A not so brief briefing; Coeur/Wit

Solaris was lounging in a chair within his personal study. It was as spartan styled as his office but rather had effort put into its decor. Soft carpet, paintings and all.

Just an hour ago Solaris sent for both Silent Wit and Coeur Greystone to meet him here. He knew Coeur was in Canterlot and thus it was a simple matter to simply send a messenger with the time and place of meeting.

And so he waited, idly sipping a small glass of Prench wine for his friends to arrive. It was to be an introduction of sorts... Solaris only hoped Coeur could handle Wit's large amounts of snark.

When Coeur got the message, the prince had eagerly made his way to Solaris' home. Almost a little too eagerly, some might say. Truth be told, the sienna unicorn had begun to get a little bored due to the lack of exciting events.

Wandering Equestria and keeping an eye on things can only entertain someone for so long, after all.

"Hello, brother." Coeur smiled as he entered the study. "I'd ask if you've been well but I get the feeling this is a business meeting, aye?" His smile faded slightly.

"I would hope so, I'm busy. Some of us don't have time to sit around and drink... what is that, Prench? Whatever. Wine." Wit's voice came from behind Coeur, arriving just after the Whinnish Prince. He sounded bitter, and in fact looked annoyed. However, sompeony like Solaris would know that was simply Wit being himself, and he wasn't all that bothered. Anypony unfamiliar with his general disdain might not catch that, though.

Wit closed the door behind him, then looked over to Coeur. "Prince Greystone? This should be fun. I hope I wasn't invited to listen to old war stories..." Unlikely, this is probably Solaris' solution to those mercenary attacks... More knights... At least he looks like one. Rapier is an interesting choice, but I'm sure it works for them. His eyes glanced between the marshal and the prince quickly. Solaris wouldn't just trust anypony... well, he probably would, but that's besides the point. They became friends because of battle... Fire-forged or some other sort of warrior nonsense. Either way, he should be trustworthy.

The train of thought was over in a second and Wit turned his head expectantly to Solaris.

"I see you know of Coeur already." Solaris said as he floated over his glass of wine to a table as he stood up.

"This is Silent Wit, a close friend of mine. His bark is far worse than his bite." He said smirking "I've brought you both here because I felt it is time for you both to meet. Coeur also has intel on the void that I feel is better coming from his mouth rather than my own."

Coeur turned and smirked at Wit. "Aye. Well, even if we don't really have time, ye seem like ye could stand to have a sip or two, Ser Wit. And yes, I'm Prince Coeur Greystone of Whinns. Well met."

Coeur nodded at Solaris' comment. "I do, indeed. What would ye like to know?"

"I generally do when I'm not working, it doesn't help." Wit asided. "As for the void, how do you know so much, exactly? And after that, should we want to capture a voidling, how might we stop them from dissolving away into nothing and escaping?"

Wit didn't think they would be moving to capture Protocol at all, but it was nice to be prepared.

Coeur shrugged. "Different strokes, I suppose. As for how I know... I've been 'enlightened' in a sense." He lowered the chestplate of his armor, revealing his Balefire scar. "When I was scarred during the war, part of me became aware of the Void's presence. When I was in Ponyville not long afterward to investigate, my scar began reacting to a pony named Full Circle that I met there."

His gaze sharpened a bit. "...Selecian, the Zebrican diety behind the Void, is within him; she took control of him and even bragged about how she'd made a 'proud zebra warrior' into little more than a puppet. She was referring to Tinago. as far as how we can capture one..."

Coeur thought hard for a moment, before drawing Alraune, setting the blade alight in purple runic script. "...I believe that if I put enough magic into my blade, my sealing magic will be able to trap the Voidling's soul. That's about the only option we'd really have." He resheathed his blade and readjusted his chestplate.

"...Anything else you'd like to know?"

Wit's eyes widened without his permission. Full Circle!? His mind brought up an image of the androgynous stallion in his natural habitat. Which is to say, surrounded by books, eating bread, somewhere far away from his son. Is a Zebrican god!?

