Alpha cut a bite of his soufflé while Clandestine and Bella spoke. The stallion could cook, that was for sure. "I'm going to play the pride game." He said with an occupied mouth. He swallowed and cut another piece. "Though I think the nobles are more likely to play along. The whinnish coming here was probably a good thing in the long haul. Having another army fight for you makes you look weak. And the last thing a noble wants is to look weak."

"Hm, yes. Televised sitcoms are generally quite droll, though I think adding espionage can spice up the formula. All we need is a live audience and some cameras." Clandestine took the first bite of his souffle, then had some of the asparagus.

"I'm still of the mind we should meet somewhere public with Shortfuse. He would, at the very least, be more likely to show. Public places aren't the best for assaults and assassinations, subtle or otherwise."

Bella took a moment to admire the flavor of the souffle. She might just have to let Clandestine have a kitchen in the prison cell she'd send him to. She had a few more bites as she listened to the two talk. "Well I'm certain Shortfuse can contribute to Alpha's political play at the hearts of nobles. If we're meeting in a public place there's a nice little restaurant a few blocks from the bunker entrance that offers dark alleyways and shady customers who mind their own business." she added, levitating a piece of asparagus. She then took a bite of it and was surprised to find that Clandestine did indeed know how to cook.

Alpha was a few bites into the soufflé. It was actually really good. It was a shame he was going to have to kill him at the end of all of this. "It's settled then." He said. "Bella will set up the meeting, and we can go and meet our new friend over lunch."

Clandestine admired the efficiency of the two, it was something he desired in business partners, and even more so in subordinates. Not that they were subordinates, unfortunately. It was a shame he was going to have to kill them at the end of it all. Well, not really, but he might feel sad at the wasted potential. Probably not, though.

"Excellent, I look forward to the restaurant. We should determine alternate routes for entering and exiting. Shortfuse might have us followed after all." He paused, looking off thoughtfully."And, of course, the most important thing we have to decide is how shall we dress? I'm feeling formal, maybe even a suit and tie. What about you two?"

Bella smiled as she finished her bite of soufflé. "Perfume." she replied finally. After finishing her food she thanked Clandestine for his cooking. The she made her way to Alpha's bedroom and slept for the rest of the night. In the morning she would send a message to Shortfuse: "I owe you a meeting. Meet us at the attached address if you wish to hear my employer's offer. He's interested if we can help each other. I cannot stop you from bringing your spies or bodyguards, but please check them at the door."

That afternoon she would be at the restaurant that she had spoke of to Clandestine and Alpha, and had included the address of for Shortfuse. As Clandestine had suggested, she had taken an alternate route than the other two, walking the most obvious of paths so they could take the more discreet alleyways. Her choice of table was as tactical as always, choosing the one closest to the side exits and kitchen, while conveniently out-of-sight from most of the restaurant. There she sat with only a glass of wine to entertain her time while waiting.

Shortfuse stepped into the restaurant, casually looking about. By the door were two very obviously dressed 'spies.' His dry brand of humor mandated a literal interpretation of Bella's letter. The living jokes would leave very soon after disappearing into the busy street.

After spotting Bella he trotted over stopping before reaching the table. "Thank you for the invitation, I can only hope this goes well." He said before moving to sit down across from Bella.

Jane watched carefully from her perch at the table, observing Shortfuse from over the rim of her wine glass. As he left his two spies at the door she couldn't help but smirk a bit. 'He didn't bring them inside. I won't call him trustworthy just yet, but this if further progress.' she thought as he approached. She greeted Shortfuse with a smile when he sat down at the table. "I'm certain there's an impossibility of this being worse than our first meeting. Of which, I recall being rude and not giving the courtesy of my name. I'm Bella. My employer's name is Red, who has piercings a straight-to-business attitude. His partner is Gray, who often dresses sharply and is a bit... eccentric. Just so you have an idea of what to expect." she said in a manner almost as friendly as when she first met him.

Alpha walked into the entrance of the restaurant in question. It wasn't very hard to point out the two spies at the door. This guy really was paranoid. He made his way to where he knew Bella would be, in the least visible spot possible. And of course, there she was, and Shortfuse was already there as well.

He approached the table from behind Shortfuse and announced his presence when he was only a few steps away. "Bella, your new friend looks like he could use a drink."

Bella sipped on her wine as she eyed Alpha entering the scene. Setting her glass down she gave a nod to him. "Mister Shortfuse, this is my employer, Red. And may I get either of you a drink?" she asked politely.

Shortfuse eyes Alpha as he made his way over, lightly nodding to him as he sat down.

"None for me, thanks. Here for business not pleasure." He stated simply as he levitated over a copy of the Equestria Daily newspaper, idly looking over the cover stories. "I imagine you're the one Bella calls 'Red?" He asked looking up at Alpha, the obvious code-name not going unnoticed.

