Spellbound had his book out, seeming to compare the machine to a design in his book. Once Cogwheel flipped the lever and started the machine he looked at it as it started. Under a watchful eye, he observed his components work as intended and Cogwheel's design function without issue. "Well, I did have a premeditated speech prepared for that step, but oh well." he commented as he closed his book and walked over to the control panel. He then propped himself up to the little sliders that controlled the input of arcane forces, colored appropriately. He watched with a smirk as the machine got up to speed. "Mares and Stallions, please don your protective equipment or evacuate the vicinity." he said with a crooked, giddy smile. Once the machine was up to speed he pressed the start button for the magical injectors and began to adjust the sliders on the control panel.

Cog went ahead and put on his welding goggles to act as "safety" goggles. He watched as the arms of the machine rotated, listening to them squeak ever so slightly. He made a mental note to grease the hinges the first chance he got. Spell was now on the controls, and he could only watch curiously as the machine did it's work.

As Spellbound slowly moved the sliders up, the various hues of arcane energy began to color the rapidly spinning ring. It was a powerful rainbow of colors, except the blurred, overlapped and stood boldly against each other as the rotor spun. The arcane injectors slowly poured their mixed energy into a central siphon device, which in turn injected into the reinforced energy crystal. The larger hollow energy crystal began to glow with a brilliant light, as if light itself had taken physical form to live within the hollow space within the crystal.

This process continued and Spellbound adjusted the sliders, moving them all up equally. As a random lightning bolt shot from the machine, Spellbound lowered the power of a slider. The process seemed stable and he continued raising the sliders again. The ground began to rumble and a large chunk of dirt flew upwards. The chunk of dirt then began to orbit the machine. Spellbound turned down another slider and the dirt quickly fell down and splashed into a pile. Spellbound still pressed on, raising the sliders to near their max, with only the minor adjustments. Random pieces of debris were picked up and thrown and magical sparkles became apparent in the nearby air. Spellbound lowered yet another slider. Three of the sliders were now near the max.

Based on the colors of the arcane rainbow surrounding the machine, Spellbound tweaked the sliders to balance it out some. The machine seemed to stabilize in all of the chaos and the light continued to pour into the hollow, reinforced energy crystal that stood at the center. The light continued and the crystal had showed no signs of stress, but rather a constant rate of growth. It took but a minute of continuous operation and the energy crystals, seemingly all at once, died in a flash. The arcane rainbow was gone and the machine slowly stopped spinning. Even the crystal that had powered the machine had lost power. All of the crystals but one.

Sitting in the center of the room sat a crystal that shone like a small star. The machine slowly wound to a halt and Spellbound just stared for a moment longer with a smile. He grabbed a small apparatus that seemed like a series of gauges and approached the shining crystal. Holding his gauges near it detected that all the various forms of magic it would detect were present in (seemingly) various high levels. "My friends. We have crafted Ley." he stated as stared at the crystal with a wicked smile.

Cog watched with perverse curiosity as Spellbound worked the controls. He jumped at the sudden bolt of lightning that burst from within, Spell skilfully working the controls to keep it handled. The rainbow of colours that formed as the arms of the machine spun were dazzling to say the least.

And then a chunk of earth was pulled up from the ground, cog had to duck to dodge it as it orbited the contraption. Still he looked on through his goggles, a smile creeping on his face as well. It was really working, wasn't it. The machine came to a slow halt now, Spell grabbing his gauges and moving them near what was now a bona fide ley crystal.

Cog made a small hoof pump of success. "Alright! First time go!"

Silver finished tweaking up the moving platform and wiped some sweat from her brow. It was knly at the end of her caffeine augmented building rush that she even began to realize what she had just done. She had just ignored two ponies in a mad dash to create something that may even turn out to be redundant. '. . . Idiot! Nice going Silva,' She thought to herself.

"Uhh... good afternoon to you two too!" She chirped back sheepishly. . . Stepping away from the machine after making sure that its wheels were locked in place. "uhh...Nothing to see her!" She stepped behind Spellbound and watched from a distance what was about to occur. . .

Of course, she couldn't stay long. Silver ducked behind a nearby crate as the room descended to chaos, raw energy flowing everywhere. It was so thick that she could practically feel it. Therr was a crash, and a bang... but Silver dared not look. She waited for the noise to die down, when Spellbound finally spoke. It was then that Silver poked her head around the crate to check for anything, only to find a...crystal?

". . .woah..."
Always keep this hammer close, and let it be your tool of creation. -Her previous Blacksmith Master's last request of her.

"Indeed!" Spellbound responded to Cogwheel with some glee. He flashed Silver Colt a quick smile, something that showed some pride in his maniacal luck. Studying his gauges and the crystal, he made some mental notes before speaking again. He then stepped away from the machine for a moment and levitated the central crystal that powered the device down to the shining, ley-charged crystal. "And to return to our earlier conversation, Mister Cogwheel..." he began as he carefully examined both crystals. "In order to discover the truth of Ley magic we must have a piece of it to study. And we now possess such a convenience. Now any further observations that I can make on Ley magic is minimal. We know that this is indeed a mixture of arcane energies, perhaps in equal parts of each, and thus far has remained... sustainable. The crystal case seems to be holding rather well. Mind you, I'm a bit... uncertain whether the variable of a hollow crystal or the repulsive arcane field I have built into the containment mechanism are working, so we have that to test.

