighting, yet. My worries are that if fighting should come to this town, many ponies will not be prepared to defend their homes, or at the very least have an effective evacuation or escape plan. I have been trying to find and organize able-bodied ponies to alleviate these issues in the event Ponyville become a target."

He pauses speaking for a few moments in hopes that it sunk in the first time. After a few minutes, he finishes with a bit of a musing, "You know, a pony who can work metal could be a bit of a boon...."

Silver was silent after Blasts comment. She knew exactly where this conversation was going, and she didn’t like it. War wasn’t something to joke about, and Silver wanted no part in it, even if it was just organizing ponies for defense or building fortifications. Its not that she would be bad at it, quite the contrary... she had something most ponies here probably didn’t have, experience. She had seen gang fighting and war firsthoof in Equestria, something most ponies had never been exposed to. Silver knew what could happen during a war, and she didn’t want to get anywhere near another one.

"...And why would said metal expert, such as myself, be so valuable to somepony such as you?" she asked.

Blast Box could recognize the apprehension in her voice. Though he wasn't sure why there seemed to be many more ponies so self-centered in a time where unity and cooperation was needed. He was sure they all had reasons for not liking the war, but it seemed greater implications always evaded their grasp in the severity of the situation. However, it was more his concern to find those that did care about what was going on and cared about helping their fellow ponyfolk.

Taking the attitude in her voice in stride he responds with his usual inflection. "Well, even if you're unwilling to actively take part in the defense of the ponies here, even things as mundane as the metal shavings from your work will be of use. Such things make adequate shrapnel, if you can make things like caltrops to slow them down. Even plating to reinforce doors, gates, and tunnels. And that is only some of the things that can be done without being directly involved. Though, it is not about how valuable you are to ME, but how valuable you can be to your peers."

Silver was starting to get slightly annoyed by his persistence. This pony wasn't just trying to get her involved in something she despises, he seemed to be half begging her for it. She could only sight as a response and point out each little detail that he seemed to be forgetting.

"If gryphons invade, caltrops are useless and easily a hinderence if we have an army stationed here if places improperly. Reinforced doors will do nothing against a zebras magic or the diamond dog's artillery... Not to mention the amount of work it takes to properly reinforce a single door. Then we have metal scraps... That, is the only non-terrible idea I have heard today no offense." she told him.

"... And yet tell me one thing, why would I be friendly or even helpful to a group of ponies that have frankly ignored by for my entire stay in this town? Hmmm? I do everything they ask of me, repair anything they need even if I have to do it for free, and yet almost every time I do something kind for them, they simply walk away and never have to look at a pathetic pony such as myself.... " she told him.

"If I were going to make anything for anypony in this town, it would be for myself. "

Though Blast Box was far from begging, he was realizing he was not dealing with a pony capable of lateral thinking. At least at the moment she was taking him very literally. Blast patiently listens to the issues from the mare noting that she has the complete wrong idea of what he is trying to accomplish, and he is close to writing her off as not being any use to his quest.

He sighs shaking his head, "No one has any intention of fighting a war in the open here. I'm only looking for ways to help ponies get out safely and to slow an invasion down and make evacuations more efficient. We're civilians, not soldiers or murderers. So calm down already."

He stops in his tracks as he prepares to issue one last statement. "If you're this bothered by a single pony asking for your assistance, your head would explode if they all tried to talk to you and hounded for your labor all the time. A pony with your skills is far from pathetic, perhaps not appreciated as much as you'd like by ponies that don't understand the talent you have... But certainly not pathetic. Besides, no one said you wouldn't get paid."

Silver considered his words before replying. This was no ordinary workingpony, that much she could tell. Best to keep him interested for now and hint at possible assistance in order to see what he really wanted.

"Try not appreciated whatsoever. I make half the things in town move and have never recieved a single complement for it. Do I care? yes, clearly... because it kinda sucks when nopony ever respects you for your work nor admires it. I dont ask for much... believe me... im even considering helping you for no cost, but thats for other reasons... Besides, yhis town is a LOT better than going back to fillidelphia." she told him as they walked.

"...and of course youre not gong to fight, after all we're just engineers ya?"

Bast Box rolls his eyes with a small tilt of his head at her response, a small smirk appearing at the same time. Reluctantly he decides to once again continue alongside Silver Colt. "If you were not appreciated whatsoever, you wouldn't have enough work around here to keep yourself in business. Fact is, miss... When you do things right, folks won't be sure you've done anything at all."

He continues along side her, "Personally I believe this town is brilliant, such a beautiful town with good ponies with a tight and warm community. I've lived in Trottingham and Manehatten in my day, this place is certainly a different speed, but I like it... Certainly enough to see that it doesn't fall the same fate as Trottingham." He pauses for a moment and exhales audibly at her question before answering.

"I'm a worker miss, usually means we're the first ones to be expected to fight for our little hoof-full of dirt. I'd rather not have to, but I am willing to if such the situation presents itself. I'd rather there be no deaths in all of this."

Silver paused for a moment before replying. He did have a good point, this town was in fact the only real place she ever liked. Filidelphia was a terrible place if you lived in the wrong areas, something Silver knew all too well.

"Yeah... It would be a shame if this town fell. " she replied somewhat softly.

Blast nods, "I happen to agree, but you seem like a sharp pony one that knows the true cost of war and strife. I'd rather these innocent ponies not have to pick up the check for a war that isn't theirs. But I need help seeing that they don't lose everything, at least lose more than they may have already, your skills are that useful, and if you're interested there is a spot close to the Everfree Forest, not far from the animal caretaker's cottage that I am gathering other like-minded ponies to help. If you would like to consider helping, make it there at first light in a couple of days." He looks at her with a half-hearted smile, it was hard for him to smile at much in recent days, he's had the town's safety on his mind, as well as worries of the limits of his power in the face of the opposition.
