"Besides the dogs being an actual threat unto themselves, if we ignored them and started reacting to their plans too quickly they'll begin to suspect something is amiss. The suspicion would then, likely, fall upon the agent here, and would end badly for her, and us. For now we've no choice but to act as we normally would, I think."

"That being said, I'll do what I can to figure out how they plan on getting to their end goal. Right now diversion seems to be their focus. Mercenaries, continuing rise of civil unrest and distrust of Equestria's government... This leaves Protocol. He's told you nothing of his own endeavors during this time, yes? If that's the case, they may involve the void, whatever the hell that is... I suppose I can try to dig up more on that, as well."

Wit's always-furrowed brow furrowed even further. He would have to move to Canterlot temporarily. He would need continuing access to Solaris, EI, and any other information resource.

Jane sat and let the two stallions assess their situation. She listened with some intrigue as Solaris mentioned a problem he was having with somepony, as she stored the name for future reference. Wit's statement was incredibly accurate and she was surprised that he was taking precautions on her behalf. She appreciated his insight and she might thank him for it later. Maybe. "Protocol's endeavor's are ultimately irrelevant to the large-scale picture. He wants out. Dream Deceiver has him trapped as her agent and he is without a chance on disobeying her will. His plans after all of this are said and done involve moving to another country and settling down, despite his family in Ponyville." she stated as she took the tablet and scrying crystal back. The objects seemed to disappear into her coat as she hid them away.

"Ultimately our foe is this Dream Deceiver figure. I've no idea who or what she might be. Alpha's powers are... like nothing I've seen before. I believe you called it Balefire?" she said, looking at Solaris. She bit her tongue when she was about to append her question with 'sir'.

"Balefire." Solaris repeated "As far as I know it comes directly from the void's leader, you've named them as Dream Deciever. It is the same substance that wiped hoofington off of the map. We have reliable intel that the Zebras deployed the Balefire that committed the deed." He explained his tone shaking just a bit.

"Wavelength's family died in Hoofington... I think it affected his mental state. I think it may have indirectly caused his death." He shook his head to get back on track. "Tinago told me that some Zebras worship this Dream Deciever as their god. Balefire seems to be its power source."

He tightened a bit once he got back to Alpha "I don't know what to do about Alpha. I had a feeling he was being manipulated... but I'm of a mind to arrest him when its over. Hes done too much for me to be lenient." He said being completely honest.

Jane nodded at Solaris' explanation of the void and balefire. She was certain that this was all of the information he had and he seemed to have had much more personal experience than he'd like. She was actually horrified to hear that balefire was the force behind the bomb that removed a city. Alpha's involvement with such forces was now much scarier than his fake immortality. "Alpha is a fugitive responsible for war crimes. If there was a way to arrest him by now, I would have. Such a method, barring magical means that I've yet to hear of, might involve keeping him unconscious forever and knocking out all of his teeth. And even then... His time will come." she stated and then looked at Wit. "Keeping tabs on mercenaries and any recent employment would likely lead you directly to Clandestine's attacks and better prepare the defenses. But I'm certain you've already a few ideas on tracking that." she explained, her comment coming more as a compliment than sarcasm.

"Indeed. More than a few. I'll keep abreast of that situation and update Strike as required. Though again I caution of striking too early. If anything I should be able to learn more of Clandestine's resources and how he facilitates his endeavors." Wit huffed and sat back. He wanted to focus more on the situation with Clandestine, but he didn't think there was anything left. More would come later. For now...

"As much as I am personally involved with Clandestine, I think he requires less attention than Protocol. There must be some way to remove him from the equation, or at least block his abilities. I'll contact who I can and search the archives regarding such magical bollocks. Something must exist that can keep him tethered."

"My task set out, I need to be in Canterlot to fulfill it properly. Strike, I'm going to need one of your rooms. Any one with space and a desk should work fine." Wit said it as though it was a given, not expecting much of a retort.

"I'm not worried about Clandestine's mercs." Solaris said, actually smirking. "Wit, once you feel its safe to deal with them you tell me and it'll be done. I have a plan." He said nodding.

"Right, I'm sure I can find you a desk." Solaris replied before looking to Jane.

"Is there anything you need me to do? I realize that your position is a dangerous one. I want to see you succeed more than anyone. I'd go very far to insure that."

Bella listened to the plans that Wit and Solaris had devised. Wit seemed to want to gather information and Solaris, ever the knight, wanted to route the mercenaries when the time came. "I truly appreciate the concern sir-- Sol-- Mister Strike." she said before clearing her throat. She was used to addressing nobles by at least some respectful title and, when not in the field, she worked around them often. "But if I simply wanted to update you both I would have simply left another intel-drop. I've come to speak with you both because I require two things outright. The first is complete and honest collaboration. One slip of false information could end my life and while I won't selfishly state that self-preservation is the big picture, I'll state that I'm much more valuable to Equestria in my current position than being tortured for information. You both have the ability to end my life even if you do not intend to. I need to know your plans, especially if and when you plan to act. Do you agree?" she asked, her pose upright and professional along with her tone.

