A blast of fire and dark magic flashed across a section of the Everfree Forest. Pure demonic energy surged through the forest, morphing and disfiguring all the living things caught in it's blast. The energy surged back into the epicenter of the explosion, and caused a smaller one in it's wake. There laid a pony like figure, coursing with the demonic power that was cast out across the forest.
It all then faded, it all being absorbed into Crayak's body. His eyes shot open, and he quickly took to his hooves to scan the area for any threats, if any other being dared to do so. A heavy silence filled the air, all the organisms in the are filled with terror as this powerful figure emerged out of thin air. Crayak deemed the area non-hostile, and looked at the terrain around him.
"This mortal plane is disgusting."

Midnight had been sitting in the Everfree Forest, meditating. It was a strangely mortal thing for a creature like her to be doing, but she had grown to enjoy the peace of mind it provided her during her more troubled times. And recently, she had been growing more troubled than ever before.
"Thousands of years, and I still hear no word, feel no sign." She whispered softly. "I still long to return to my world. Yet..." She had grown accustomed to Equestria, she had friends (if they could even be called that), and a daughter. She had a purpose once again, something she didn't think she was capable of having without the presence of her lord.
"What am I to do?" She asked out loud, though her voice was hardly more than a whisper. "If the time comes, what is the right choice?" She brought herself up to her hooves and shook her head, dispelling the troubles that clouded her mind.
That was when an explosion rocked the Forest, so powerful in its spiritual energy that it swept the demon off her hooves and caused her to feel a sharp stab of immense pain. Yet the pain was so familiar, she had experienced it so many times before. It had been all she had ever longed for throughout her impossibly long exile.
'Impossible...' She thought in shock, 'It can't be...'
In an instant, her massive wings snapped open and she took to the skies with a powerful flap. The demon reached her top speed quickly and in an instant found herself at the source of the explosion. There was no mistaking the powerful and terrifying presence at the epicenter of the blast.
She dive bombed out of the sky and landed at the edge of the crater that the demon lord had created. That was when she saw him with her own tainted eyes, after what felt like an eternity, stretched across centuries... This couldn't be real, it had to be a trick or an illusion. Her Lord Crayak, in the flesh, standing before her.
"My lord..." She gasped, hardly more than a whisper. "I... How did you..." Midnight was at a complete loss for words.

"Well, this is easier than I thought it was going to be!" Crayak laughed insanely as he embraced Midnight. "Glad to see your not dead, or fucking insane!" He released her, a smile across his face. "I thought it was gonna be YEARS until I found you. And, here you are!" He turned away from Midnight and trotted a couple spaces before abruptly turning around. He rushed back over to Midnight, staring right into her eyes.
His mood dropped from joyful, rage filling his eyes. "If you fucking touched one of those putrid male mortals, I'll kill you."

As much as the Midnight would not admit it, she was terrified. The wrath of Lord Crayak was legendary among the lords of hell, and no demon knew that more than his own consort did. His embrace had been sudden, and not at all what she had been expecting. She had almost flinched away, almost... All it had taken was reminding herself of the potential consequences to stop herself from doing so.
"Of course not my lord." She responded quickly, but her voice was low and submissive. "I have been nothing but faithful." Her yellow eyes did not avert from staring into his own red eyes, so full of rage and insanity, eyes that the demon had grown to love. She quickly looked down at the ground though, knowing not to look into those eyes for too long.
So many thoughts were running through her head, and she found herself more troubled than she had been in a few hundred years. He had come here to find her, he had just admitted it. But WHY did he want her? There were far too many potential reasons, but there was no telling just what was going on in her lord's mind.
Yet she stood there demurely, as she had before in the courts of hell and every other time she was in his presence. It felt like an old habit falling back into place. In the grand scheme of things, and compared to her lord, she was less than nothing. She hardly qualified to be considered alive, she remembered these things so well.
They were facts that kept her in the good graces of her lord and the other rulers of hell. It was what allowed her to entertain a strong presence in the ruling class. Yet why did she now resent it so much? Had living for so long with mortals corrupted her mind and brought her to think she was important in her own right?
"My lord I beg for you forgiveness." She said softly, "I had begun to lose hope after these many centuries. I had started to harbor doubts, that perhaps I would never be graced by your presence again..." Her muscles tensed under her pelt, preparing for the strike that she knew was inevitable to come.

