Alpha left clear, but coded directions for his compatriots to meet him in their new base of operations. This one would hopefully be much more permanent, but Alpha always had a backup plan.
The new base was in Canterlot. Or rather, it was underneath Canterlot. Alpha had remembered the old hideout that he'd used back when he was still freelancing. It was nice and private. Well lit too, and high quality craftsmanship to boot. It was located deep underneath an old abandoned warehouse near the northern outskirts of the city.
The trip down the elevator would lead to the entrance of the base. The walls were concrete, but they were lined with drywall, painted blue, to make it seem more homely. It had the basic setup of a large, one story house. There were a couple of bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathrooms, utility closets, basically everything one would expect.
There were no windows however. Alpha had considered getting some enchanted panes to at least make it seem like there was some kind of scenery outside, but magic like that was expensive.
Alpha was currently leaning over a pile of papers that were relevant to his current plans. There was much coordinating that needed to be done and he would need his compatriots here for that.

Clandestine approached the beaten down warehouse, still in the disguise of Ivy Vine. He didn't want to take any chances, and he didn't get to where he was in the world without being cautious. The warehouse was gloomy, as he had expected, but he hadn't expected it for the interior of their new base of operations.
The elevator was dreary and soul-sucking, not to mention the blue drywall, which seemed to actually suck color from his vision. It reminded him of his old base of operations underneat the Reichenbach Opera Hall. It was only made acceptable by the fact that a glorious testament to the arts was sitting above it.
"You don't expect us to live down here, do you? The lack of sunlight won't be good for my complexion, and I do hope you have more than simple canned food and survival rations. I've done enough living off that in the last month than I wanted to." He was of course referring to the maybe combined total time of a week he spent outside of cities.

Alpha internally groaned when he heard the voice of Clandestine, as critical as ever. He looked up from his papers and met eyes with the former crime lord. "Good to see you too, Clandestine." He said sarcastically.
"What took you so long? You take the scenic rout or something?" He asked, noting the unicorn's lateness. "You were supposed to be here a day ago."

"Oh, don't get me wrong, you're always a sight for sore eyes, Alphy~." Clandestine responded as he sat down. He looked over the papers, then to the doorways that led to other rooms. He found himself as utterly unhappy with them as he was with the rest of the bunker.
"As a matter of fact, I did. I prefer to be careful when I travel the country, especially when the country is starting to feel the effects of your little plans. Did you know I was ambushed by bandits on the outskirts of Canterlot? They're getting quite bold, you'll have to give my compliments to Bella, of whom I notice is also not here. How's that going?"

"Really?" Alpha said, "It's that bad already? Great. Things are moving along smoothly." He shifted one of the papers off of its platform, letting it fall to the floor, replacing it with a different one. "She was due back yesterday as well. Which means that either she was delayed as well, or worse. I'm inclined to say simply delayed."

"You know, it's never wrong to err on the side of caution, Alphy. Though wasn't she supposed to be in Canterlot last? Perhaps she's enjoying one last fine meal before joining us down here." Clandestine paused. "Which reminds me, you never answered me on the food. I am quite the chef if I need to be, one of the things I learned during my extensive time off. That and wine tasting."

Alpha rolled his eyes. "Oh don't worry about it." He said. "We'll be staying here for a while. And canned beans aren't exactly my idea of comfort food. There's plenty of fresh stock to eat." Alpha decided to leave his work for now and grabbed a small box that was nearby. He opened it, inside were a stack of cigars.
He took one and cut both ends, then lit it and finally offered the box to Clandestine. "Anyway, how did your mission go?"

Clandestine levitated a cigar over to him and inspected it. He started to sniff it and look it over, clearly debating whether or not to smoke it.
"I don't know if you were expecting the Whinnish, but they were the ones who responded to the mercenaries. The prince himself was leading them, Coeur, I believe. The pretty one. Anyways, the mercenaries didn't last long. The Whinnish have a thing for fighting, and all that. Tried to get a hold of the prince, but, and you'll love this, he's learned bladecasting. Probably from his good pal Solaris."
"How's that going, by the way?"

Alpha nearly choked on his cigar when he heard that name. "Hold on! Coeur Greystone?" He asked. "Tell me you killed him!" Alpha seemed almost frantic at the news. Coeur was the only one in Equestria who could single him out in a crowd. He wasn't sure how, but it didn't matter, he needed to die. It was one of the things he was tasked with.

"You think I might have led with that." Clandestine said simply, still looking over the cigar. It was clear that Alpha was a little distraught over Coeur. That was kind of interesting. He would have to remember that for later. "What, jealous about his colorful hair?"
"You know, these taste like ass, and not the good ass, and make you smell gross forever. I'll pass." He put the cigar back in the box then leaned back.

Alpha scowled. "You could have saved me a nightmare of trouble by killing him." He said. "He's a more than significant threat to us. I can't believe you just let him get away." Alpha slammed his head against a wall, trying to resist the urge to punch Clandestine right in his smart mouth.
"If you ever see him again, you put a blade between his eyes!" He commanded. "Consider it a priority over anything else."

"You should've outlined that." Clandestine responded casually. "Tip about this whole management thing, the people you give orders to will do the thing you tell them to. I hired quite a few mercenaries, and distracted Coeur, at least." He shrugged. "Would've preferred it had been Solaris, but you take what you get."
"Why is he such a big deal to you? You got your eyes on Whinnis next?"

"He has an ability." Alpha said plainly. "An ability that makes him dangerous to me. And the sooner he's dead, the sooner I won't have to sweat about it anymore." Alpha looked back to his papers and jotted down a couple of things.
"Of course Solaris would call the whinnish for help. That's too like him. I should have accounted for it."

"Probably." Clandestine continued, overlooking the kitchen, trying to figure out what he would make later. "He has friends in many places, a side effect of that whole being a living saint thing."
"So, what's the plan from here? Or do we just wait for Bella? That would be boring."

"Until Bella gets back, I don't want to make any moves." Alpha said. "But it sounds like she's been doing her job. So far, just about all of the targets have had their names soiled. Pretty soon the people will call for a change of leadership. I'm still figuring out what to do from there, however, I think we can use the whinnish to our advantage."