"I have no objections, but how might we contact you to meet or inform you of our plans. I suspect you won't be able to waltz to Canterlot whenever you feel like it." Wit eyed the agent. Interesting. This explains why her handler isn't here. She planned for him to be late to the party. Asking for cooperation doesn't seem out of line, however... So I wonder if it's the second request.

"I don't think I'll be making many moves anytime soon, however. And Strike still has his volunteers to gather..."

Solaris chuckled a little bit at Jane's trouble "Strike is fine." he offered.

"Did you know we have allies?" Solaris asked cocking an eyebrow. "Recently, I personally helped Whinns, a country with a strong military culture, unify. Their army is as strong as Equestria's. Not as numerable but each individual is a veteran soldier just by virtue of living within Whinns. You see, they have a Lycan problem." He started looking between Jane and Wit.

"Their King made me an honorary member of his family at the behest of his Son, Prince Coeur. So, as it is we don't have to fight the militant side of their plans alone. I'm sure I could get the support of the Whinnish army."

"Now... The Diamond dogs." He said taking a moment to collect his thoughts. "My army of volunteers will not be able to route the Diamond Dogs conventionally, I fear." He explained as he drew his Crystal Shardblade, without the fire.

"I don't know how much you both know about bladecasting but I can feel the location of my blade's separate parts, even over long distances. I plan on using my volunteers to give the illusion of a conventional response. The trick is, I have allies in a unique position for them to be able to spread my Shardblade's parts throughout their underground compound." He explained as his sword broke into its ten parts.

"I can send a surge of energy into each one simultaneously, with enough force to bury them all alive."

Jane did her best to withhold her smile as she listened to Strike speak of his plans. It was all very sound to her mind, though she was the espionage specialist, not the military tactician. Perhaps he was a bit of a historian as well, with his tales of past conquest. She felt herself finding the already pretty stallion a bit more attractive, but did away with the thought quickly. Now was not the time. “I’m grateful for both of your openness to information and working together. Equestria does not have time for political power plays, a concept I’m sure-- Strike is familiar with.” she stated, almost struggling not to say ‘sir’. She then glanced a look at Wit.

“Contacting me brings me to my second request. My handler, whom I’ll now keep informed of my every move and action, will always have a way to contact me and I will maintain a method for daily communication. The reason why I’m just now involving my handler, well… I wish there was a tactful way to state that he lacks the intuition of a field agent and wants me off of this case. From him, reports of me will be… greatly exaggerated and denigrating. But I can handle dealing with him when he arrives shortly. The second request I have, gentlecolts, is support. I’ll need a vouch from a private investigator to give a third party analysis and a military official to give his guidance on whether or not I should remain a part of this mission.” she explained to them both.

"Bold plan, try not to take half of Equestria down with it." Wit said, before letting Jane speak. He was sure Strike was more than capable to plan and execute his tunnel collapse, but figured he'd get a word in edgeways. The more he thought about the diamond dogs, though, the more concerned he became. If they were ultimately meant as only one tool in the plan, what more remained after?

"I suppose I had planned on doing that anyways, but what makes you think this handler's just going to trust this third party, or should I say, me?" Wit didn't really like the idea of checking EI's findings, but he was going to end up doing it, anyways. It's just now they would actually want a report back from him.

Having been through Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns, Solaris was well versed in history, magical theory and philosophy.

"I see. Exaggerated or honest I wonder? If what he says isn't too bad I'll support you... But I wont eat the fruit of the poisonous tree." He said nodding. "Fear not though, I understand the importance of monitoring Alpha."

Jane once again assessed the feedback she was receiving from the two stallions before her before speaking again. "Interestingly, Mister Wit, Clandestine has vouched for you. Your fair assessment of my performance holds weight. Meanwhile I promise nothing but honesty in my own reports, though my handle... You'll see what I mean." she explained as she focused on changing her coat to be a dark, midnight blue and gave herself a cutie mark of a crescent moon.

The door to the library creaked open and Jane stared at the disturbance for a moment. "I thought your entrance this time would be far more aggressive." she called out, seemingly at the door. Suddenly a figure dispelled his invisibility spell. A teal-colored stallion of average size was revealed, with a white mane and tail with a fog cloud for a cutie mark. This particular stallion approached the group with an extremely annoyed expression.

