Seraph trotted through the halls of Ponyville Estate. It was a bright sunny morning, the birds were chirping, the flowers were blooming, and even Arael seemed to at least not be in a terrible mood today. Speaking of her, she wanted to talk to him later today also. But who cares? It was without a doubt the best morning ever. Breakfast was absolutely celestial and it was nearing lunch time. He'd just collected the rent from his tenants which meant he could now purchase supplies to begin the expansion of the estate, architecture being his favorite hobby of course. Yes, there was no way that anything could mess this day up.

Midnight's had hoped that her flight back from Canterlot would be able to lighten her mood and allow her to prepare for what she was about to do. The meeting with Glaive had gone just about as she had expected it, though the audience with the Princess had been something else entirely.

Yet, as soon as the Estate was in sight, all her fears and anxieties sprung back up and her mind was once again filled with doubt. She just wanted to turn around and just fly as far as her wings would take her, run away and leave it all behind. This was not the first time she had such urges, in fact she had that thought almost every hundred years since she had first come to this world. Yet, going as far and seeing what she had seen, running would never allow her to escape. This mortal world was constrained to the rules of reality, and she could only ever run so far from her problems before they caught right back up with her.

She had to force herself to be calm though, no doubt Seraph would be able to sense her approach. The demon did not want to let anything spoil this, she still needed time to bring her thoughts and emotions back into check. As emotionally volatile as the demon was, she had learned to master herself so as to not have violent outbursts like she used to.

Her wings folded in and she let herself into the estate, her home. It was almost afternoon, it had taken her that long to get back. Well, to be fair, she had spent quite a bit of time meditating in the Canterlot Castle garden. That had not helped her in the slightest.

That was when Midnight saw her mate, simply walking down the hallways. Her heart caught in her chest at the sight of him, his warm and angelic presence permeating the very air around him. So glorious, she was constantly in awe of how a creature like her could have gotten as perfect a being as him.

"I'm home..." She said lamely, with a small and awkward smile. "Sorry I'm so late."

Seraph knew that feeling anywhere. "Midnight!" The morning just kept getting better. He trotted up to her and gave her a peck on the cheek, as he usually did when they met each day. "You missed breakfast, but I can make a special lunch if you like." He acted as if they were practically married. He made meals, cleaned, at least where his new housecleaner Opec missed, and even played with Midnight's little adopted filly from time to time. They were as much a picture of a family as you could get.

Midnight was still smiling, and in fact blushing just a little bit. Seraph treated her so well, better than the demon even deserved. That was going to make this all the more difficult. "If you wouldn't mind of course. I haven't had real food in a few weeks."

The angel had been the first one to ever convince her to try mortal food. She had been strongly against it for the longest time but finally gave in, and was glad that she had done so. She had found it to be delicious, against all odds. Still, she did not need food for sustenance, so she went for absurdly long amounts of time without any need for nutrition.

"Thank you Seraph..." She said suddenly, looking down at the ground. "Thank you for everything. You've been nothing but wonderful to me and even Snowball. It's more than I ever could have asked for." Tears welled up in her eyes, but they did not yet fall. He had found her at one of her darkest times, and had stopped her from losing complete control and falling into the madness that all the demons she had outlasted eventually succumbed to.

She looked up at him and tried to keep smiling, but it faltered. "But I don't deserve it. I've made a horrible mistake." That was when the tears started to fall, and for the first time ever, the demon began to cry.

Everything she had worked so hard for, every moment she had spent with Seraph was about to be brutally shattered. The illusion of normality she had created for herself was gone, and underneath it was nothing but an empty shell. "I'm so sorry." She choked out.

"Whoa whoa whoa." Seraph said softly. This was something he'd certainly never seen before. Nor was he prepared for. "What's wrong? What do you mean you made a mistake?" It had to be serious for the demon to be losing it like this. He gently lifted her head to face you "Hey, you know you can tell me anything, right?" he said reassuringly "So what's the problem?"

Midnight was so close to her breaking point, she had gone from a life of simple existence to everything wrong with the world rearing its ugly head up at once and biting her for letting her guard down. And when he raised her head and she was so close to him, it made it so much worse. His warm presence, the inviting feeling, the kindness that he embodied...

The demon's tears were flowing freely, "I lied to you, or at least I never told you the whole truth about my past." She stared down at the ground, she could not bring herself to look her mate in the eyes.

"I was... I still am... The consort of one of the most powerful lords of hell." She whispered softly. "I was his, for thousands of years before I ever came to this world." As the words were spoken, she felt increasingly horrible about herself.

"After all these millennium, I had given up hope of ever returning home. I had thought I would never see him again, so I had let go." She shook her head in sorrow. "And now he's back." She whispered softly, "Lord Crayak has come to this world to take me back to hell."

"I had never told you this before, because I was terrified of what you might think of me..." She said, trying to stop the tears but finding herself unable to. "I had hoped you would never have to know..." Midnight backed away slowly, figuring Seraph would not even want to be close to her at that point.

Seraph's bright and sunny morning got just a bit darker at that moment. "You... You're what?" He said,His voice shook a little bit. Emotions stirred in him that had been dormant for thousands of years. "A lord of hell is here... And you're his consort... I..." He couldn't help feeling a bit betrayed. Especially after all they had been through together. Though now his emotions were focused on this 'Lord Crayak'.

"You don't... Plan on going back to him do you? I mean, not after everything that's happened, right?" He couldn't stop Midnight from making her own choices, but if she left him for her former lord, that would tear him up inside. "And what exactly does this Lord Crayak have planned for you, or the rest of this realm for that matter."