"I am indeed." Alpha said, sitting closer to Bella. "And I would love a drink, dear." He picked up a menu and looked it over. "Please, have something, Shortfuse. Nothing wrong with mixing business and pleasure every once in a while. Just makes for pleasurable business." He put the menu down and looked back to shortfuse.

"And from what I understand, we have some very pleasurable business to discuss. A mutual problem child, if you will."

Bella replied to Alpha with nothing more than a smile before hopping down from the table. Making her way off toward the small bar the restaurant sported, she would order a pair of drinks for the two stallions at her table, absent from the conversation until then.

Shortfuse said nothing as Bella got up, keeping his eyes firmly on his newspaper for a few seconds before casually looking up at Alpha"I know of several individuals that fall under such a title, could you be more specific?" He asked, uninterested. "I do not play games: Be direct if you would."

"Sheesh, you really are a stick in the mud, aren't you?" Alpha responded, lounging in his seat. "I'm talking about Solaris Strike. The one that's been trying to form his own army. No doubt for his own nefarious deeds. Diamond dogs be damned."

Shortfuse nodded, his eye twitching at the mention of Solaris. "Oh you haven't heard? Solaris managed to pressure the house of lords to form an army. He'll be organizing it once he returns... As for your Diamond Dogs." He said as he reached a hoof under his right wing and passed over a sealed letter. "We've recieved a report from the front that Solaris has wiped out the militant dogs to the last."

Clandestine walked into the establishment with neatly combed black hair to match his black tuxedo. He had considered a mask, but figured that might be overdoing it, even for him. He quickly spotted the ponies of import, but saw the rather displeased face Alpha had, and decided that conversation would be no fun.
Instead, he moved to the bar to join Bella. "Good evening. How goes the... planning? Plotting? Scheming?"

Bella had made it to the bar and ordered a pair of drinks; an apple martini and a drink for Shortfuse. It was then that she heard the familiar voice of Clandestine. "Meeting." she answered, looking to him. "And any conversation longer than five minutes with Shortfuse might make my ears bleed. I fear for Alpha's current state. Your name for this meeting is Gray, if you don't mind the title." she added.

"He has, has he?" Alpha questioned, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his jacket. "I hope you don't mind if I smoke. If solaris managed to take care of the diamond dogs with his ragtag group, then he'll have no problem getting his army."

Shortfuse made no indication to Alpha on whether or not he cared about the smoke. "Yes and furthermore, while the action at first made the house of lords clamour with anger now it is seen as a godsend. There was a mercenary incursion and it got the northern-eastern lords all bothered. Solaris now has support from some of the largest and oldest houses in the government." He said pausing and sitting back into his seat.
"Would you know anything about those mercenaries?"

"I might know a thing or two about them, yes." Alpha said, lighting his cigarette and taking breath from it. "Not sure whether or not you would agree with my methods, but I've been setting the country up for a rather extreme change of face. Which is another thing we have in common I understand."
"My little group has been looking for someone like you. Someone with similar interests as ours, but with the influence to be the face of the operation. And a dethroning doesn't happen without influence."

"Gray, huh? I guess it'll do. Not much flair, though. I like the mystique, however." Clandestine looked to the bartender and ordered a drink of his own, it was a fine brandy kind of night.

"Hm. I'll try to find a more suiting one next time you let me pick the names." she joked with a smirk before taking a sip of her apple martini and paying the barkeep. "I'll warn you about Shortfuse, though. He's all business and no pleasure. And believe me, I tried my damndest. He did lock me up in a stockade and restrained me. It wasn't as fun as I'd hoped..." she added, obviously making light of her past ordeal.

"I've heard as much from Bella. Though, I do not enjoy being on a hit list. You understand?" Shortfuse said looking up non-plussed. "You're trying to present me with a 'We need you and you need us.' deal but, what do you have to offer? Money? I have. Spies? Done. Information? I seem to have better networks than you. I'm failing to see an advantage of me joining."

"Trust me, you were never on any list of mine." Alpha said, dumping some of his ash into the tray on the table. "I'm disappointed, Shortfuse. I was under the impression that you wanted to see a brighter future for Equestria. But we all have our price I suppose."
Alpha thought for a moment. "I may not be able to give you money, spies or information, but how about power? Or, if you're that kind of guy, Solaris himself?"

"You just need to find the right partner is all, though I'm led to believe that Shortfuse over there doesn't understand proper fun." He paused, looking over his shoulder. "I suppose that's alright, he's been made rather ugly from years of scowling and unhappiness. It's a wonder he even drinks." He took a sip of his brandy.

