It had been an interesting month for Jane. Returning to Canterlot under the guise of framing a Canterlot official had been very beneficial to her actual role as an Equestrian spy. She would accomplish the task, but not before briefing EI-6, her new ‘business associate’ Silent Wit and possibly even Marshal Solaris Strike, should he choose to accept her invitation. She had timed the invitations to work in a rather timed manner, where EI-6 would be the last participant to arrive, for strategic reasons.

Jane now sat in the library of Castor Manor, the home of Marshal Solaris Strike and the many ponies who stayed there under nothing more than his good graces. Her current appearance was exactly like the knight himself, despite being smaller in frame and female. Her hair was a golden shine along with her eyes in the candlelight she sat in. It was during the late hours of the evening and she knew full well that this section of the manor was closed off to the public. Before her lied a series of history books of lore all around Equestria. In truth she had no idea what to even look for. She was just biding time until the other participants in the meeting arrived.

Solaris was still on edge from the night before. Alpha had gotten into his home and threatened a child of all things...

Now though there was somepony else in his manor uninvited. First Wing, then Alpha and now this. He was just about done with the whole situation.

He walked into the Library, his original gem-sword in his harness. Solaris took too using an actual metal sword, if only because this sword had sentimental value.

The door creaked open and Solaris stepped in a bit and spotted... Himself? Herself? What?

He stood there with a very confused look on his face. He waited for the mare to look up, as if trying to see if she was actually there. Then nodded for no reason before turning right around, walking out and closing the door behind him.

Jane did not look up from the books. She knew Solaris had entered; she was watching from the corner of her eye. She instead turned the page of the book before her. The pages showed various Equestrian deities of legend and folktale. She noticed that he turned and left and she smirked, doing her best to keep from bursting out into laughter. She loved pranking others with her ability, but only to those she knew it was safe to reveal her nature to.

The gate opened before him and he gave a quick nod to the guard posting there. By this point the guards had begun to recognize Silent Wit, which he was grateful for. He was getting tired of being mistaken for one of the ponies staying within the manor, due to Solaris' generosity. He was starting to wonder if he could sneak in, actually, but that wouldn't be needed anymore.

Wit followed along the hallways as the guards had directed. He asked where Solaris was and they said he was spotted heading toward the library. Odd. Solaris didn't send me that card, or rather, invitation. If he wanted to send a letter it'd be more personalized. Cards aren't really his thing... So who would invite me to Castor manor... that isn't a Castor? Very few options, and they all give me a headache.

Wit rounded a corner to see Solaris standing next to a set of doors. I didn't know an albino could look so... pale. Wit snarked to himself as he moved forward. He didn't bother addressing Solaris and instead opened the doorway, revealing all he needed to see. Yep. Headache. He sighed before looking at Solaris. "It's... it's her thing, don't worry about it too much."

After that he entered and moved to the table, taking a seat. He looked at Jane with his natural deadpan expression and his lips curled into a faint amused smile. "Cute." He said, raising his brows with it. The fact that it had unnerved Solaris was amusing, but also telling. Something must have happened that he wasn't aware of. His brow furrowed automatically. He turned his head toward the door. "Well, come on, marshal!"

Jane’s playful smirk grew when she saw how Wit reacted to the situation much better than the Marshal did. She was actually pleasantly surprised he recognized her so quickly. “I thought it was funny.” she replied as she finally looked up from her book at Wit. She placed her hooves on the table before them and looked at the Marshal eagerly. “Though my eye color was off. It’s much easier to copy somepony when you know the little details.” she stated as her eyes changed to a blue color. She then began to comb her mane with her hooves and it began to change color to a dark, deep blue color. She did this casually, as if the spells required no concentration.

Solaris gave Wit a look of pure hate "I don't need your shit right now." He said rather flatly as he followed his friend in. He looked to Jane with a now apathetic expression, moving over to the table and sitting down.

He sighed deeply and looked over at Jane when she began to change her form again... He looked tired.

"Right." He responded with before laying his head down on the table. "My patience is thin... What are you doing in my home?"

"If I had to guess by the calling card," Wit produced a invitation from his vest, "I would say it's not to waste our time and to deliver a report personally. Why this is being done without any other EI involved or why you're doing it personally, I haven't the slightest idea. Though the first thought that pops into my head is that this means it's something more important and can't wait. And if that case, oh, boy."

"So, to that end, I've got some questions for you. Why did you sneak in, where's EI, what's so important, and what's your job now? Then, when you're done with that..." Wit raised a hoof to point at Solaris. "It's your turn to share with the class. You're not just a little pissy, you're right mad. And I don't think it's Shortfuse, despite the constant annoyance of that stallion. What happened?"

