Aevia left a note for Amber before leaving the house on her long trek to the Monastery in the Tramplevanian mountains. It read:
Hey Amber, going to the Monastary. Be back in a week or so. ~Aevia

Aevia had been traveling for two days straight with Ziah. She always loved exploring the outdoors and the views from the mountain tops. She danced along the trees and swung on the vines.

The sun was setting and finally she saw the Monastery, in all its glory. She waited in the near by cave, in which she built a fire to keep warm, waiting for her friend

It had been a hard day of practice for Liam, his normal collection of dirt from the training grounds of the monastery much greater than that of other monks who had executed the various katas with their weapons of choice. He walked in a line with the other monks as they all crossed under a small waterfall on their way back to the monastery, each taking a moment to stand under it and shake themselves clean under the fresh mountain water. Liam went last and took the longest and lagged behind the group as they continued on at individual efforts. When he had arrived at the monastery it was only for a moment to affix a pair of saddlebags filled with food. He had left his personal room in the monastery in a very neat fashion with nothing out of place but a small letter left unopened on his bed. Beyond that there were was no exchange of words nor conversation as he left the sacred place behind casually. He had taken a small trail that would lead off the side of the mountain and across a few rope bridges towards his destination.

His travels in the evening of the day were at a steady trot and the common steeled, distant look upon his face remained in place as he carried on. He had paid little attention to his surroundings, them having been so routine and ordinary for him. He kept the occasional eye out for anything new, noting only how the few trees that managed to grow at such height were beginning to grow leaves once more, doing away with the winter appearance. It was not a long journey before he was near his destination, a cave just down the mountain he was currently upon which had a slight glow in contrast to the colors of the sunset. He was promptly entering the cave to find his good friend sitting there with the staff she always kept on her. "Aevia. It is good to greet you once more. How have your travels been?" he asked her in his gruff but friendly voice.

Her ears twitched hearing a familiar voice, one she hadn't head since she fled the monastery a few months ago. Ziah flew over to 'hug' Liam, on to dance around him, making circles around his tanned coat, brushing through his tail a few times.

Aevia stood up, stretched herself. "Travel has been uneventful." she noted, walking over to him and gave him a nuzzle. Her coat brushing against his coat made her feel at home for a strange reason.

While at the monastery Liam was one of Aevia's very few friends and she had developed a slight crush on him; however, it was quickly ended as she proceeded deeply into her studies and training with her Master.

"H-how have you been?" she asked, stepping back to the fire. "I see you are still playing with those silly rings." she teased him. Ziah joined Aevia next to the fire.

"Haha good evening Ziah. It is good to greet you once more." he stated with a bow of his head to the staff. "Uneventful travel bears the blessing of peaceful travel." Liam stated quietly as he returned her nuzzle. He held there for what seemed like just a second longer with his eyes closed. She was the one pony he truly found solace within and it had been far too long since he had seen her.

He soon set his saddlebags down and moved to sit beside her by the fire. He chuckled slightly at her comment on his chakrams. "I have been well. Life at the monastery continues on as before, though it seems to have much less within it. Tales of war to the west and pirates at sea... It seems to be the better option for home. Such misfortune has eluded us all, though I stand ready. With my silly rings." he stated with a smirk at his comment on his chakram. With a harsh flick of his hoof, one of the rings broke loose and sailed like a high-speed frisbee into the cave wall, bouncing around twice for darting back towards Liam. With a deft and quick stomp onto the ring just before it hit him, the ring had returned to its place before on his front leg.

"I've been playing with them often. Though I hold doubt that they're any as fun as Ziah." he stated with a smile towards the staff. He paused for a moment to look at the fire, though before Aevia could respond he spoke once more. "Come back to the monastery, Aevia. Your presence is wanted there once more. I've since consoled any voice of protest to your return. Your bed remains warm and awaits you still." he told her. He had used whatever respect he had left at the monastery to defend her against the other monks who spoke out against her running away. Some had voiced happiness that she was gone and that her trial was never complete, even that she was cowardly for backing out of it. Those of the monastery now knew better than to make such views public as he was one of the more intimidating of masters there. He had also taken great lengths to have her room remain open and ready for her return, though it had been long since anypony but he had entered inside.

"Master Roiku misses you greatly." he said solemnly. It almost seemed like there was more to the story that he was not telling her immediately.

The Unoffical master, rested her head on Liam's thigh, nuzzling his brownish pelt. "mmmm.... I see the news of war has reached even here?... That saddens me..." closing her eyes.

"You never dabbled with Auras..have you? Have you named your Chakrams?" her ears flicked up at the sound of his silly ring being thrown.

"Hmmm I figured as much; how-" she paused in her speech, Ziah poked her while resting his Aevia's grasp. "However, I have duties that lie elsewhere...in the war." She nuzzled his pelt again.

"I..I cannot go back nor can I deny that I miss the monastery, Master Roiku, Yi-ong and the plentiful of monks studying and training... but I can't go back and stay." She decided to change the subject sort of. "So how is your search for becoming a Master coming along?" She shifted her head to look up at him, holding onto Ziah.

Liam simply shook his head in response to her questions of auras or naming his chakrams. Concern on his face became apparent when she mentioned her having duties in the war. When she told him that she would not return to the monastery he simply placed his head over her shoulder and laid it there for a moment. He gave a slow sigh before talking once more. “I will not press further on the subject, I understand you’ve made choices of your own.” he stated, still keeping with the previous subject. It was normally hard to sway his focus, even if it was some as polite as changing the topic.