At the name revealed Wit then narrowed his eyes at Solaris. There's no way he didn't know about that before... He shot the marshal a look along the lines of extreme annoyance. It wouldn't be hard to figure out why.

Wit regained his composure, his face returning to one of being generally annoyed with the world. "... Nothing further, no." He said coolly. The scowl seemed to deepen as he thought, though. Full Circle... that's not good.

Solaris nodded to Coeur "Thank you." He said as he looked to Wit.

"I chose to omit this information from our meeting with Jane for a reason. Even you know that if you try to do too much you accomplish nothing. Our focus is Alpha and will remain Alpha." Solaris stepped over to Wit and placed a hoof on his shoulder.

"I know it hurts but right now, showing that we know more than we should will put Jane in danger. I have diamond dogs to fight and we're in no position to go banging down Selecian's door. I'm telling you this because you deserve to know but you need to sit on this revelation until we are more prepared." Solaris took a step back and looked to Coeur.

"Which brings me to my reason for you to be here Coeur. I have good intel that a mercenary army will be attacking eastern Equestria as I head south. My authority is being undermined and I cannot raise another army to deal with them. I know that its so soon after Whinn's war for unification... But I must ask for your support: I need the Whinnish army."

Coeur just smiled and nodded. "And you will have it. Thankfully, due to the aid we received during the unification war, overall casualties were kept to a minimum. I will write to my father and return home to organize a fighting force. Does your intel contain the mercenary army's numbers?"

Even though he tried to keep himself calm, the prince couldn't really help it; his Whinnish blood made him excited for another battle.

"...Also, if I may ask, who is undermining your authority, brother?"

"One Commander Shortfuse, if I had to guess." Wit said offhoofedly. "Something about the nobility and where control of the armies lies, or some such..." He had a better idea of the situation than that, and how his friend was involved. He just had other things on his mind at that time.

"As for numbers, no, we don't have any specifics on that, unless the marshal would like to share." Wit said pointedly. "Though I can tell you about the leader of said mercenaries. I have no idea how strategically minded he is, but I wouldn't take him for granted. That being said, some extraordinarily... silly things will start happening when you arrive." He paused and looked over at Coeur. "Clandestine has a flair for the dramatic."

"I think thats an understatement Wit." Solaris said nickering "He acts like a comic book villain."

"But what Wit says is correct, Numbers are unknown... However, The Whinnish army can handle the mercs he'll raise I think." Solaris averred with a nod.

"Thank you so much though, I don't know what I would have done if Whinns wasn't in a position to help."

"Shortfuse? That stallion that was at that little party you had at your home when I returned here? Ach, no wonder I didn't like the look of him. I see... well, you need not worry."

Coeur shook his head. "While the Whinnish army is still readjusting after the unification war... I will lead a force of three hundred warriors; some of the best that my country has to offer. That's about all I think I'll be able to get here, but that should be more than enough. You can count on me, brother."

The sienna unicorn nodded. "...I will return home and speak to my father, and get prepared. I will be back as soon as I can get here."

Solaris nodded "Okay, I'll see you after this whole mess is over." He sighed a bit in relief.

"I did make some headway though, Wit. I have a plan that you'll no doubt hear about in the next few days. I'm just waiting for pieces to fall into place." He said, rather sure of himself.

"'Pieces to fall into place?' I didn't know you made plans." Wit sounded surprised, but there wasn't much effort behind it. He was still preoccupied. His mind was working elsewhere, but it was grinding slowly. He wasn't thinking with logic, as it was a moral quandary he was facing.

Wit tried to clear his head, and turned to Coeur. "Good luck, prince. Try and take the leader of the mercenaries alive, if you can. He's slippery, but I would appreciate it." He stepped back in an attempt to recuse himself from the conversation for the moment. Though he eyed Solaris, clearly wanting to have words.