"Now with this piece of Ley to observe, one of my theories can be easily addressed. Ley lines have not often been noted to change location. This can be for the reasons that Ley attracts Ley and hence it remains in a fixed position solely based on no forces to attract it to new locations... or the Ley lines are generated specifically due to their geographic location. Such as a magical intersection point or a cross between planes, which is a tad far-fetched even considering that we've manufactured a piece of Ley... So this leads to another theory. That Ley is present and has not moved simply due to it being self-sustained and, quite possibly, generates magic on its own, hence the spells cast at random.

Now how can we test these theories? If a geological position held the key to sustaining Ley then we would see this Ley rapidly diminish or dissipate upon use. The same experiment applies for the theory of Ley simply existing. But if Ley truly generates magic as is then..." he stated, finally done observing the pair of crystals. He had retrieved his journal and made several notes on the subject, including a few sketches. He closed his journal and stowed it. He then took the spent magic crystal and seemingly connected it with the Ley crystal. The spent magic crystal flickered for a moment, but soon slowly started to glow. It began to brighten from its dim state of nearly a candle as it seemed to charge. Spellbound retrieved his gauges and began monitoring the interaction. "It could be that my early observations are premature, but these crystals only appear to be gaining magical charge. The Ley crystal is not... losing any arcane power. The power crystal atop is... growing in power, but... in all of the arcane powers at once, not the one it was specialized for..." Spellbound noted with some odd disbelief.

Then a crack appeared in the magic crystal on top. "Nope!!" Spellbound shouted as he removed the crystal with telekinesis. He brought the crystal to his own horn and seemed to suck the magic out of it as quickly as he could. His coat hairs stood on end and his magic released the crystal. Spellbound set the crystal down as best as he could, but he twitched to an almost uncontrollable degree. He yelled and a lightning bolt erupted to make a random desk explode into splinters, followed suit by a fireball to ignite the corner of another desk. The burning desk was quickly doused by a blast of rain and a gust of wind, which quickly froze into ice so quickly the rest became hail. The furniture and ponies remaining in the room would be lifted up a few feet and the ground rose from below before quickly dropping down.

The chaos was gone as quickly as it had arrived. A frail Spellbound laid near the Ley crystal, clutching the power crystal he had just attempted to skim the power of. He looked terrible, with no sign of physical harm but obvious fatigue. His hair was even more of a mess than it often was and he had somehow become separated from his saddlebags (which lay across the room). He moaned but soon let out a small, crazed laugh. "Notes for future testing; do not attempt to contain Ley... in either sub-par crystals nor personnel. Heh..." he coughed out as he laid there, now focused on catching his breath. While what he had done was dangerous, he now knew something very important about the Ley crystal.

Cogwheel watched the scene unfold. Spell was going on a scientific monologue about Ley energy, touching the power crystal to the Ley crystal. Seemingly the power crystal was brought back to life! However with all of the arcane magics, not the ones it was made for.

And that's when things got crazy. The crystal cracked, Spell touched it to his horn, and then all sorts of hell broke loose. There was lighting, then fire, water ice. And then the ground started moving! He flapped his wings and hovered in the air to avoid being thrown back down to the ground again.

And just like that it was all over. He rushed to Spell, who looked worse for wear. "Spell! Are you alright?!"

Spellbound laid still for a moment after his last statement. He was both excited and exhausted at the same time. He laid there motionless for a moment, watching the world fade around him. He coughed and forced a sharp inhale and forced himself to breathe which brought about a terrible coughing fit. He shakily stood up and even tried to use his magic. Then, a realization had hit him harder than seemingly the last sixty seconds altogether. He couldn't use his magic. He sat down and touched his horn with a worried expression. "Oh not this again. I-- I cannot utilize magic. At least... not for some time. Oh how I detest this condition." he groaned as he got up again.

He slowly, carefully walked over towards Cogwheel. "I've all my appendages. Have you suffered injury Mister Cogwheel?" he asked, surveying the scene.

Cog helped Spell up to his hooves, rolling his eyes a bit as he got upset about not being able to use magic. "I'm fine. Silver's good too." He said. He looked Spell over to make sure he didn't have any external injuries.

"What the heck was that all about?" He asked, inquiring about the chaos that Spell seemingly unleashed.

"Ley energy possess vast quantities.. of all arcane powers combined. With our understanding... of this concept we must understand that... not everything can contain such a force. ...Especially not ponies." he said as he seemed to struggle between breaths. He was slowly focusing himself to regain his composure. He was too excited about his captured Ley to let even the daunting fatigue he was feeling stop him. He cast a glance to Silver Colt and Cogwheel, seeing that they were both okay and smiled. "But we do possess an item to contain Ley. Not only that, but to also allow the currently unknown arcane process within to generate more Ley. Going a step further this design contains the function to extract generated Ley for magical use. Friends,--" he said, looking back at the shining crystal for a moment. "We have created... A Ley Catalyst." he said with a wicked smile and pride in his voice. They had done it.

Cog smiled, glad that Spell was at least ok. "Congratulations, Spell." He said. "Don't get too exited though. You should take it easy for a while." He looked at the crystal. Between the three of them, they had successfully created a usable and testable source of Ley. He gave Spell a congratulatory pat on the back. "What will you do now?"

Spellbound looked around for a moment. In his mind were a myriad of new tests that involved the Ley Catalyst. But something came up into his mind that shone brighter than the brilliance of the Ley Catalyst itself. A smile, seemingly brighter and more devious came upon his face as he looked at Silver Colt. He gave a short, almost pained, laugh to make the smile go away. "I've heard rumor of a nearby science conference." he stated.

"Erm, you really think that's a good idea?" Cog said, a slightly worried look on his face. "You just went through an episode after all. Plus, you only just made that thing, you really should make sure it's stable..." Come to think of it, that expression was starting to worry him too.
