Solaris sat in his study, reading a book on ancient Equestrian history. More specifically a translation of Astor Coursecare's journal. Even now Solaris was trying to perfect his craft: Bladecasting.
Astor Coursecare had a magnificent mind, her special talent was Physics and mathematics. It was through his genius that bladecasting ever evolved past a mere passing fancy. Yet, for all of his genius the art plateaued and nopony since has made any significant advances. Solaris had a nagging douby in his mind that bladecasting was a dead end.
A servent quietly entered the study and told him that Arael arrived at the manor. This was quite a shock, she lived in Ponyville. Nevertheless Solaris got up from his chair and smiled a bit, beginning to head to the manor's entrance.

'Arael' had taken the afternoon train from Ponyville to arrive in Canterlot only an hour or so later. From there she had a simple stop at a gift shop to buy a finely crafted wooden box to put the freesia flower into. Another quick shopping trip would yield a simple-patterned scarf to wear, of which the small box was tucked inside to conceal it. Now focused on using wings instead of magic to maneuver objects around, Areal had some time to adjust to her character before her big show tonight. With everything in order she trotted off towards Solaris' manor.
Of course after a greeting from the staff she simply waited to see Solaris. She had done a fine job of exchanging smiles with the various ponies that knew Arael and had even managed to strike up a one-sided conversation where she asked a particular pony about her family and life in the manor, making sure to ask about any recent evens, while she waited on Solaris to make an appearance.

Solaris entered the foyer and kept a pleasant look on his face as he approached Arael. The book he was reading tucked into a harness where his shard-blade was kept.
"Arael! I wasn't expecting you too show up, not at least without warning." He said trotting up to the two. "How've you been?"

Arael spied Solaris and smiled. She then gave a quick look to the staff pony she was talking to "Excuse me." she said with a nod, dismissing the conversation between them. "I've been well, things have been quiet in Ponyville. At least outside the manor that is, which is always bustling. Normally I would warn you but I had the rare opportunity to have Dawn looked after for the night and decided I could come visit. I've heard you've been so busy lately and I hadn't seen you..." she replied, her accent indistinguishable from Solaris' marefriend.

In a rare moment, Solaris actually let his guard down as no pony else was present in the foyer after the staff member left. Solaris' face seemed to deflate a bit and he just look so tired.
"Busy is an understatement." He said shaking his head "I only returned to Canterlot after routing the Diamond Dogs three days ago. Canterlot is in a bigger mess than before I left." He sighed a bit.
"Anyway, its good to see you! Come on, we can talk in my study. Coffee or Tea?"

Arael had noted the expression change from Solaris and kept herself from smiling victoriously in reply. First impressions were everything and now she would just have to stay in character. There were multiple ways to do that and appear authentic and she practiced such methods daily. "Coffee, please." she replied, before starting off to walk down the hallway, though she'd let Solaris lead the way. "Though it looks almost as though you could use it more than me." she joked and added a small laugh. "Is Equestria really in that bad of a shape?" she asked curiously.

Solaris shook his head "Equestria? Equestria is fine, her government is not. There hasn't been this much in-fighting in decades: And the Princesses have been silent!" He said shrugging.
"I don't know their angle. I also haven't seen either Princess in months. Thats odd." He said shrugging.
"Anyway, I don't mean to make you all worried about my job." He said, opening the door to his study and then stepping aside to allow Arael entrance first.
"I had a question for you though, I need your help on something."

Arael had a concerned expression as Solaris talked about his current strife with the Equestrian government. "--Of course! I'm here to distract you from your job. You've had enough of that lately, sounds like." she commented, shortly before he asked his question. "Of course. What is it?" she asked.

"You mentioned last time that the way I enter the Empowerment trance was... Forced. And that its probably whats holding me back." He said walking over to his desk, setting his book on Astor Coursecare on it.
"Can you show me the way you do it?"

Internally Arael had panicked. She was going through a dozen different ways to avoid the situation, the dumbest of which to actually pick up a sword. Instead the next idea that sounded even slightly plausible came to mind. "No, I can't." she stated, some authority in her voice. "Because we need to talk." she added, speaking the words no husband or otherwise wants to hear from a mare. She sat down, her poise upright and stern. The subject was apparently a serious one.

Solaris cocked an eyebrow. The last time Arael spoke like this she insulted him. "Well, I'm listening Arael." He said calmly. Unfased by the sudden change in tone.
"Is everything well?"

Arael felt a nervousness run about her. For one thing she respected Solaris and she'd never use that tone on him if he knew who she was. For another she realized she had only bought herself time from the lesson on the Empowerment Trance, which she only assumed was something to do do with a sword stance. It could be about meditation for all she knew. "Not quite. Now I know you've been busy and that the current Equestrian government situation has your full attention at the moment, but please hear me out: I think we need a vacation. Some time together, away from these stresses. Ponyville is quiet and can spare a knight for a week. Dawn has repeatedly told me she misses you and it pains me to tell her you're cooped up in Canterlot and won't be back for some time. I miss you, too. You could use a nice, relaxing vacation and some quality time with your marefriend and Dawn." she explained, her tone cautious but polite.

Solaris actually started laughing, politely but sincerely.
He nodded in agreement. "I would love too, but not yet." He said with a sigh.
"I need to make sure this army forms. I haven't been fighting Shortfuse and his political showlickers tooth and nail for the past two months just to see everything swiped away under a rug somewhere. I actually have momentum and I have to follow through." He said offering a smile.
"You give me three weeks and I'll be able to go on that vacation."

Arael's face turned to one of concern. "Three weeks?" she asked, disappointed. "Well we both understand the importance of momentum and follow-through. I can convince Dawn to stay calm in the meantime." she said, adding in a small reference to sword-play. She still really hoped that he was talking about something to do with swords. "But let's both agree you could relax a bit more. So let's start with that coffee." she added with a smile. "Have you eaten dinner yet?"

Solaris chuckled "Yes, I've eaten. I happen to not skip meals for work, unlike another Guest." He suddenly rose his volume, moving his head to the wall behind his desk.
The following noise was some snarky comment with some variation of "I eat hay-fries." Solaris rolled his eyes as he trotted over to a cart he had in the room already and began to heat a pot of coffee on it using his magic.