And there it was, the question that Midnight didn't even have the answer for. What was she supposed to say to the angel that had taken her in and given her and her daughter shelter? She owed him so much in such a very short time...

"I've been loyal to him for thousands of years." She started slowly, her voice shaky and uncertain. "I've waited for his return for thousands more..." The demon had stopped crying, the burst of extreme and overwhelming emotions coming to a swift end. She was nowhere close to returning to her calm and collected self however.

Finally, Midnight dared to raise her head to look up at Seraph. "But he never cared for me like you have. You've done so much for me, helped me through some of my toughest times." He had made her feel better than she ever had before, in every single way. "And I love you..." She whispered softly.

Yet... Crayak's presence was intoxicating, she knew she couldn't control herself around her lord. Even being around him for that short time she had been was enough to drive up her bloodthirst, make her crave flesh once again, give in to her baser instincts. Even if she wanted to stay with Seraph, she didn't think she'd be able to make that decision for herself. She wasn't strong enough to resist Crayak.

As for what he wanted, well, Lord Crayak had admitted that himself. "He came all this way just to take me back. That's it." She said, quickly looking back down at the ground in shame. "If you want me to leave... I will. I'll leave now and you'll never have to see me again."

Seraph felt a pain in his chest. His heart was on the verge of breaking. All he could think about was how dare this 'Lord Crayak' come and try to take away the one thing in this realm he'd acquired an attachment to. "I don't want you to go." He said, bottling up his anger .""I want you to stay with me, forever." His shaky voice stabilized and was replaced by a tone of stubborn determination. "I won't let anyone take you from me. Especially not this 'Lord' Crayak. The only one who has that right is you, so I'll be damned and fallen before I let anyone take you from me."

Midnight's heart was pounding violently against her chest, something that had never happened often enough to get used to. Seraph wanted her to stay, she should be relieved, but then why did she feel so absolutely horrible?

"You're already fallen." She said with a small, forced smile. "My fallen angel." The demon summoned up what courage and sanity she had left and closed the gap between them, nuzzling against the side of his neck, and instantly she was reassured. Everything was going to work out, and they were going to be alright. She let out a small, relaxed sigh, and then she was finally able to pull herself back together.

"I'm sorry Seraph." She said, pulling back. "I should have told you before, it's just, I didn't know how you would react." Naturally, the demon had thought that the angel would be revolted at the fact that she was hardly more than the whore of some lord of hell. She didn't want to lose her mate, even if they had only been together for the blink of an eye in the life of immortal beings.

She found herself staring back down at the ground. She felt better if only because Seraph hadn't chased her off or demanded that she leave yet. Still, she felt like she had betrayed his trust, and that alone made her feel like less than nothing.

Seraph returned the nuzzle. Her apology was enough to make him feel better, though he was still a bit weary of the situation. "You should know me better than that by now, Midnight." He said, a small smile returning to his face. "Just tell me these things. It pains me to think that don't trust me enough for that." He sat beside the demon and rested his body against hers. "I'm more than ready to take any bad that comes with the good."

'There's alot more bad than you know.' Midnight thought grimly. In mere minutes Crayak had managed to reverse what she had spent thousands of years creating for herself. And she would have to face him again, but no matter how much time she spent preparing for that moment, would she stick to the plan or would it all simply melt away?

Her body shivered slightly at the contact with the angel, just as it did every time. It took her soul time to get used to the danger close proximity of a creature like Seraph, something whose pure aura overpowered her dark and violent one. As before, it was uncomfortable at first, it pained her to be in contact with her mate.

But Midnight could mask the pain, she never let it show, and as far as she could tell Seraph didn't know about this. The demon intended to keep it that way, a minor discomfort was worth fighting through to be with Seraph.

"I trust you." She said with a small sigh, "I trust you more than anyone I have ever known." That was why she let her true emotions show around him, why she had first introduced him to Snowball, why she had fallen in love with him. Still, there were some things that she just wasn't ready to reveal to him yet.

Seraph smiled at the demon's response. "Good." he said. Whether it was selfish of him to want to keep her all to himself, he didn't really care. And if it came down to it, he'd confront this Lord Crayak too. To whatever end that meant. "Listen, Midnight... I love you... You know that, but don't forget it ok?" he looked off out a nearby window. "No matter what Lord Crayak does or says, I love you." That was the truest thing in his world. No-one could take that from him. With most of his power taken away and nowhere to go in the world, Midnight was the one thing that kept him going through his exile. And he was truly thankful for it.

"I love you too." Midnight echoed, her immortal unbeating heart swelling slightly and her blood running warm. She nuzzled against his side and smiled through the hot pinpricks of light digging into her flesh and soul and driving her to the edge of her control. Yet, despite the pain it caused, it was one of the most wonderful sensations she had ever known.

In truth, she wanted to make it up to Seraph, this could be an opportunity to prove that she really wanted to stay with the angel no matter what. But would he even have her in her current state? She wouldn't blame him if he didn't even want to touch her after what he had found out about her, but still.

She grazed her teeth lightly over one powerful shoulder. "I'm sorry, again..." She murmured softly, moving up and planting a soft kiss on his neck. "But I don't want to leave your side." She continued, a small smile on her face.

Seraph nuzzled his mare. She was so cute when she was being apologetic. "Then don't." he said as he closed the distance between the two. He made the kiss last, enjoying each small moment of it while he could. He didn't care about her previous life. All he cared about was the time they spent together. He broke their embrace, a small blush crossing his face. "This really isn't the place for this." he hinted. She more than anyone else would understand what he meant.
