It had been close to a week since the Mane 6 had returned home to Ponyville. Close to a week since Applejack had invited all of her friends to attend a Rodeo she was going to compete at in Canterlot...
Close to a week since Rainbow had that amazing date with none-other then Soarin' of the Wonderbolts.
She had settled back into her usual routine upon coming back to Ponyville. Weather Pony duties still came quite easily for her, and practicing her stunt flying was still a must between visiting with her friends. However, when she wasn't doing any of those things, she often found herself keeping an eye open for Ditzy to come by her house and drop off her mail.
Usually it was the same old thing; a bill or two, junk mail, magazines from Canterlot, The Wonderbolt Weekly, some comics she was subscribed to... But every now and again, she often felt a smile cross her face when she came across that one rare gem in her mail. While she was looking for one specific thing, what she got on top of everything was just as great.
It was a letter from Scootaloo.
As Rainbow recalled, Scootaloo, a young Pegasus filly she had taken under her wing to teach how to fly 6 years ago, had grown up quite nicely between the good old days and the present day. It had filled the Rainbow mare with a sense of pride and accomplishment when she watched that awkward little filly with barely any flying ability to her name, became an agile and strong flier capable of almost keeping up with Rainbow herself. When Rainbow saw this letter, she merely grabbed the rest of her mail, deciding to look at it later, and went back inside her house.
When she opened her letter, she immediately chuckled when she came to learn that Scoots was doing great at Flight School and was getting really eager about a flight meet that was only 2 months away. Of course she was considering competing and she was getting really antsy about the whole thing, and had to let Rainbow herself know what was going on. Not that the Rainbow maned mare minded in the least. It was always great hearing from Scootaloo and seeing how she was doing these days. When the letter reached it's end (Which took a bit since it was two pages long; heh, same energetic Scootaloo), she found that usual line, 'Hope to hear from you soon! You're Number 1 Student; Scoots', and put the letter down.
She would definitely have to write again sometime. Scootaloo would have LOVED to hear about recent events.
When she did she started sorting through her mail, tossing away the junk and putting away the magazines-
......... What on-?
She looked again, and realized that there was another letter amongst the pile of mail. Likely Rainbow had missed it when she found Scootaloo's letter and just brought the rest back inside her house.
She hoofed the letter closer and took a look at who had sent it.
.........
She did her best to hold in a panicked but joyful squeal, after all, she was NOT that kind of pony...
The letter was from Soarin'.
[I have a good plan about how to do this, We'll let Arpy respond next with what the letter says, and then from there we'll have a few turns with Rainbow and Twilight. Sound good gentlemen?]

The letter read like this, with surprisingly neat hoofwriting.
Rainbow,
Hey! How've you been doing, Dashie? Things have been kinda hectic as of late with the 'Bolts, but we finished our latest show in Canterlot the other day; I've got the next few days free so I decided to come down; by the time you get this I'll probably be on the train down to Ponyville. I hope it's not too short-notice, but I really wanted to see you again.
With love,
Soarin'
There was a little winged heart drawn at the bottom of the letter as well, and while it was hardly high art, Soarin' had given effort into drawing it. Said light-blue stallion was currently kicked back and taking a nap as the train had left the Canterlot station.

The second Rainbow finished reading the letter she was instantly close to freaking out. Not really the bad kind of freaking out though mind you. She smiled quite a bit upon seeing how Soarin' wrote the letter, and it was just a joy seeing it. He wanted to see her again! OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH.
......... She quickly opened her eyes again however when she quickly realized something important. OH JEEZE!! HE'S COMING TO PONYVILLE!!!
---------------------------------
It took Rainbow Dash a few minutes to straighten up her house, and while she kept a bit of her Wonderbolts merc hanging around, she had put up the vast majority of it in her closet... With the deepest amount of care of course.
When all that was done, she quickly left her house and headed for the Train Station. She'd need to be there when Soarin' arrived so she could show him around. As she quickly flew to the train station however, she didn't really make her flight there subtle; curse her lack of fore-thought on that.
As such, it was relatively easy for a certain other pony to see her rainbow vapor trail and follow it to Rainbow's destination.

