It had been a few months since Aegis arrived in Ponyville. The ponies seemed nice and welcoming but their attitude was just so foreign to him... Even now he had trouble with their near always happy tones.

Aegis had worked odd jobs around the town here and there slowly gathering money so that eventually he could open his own forge to really make a good enough income to live off of. As it was he was able to keep an Inn room by helping the owner do some manual labor on and around the grounds.

It was afternoon and Aegis had been milling about the market place exercising his injured leg in the hopes he could slowly work the muscles back to their original shape. However today was not that day: Instead his leg gave him a very large shock of pain and with a short yell Aegis fell backward onto his rump as he shakily began to examine the hurt appendage.

"Blasted leg..." He mumbled

As it so happened, that day, a brown pegasus very similar in size to the large earth pony was walking nearby when he heard the yelp of pain. "Are you alright, sir?" Arpeggio walked up to Aegis, a concerned expression on his face. He glanced at Aegis' leg, which he had been looking at. "...You probably shouldn't be walking about if your leg is giving you trouble... here, my home is nearby. You can rest for a while there." He leaned down a bit, offering the earth pony his shoulder for support.

Aegis grunted as he looked up at Arpeggio and sighed soon after.

"I don't have a choice." He said as he used the shoulder to help himself up to a standing position. "Long way from home with no coin, have to make enough to live somehow." he explained glancing at his leg again.

"The first fit I've had in months... I suppose that means the treatment worked it just needs more time." He said to no one in particular then looked to Arpeggio. "Thank you, by the way... And call me Aegis, I'm no officer." he said chuckling to himself whether or not the joke was lost on Arpeggio.

The pegasus chuckled slightly as well, as he put his side against Aegis' to support him, helping the earth pony towards his home. "I see. Well met, Aegis. My name's Arpeggio." He glanced over what he could of the earth pony, amazed by his size.

AEgis grunted a bit "Likewise." He stated focusing on his movements. He was not at all fazed by the one over Arpeggio was giving him... his size was something unusual around these parts. Though Arpeggio was no small pony himself.

"Its almost as if you never saw a large pony before." He said with a joking voice. "I'd imagine you get similar stares."

Arpeggio chuckled. "You're just shy of the size of our princesses, so you could say that. I've rarely seen a pony your size. Though you'd be right. Pegasi my size are extremely uncommon." He chuckled softly. "Same regarding my wing size." He flared his large wing that wasn't against Aegis' side to show what he meant, before folding it back. "Will you need ice or a hot cloth on that leg of yours?" He continued walking, not too far from his home now.

"The hot cloth, probably." He paused "Least thats what I remember the Doctors Back from Gildedale said." he replied keeping his pace.

"I swear... If I was just a little bit faster this wouldn't have happened." He spit at the ground in contempt.

"I can manage that alright, then. As soon as we get to my home, you should rest on my couch; I can get a stool so you're not putting pressure on your leg... if I may ask, what happened?" He tilted his head a bit as he stopped in front of a house, opening the door. He helped Aegis inside, to the couch.

"Gildedale, where I come from, is beset by Komaga's every so often, its the job of the vanguard to keep them at bay so we can harvest our fields in relative peace. I was injured fighting said Komaga Ripped my leg apart with its teeth... right through my armor too." he explained.

"So... After being treated I was sent to Equestria to recoup. Fighting those flightless drakes is no way to heal a leg, don't you agree.? He asked after settling into the couch keeping pressure off his leg.

"Its rather annoying though."

Arpeggio soaked a cloth in hot water, before carefully wrapping Aegis' injured leg in the cloth. "I see... and I agree. I suppose they chose a good place for you to recover; Equestria's... well, fairly peaceful, anyway. Can I get you anything else?"

Aegis sighed and tensed a bit as his leg was wrapped in the warm cloth, the pain starting to fade all ready.

"No, that should be good." he said as he ever so slightly bent his leg just to see.

"What do you do around town anyway?"

Arpeggio smiled a bit. "Well, I'm not much for typical work... I'm a musician." He gestured to the stacks of staff paper and sheet music around the living room. "Composer, as well. I'm a little different from the average pegasus. What about you, Aegis? Are you a soldier? You said you were part of a 'vanguard' back in Glidedale, right?"

"Partly." he started glancing over the music sheets "I know how to fight and how to survive and such but my true trade is Blacksmithing... I'm rather good at that." He said chuckling.

"I want to eventually set up my own forge here once I get the coin. Its hard enough keeping an Inn room without money." He explained leaning back.

"But to return to the Vanguard... The Vanguard are a purely defensive army meant to stop the Komaga's advance when they charge from hte Drackenridge mountains into my country."

"Ahh... I see. Drackenridge is kinda close to here, if memory serves... a smith, eh? Hmhm..." Arpeggio chuckled as well. "If you ever do pull that off, Aegis, I could use a new trumpet, provided you can make those kinds of things." He grinned a bit and sat down in a chair near the couch. "And you're sure you don't need anything? I was considering heating water for tea..."

"Well, I could always try. If its metal I can work it." he said nodding.

"Tea sounds nice, but I don't want to be a burden. I'm a firm believer that 'something for nothing' isn't the way to go." He said looking up at the ceiling.

"Say, how long did it take you to get set up here?"
