Dawn to Dusk got it's name from a unicorn starwatcher long ago, who noted that most stars, including Celestia's sun, could be seen at both dawn and dusk. The guild started early on as a place where astrologists could come together, form star charts, share theories and often times contemplate legend and stories of an ancient nature.
There came a point that they became so engulfed in theories of ancient lore that they were labeled heretics against Celestia's rule and soon hunted down for sport. It took the help of mercenaries to keep the few remaining guild members alive. Mercenaries who also became curious about the astrologist's studies and soon became intrigued by the study of the stars as well.
Later records indicate the guild making a comeback. This time, with the assistance of warriors who had joined for the pure love of the stars. The guild grew and soon became much too large to be dealt with by conventional means. But the ponies of Equestria wanted them gone, saying that there was no room for heretics within their land.
After much grief and with resent towards their pony brethren, the receded into an area of equestria not yet populated and established a homefront where they continued to learn more and more about the stars. After years and years of research, the guild knew practically every legend, song, story, theory and idiom there was about stars.
They were able to piece all of that information into what could be considered a book of worship. At this point, they believed that every living thing was created from stars and began to treat them as idols, giving them names, forming constellations and even the beginnings of the first recorded prayers to the stars.
This is how they came to be known as The Disciples of the Stars. As they truly believed that they were created, and granted wisdom by the ancient lights in the sky. It was soon after this that they started researching other forms of knowledge, related or not to stars.
Knights of the guild were tasked with protecting the guildsmen as they had been tasked so many years ago. The Guild Master also charged the inhabitants of the homefront, which was now a large city known as Orion's Haven, to share the knowledge they had to the inhabitants of the whole continent.
It is worth noting that the City of Orion's Haven is built into the side of a mountain(Unlike canterlot, which is built ONTO the side of a mountain)
In this modern day, Orion's Haven has opened it's gates to visitors. However it is still seen as a taboo to visit, or to practice their religious tendencies.
(This may or may not need work)
