"Scorched Lands? Boarian slavers? Well, Miss Ardor, I think it's safe to say that you are, in fact, one of the most interesting ponies I've run into at these parties. All of that done and still so young." Debonair had another sip of his wine.
"So, the commodore finds you as a slave at an auction. I assume he bought you. Why didn't you remain a slave?"

Cynder paused for a moment. She really didn't have a good explanation for it. "He just... let me go..." she said. She knew it sounded crazy, but the more she retold the story, the less sense it made.
"He bought me and my companion at the auction and, almost immediately, he told us we were free and offered to take us wherever we wanted to go. That's when we went to the floating isles."

"He just... set you free?" Debonair was starting to be filled with disbelief. Tall tales were common around ports and on sea, but he had never really bothered to question them. Was this filly for real? Something in his gut told him that she wasn't lying.
"How odd, well, thank your lucky stars, I suppose."

"Yeah..." And now it was bothering her. How could a cold blooded killer like Crimson Claw do something like that? "But, anyway, you sound like you'you've been on some adventures too. Got any good ones to share?"

"Usually it takes more than asking to get stories from me, but it's only fair since you shared first." Debonair finished his plate and leaned back, thinking. "Well, let's see. There was the time The Debonair Rogue made it through a bloody typhoon. Though that was mostly Clear Sky, navigator she is."
"Hm. Oh, I know. Ever hear of the Drunken Mare? It raided merchant ships along the eastern coast, a fast ship to be sure. Not as fast as the Rogue, though. We managed to catch her unawares in one of her berths, not that it helped much. A cannon volley later she was making way for the sea. We had to smash the front of the Rogue into the back of the Mare." He paused. "Don't laugh, everyone giggles like school children at that."
"Anyways, we board her, screaming and yelling bloody murder. I find the captain and take my rapier to him. Now, he's using a cutlass. A fine weapon for the sea, but a bit heavy for my tastes. Not enough finesse. He clumsily hacked at me, but I quickly disarmed him, and with my rapier to his throat, the crew surrendered soon enough."
"Got a pretty price for the Drunken Mare." He finished by taking a sip of his wine. "That's one of my better ones. What do you think?"

Cynder did find herself snickering a bit at the part about ramming the ship. But a pirate hunter taking on the captain of a pirate ship was about as cool as it could get. "They just surrendered? Wow, you must be really good then." Cynder said.

"I don't know about all that, but their crew was already pretty disheartened. They thought they were the fastest, after all. And what's a crew without a captain?"
Debonair raised his glass and winked, grinning. "To adventures."

Cynder raised her glass and connected it to Debonair's. "Adventures." She said before drinking. She was starting to feel glad that her father tricked her into coming to this party. If it could be called that.

"So, having fun yet? I'm hoping I can make this whole situation a little less dull than these ordeals usually are. But, at least the snacks are good."
He hailed down a waiter and grabbed two more glasses of the weak white wine, placing one in front of her.

"I'm definitely not having a bad time." Cynder reassured Debonair as she gladly took the wine, wishing internally that it were rum. She didn't have a problem. She could quit whenever she wanted.
"Do you have any words of wisdom for a young adventurer like myself?"

"I would say look before you leap, but the best stories never come of that sort of thing, eh?" Debonair chuckled. In all seriousness, though. I do recommend you at least try to think before you act. Emotions can run high away from 'civilization.' Don't do something you'll regret. Always aim to come home with your head up high, with nothing to drag you down."
"Other than that, well..." Debonair shrugged, sipping his wine. "Killing's no good. Try and avoid that if you can. It's not easy, and sometimes, well, you have to. Don't let it become easy, though. Never let killing be easy."
"You lose your way faster than a ship without a sail if you do that."

Cynder listened to Debonair's words. Killing was definitely no good in Cynder's book. So that would be easy. As far as thinking before acting, she would work on it.
"Good advice. I'll take it to heart."