"I can't exactly do that when your proposed meeting location is in the middle of a noble's mansion in the evening hours of Canterlot. Rest assured, I'm no less angry about your insubordination." he spoke.

"As predicted. Marshal Solaris Strike, Mister Silent Wit, my handler; Silent Step."

"I suppose now that you need something from EI-6 you'll introduce me to your little project."

"If you've been even analyzing my intel-drops properly you'll understand why I haven't been able to make a formal report--"

"Don't even begin to formulate such excuses. You've had plenty of free time, especially with your dream catch Alpha Protocol. The scrying crystals from Fillydelphia suggest otherwise. Would you at least have the decency to not fuck while recording?" Silent Step retorted and it looked like he had actually reached across the room and slapped Jane. By this point he had reached the table they were at and sat down.

"Those scrying cyrstals were destroyed when Alpha burned the apartment down--"

"No, they weren't. You didn't sanitize the area post-operation and exposed yourself to the local police department. You're fortunate that we caught wind of your antics in time to stop them from investigating. You're also emotionally compromised and need to be pulled from this mission before you cause more havoc than the chaos in Fillydelphia."

"If our working relationship wasn't always a game of move and counter-move… You've no-one in place to watch Alpha, Clandestine or the Zebrican god that we're supposedly dealing with. The possible driving force behind the war, the power behind the Balefire bombs, the evil that dares to threaten the Sisters themselves, what other options do you have? I reserve no feelings towards Alpha. How dare you speak of such uncouth actions before nobility." she replied with a ferocity that made her threats to Wit seem like a slap on the wrist. She kept her professional pose and waited for Silent Step's reply. He lost his angry expression and looked between the other two stallions, quickly introducing himself.

"Marshal Solaris Strike, your reputation precedes you sir. I understand you've hired Silent Wit to investigate into Alpha Protocol as well?" he commented.

Solaris calmly began to read the historical text that Jane was while the two verbally dueled. He seemed uninterested with the argument and even less so at the handler's presence. When the handler finally remembered his manners and introduced himself Solaris gave no answer. He sat there, idly turning a page before looking up with an unamused look on his face.

"Are you both quite done?" he asked, eyebrow cocked and sight alternating between both handler and spy.

"Before we discuss anything there are rules." He started, looking back down at the book.

"One: This is a library, there will be no shouting. Two: Do not presume you talk for me. I can protect myself from 'uncouth' topics." He looked at Jane while calmly closing the cover on his book, he turned his head to the handler and his gaze was a hard one. Anyone who could see Solaris' eyes would get the feeling that he wasn't even looking at Silent Step, more like through him at some goal far beyond.

"Am I understood?" Solaris just seemed to exude an immense amount of pressure with his posture and voice.

The two Equestrian Intelligence ponies sat there, silently for only a moment, both surprised at Solaris' tone. "Yessir." they both replied in unison. Jane knew that Silent Step had been targeted by Solaris as well, given that he insisted on raising his voice to get his point across. Childish as the idea was, this made Jane feel a bit better about the scolding. Jane levitated a scrying crystal that just sort of appeared out of her coat and floated it over to Silent Step. "The latest on the situation is on this crystal. As my handler, I must seek additional tasking from you, lest I lose the support from EI-6 that I need to continue--"

"You mean be labeled as a rogue agent and cut off from Equestrian support?" Silent step interjected, his tone much more hushed, but still carrying its firm intent.

"Yes. Try as you might to stop or deny it, this must be pursued."

"Yes, but not by you. You're off the case. I expect to see you at work tomorrow." Step stated as he pocketed the crystal Jane had given him.

"Step, you cannot replace me. There is nopony else who can do this job. You replace me and not only do you raise suspicion from Alpha and Clandestine, but you also put whoever you try to insert at double the risk. I've enough rapport with--"

"If that's what you want to call it."

"That comment was immature."

"Are you listening to your own words? You just offered your career on a silver platter for this case. You're obviously emotionally compromised and you're going to get yourself and others killed."

"Keep me on this mission. If they succeed--"

"Why, so you can cause another Fillydelphia? I cannot begin to describe how big of a mess that is--."

"Because if they succeed, there'll be nothing left!" she forced her sentence finished, despite Step's third interruption. Both of them had kept their voices lower than normal talking volume. "How about a Balefire bomb in Fillydelphia? Or Manehatten? Or New Saddle?"

"Scare tactics? Really?"

"Reality tactics. The end justifies the means here, and that end is keeping our throne. Fillydelphia's current situation is largely comprised of gangsters killing gangsters with minimal innocents in the crossfire. That's just the bad preview of their plans. Hopefully we never have to see them."

"You're still off the mission, Agent Twenty-Five." Step stated, his position firm.