"Well hope be restored!" Crayak yelled into the air, his mood changing to joy again as he backed away from Midnight to a normal distance. "We can go home now! Just as soon as we figure out how.." He said lowering his head to the ground, upset that he failed to find a way back home before traversing to the mortal plane.
"I was imprisoned for centuries after your banishment, I actually learned something from it. There's no longer to be so submissive to me or anyone, dear. Being imprisoned like how I was sucks, so I'm no longer demeaning anybody." He laughed as he drew to his conclusion. "So do what you want, but if I say to do something, and you don't comply. I'll kill you."

When the strike she had been anticipating didn't come, Midnight knew for a fact that something was very wrong. He had changed somehow, yet she did not think it was entirely for the reason he had provided. Had her centuries of absence finally pushed him even farther over the edge than he had already been?
'What has happened to you my lord...' She thought sadly.
"I have spent these many years searching for a way to return to you, my lord." She informed him, as hard as she tried she could not bring herself to speak in a normal tone. It was unnatural, and went against every degree of self imposed control she had over herself.
The demon gave a small shake of her head, "I'm not any closer to discovering the reason we cannot return than I was the day I arrived on this plane." Thousands of years should have been more than enough time to discover the cause of her, for lack of a better word, imprisonment in this existence.
But she was merely one demon, all the others that had been exiled along with her had been driven to pure madness or rounded up and destroyed. Even though she had not completely given up hope, that did not mean that it was not waning. The demon could only bear so much disappointment in her own failures before she eventually started to give up.
But now her lord was here, and she could continue her search, stronger than ever before. She looked at him in all of his demonic glory and felt her mortal host's heart start to beat furiously against her chest. 'Centuries...' The thought echoed in her mind.

"You haven't found a way in the slightest to get back?" Crayak grew irritated, he believed that she had been searching all this time, but was there really nothing to go off of? No one who knows anything about traversing planes?
"I have no clue where I am actually." Crayak's mind suddenly switched gears back to his surroundings, he began to look around. "This forest must be scary for those mortals, it feels kind of at home to me. Where exactly are we, my dear?"

"The mortals believe these forests to be haunted, my lord." Midnight growled, "They call it the Everfree Forest, it's the one place in Equestria where they can't control the elements. That fact frightens them." It also made it a very convenient place for solitude when the demon required it.
"The closest settlement to here is Ponyville, which is where I have resided for the most part." The demon had not yet been lulled into complacency in Crayak's presence, in fact she was slowly become more and more cautious. She did not yet dare tell him about her daughter, his reaction would undoubtedly prove to be difficult to deal with.
Midnight was worried though, she had blended in to the mortal world with such difficulty, such resilience, it had almost proven to have been impossible. Her Lord Crayak would undoubtedly prove even more difficult, what would he do if he was trapped here for any extended period of time. His hatred for the mortal world far exceeded hers, this was well known.
She didn't yet know, his return was already playing hell with her mind as well as her spirit. The demon's loyalties were already becoming strained. Her Lord husband had taken her up from being less than nothing, he had forged her into what she was to the day they were betrayed. But her thousands of years serving Celestia had reshaped her, turned her into something to different. Who was she supposed to serve now?

"Stupid mortals," Crayak laughed maniacally, "Now that I'm here, some of them will see true terror." Crayak made his way past Midnight, out of the crater he caused in his arrival and into the forest. "Would it be wise to go to this, Ponyville? I know nothing of this plane, so you shall guide me."

"I would not recommend it, my lord." Midnight dared to suggest, treading on very thin ice. She did not know what would set Crayak off in his current state, if anything. Every word she spoke could be the one thing to make him switch back to the way that she had once known him.
First and foremost, she had to put as much distance as she could between Crayak and her daughter. If he were to find out about her, she was terrified of how he would react, and what he might do to the little filly. She had sworn to protect her daughter against any danger, no matter what the cost. But to fight against her lord husband would be absolute madness, she wouldn't stand a chance and there would be nothing that she could to do stop him.
"These ponies are very ignorant when it comes to things outside their own little insignificant realm. A lord of your such presence would draw unwelcome attention upon us." It was a horrible excuse, but it might stroke his ego enough to put him into some degree of complacency. That was the best she could hope for.
She was playing a dangerous game, she just hoped that it wouldn't come back to kill her. She knew that others needed to be warned about this, Eclipse and the Princesses first and foremost. The demon would need to find a chance to escape to Canterlot, she needed to be able to buy herself some time. But how would she be able to do that?

