Silent Wit closed his apartment door and wrapped his coat around him. It was a chilly morning, but he had things to do and he wanted to get this over with. He'd been recommended to go see the local bookstore owner, Full Circle. For what reason he couldn't possibly imagine, though maybe the half-brother of Livewire could give him some useful information.
He trot through the square quickly and quietly, ignoring the ponies who chose to try and greet him. He'd gotten a bit of a reputation lately, after he'd hung up the ad for his 'Consultant Detective' business. It had been slow going, and he needed something else to occupy his mind while he worked on what few cases he had.
Wit looked over the shop as he got closer, and knocked on the door before entering. "Anypony home?"

Sphere stalked around the front entrance of Book Store, awaiting his father's arrival home from his 'business trip', whatever that meant. He'd taken up to guarding the main lobby by himself, against any intruders, much against his mother's requests. She was away at the moment though, so it wasn't as though she was about to stop him. His father would be proud if he came home to find Sphere guarding the homestead.
As he continued his stalking across the floor, slowly creeping up on his favorite rubber ball, a knock and a voice came from the front door. Usually, when they got customers, they would just walk in. The fact that they were taking the time to knock meant that they were either unfamiliar with where they were, or were far too formal. Either way, they were going to be greeted happily on sight.
"The door's open! Come in!"
Sphere was never much of one for an 'inside voice'.

Wit looked around for the voice, and when he saw it he nearly put a hoof to his face. Oh, by the moon and the stars.. anything but a foal.. He detested dealing with the small foals. They were so tiny and energetic, and this one seemed especially so. Even worse, Wit couldn't bring himself to lord his superior intellect over them, either. They were too young to understand even if he did, and his off-hoof insults never worked, either.
In short, Wit hated foals, but it was a situation he couldn't escape now. It was already upon him.. whoever it was. He forced a smile. "Hello.. who are you?"

The pony that had entered his home didn't seem all too thrilled to be there. If that was the case, why had he entered in the first place? Maybe he wasn't there to see books, but was rather there to cause trouble, or possibly foalnap him. That wouldn't be happening on Sphere's watch though. He crouched down into a stance that would allow him to pounce, and recited the short speech that his father had taught him, in case of trouble.
"I am Sphere Stalker, son of the mighty Full Circle, destroyer of warlocks! If you wish to do harm to this place, you'll have to go through me first!"
Yes, that sounded good. This unicorn was probably terrified now.

Wit had to resist the urge to start snickering. It was really hard for him. That speech, coming from the young and squeaky foal was amusing. If only for the reason that Glaive had given him the impression that Full Circle was a very harmless pacifist. Who owned a bookstore. The former assassin didn't give off the hint that his best friend was a slayer of warlocks, and he decided to believe the former assassin instead of the speech just given to him.
Still, Wit forced himself to smile and chuckle. He really hated foals. He hated having to worry about holding himself in check. It was easier to just talk and ignore everypony. "Very good. Did you practice that in the mirror?"

"I absolutely did! Thank you for noticing. You still haven't introduced yourself though. That's awfully rude for somepony who just barges into another pony's home."
Sphere often did the same thing himself when visiting other places, but that didn't bother him too much. The colt was usually in far too big of a hurry to stop and give his name to every old pony that came along his path.

"Isn't this a store?" Wit countered quickly, then stopped himself from any snide comments that might follow. He smiled, and played it off as a friendly joke. "I'm Silent Wit.. where's your parents?"
Hm... interesting. His mind worked at an incredible speed as he worked through the information he was absorbing. The colt is crouched for some reason. Foals usually act one of two ways at the sight of the unfamiliar. Cowering, or facing it with some sort of overblown, outstretched and annoying stance. This is different, it looks like his back legs are tensed, and.. are his teeth..?
"Ohhhh..." Wit let out quietly. It wasn't hard to figure out, but it was always a great feeling when he did.