Bella hummed in response to Clandestine as she took a sip of her drink. She had been keeping a close eye on the two as they talked at the table. It was about time for her to rejoin the conversation. "I wonder the same. Time to find out." she replied, picking up her glass, Alpha's whiskey and Shortfuse's drink. It was a bit tricky for her to balance all three in her magic, but she managed it by moving slowly enough. She looked at Clandestine and gave a nod in the direction of the other two stallions before heading approaching them.
Sneaking up on the scene she invaded the space of the table with her drinks, setting Alpha's whiskey before him, the martini at her seat and a drink in front Shortfuse. She stopped to whisper to him before passing by. "Single-malt scotch on the rocks, if you care to partake." she said quietly to Shortfuse before seating herself beside Alpha.

Shortfuse seemed to chew on something as Alpha said he didn't put out a hit for him, his paranoia rising. He looked to Bella who conveniently rejoined the table. Shortfuse did not look amused.
"Right, Solaris. Have you tried to remove him yet? Blackmail doesn't work, his PR agent is a genius. Fighting him doesn't work, just ends in stabbings." He paused at the stabbings for a moment.
"And hoping for him to die in the field is impossible. If you have ideas I'm all ears."

Bella added nothing more to the conversation, merely looking at Alpha, seemingly in response to Shortfuse's question. She smiled as if he would understand exactly what she was thinking.

Alpha put a hoof to his chin for a moment, then caught an eye of Bella's smile. He smirked in response. "Luckily, Mr. Shortfuse, you are in the company of seasoned veterans in the field of espionage." He said. "Maybe you know someone close to Solaris that would be easier to remove."

Shortfuse leaned back pressing his front hooves together. "Merely taking out one of his agents isn't enough, he'll recover. So, how about a trap of sorts?" He asked smirking.
"Were you aware that Solaris has a marefriend?"

"Marefriend? Really? Where does she live and what does she look like?" Alpha asked. He knew as soon as Bella heard, he wouldn't need to speak further.

Clandestine moved up to the table, sipping his drink. "Mm. I almost feel overdressed. This looks like a lovely discussion, very business." He sat down between them, almost taking the seat of a mediator. Or more aptly, an observer. He wanted only for popcorn.

Shortfuse looked to Clandestine and raised an eyebrow "Yes, you must be Mr.Gray?" He said noting the coat color. "Not very imaginative with the code names are you?" He asked, at an attempt at humor.
"Anyway, Solaris' marefriend. White coat, red mane, pegasus. Shes a knight as well."

"Oh, and I was told you weren't funny." Clandestine spoke up briefly. "Yes, I'm Gray, but Red is the one calling the shots here."
"She sounds pleasant."

"White coat, red mane." Alpha repeated. "And a knight, too. Perfect. Then I think it's best that we send Bella to take care of it. Should be pretty easy to spot in a crowd. Any idea where she lives?"

Bella smiled with devious grin. She knew exactly what she would be doing tomorrow. But while all of this information was coming, being simple details about a single mare, Bella began to wonder if she should tell Solaris or not. The incumbent attitude at the moment said no. And so she would have a wonderful job to do after the meeting. Some days she enjoyed what she did for a living.

"Ponyville, from what I gather." Shortfuse said "I think threatening her will make Solaris act rashly or at the very least predictably." He mused shrugging after a few moments.
"And in doing so, will you be able to close the noose?"

"I think we can do one better." Alpha said. "All Bella needs to do is get a good look at her, and then she can infiltrate Solaris' homestead and take him. Dead or alive. Alive being preferable of course. I'm sure you'd like to have a few ways with him before he dies."

"This is turning into a delightful tale of romance and betrayal indeed. I do so hope this ends with a knife in Solaris' back, not that I'm expecting it. Acting is more than just looking the part, but I'm sure you knew that."
"Isn't two knights having a domestic... ordinary relationship kind of... boring to any of you?" Clandestine sipped his brandy, smirking inwardly. Such useless comments would probably garner at least a little bit of anger, or so he hoped.

The words going around the table had brought Bella to reality once more. She had a dark foreboding of what the end-game was with Solaris to these three; death. Possibly capture and torture before so. Bella fidgeted a bit at the idea, though she managed to disguise this as being giddy and devious. A plan would be necessary for how this particular obstacle might be overcome. Bella took another sip of her martini, finishing it off and setting it next to her empty wineglass.

"The sooner he’s dead, the better. I care not who delivers the killing blow: It would be a prudent course of action if Bella slipped a knife into his neck herself." Shortfuse added shrugging "It isn't my agent dealing with him, it'd be up to you."

"Then it's settled. Think you can handle that, Bella?" Alpha asked the mare, who looked giddy and ready for action. "Kill him and that will be one less obstacle for us to deal with. See if you can't make it look like some kind of accident so that our good friend here isn't subject to any ridicule."

Bella managed to reply with a devilish grin, as if words were unnecessary for answering such a rhetorical question. "Of course~. Though, making it look like an accident might take some time. And of course I may have to get to know the marefriend. I can only assume that Solaris didn't make Marshal by being inattentive. If you gentlecolts don't mind being patient, that is."
