Solaris was walking down the rows of training soldiers at his manor's training field. He had to get these ponies ready and soon... Luckily several veterans from the war volunteered and thanks to them the training was going along very smoothly.
Solaris looked serious... In front of his ponies he was their leader acting pleasant does not make for good leadership.
Solaris stopped in his tracks as his eyes widened uncontrollably and he turned his head to see...

He was training with one of the soldiers in unarmed combat. He had just caught an incoming hoof and pulled it past him as he twisted, pulling the hoof forward, over him, and landing the soldier on her back. He finished the session by dropping to all fours and bending down, securing her forelegs and putting a leg over her neck. When she called it he stepped off and let her recover.
He looked over and caught glimpse of the golden maned knight, who had apparently gotten sight of him. He figured it wouldn't do to approach and speak to him, as he was pretending to be a soldier, so he looked away and started getting ready for another spar.

Solaris was rather surprised, to put it lightly. Wing volunteered for his little army? It was certainly good news.
"You there!" Solaris called out, starting to walk toward Wing, making it known that he saw him. Solaris stepped over and took a glance at the mare Wing just beat.
"Whats your name? That last bout was rather impressive." He said keeping up appearances for a bit longer.

He turned around, accepting he had been spotted. He looked Solaris in the eye as he spoke. His response was immediate and natural, but just as monotone and neutral as the knight had noted during their first meeting.
"I am Quiet Touch, sir. Thank you."

"Quiet Touch." Solaris repeated nodding afterward "Keep up the good work." he said turning his head to look a sort of supply building.
"Be sure to return any materials you use to the supply building after the sun sets." Solaris said pointedly at 'Quiet Touch.' He walked off after that, trusting that Wing was savvy enough to pick up on the inflections.

He replied with silence and a quick nod before returning to his training. A day of sparring and training and the like later, and the sun was setting. He volunteered to take most of the equipment back to the supply building, ensuring he was one of the few ponies there.
He made his presence obvious, standing just beside the building.

Solaris appeared soon after as the last few trainee's left for the night.
"Quiet Touch? I don't think your sparring partner would agree." Solaris joked as he approached. "What are you doing here?"

"I still need to earn your trust. You put out your call to arms... I thought that this would be a good way to earn that trust. If you are anything like the Whinnish prince then that is the case."
His regular monotone filled the air. "Unless you do not want me here. I will find another way to make myself useful to Equestria, then."

Solaris looked thoughful for a few moments. "Listen..." He paused to gather his thoughts quickly.
"I appreciate the gesture, Celestia knows I need more to drive out the Diamond Dogs." He said nodding "You want me to join bad enough that you'd volunteer for a near suicide mission?" he asked rhetorically, furrowing his brow.
"Were you planning on telling me at any point?"

"Eventually. I wanted to gauge your perception, I wanted to know if you could spot me first. Though I do stand out in this country of color."
"Is it that bad? A 'suicide mission,' you call it?" There was an inflection of curiosity, if only minor.

Solaris sighed and nodded his head "Yeah, its that bad. At most, I'll have two hundred trained volunteers... While I have some veterans all of the Diamond Dogs are hardened veteran warriors from the war. A direct engagement would be catastrophic." He explained looking tired.
"Whats the point in being 'Marhsal' if you cannot even do your job?"

"I cannot answer that." He said simply. "I... think you are doing your assigned role, in a way. You are marshaling..." He paused. "Forgive me if I have used the word wrong. Your language is very different than Xi-Bianese."

"For being in a group sworn to represent Equestria you sure don't know a lot about it." Solaris commented, mostly in jest.
"Marshal is my rank, as in Marshal of Equestria's army. The nobility, who controls most of the military are stonewalling me: so this is my work around, volunteers."
He shrugged a bit "Do you honestly deem me this important to your group, this Eclipse?"

"Yes, because unlike what you have stated, I belong to a group sworn to the exact opposite of representing Equestria. Nopony can know our involvement in our missions, which consist mostly of assassination, as you know. If somepony were to find out, we have no official tie to Equestria."
"You are important for reasons in spite of all that. There had not been war in Equestria for at least a thousand years before the recent outbreak of it. During that time Eclipse lost sight of what it was. Eclipse was meant to prevent war. If a warlord had plans to invade, we would silence them... We were unprepared for all-out war once it had already started."
"Steady Aim found his own way, through his station in the military. It allowed him to fight out of the shadows, with no questions being asked of it. That is why I feel you are important to Eclipse. You will give us the... opportunity. The ability to freely step out of the shadows, should the need arise again."
"That, and I believe you would bring actual leadership to Eclipse. You are a leader, and you are set in your morals. I believe you would lead Eclipse down the right path."
He had that prepared. Not word for word, but his main points and his reasoning. He knew Solaris would need more than just an offer, and he hoped he had provided.

"Steady Aim was a good friend of mine. Taught me how to use an artillery bow." Solaris said taking a moment to look at the moon.
"We know the same pony by different names. He was apart of your group... He must have felt that it was right or at least necessary." He looked back to Wing.
"I'll tell you what: I need your help but not as a soldier. I have a plan that will potentially wipe out the Diamond Dogs without having to delve into their caves but to do it I need the skills you possess. There are two others who will be helping me but, I need one more."
"You do this for me and I'll seriously consider joining. Its not the 'yes' you want but: I can afford no distractions until after the dogs are dealt with."
