Sitting outside on the porch of the mansion, Mono sighed deeply. It wasn't a annoyed or even iritated sigh, more of a vunerable one. It was true in this case that the colt was in a deep sadness, but not for reasons he would be thought of having.
Ever since Mono was adopted, he couldn't help but feel.....troubled, like he didn't belong in with any of the other ponies in the whole house. It was wierd, this wasn't a normal feeling for him. Even when a complete jerk, Mono still felt comfotable, whereas here....it was replaced with uneasiness.
Maybe it was the fact that being cared for the first time was not something he was used to, and it felt strange to him. Nevertheless....he wasn't having a good time right now, and this allowed him to possibly do something to ruin his image. Pulling out his teddy bear, a gift that he got from Blade before he went to war, Mono whispered to it, saying, "I know C.C.W, Celestia's sun is rather nice today.....and I'm glad to talk to you again my friend." He said smiling, petting the bear before speaking, "Do you suppose Blade is looking at it too? I hope he is. It would remind him what he is fighting for. The ponies of Equestria, The Celestial Sisters...." He paused and his expression was sad, before hugging the plush, "and me."

Arael wandered through the house to just check on things. She liked to make sure that things were secure and keep order whenever she could. Patrolling gave her a sense of security, knowing firsthand that everything was secure. Especially since she'd heard that the lines had been pushed back. Equestria was really being pushed passed it's limits in this war. But she was sure she could do her part if need be.
She rounded the edge of the building and saw Mono, her adopted colt, and... Was that a teddy bear? Mono never brought out his bear in public, always saying it would "ruin his image" or something. So then... Clearly something had happened to change this. She walked up to him.
"Hey." She greeted "You alright?"

To mono's awareness, Arael had no idea he had the Commodore at all, so when he heard her voice, he eeped and hid the bear the only way he could....by hugging it close to his body. He was in a state of panic at this point, as he didn't want his adopted mother knowing of his secret, and because he was scared of revealing his sensitive side to her still.
With a studdering voice, he quietly said "n-nothing mommy.....I'm.....fine.", flashing her an uneasy smile thay did little to hide his true thoughts.

Arael Raised a brow at the colt. Yep, something was definitely wrong. "Are you suuuuure?" She prodded. "There's nothing at all wrong in the entire wide world of Equestria?" Mono had to know by now that he had a terrible poker face that she could see through a mile away. And Arael was VERY good at reading ponies.

Thinking it over a moment.with a scared expression, mono sighed and look at the stuffy clung to his chest. He was still scared to admit that he was actually scared, and he was worried Arael would laugh at him. But he needed the help he realized through the beady eyes of cuddlesworth, the telltale sign of the imprint of his conscience inside the teddy bear.
He looked back at Arael, clearly more relaxed, but still vert sad and pitiful. In the same quiet voice, that sounded almost as a whiny tone, he said "no.....every thing is not fine. I'm....I'm scared mommy.

"Oh?" She sat next to Mono and wrapped a wing around him comfortingly. "Whatever of?" She asked, a bit surprised, but then again, not really. Mono was still young and vulnerable to common fears of the world. "Go on, tell me about it."

Mono leaned into Arael as he always did when he was upset, still clinging the bear to his chest in a desperate bid to keep it hidden. The wing wrapping around him was a reassuring sign for him too, because Arael only did that when she was being serious. Looking at the.ground the colt thought of what to say to here. What could he say? Could he tell her about his exclusion from the rest of the house? The pains of having to be adopted, the anxiety that his best friend might not.come back?
He wasn't sure, but he did know she had to know something more about him for his and her benefit. Their bond was strong, but it still was shaky in some parts for them. So with his deepest of sighs, and most sad tone, he said "I'm not.....like the other ponies here. I don't like I.......belong."
At this point he was starting to get even more scared, and he hugged her and the.stuffy in his arms together, needing thr embrace of both of them to continue. "I'm scared mommy, scared nopony likes me, and that makes me sad."

"Mono." Arael said with a chuckle. "What a rediculous notion. Of course you're liked. Everyone here likes you." Insecurity in children was something that the warrior knight had to deal with before. Not only in other children, but it was also a personal battle that she's faught a long time ago.
"What would possibly make you think such a thing?" she asked, deciding to go straight to the heart of the problem.

"Well....." Mono said with hesitation in his voice, stroking his teddy bear,"I.......just don't act like ever other pony." He was worried about other ponies judging him, AMD that's how he felt all the time. If he screwed up with something, it would usually take a few days for him to recover from a scolding, because it was done in front of others.
He sniffled a bit, burrowing his head deeper into Arael chest, and saying "I don't understand! Why do I have to be around them all when I'm bad? It's scary!"

Arael rubbed Mono's back. "Mono, you don't have to act like the other ponies." She said comfortingly. "It's good to be different. Being different doesn't mean you're bad."
She let go of Mono and stood in front of him. "Don't you think it would be boring if everypony was exactly the same?"

Mono looked up at the pegasus he called his mother and thought about what she said. It hadn't occured to him that being different wasn't the problem, as he always assumed that was the reason why. It was interesting to say the least to him, and it gave him reassurance.
He looked up at her and smiled, the teddy bear still clung to his chest. Nodding and responding with a "Mhm..." he continued to smile...until he remembered the bear was still in his possession. and she could fully see it. With an audible gasp, he looked fearfully at Arael, clutching the toy closer in a attempt to hide it once again.

Arael rustled Mono's mane with a laugh. "You don't have to hide it. I won't tell anypony." She said. She knew how he felt about his "image". Wouldn't want to ruin his self esteem. "Just don't be afraid to be who you are. Ok?"

Mono looked away in shame at her attempt to play down what he considered embarrassing. As he contemplated running, she started speaking words that reassured him. Words that made him smile and sniffle happily. It was great to have another pony that he finally could trust with his secrets.
Mono got up and looked up at her with more hope in his eyes than when they first met. It was obvious that this was something crucially important to him. "Promise?" He said with a hint of said hope, as he wanted to trust Arael completely.

"I promise." Arael responded. "Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." She made the motions of the 'cupcake swear' as she knew it called.