Jane stopped what she was doing and looked at Wit with some concern as he answered Solaris’ question for him. He obviously wasn’t about to let her answer any obvious questions. She was done styling her mane anyhow. “Clandestine was right. You are annoying at times, Silent Wit. But I suppose that comment comes out of context without my official report, now doesn’t it?” she said as she set one of the scrying crystals and her small reader tablet on the table before them. “But not to dispense with formalities. Marshal and Sir Solaris Strike, I am Agent Twenty-Five from EI-6. I apologize for my intrusion at this hour but in my field of work the less trace you leave of yourself, the better. Even sending an invitation to Silent Wit can be considered a risk. After scouting your mansion, I knew that your security runes would bring your attention.” she explained as she prepared her devices.

“Mentioning that, Silent Wit please burn that note whenever appropriate. Also it’s good to see that you’re alive and well and that there is no need to alter those circumstances.” she said with a grin as she looked at him. Before them a magical hologram would appear and display the scene of anything within fifteen of the scrying crystals could be seen. Jane seemed to tweak something on the tablet, adjusting the audio timing since they were two separate devices. “I’ll exclude the facts of my previous brief since I’m certain you’ve received that by now.” she stated, speaking of the last intel drop she had made, shortly after Wit’s appearance. “My handler from EI-6 will be arriving shortly, so he can sit in on the meeting. I apologize for inviting more guests to your home under the circumstances, Sir. Informally, I’ll simply state that I intend to brief him as quickly as possibly. And by quickly, I mean conveniently. Ahh, here we have it.” She rambled on as she sped through the playback of her scrying crystal.

In the scene before them, Alpha, Bella and Clandestine were sitting at a table having a discussion. “Which leads to my second reason, which is that even if you did try and incriminate him, he has a very annoying detective friend.” came Clandestine’s voice. “Congratulations Mister Silent Wit. You’re so good at your job that you’ve spared our Noble friend here from Alpha’s plans. Which, I’ll explain if you don’t bombard me with questions before I can offer explanations.” she offered.

Solaris sat back straight once Wit mentioned how mad he was. He nodded and ran his hooves through his mane.

"Right. Sorry I was rude." He said sighing and looking on as Jane went ahead and started the briefing. He cocked an eyebrow at Jane once she said he was spared from Alpha's plans.

"I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but... I most certainly am NOT excluded from Alpha's plans. Want to know why I'm on edge and angry?" He looked between the two, now considerably less mopey but far more angry

"Alpha broke in last night, knocked out the nursery attendant and used a foal as a shield just so he could 'talk to me." He explained.

"He made a mistake of putting the foal down, I tackled him and teleported us both into the Lunarium, west wing. Then I stabbed him through the heart." He summed up the situation glareing at Jane. "Did you know he explodes when he dies?"

Wit tensed and his left eye visibly twitched at the mention of that name. First, nothing but surprise, then a good deal of anger, then dread. Those then repeat a few times as he processed the information, only faintly listening to the briefing. He eventually snapped out of it by the time the recording played. "Oh, good." Was all he mustered, and it was filled with disdain.

Wit was much more aware when Solaris spoke, though his mind was in overdrive. He was already recalling every piece of information about Clandestine, and how it might pertain to the current situation. Among other things, Wit was trying to figure out how he became involved, and what he was doing currently. He put that all aside, though. He had to pay attention now. It had become distinctly personal.

Despite his shock and other emotions he became deadpan. "I'm sorry... did you say he exploded?"

Jane sat there, expressionless as she looked between Solaris and Wit. Finally she spoke up as she backed her recording up a bit. “Yes sir, I did know he exploded. I did not know that he decided to visit you last night. He’s prone to capricious actions and, as I’m certain Private Investigator Silent Wit has informed you, is quite unpredictable.” she explained, before looking at Wit. “I truly don’t need IE-6 training to tell that ‘Clandestine’ is a trigger word for you, Mister Wit. Both of you seem to have prior relationships to these ponies and I’ll need to know that before I continue. Collaboration is important.” she stressed. She then looked back to Solaris. “Sir, I hope nopony sustained injury from Alpha’s… death sequence. My latest report should have demonstrated the effects.” she commented.

"Stop." Solaris said looking to Jane "Don't call me Sir. You aren't my subordinate, we're equals here." He took a moment to compose himself, eyes closed. It was clear this home invasion really shook him up.

When he re-opened his eyes its like he was somepony else entirely. Gone was the anger and the sarcasam, it was the face and attitude of a leader.

"I suspect I would have died had I not had the good sense to put on the chest protection part of my armor. As you can imagine thats gone, the Balefire obliterated that along with my Shardblade while also making a crater in my floor. The Lunarium was empty, its why I teleported us there... I can even show you when we're done." He explained, his voice far more steady than it was before.

"Now, allow me to formally apologize. I imagine that the two of you meeting was... Unpleasant. Had I known I would not have asked Wit to intervene. As it was I had precious little information on Alpha and was not about to let him run around unchecked. It was a personal request."

