Jane smirked at Solaris' comment about Wit's safety. He tended to be on the receiving end of all dangerous situations. She also took a moment to admire Solaris' muscles as they flexed and she bit her lower lip, soon fighting to focus on the problem at hand. Once the word scrying was mentioned she was snapped back to reality. Whoever this pony was could have heard any number of things, to include her real name and that she was not hostile with Solaris. This pony needed to die. "Either they're locating us or listening. Can you sense where?" she asked, taking a few steps towards the door leading to where Wit was.

Solaris shook his head "No, I can't. I don't know how but they're blocking out my enchantments." He said looking down in thought.
"Their spell is active. Ten seconds until they can see us... Why though? Why just sight?"

Jane began counting in her head as the seconds ticked by. The intruder would soon see them together, probably to move in for the kill.
1... 2...
Jane's sword dropped and her horn magically receded from view. Her wings appeared once more and she was a mirror-image of Arael once more. She did this while slowly walking over towards Solaris.
3... 4... 5... 6...
"I'm sorry, Solaris. This needs to happen." she stated before she withdrew her pen.
7... 8... 9...
She slammed the pen into Solaris, injecting its lethal dose of nightshade. Solaris would instantly feel poisoned and his vision would blur. Soon he would be exactly what she needed him to be; a corpse.

Solaris turned just as Jane said "I'm sorry." The rest of her sentence went by disregarded as the pen sunk into the flesh of his neck.
He stumbled back, his vision swimming. Solaris' shardblade buckled in his magic aura and began to glow really bright for a few moments before flashing suddenly in a quick burst of white light. The ten pieces fell, inert, to the ground the enchantments inscribed on them burning out, leaving charred metal on its surface.
Solaris' pupils dilated as he fell over, his body naturally curling up in a vain attempt to defend itself, then he was motionless. The writhing and twitching of his previous state disappearing just as quickly as it began.

Arael watched as Solaris stumbled and died unceremoniously. Truly, his death was unfitting given all of his accomplishments in life. 'Countless battles and foes slain and he died to a disguised assassin. Not even a good one at that. I've botched this mission enough today.' she thought to herself. She looked around and noticed that nopony was around. "Thank you, rookie assassin, for making Solaris suspicious with your scrying magic and rushing my assassination. Now I didn't have the time to make it look like an accident. Pray I never find you." she spoke aloud. She then removed her scarf and laid it over Solaris, which revealed the small box she was carrying. She set the box (holding Arael's Freesia flower) beside him and planted a kiss on his cheek. "That's from Arael." she whispered, though she knew he couldn't hear her. She then covered his face with the scarf.
Taking a piece of the now-defunct shard-sword with her, Arael left the scene quietly. It wouldn't be long before she heard the scream of a staff pony at the inevitable discovery of Solaris' body. By the time the manor had been searched Arael would be long gone, along with her current disguise.
