Silent Wit departed the train, his nap having done him good. It was evening now, and but a few hours earlier he had been in his apartment, doing what he did best. After he had gotten what he could from what he knew he compiled the findings into a small report, which was now resting inside of Wit's saddlebags.
He made his way through the bustling city, reflecting on it. He had grown up there, but that in itself was a bad memory. He didn't like the city, either. It was a charmed life they lived on the side of a mountain with a palace looming over them. Still, the war had shaken them, he was sure. Despite his dislike for the city, even he didn't want to see that happen again.
Wit came up to the gates of the large manor that was Solaris' estate. I suppose Strike is the marshal of the military now. And a knight, but he's always been that. He thought as he was shown through the gates. There was security, but it seemed like it was open to the public, given how easy it was to get through the gates.
That question was answered when he entered what looked like the obvious entrance. There were ponies living in the manor, and Wit didn't remember Strike mentioning such an expensive family. They all look like... vagrants. Of course, he would do that. I wonder if he has a PR agent, and if so, I wonder how easy their job is...
Wit pulled aside what he assumed was a guard and he asked him for directions to Solaris. After explaining why he was visiting, he was led to the marshal. The guard announced him, and Wit entered. He levitated a folder from his saddlebag. "I've got something for you."

Solaris was at the time reading over reports from the south. The Diamond Dog problem was getting worse and the military didn't have the standing horsepower to deal with it.
Solaris looked up once the door was knocked on. He put away the folder he was looking at into a drawer. He nodded as Wit came into his office and took the folder with his magic, opening it to read.
"I hope this is good news." He said as he opened it up.

"You know what I'm working on, you take a guess." Wit said wearily. The report mostly detailed everything he had learned about Alpha Protocol over the last few days. His location, from the penthouse in Fillydelphia to his current whereabouts, New Saddle. It also had a rough physical and psychological description of Protocol, which read: "Protocol is a crimson coated pegasi. His mane is maroon with yellow highlights, and is short and messy. He has many piercings and scars, most notably a scar over his left eye. Subject has pale green eyes. He is a well trained spy, but seems to lack some of the paranoia a veteran spy might be expected to have. He has a propensity for living well, if the penthouse and resort are any indication. Seems easily distracted by sex. Side note: He seems to have some sort of power, magical based, it would seem. Something to do with suggestion. It More observation needed."
It also detailed how he must have some form of funding, given his penthouse and the resort. After the information about Protocol a new section began on Equestrian Intelligence Agent 025. She was currently posing at Protocol's business and sexual partner. Wit had met with her, and he had detailed the information he had learned form her. Specifically, that Protocol was but one part of a larger plan. He, through her, was the cause of a recent crime boost in Fillydelphia. It was all a part of something bigger, so big, that the target was the throne. She also mentioned that Protocol couldn't be killed or captured, as she had tried to do so, and he simply reappeared. She had mentioned something along the lines of 'otherworldly forces.' That needed more exploration. 025 would leave information in drop boxes for EI, that would be shared with the Marshal from henceforth.
As Solaris read, Wit took a seat nearby, waiting for Solaris to read through it. He fidgeted, however. Something was bothering him, clearly.

Solaris skimmed through the report, getting the gist of it before setting it down. He'd read it fully after Wit left. He looked to wit offering a smile.
"This is good work." He started as he noticed wit's fidgeting. "Whats bothering you?"

"Oh, uh nothing..." Wit said, suddenly going stock still. He was clearly lying, and he made a weak attempt at hiding it. He sighed. "I'm worried. This is big, and only three beginning. We need to nip it in the bud. Somehow. But Protocol can't be killed and he's only one part of it. Who else is involved? What if he is? Then there's this otherworldly business. I'm not happy with it."
The fidgeting began again as he spoke. "We only just started recovering. The war was a lot for most ponies. What will this do? How do we fight it? I guess you, rather, but still..."

Solaris sighed and opened his desk drawer and retrieved the folder he was reading before. "Things aren't exactly going our way either." He passed the folder along looking down a moment.
The Folder Solaris passed would detail the remnants of the Diamond Dog forces in southern Equestria. A couple hundred strong, entrenched but not actively attacking towns... Acting more like bandits then an army.
"The Royal guards are a defensive force and the army was disbanded... Equestria doesn't have a centralized army. I'm trying to change that but fucking Commander Shortfuse is blocking every single motion I put forward fix this. " Solaris, breaking character for a moment, actually swore. He looked angry but more upset than anything.
"Either way I'm gathering a small smount of Knights and volunteers and I'm going to try and rout them, numbers or no."

"Wow... you really are mad. That's impressive. Better hope there weren't any ponies listening in. It wouldn't do to have Sir Solaris Strike to curse. Though that would make an excellent tabloid." Wit tapped a thoughtful hoof to his chin momentarily before coming serious again. "It's unsettling to know that the military, or rather, the royal guard, aren't in a good position, as well."
"Why does Commander Shortfuse have the ability to stonewall you like this? You are the bloody marshal, I thought. Can't you just override him?"

"Like I said: The royal guard is not the army. I'm Marshal of the Knights of The Rising Sun. So, I can order around the Royal guard and the army once its formed. However, as it stands the army is only formed by volunteers and the household guards of the Various noble families. Shortfuse represents the nobility's interests. Where I want to make it so the crown controls the levies Shortfuse wants to keep the status quo. The problem is that the status quo is what delayed our armed resposne to such a ridiculous degree when the war started." Solaris explained as he leaned back.
"So, this has created a political standstill. The Princesses have been oddly quiet about this issue. I'm a little stressed and aggravated as a result." He paused again "Anyway, you looked concerned before: Why?"

"Joy, politics." Wit said with zero amusement in his voice. Change was coming, and Canterlot needed to be prepared. If political stonewalling was stopping Solaris then Wit could only hope ponies changed their mind before some sort of wake-up call occurred.
"Think about it. Supposedly, the target is the throne. But their plan right now doesn't seem to be any sort of massive invasion. If anything, it looks like destabilization is their goal. Higher crime rates in Fillydelphia? That's pretty far in Equestrian territory, so making cities easy targets doesn't seem to be the goal. They're working from within, and, so far, it's working."
"I'm concerned because if this gets much worse, how do we know who we're fighting? We know about Protocol, sure, but there's more pieces on the board than him. Then there's the faceless mass of criminals in Fillydelphia. If what's happening there happens in other cities, what happens? How do you fight that?"

Solaris nodded and flipped through the file again as Wit spoke. He wasn't ignoring Wit by any means, he was listening rather intently.
"I don't know Wit." Solaris said as he put the file down and rubbed his face tiredly with a hoof. "If the lines will be that blurry it would only spread paranoia and distrust. Especially if the Government went on to give a statement about potential traitors and spies within Equestria. It would make friends and neighbors suspicious of eachother, at the very least." He paused sighing.
"I don't know how to fight in such a situation. Espionage is not my strong suit... Hell, I had thought Alpha a friend only a few short weeks ago." To say te least: Solaris looked troubled. "I guess the only answer I can give you as to how we fight such a thing is... However we can."

Wit's brow furrowed more. He didn't like not knowing what to do. He let out a sigh and then stood. "I suppose I'll leave it to you, then. I'll keep following up on Protocol if you don't mind. Let me know if you need help on anything else. I think the rest of my cases are going to have to be put on hold for the moment.
He collected himself then moved to the door. "I won't take up any more of your time. Is there anything else before I make my leave?"
