Just where do these ponies come from?

Luna's Royal Guard, The Lunar Guard, or simple The Night Guard, is a well known and organized branch of the Equestrian military. They operate in very much the same ways as Celestia's guard, except that most of their operations and activities take place after sunset. They are formed entirely out of volunteers, the same as the Solar Guard. They are your friends and neighbors and they seem to be growing in number every day.

However, this was not always the case. The Lunar Guard used to be comprised of an ancient species of pony-like creatures that were mostly omnivorous, and had leathery wings, as well as exceedingly good night vision and other heightened senses. It is believed that these creatures went extinct after the fall of Nightmare Moon. Be it by mass hunting parties or natural selection.

Reputation for aggressive behaviour

It is well known that one might not receive the courtesy or consideration from a Lunar Guardsman that one would expect from the Solar Guard. But this has more to do with differences in training and procedures than inherent behavioral tendencies. It is important to note that a larger percentage of violent crimes in Equestria occur at night, and thus, members of the Lunar Guard have to be at the top of their game. And that means taking leniency out of some situations. They will always try to be fair and in accordance with the law, but they will also try not to show any sign of weakness. This can often be mistaken as the aggression that many claim to have experienced.

Are there only pegasus/Do I have to be a Pegasus to join?

Not at all! Luna's Royal Guard is an equal opportunity employer. This means that ponies of all races and gender are welcome to enlist and receive the training required to join their ranks. Let's take a moment to look at the structure of LRG.

Soldiers of LRG are typically reffered to as Gargoyles. Pegasus, Unicorns and Earth Ponies are decided into different Gargoyle sub-types. Pegasus are traditionaly known as Window Watchers. They spread their reach far to see any threat that might be coming their way. Often times they will take care of the problem themselves, but every now and then they might require the assistance of their brothers in arms.

Unicorns are known as Property Protectors. Unicorns in LRG are mostly known to safeguard intelligence, document reported events and guard the more important government property and structures. They are just as capable and ferocious as both of their counterparts, relying heavily on magic and intelligence to defeat enemies and solve critical problems.

Earth Ponies, known as Children Protectors, hold a little more of a straightforward position. They are basically the infantry, the hard hitters, the muscle. They work in tandem with the Window Watchers and Property Protectos as a line of defence. If the other two become overwhelmed, you can bet that they will hold their ground as if they were an immovable mountain. Security and rapid response to dangerous situations are what they are best at within their posts.

Why does LRG look so scary?

LRG takes pride in the ancient history that it was founded on. Therefore, they strive to be as close to what the old guard used to be as possible. Before a class of graduating recruits can take their posts, they are magically transformed from normal ponies, to Gargoyles. This transformation is, for the most part, cosmetic. However, the transition gives LRG soldiers the advantages of heightened night vision and other senses that assist them with their work during the nighttime hours. As a result, don't expect to see too many of them walking around during the day, as these senses can be irritated by bright sunlight and the noise of bustling daytime activity.

In conclusion

Members of LRG are normal, hardworking members of your community. Should you be stopped by one, you should cooperate, maintain respect at all times, andtake into account that they understand that you may not have done anything wrong at all. It is simply for everyone's safety that they maintain a rough and stern exterior. This, of course while remaining fair, respectful, ad in accordance with all of equestria's laws and regulations.

Should you have any questions about Luna's Royal Guard, contact your nearest information center, or speak with your area's recruitment office.

If you wish to report any mistreatment, see your district's Lunar Cheif of Operations and your report will be taken in for investigation.