"I knew of the otherwordly faction shortly after the war ended. Our Prisoner, Tinago, gave me as much. The Crown Prince of Whinn's gained the ability to sense the void's drones. A scar that causes him a burning pain when nearby. It is how I originally found out Alpha was a traitor and empowered by the void."

"Me and Alpha were friends before the war. He helped me track down some criminals... Even saved my life once." He looked down a moment. "We were up north, An outpost went dark and I was sent along with Alpha to find out why. Initial findings suggested it was Griffons that attacked the outpost. We later confirmed this wasn't the case and that the bodies were planted. I now doubt that outcome because of the War we just finished fighting." He explained looking up a moment. "An avalanche brought a huge amount of ice and snow onto our location and it was with his help I even got out of that alive." He looked to Wit

"Clandestine is more Wit's story. My involvement was limited to saving Wit after he was kidnapped at the Reichnbach Opera house. Me and another Mercenary literally gutted Clandestine's organization. He had an entire complex under the theater. I had to of cut down at least thirty of his thugs." He explained nodding to Wit.

"Trigger, yes..." Wit said, but let Solaris speak. He nodded along, taking in the information. It might prove useful, as he had discovered, sometimes dots were connected by the strangest lines. "Yes, a personal favor, one that almost got me killed, though it was a good bit of fun. I remember a rather imaginative death threat from you, actually." He nodded to Jane.

Wit took a deep breath and corrected his glasses, not that he needed to. "I'm not sure what he told you, but let me give you the basics. Clandestine once owned the criminal underworld of Equestria, running it all from, as Solaris has pointed out, the Reichenbach Opera house. Not that he didn't have plenty of holds in other cities. Nine years ago he forced me off the tallest building in Fillydelphia into the river in the middle of winter. As you can see, I survived, though it was a small miracle, and not without its costs. Eight years ago, I found enough to link him to his criminal activities, leading to my kidnap and eventual rescue by Solaris and another. He escaped and since then has been completely quiet, until now. I don't know why he's coming back but it must mean he grew bored, and that's unsettling in itself."

"So, with that out of the way, how did he get involved with Protocol and what's his role?" Wit was also dead serious, he had even leaned into the table, his forelegs resting on it as he spoke.

Jane looked between Wit and Solaris. She honestly didn’t know what to call Solaris at the moment. He was the first noble that had been so humble to refuse the title. He truly was, as Clandestine stated, a saint. In her eyes she found that to be a very attractive feature and she could instantly accept him as a leader when he explained his position outright. She fiddled with her playback device a moment. “I’m sorry for the loss of your equipment. When I find out how to retrieve the knife I killed him with, I’ll be sure seek out your armaments as well.” she commented before stopping the playback right before the recent meeting with Clandestine.

“Alpha has stated that we were waiting for Clandestine during our time in New Saddle. Apparently he is the key to Alpha’s large plan. Which, this is the first I’ve heard of the void, but we can assume that he’s working for them, if anything. According to him and my latest intel-drop from New Saddle, the name of the entity that has granted Alpha the ability to respawn and that… charm ability of his is Dream Deceiver. The grand plan of hers is to ensue chaos about Equestria and somehow target the throne of Equestria itself. Apparently the Diamond Dogs are just pawns to be expended in this endeavor. This was our meeting, only a few days ago.” she stated, tapping the tablet.

The playback device would recall the events of the recent meeting in New Saddle. It would include everything from when they met at the beach and end after Alpha left. The scene would explain that this was merely phase two of their plan. The Diamond Dogs would be abandoned to their caves and foxholes, as they would become their graves only to act as a mere distraction. Jane would be used to incite chaos and cause distrust in the public officials. Clandestine would raid targets with mercenaries as a means of deceptive warfare. There was still a phase three to the plan that had yet to be revealed. “My unqualified assessment is that Alpha, Clandestine and ultimately Dream Deceiver plan to distract the entirety of Equestria before making a move on the throne. My assumption is that they would accomplish this here in Canterlot with a team of… shall we call them ‘voidlings’.” she stated.

Solaris squinted at the recording and then gave a sideways glance at Jane as she explained what the Diamond Dogs really were.

"Even if the Diamond Dogs are a smoke screen They're something we can't afford to ignore. If their goal is destabilization ignoring them would allow that t happen." He grunted "I hate knowingly playing into plans..." He stroked his chin with his hoof.

"The mercenaries are a problem as well. The small army I'm building can barely fight the Dogs." He let out a breath "What this information tells me is that I need to stay in the capital, they want me to leave."

"Getting my bill passed is priority one now... We need a bigger presence." His lip rose a bit in anger but it quickly dissipated "This all comes back to Shortfuse and his stonewalling me. I need to bypass him entirely..."