Twilight lay across the floor of the balcony of her home, also known as the Ponyville Library, with a book propped up in front of her. Greater Problems and Solutions of the Magic Wielding Individual: A Commentary on the Life and Times of the Unicorn Populace, more colloquially known as "We Might have Magic, but Life is Still Hard", a classic by Great Fortune, who was also known as one of the least fortunate ponies in the history of Equestria. It detailed the various problems that Unicorns have to deal with that other ponies just didn't have to worry about. Mana Migraines, Hornaches, Mana Depletion, Energy Consumption, Null Magic Fields, Magic Overdose, and a few other things that Twilight was pretty sure were just made up at this point in her life.
"I honestly don't understand why this guy thought his life was so bad," Twilight said as she closed the thin volume and looked toward Fluttershy who was reading the romance novel she had checked out not too long ago. Bright Lights, Brighter Eyes, a classic tale of love and loss that took place in a nameless city that many enthusiasts believe is an author's representation of Trottingham just a few hundred years before modern times. "He was a famous author even during his lifetime and his spouse and children all outlived him. Maybe there was something else to him, some sort of insane depression that created sadness where happiness should be. It's too bad that there aren't any more history books that mention Great Fortune, he was a fascinating individual.
"But that doesn't really matter," she said as she smiled at Fluttershy who seemed to be enjoying her novel, "I'm more interested in what's been going on between you and Applejack. Have you two at least kissed yet?" She said, questioning her friend, a sly grin on her face as she tried to pry some information out of her friend.
A few moments after that, Twilight noticed a streak of rainbow cut its way through the sky heading towards the train station. She turned back towards Fluttershy, "She looks like she's in a hurry," she said as she got up, "Which means that we're going to follow her and figure out what she's in such a hurry about," Twilight said as she rushed downstairs, a smile on her face and her eyes opened wide with anticipation of what they were going to find at the train station. She opened the door to the library and held it open for Fluttershy before following her friend out and locking the door behind her, "Come on," she said as she started running, "We've got some ground to cover."

Fluttershy allowed herself to get lost in her tome on Twilight's balcony, lost in her own little world, as she was sure Twilight was. It was an extremely guilty pleasure of hers to read romance novels: in fact, she only ever really enjoyed them if they were as cheesy as Pinkie's flavor-blasted nachos. It was hard to say why: but in a way, it was almost like getting lost in a fantasy world. Plus, she sometimes got some fun, if not silly, ideas of things to do with Applejack.
She was broken out of her small trance as Twilight spoke up, obviously ranting about the book she was reading. It didn't bother Fluttershy that she had a tendency to do that: it was fun discussing things like this. "That's true, yes... But still, there's so many other factors that could come into play to cause somepony to act like that... Especially when we know so little about him..."
Twilight seemed rather eager to talk about someoony else though, and as the bookworm's confidence grew, hers decreased. Twilight knew how timid she got when talking about Appleshy, and that was ovious from her rather sly smile. Fluttershy let out typical shade of blush; looking down at her book as if to avoid looking at her. "W-well, um, I don't think-"
She breathed a sigh of relief as the sound of Rainbow flying by distracted Twilight from their... 'discussion', but Twilight was right in noticing she seemed to be in a hurry... Even by Rainbow's standards. Her ears flopped down as Twilight blatantly stated they were going to investigate. She could never have a nice, boring day, could she?
Sighing without a word of complaint, she placed a bookmark on the page she was on and followed Twilight out the door to her tree. Wherever Rainbow was, she went pretty far out... To the edge of town, practically. And considering the direcion she was going in, all signs pointed to the train station. But why there...?
As the duo made their way to the station, Fluttershy looked around carefully for any sign of their nimble friend. "Do you see her anywhere...?" she asked Twilight, staying close to her to ensure she didn't get lost in the crowd.

The second Rainbow arrived at the Train Station, the first place she hit up was the 'Arrival and Departure' board to learn when the next train could be coming. Sure enough, a train was coming in from Canterlot and it would be arriving within the hour. Lucky her; she had gotten here way early...
Still if she left now to pass time with stunt flying, she would have likely lost all track of time. So she would need to stick out waiting for the train for however long it was going to take. She was going to have to... UGH... Be PATIENT and... BLECK GAG HER, SIT DOWN AND WAIT for the train to show up....
.........................
Sweet Celestia she wasn't looking forward to the wait.
She quickly sat herself down on a bench and proceeded to look out onto the horizon where the train tracks led out to Canterlot... She would be lying if she said she wasn't trying to will the train to go faster so she could cut down the time on her wait.
Still, despite the time she would have to spend waiting, she was still looking forward to Soarin's arrival. It promised to be a really fun time.

Twilight started looking around the train station for any sign of Rainbow. She was checking all the places that she imagined Rainbow would be at the station. On the overhang, the roof, in the clouds above, leaning against a pillar to try to look cool or something like that, and next to the vending machines, pounding away at it to try and get the snack that was so rightfully hers. Sadly, she didn't see Dash at any of those places, so it was time to start looking in all the places that she didn't expect the usually overactive Pegasus to be.
Twilight looked towards the benches near the tracks and her eyes opened wide when she saw her friend just sitting there, waiting, like a normal pony who could actually sit still for more than five minutes. Twilight walked over to Rainbow with Fluttershy in tow and sat down next to the cyan Pegasus, "So," she said a she turned towards Dash, "What brings you to the train station this fine day, Rainbow? You heading out of town, or are you waiting on someone?"

