Nova hadn't visited his good friend Solaris in a long while. He had received a letter explaining some of the current he was having with the diamond dogs in the south, and was willing to assist in any way he could. Protecting Equestria was his job after all.
He strolled up to the gates in his duty uniform. Not flashy and present like Solaris' usual attire, but dark and subtle, much easier for hiding away in the shadows and concealing himself. Qualities that he was sure he would need none too soon. He entered the Manor and proceeded to the room where he had agreed to meet the knight in person. He opened the door and walked in confidently. "Evening, Sir Solaris."

Solaris was standing over a table in his library, with a map of Equestria in hologram form sprawling across the table. He seemed to be reading a book, no title on the cover.
Solaris looked to the door as Nova walked in offering a smile to him. "Nova, its good to see you." He said walking over "I take t you got my letter then?"

"I did." Nova replied. "And it sounds like you're in quite a spot. What can I do to help?" He admired Solaris for many reasons, none the least of which was how he had helped Nova in what might have been his lowest point. If there was anything that the solar knight needed, Nova would do his best to provide it.

Solaris turned and motioned to the magic hologram of Equestria. Around it, suspended in the air, was Solaris' ten blade-shards, each glowing a plethora of colors.
"I'm marching south soon, initial scout reports number the enemy above 200. Sightings suggest that these diamond dogs are veterans of the last war." He explained, the map shifting to show only Equestria's southern area.
"This means I cannot directly engage the dogs with my army of greenhorns and volunteers. I've come up with another way of dealing with them decisively." He said as he pulled one of the blade pieces down from its spot above the table.
"You and two others will be given pieces of my blade. The op is simple, infiltrate as deeply into the Diamond Dog tunnels as you can and spread my sword over it. Once you clear the area I'll burn them all out. Collapsing the tunnels and burning away whatever oxygen is left inside. Then all I have to deal with is what ever diamond dog force theres left on the surface."

Nova liked the plan, except for one small detail. "Oh, tunnels?" He grimaced a bit. Tunnels were much harder to infiltrate. Especially if there were gate guards.
"I'm not going to have a lot of room to maneuver in tunnels. Unless they're much bigger than um thinking they are. Do you have any other kind of Intel for me to work with?"

Solaris laughed a bit at Nova's question as he floated over the book he was reading to Nova. A cursory glance would tell Nova that this was a notebook with meticulous notes about Diamond Dog strategy and tactics, each entry dated during and immediately following the war, hoofwritten by Solaris.
The next few pages detailed Diamond Dog base layouts he observed after the war. While each was different in its own way they all followed a standard pattern.
"I think this book will answer your questions about how they operate... Though with anything the plan is subject to change pending any new information." He said as he stepped around his table.
"The plan for the army is to first parley with their leader and barring an unsuccessful arrangement, my army will draw out as many of them as possible, thats where you come in. You'll be on a very strict timetable, as any prolonged engagement with the Dogs will result in a routed Equestrian army."

Nova took the book and started looking through it. Diamond dogs were proficient with tunneling and building underground fortresses, that much he knew. They were also relatively easy to beat in combat if you could get past the sheer brutality of their attacks.
"So if and when they decide to fight, I infiltrate with your two others. I'm sure a couple of my teammates wouldn’t mind riding along. They've been pretty bored lately and I think a good mission is just what they need."

Solaris nodded "I'd be happy if anyone you knew would help me, so long as their superiors don't mind." He said with a warm tone.
"Thats all I have for you mission wise... Until something changes." He said offering a shrug "How've you been though?"

"Can't complain." Nova replied. "Aside from the tiresome raining we've been doing, it's been pretty relaxed. How about you though?" He asked. "I've been hearing some interesting things through the grapevine." Nova said with a raised brow and a grin.

"The usual, stressing out over politics and planning this action... All in all not that bad, could be better I suppose." He said chuckling a small bit.
"I find myself not having time to listen to gossip, what does the grapevine say?" He asked tilting his head.

Nova took a seat by the table. "Just some rumors about our great and virtuous knight courting a lovely lady around town." He said. It was kind of funny, he'd overheard a couple of the nobility talking about it. "Got your eyes set on someone have you?"

Solaris laughed nodding his head "It appears so my friend. We've only just started dating and nothing is set in stone and if wasn't meant to be well... I'll just have to deal with it." He said smirking.
"I'm not rushing things, testing the water as it were." He said shrugging. "Just between you and me though? I really do think I love her."

Nova laughed. "Never thought I'd see the day Sir Solaris crawled out from behind his duties to go on dates." He joked. "I really hope it works out for you. And if you really love her, don't let anything keep you away."
