Alpha returned home from Veanna's apartment with only one bag of alcohol. The other remained smeared on the wall in the hallway where the apartment was located. He was angry, Vea allways made a big fuss when he left, even though he'd told her that his job was dangerous and that the less she knew the better. But one thing that reall bugged him was that other Pegasus that was there with her. The more he sobered up, the more it didn't make any sense to him.
He decided to just crack open a bottle, flip the store sign to "closed" and sat at his desk, where he began to drink his anger into submission. Just who the hell was that pony? And why was he with Veanna? He'd be investigating that for sure...

Finally.
Glaive knew that Alpha was due to return to Ponyville this day, after having been gone for nearly two months. Alpha was a wild card, and not to be fully trusted. Normally Glaive kept an eye on him, but didn't interfere in his affairs. Today, though, was different.
Alpha had gone to Xi-Bian.
Xi-Bian was Jade's homeland, and although she left of her own will, she still dearly loved the land of her birth. If Alpha meant any harm to Xi-Bian, Glaive would know. Whether Alpha liked it or not.
Something had clearly not gone well for the red pegasus, however, as he angrily came home and began drinking heavily. Maybe it was for the best. Glaive stepped out of the shadow he was hiding in.
"Evening, Alpha."

Alpha looked at the assassin Glaive. He was really the only pony he considered a "friend" by any standard. "What do you want Glaive, I've had a shitty day." He said bluntly as he took another swig of alcohol. What could Glaive possibly want that would make it ok to disturb his moment of despair.

"Oh, that's nice."
Glaive walked up to Alpha's desk and sat down across from him. He put his hooves on the desk and leaned forward.
"You were in Xi-Bian. Why."

Oh great, now he was prying for info. He hated when Glaive did this. "I was doing work for one of the Triads. What's it to ya?" He just wanted to drink and think about the different ways he could focus all of his anger on Sky. Surely there was some sort of way he could ruin his life and make sure he stayed the hell away from Veanna. They had been in an embrace when he had entered right? There was no way that he was a close relative, like a brother or sister, and he doubted that she could have found one of her great grandchildren.

"Because my wife is from Xi-Bian, and she still loves that land. If you mean it any harm, she won't forgive you, and where JAde's anger goes, mine tends to follow."
Glaive leaned back and regarded Alpha again. Gone for two months, and the first thing he does is get drunk. Not a celebratory drunkeness, either - though it would make sense, considering he was just paid, this was not his reason for drinking. Considering how late he was getting home, he probably had stopped somewhere else.
"Trouble with Veanna?"

Alpha was silent for a moment. "... She got mad at me again..." He took another gulp of alcohol. Now that he thought about it, that was what got to him more than anything. She kept getting angry at him for leaving, even though he'd explained the situation and assured here that he would come back every time. "But then there was still another matter "And she was with some guy when I went to see her."

Glaive listened to Alpha's words. His assessment was correct, then.
Veanna...once, she had been another roommate with Circle and Wild, along with her husband at the time, Zekiel Strongwing. That was all at the old Book Store. When it was destroyed along with Glaive and Circle's friendship at the time, Zeke had gone insane. Somehow, the Void had made contact with his mind, and pushed him into attempted murder of his wife. From what Glaive understood, Princess Luna stopped him. Later, Zeke had tried to kill him as well, as part of a ploy to take Glaive under the control of the Void as well. He nearly succeeded, but Glaive had managed to avoid falling under the Void's control. They were both hospitalized, and while Zeke was in the hospital, Veanna had sought her revenge...
Glaive shook his head. Veanna wasn't truly in control of her own actions either - she had been manipulated by a terrible demon that had parasitically latched on to her very soul. That demon was dead, now, killed by the greatest bladecaster Glaive had ever know. Even so, Zeke had been a friend, and Glaive missed him. It made it difficult to think well of Veanna.
"Was the other stallion with her, or with her with her?

"As far as I can remember, they were just huggin or something when I got there." he said, recalling the image in his mind. "I was already smashed before I walked in. But how do I know it wasn't gonna lead anywhere?" Alpha laid his head on the desk. It made him sick to think of something like that. "... You don't think she would... do you?" maybe she was getting tired of him? Maybe this was her way of replacing him while he was gone. Or maybe she wanted to end it all entirely.

Glaive shrugged. "I don't know Veanna all that well," he lied. He didn't really think he was the best pony to be giving somepony else relationship advice, considering that the only relationship he ever had ended in marriage. Though some might argue that would make him the best pony to give relationship advice.
"Maybe you should talk to her. Once you sober up, at least."

Alpha scoffed. "Sober... Right..." It was probably for the better that he stop drinking for a bit. He didn't want to be wasted when he went to confront Veanna about her 'houseguest'. He stood up, using the desk as a support "I should probably--" his hoof slipped and he crashed to the floor. "... Ow..." He really was a wreck. He couldn't even keep things straight in his own relationship, how was he supposed to work knowing it might be crumbling to pieces?

Glaive sighed and stood up. He walked over to the fallen spy and prodded him with a hoof.
"You certainly aren't solving anything like this."
He sighed again and bent down, helping the red pegasus to his hooves. When Alpha merely fell down again, Glaive decided to just carrying him bodily instead. He unceremoniously dumped the tall pony in his bed.
"Get some sleep, and talk to her tomorrow morning."
He turned to leave, then stopped and looked back.
"...Tell her that she might want to take a break from Ponyville for a while. That goes for you, too, and for anyone else you might care for."

Alpha rolled over, already passed out. He'd speak with Veanna tomorrow morning. And he'd find out who this mystery pony was too. And Glaive was right too, they should get out of town, just the two of them. Then maybe they could salvage what remained of their relationship while they could.