He lifted his head and looked upon Aevia with what seemed like a smirk in response to her question. “I’ve since lost my zeal to become a Master. However I maintain the faith that someday I will overcome all obstacles in my way to become one. I must remain patient and ready for what those obstacles may be.” he stated. He was always one to handle situations his own way and took everypony’s opinion with a grain of salt. The Masters had stated, even since before Aevia left, that he had the potential to become a Master but withheld battles that he alone must face to truly know peace first. While Liam openly voiced his confusion and frustration with this judgment, he now simply accepted it as an unfinished riddle.

“You said you had duties in the war? How are you involved?” Liam asked as the already faded smirk he had disappeared.

Aevia looked at Liam with surprise. "you....what?" her smile faded and her ears fell backwards. "Do you what could have caused it?" She asked with concern. "I know you'll become a master one day, but maybe the cosmos have different plans for you before that."

She sighed as he brought up the subject she tried to get away from. "Yes... I have... I cannot tell you nor anyone. I actually shouldn't have told you anything. But just know that it is for the greater good of all...." She felt silent looking down at his coat, soon she yawned.

"I guess I got too used to the normal level plains and rolling small hills of Equestria, because I am beat. I think I'm gonna go to sleep, Liam." The fire flickered against the cave walls, spreading warmth. She nuzzled into his brown coat

Liam simply shrugged and gave a short sigh when Aevia asked her question. He himself was naturally carefree and held onto motivation and zeal loosely. The lack of his title of Master was something that ranked low on his list of worries.

Liam’s ears seemed to move back as he frowned upon Aevia’s answer to his question of her involvement in the war. There was little that Liam believed Aevia would not tell him. He concluded that if it was important enough to keep anypony from knowing then he would just have to leave it at that. He trusted her and if she so sought to handle her own tasks herself then that was her decision. He took a moment to accept that that truth but did so with a nod and small smile.

He returned her nuzzle in kind and then nodded. “It has been a long day for myself as well. Rest seems like the best idea for now.” he said. He finally laid down completely, beside Aevia to nuzzled her once more. “It’s good to be with you once more Aevia.” he said with his eyes closed.

-The next morning-

Aevia got up and stretched her back, smiling seeing that Liam was always a slightly heavier sleeper, still asleep and snoring. The fire had died out, leaving a smokey scent in the cave.

The red monk began to meditate, Ziah at her side, waiting for Liam to wake up and start their day.

Liam had stayed in the world of the subconscious longer than Aevia, but only for a few moments longer. He was slow to ever move after awaking, his actions always cautious until he had his complete bearings once more. His body had seemed to notice the lack of the warm body that had kept him from most of the chilly night, beginning to wake Liam once Aevia had left. He had done his best to try and remember the fleeting memories of the dream he had been having. Once he failed in that endeavor he began to carefully listen to the area around him and open his eyes slowly. The room smelled of long since burnt wood and the fresh mountain air, both good scents to him. He heard nothing and looked through blurry eyes to see that he was still in the cave.

He stood up moments later once his vision returned and stretched. He had gotten better sleep than most last night, despite having slept on a cave floor. He noticed that Aevia was meditating and Ziah had joined her. With a quiet approach Liam moved to stand beside her and do the same thing. It was not long before he felt at ease from the mental exercise. "I greet you this morning, Aevia." he spoke, saying a common greeting from the monastery, akin to saying good morning.

Felt Laim wake up and join her; however, she and Ziah had to 'reconnect' themselves and check everything was working. The two stayed meditating for a bit longer than Liam did.

Soon, Aevia pushed her hooved forward in front of her, letting the rest of her body follow until she lay flat against the floor of the cave, stretching. "and I, you" said simply. She 'hmmmmmed' softly, her eyes still closed, enjoying the cool surface and feeling the concentrated auras around her.

"Have a good nigh's sleep?"

Liam shifted his stance to be similar to Aevia's, a slow stretch relaxing his awaking muscles. He leaned slightly towards and rubbed his shoulder against hers, adding in a short nuzzle before moving back a bit. "I did, remarkably. And the same for you I trust? I hope the mountains have been kind to you still." he stated. After giving each ligament a solid stretch he sat down and adjusted the various rings on his his legs and made sure they were all in place. He had grown accustomed to wearing them without harming himself and were about as much a part of him as the hair on his skin. "Have you any plans while you are here, Aevia?" he asked her with a smile.

Giggled and leaned against him, shoulder to shoulder. "mmm yes, the mysticism of the monastery always gives me a good sleep and recharges me. It is so much different at where is Preside now. There are mountains but only in the distance, it has rolling hills and farms and the forest no one dares to go in there. Its silly but the ponies that live there are simple folk."

She noticed the tinkling of his rings. "I've always wondered how you can wear those and not cut yourself. Plans? hmm...I guess I've just missed this place, maybe a spar? I haven't had a good chance to spar with somepony in quite a while."

Liam smirked at Aevia's suggestion, the devious half-smile implying his playful intentions. He shuffled his stance slightly to make the rings clink together. "If a spar you seek then I shall provide. But forgive me if I go easy; it requires a skilled touch to encounter these rings unharmed. I have such skill, though I am not certain you do." Liam boasted, almost jokingly. He finished his sentence with a gentle shove to Aevia's shoulder. He stepped away a small distance before turning to face Aevia. He kept the devious grin and dropped his stance low, ready for Aevia's next action. "On your move." he stated.

Aevia held her ground against his shove and grinned, "I'll have you know that I did try my hoof at those things and did decently on both attacking and receviing end. Never did like the kill or not and hit or miss mentaility they have." She smiled leaning down, waiting for Liam to ready himself.

Once he was in position, she dashed onto the cave wall jumping at Liam, while bringing
Ziah sweeping at his hooves.