Fluttershy quietly followed Twilight around the station, glancing around for Rainbow while also making sure to keep track of Twilight. She had no idea what would compell a pony like Rainbow to come and hang around a train station of all things, and considering they didn't seem to be having much luck finding her, she began to wonder if she was even really here to begin with. Perhaps she flew past it and into the outskirts for some reason...
And yet somehow, they managed to find her... sitting on a bench. Casually. Fluttershy glanced over to Twilight, who seemed to have a similar confused demeter to that of her own. Cautiously, she followed Twilight to the bench and sat on the other side of Rainbow, not speaking a word since Twilight pretty much asked every question she would have.

Rainbow's reaction to Twilight's question was.... Surprise actually. "GACK!! Twilight!" When she turned to look at the unicorn, she quickly noticed Fluttershy as well. Needless to say Rainbow now appeared a fair bit mortified. "Wh-what am I doing here, what are you guys doing here?!"
She looked around a bit, thinking back to what could have clued anyone in on her visiting the Train Station....... It then occurred to her that her earlier rainbow trail might have had something to do with it... MAAAAAAN, this was just embarrassing.

Twilight giggled at Rainbow's reaction to the revealing of their presence at the train station. She seemed flustered which, while it may not have been the first time she had seen her rainbow maned friend like this, it was certainly of the very rare occurrences that she would get like this. She smiled as she looked down the train tracks that led towards Ponyville from Canterlot, the direction the train would most likely be coming carrying whoever Dash was waiting for.
"Well," she said listlessly as she stared down the tracks, "We were just following you. I mean, you looked like you were in quite the hurry, even for you, so it must be something very important that you're going to. So, with that information in mind, me and Fluttershy decided to follow you over here to see what was going on. Well, in reality I was the one who decided to follow you and Flutters just decided to tag along, I think that she would much rather be back at the Library reading her novel," she said with a giggle as she turned towards Fluttershy and nodded almost as if to say thank you for coming with her.

As Twilight spoke up about them following Rainbow's trail, Fluttershy lowered her eyes to the ground almost shamefully as Twilight mentioned she would probably rather be back at the Library right now. It wasn't exactly far from the truth: she was curious and slightly worried about Rainbow, sure, but she wouldn't have really minded having a completely peaceful day either. Then again, she wasn't exactly sure it was at all possible to have a 'relaxed' day with the friends she had... Not that she minded too much.
Regardless, she looked back up at Twilight as she gave her a nod, easing a bit of her guilt. She could tell Twilight was grateful, but she really would have gone to find Rainbow whether Twilight was there or not. "S-so then... Why are you here, Rainbow Dash? If you don't mind us asking, that is..." she turned her attention back to the pegasus, tilting her head curiously.

Rainbow looked properly embarrassed at the whole thing as she looked away, letting out a breath..... She figured there was no use in lying now, it was already suspicious that she was here anyway. "I'm.... Waiting for someone to get here from Canterlot..."
She must have noted her friends odd looks at this. ".... He's.... A friend of mine, and he's, uh, coming to Ponyville for a visit... It'll be his first time in town, and I was going to show him around." She had to be perfectly honest, she had entirely forgotten to tell her friends about her date with Soarin'. Sure her personal life was her own business, but her friends still had the right to know what was up from time to time...
Well, she supposed they were going to be learning today then.

Twilight perked up when she heard that it was one of Dash's old friends coming from Canterlot, and a stallion friend at that, "Well, why didn't you just say so earlier, Dash? If you had told everyone before we could have helped you out, maybe Pinkie could have even baked something special up, or Applejack might have been able to do something as well. I mean, I understand that he's your friend and you might want to keep him to yourself, but we're here to help make him feel welcome if you would let us."

Rainbow looked a bit guilty when Twilight started listing off some of the things her friends could have done if she had told them of Soarin's coming sooner. Letting out a sigh and shaking her head, Rainbow looked to her unicorn friend. "Yeaaaah, sorry Twilight. I think I was going to tell you guys about it at some point, but it kinda slipped my mind."
She looked to Fluttershy next, wing-shrugging bashfully. "Though to be fair, he's been kinda busy recently, I didn't really know he'd be coming into town until I got a letter from him today. There wasn't a lot of time to plan, y'know?"
She kinda blushed at Twilight saying 'Keep him to yourself'. She couldn't help it really... Was that some sort of unconscious reason why she didn't say anything? Because of that? How the hoof could she know?

Twilight nudged Rainbow playfully, "Well it's not really a big deal," she said as she looked out over the tracks, "We're going to meet him soon and I've got to say that I'm pretty excited about it."