"Then we shall be subtle." The demon lord suggested as he continued trotting away, expecting Midnight to follow. He stopped as the forest grew darker, and waves of comfort permeated from it the the demon. "I just wanted to get started on getting the fuck out of here." He said turning back to his consort. "If we have to go unnoticed... For now... Then we shall."

Lord Crayak's quick acceptance of her word shocked her. And if truth be told, she was starting to get a little annoyed with it, where was the feared lord of hell that she had once loved and cared for? All she saw here was an empty shell of a once relevant demon reduced to nothing. Again, she wondered if it had all been because of her absence. Would prolonged exposure to his mate bring him back to how he used to be? Only time would tell...
"With your strength in this world, perhaps I will finally be able to find something." She mused, more to herself than to Crayak. It was worth looking into, perhaps his entrance into this world had served as a catalyst for something hell related, something that could lead them back home.
Still, she needed time and in his current state she wasn't sure how to get any amount of it. Then she remembered, in fact she wasn't even certain how she could have forgotten in the first place, how to make this work. 'Men are all so easy.' The demon thought with a small degree of amusement.
Midnight turned to look at him and smiled slyly, "Does my lord require company? Perhaps my absence had proved to be something even someone as powerful as you could not bear for so long?" It would explain quite a bit, if she were to honestly think about it.

The thoughts swirled around inside The Demon Lords head, causing an impervious cloud of submission around the true being that lurked underneath. The inner demon inside the could struggled endlessly to break free of the shroud that tamed him, and right at that moment he punched through. Crayak's body jolted backwards towards Midnight, his head meeting hers like it did moments ago, a wicked glare scratched across his face.
"I need not to be coddled by you, if I had wanted company, I would have asked for it!" Crayak shouted in a loud demonic voice that rocked the earth around them. Black fire seeped from his lips as he licked his lips with his long, ink-colored tongue. "I crave flesh." He then turned and began moving in the same direction he was before, a rumble in his stomach.

Midnight smirked at the sudden outburst. Progress, that was good, at least she knew he wasn't completely lost to her. His display was impressive, but did not phase her in the slightest.
"If you're lucky, you'll find a pony wandering around in the woods. Some of the more adventurous ones come out here every now and then." She shrugged her shoulders, "Several have wound up missing, never to be seen again. Such a shame really. But this is a dangerous area, accidents happen." She licked her lips, remembering the warm taste of flesh.
A small force in the back of her mind grabbed hold of her thoughts and reigned her back under control. She was losing it, and that could only end horribly when she was to return to Ponyville and even Canterlot. The demon had grown quite good at suppressing her urges, but something about her lord's presence was intoxicating her, driving her mildly insane.
She shivered in fear, not at Crayak or his killer instincts, but at her own lack of self control. "Hunt well my lord." She growled, "I must return to the mortals. They will be expecting me. I will bring back word shortly." Shortly in demon terms perhaps being a few days or so.
If this was the chance she got to slip away, she was going to take it. The demon just hoped that he wouldn't make a scene or stray too far. This would be a very delicate situation, needing to be handled with the utmost care and caution. She turned around and began to walk in the direction of Ponyville.

"The mortals are..." Crayak said aloud, repeating it over to find it's significance. The swirls of thoughts in his head played it off as minor, but the demon inside was raging, furious that his own wife had actually conversed with the mortals. But the shroud clouded the rage, and the demon denied showing and frustration.
"Do what you must." He said bitterly, "I shall hunt." The Demon Lord then leapt into the air, leaving the ground scorched with fire. He flapped his wings hard through the canopy of the trees, easy smashing through the branches that blocked his path. He exited the canopy and flew higher, so he could see the whole layout of the forest, and begin hunting for his prey.
