Starry was saddened by her failure... and now even more so that arpeggio had mentioned pie. She had never had it before, never tasted something like that, and in turn had never heard of the expression before.
"b..but i cant fail... i...i just cant... and whats pie?"

Arpi sighed lightly. "Alright... I'll put this as gently as I can. I suggest you do away with that mindset as soon as you can. Otherwise, you're gonna have a lot of difficulty in life. You're not going to get everything first try. Plain and simple. Life just doesn't work like that."
He raised an eyebrow. "Pie is a baked good. It's quite good. Easy as pie is an expression meaning that something isn't hard to do. Is it really that hard to learn from mistakes?"

"huh... so thats what it is... "starry whispered to herself.
"But its not like that... i...im supposed to be good at everything i try... i gotta be good at it for the ponies i do it for, in this case...you. I failed not only myself but i failed you..." she told him.
"...and it hurts when i fail others. I dont care if i fail at the first try... i care if i fail other ponies..."

"Um... you didn't fail me." He raised an eyebrow. "Not even close. I mean, for goodness' sake, you did far better than I expected you to. The only way you could've even remotely come close to 'failing' me was if you gave up, and what you did is hardly that."

Starry remained silent after that. Not failed him? h..how is this possible??!!? she thought to herself as she lay there... injured upon his couch. It didnt make sense to her. How did sh not fail him when she had clearly failed to reach the edge of his roof? Was this some kind of joke?
"I...dont get it... of course i didnt give up...i just cant... but i dont get how i didnt fail you though. It maes no sense to me..." she told him.

"...Oh, you silly filly." He sighed a bit. "Just because you didn't succeed doesn't mean you failed. Considering you made leaps and bounds in improvement from where you started, I'd say you had quite the success. You certainly improved faster than I did when I was a colt."
He smiled. "You just rest, okay?"

"mhm..." was her only reply.
Starry positioned herself so she would be comfortable on his couch, then proceeded to try adn fall asleep. She was tired... tired from trying and.. not failing at a goal she had given herself. Arpeggio's logic still fonsided her. Was there something other tahn sucess and failure? maybe... but she didnt know, she was too tired anyways. Stary slowly fell asleep on Arpeggio's couch.
Fenny, however, had other ideas of what to do. He moved deeper into Arpeggio's mane, locking himself in and not getting out anytime soon.

The pegasus sighed lightly, draping a light blanket over the young filly's body with a smile; the pegasus then went down a hall, opening a door and going down the stairs behind it to the basement... where he sat down at the piano down there and began softly playing a tune.

Now was his chance, Fenny was about to jump off his mane in search of kibbles, but something stopped him. His host, Arpeggio, had begun making some sort of sound out of a large piano. This was entirely foreign to the ancient phoenix and he was intruiged by the sound it made. Instead of hopping down and flying off he hopped onto the floor and began moving in tune with the piano music.

The pegasus giggled a bit at Fenny's motion, playing a lilting and bouncy tune, his feathers and wings plinking chords lightly, a jaunty little tune coming from the piano, the pegasus singing a wordless tune to go with it.

Fenny now danced happily to the tune of the piano, creating a new dance just based off of how the music was affected him. He jumped onto the piano and continued damcing to the tune of the music. The phoenix didnt know what this feeling was, but he enjoyed it nonetheless.

The pegasus laughed a bit, before moving from just messing around to playing a proper song. He decided a nice little jaunty rag would do. He began playing the Maple Leaf Rag on the piano, giggling as he did so, interested to see how the bird would respond.
(The version of the song he is playing)

Fenny noticed the change in the pace of Arpeggio's music and his movements sped up to match them. Instead of merely swaying to the tune he was now fully dancing to it, though his movements were sloppy and he fell a few times. He didn't mind though, he was enjoying himself.

The pegasus giggled, suppressing all-out laughter because he didn't want to disturb Starry upstairs. He continued to play various songs for the phoenix, watching him dancing.

The bird kept in tune with each dance, constantly changing his movements to match the song. It was wonderfull, whatever was happening to him, and he let the music flow through him as he danced.
