The air was exceptionally cold around Ice Lake this year. The leaders of each flight had convened to make an extremely important decision. A decision that many of their brothers and sisters had gathered to hear. With the northern border gone for quite some time now, it was finally agreed that the Children of Summer would go forth to the old lands of legend.

There was quite an amount of cheering, and together the children gave thanks to The Mother for this opportunity. It was decided that one leader's son, an advisor named Jasper, would lead the expedition and any that would choose to follow him. This was a chance for all to see the the land that was laid out before them.

Jasper himself, red of mane and colorful of coat, his orange chest fading to the deep green, was speaking with a couple of scouts that had been sent on journeys to see what was beyond. He was interested in the tales of creatures living amongst a wasteland, not but white, striped with black, along with several dangers as well. The other scout would tell of tall, slim creatures, with horns nearly the size of their own bodies.

Both of these lands sounded wonderful, but neither of them was a land across water, both being connected to the Fringe itself. Before this journey was to start he would need someone to cross the water and see what was before them.

Eldra wandered up to the front of the pack of the ones to venture forth. Her red mane with black tips, accompanied her amber eyes and amber underbelly. Eldra's breath were small puffs of flame to warm herself from the bitter cold this winter. She had heard of the plan for a few of the Children to venture forth and explore the lands of old tales. She walked to the forefront of the pack and stood next to Jasper of Frostscale,

She had asked the leader of her flight to go with the rest of adventurers and help in any way she could. Her leader could sense that ever since she had lost her parents she had wanted to leave this land, it was a painful reminder everyday of that winter. With this winter being colder and harsh than the past, he knew Eldra wanted to leave. She was given his blessing to join the adventurers. She cheered along with the rest of her brothers and sisters, except one.

-Last Night-

Her brother, Inadu, who matched her look in nearly every way. They were practically twins. The night before the venture, Eldra and her brother fought, like they always did. However, it was different this time. Something was on the line. The decision for Eldra to leave or not. The battle lasted a long time, nearly all night, each party ending up with cuts and slight burns. But in the end, Eldra defeated her brother.

"I'm sorry brother, but I must do this. I must do it in the name of our mother Eldra second of her name and our father, Inadu third of his name." She looked his brother in his eyes. "You know I love you very but it is too painful for me here."

"But I'm still here, your brothers and sisters are here." Inadu sighed. "I know I can't dissuade you from this. Regardless, you would have gone with Jasper of Frostscale. Just be careful. I don't want to lose you forever."

Eldra nuzzled her brother, "Don't worry, I won't die. I will return one day." She huffed a breath of fire. "Now, lets get cleaned up and get to bed."

Inadu sighed, "You are right. I shouldn't be worried."

-Morning-

Eldra was so excited by the tales of the lands connected to the Fringe that the scouts had told, the wasteland creatures striped with black on white coats and the tall and slim creatures with large horns. She would gladly go wherever Jasper would need somekirin to go. She just wanted to go.

More than a few of Jasper's brethren seemed to be jumping at the chance to venture outside the fringe to the lands beyond. One of which, Jasper locked eyes with momentarily. "And who are you, who art so large in stature?" He asked the extraordinarily tall child that stood near him. He closed the short distance between them so that he could be face to face with this unknown child.

She held herself in much a way that told him that she was of the Red Flight. "A fighter, you must be. Of those rough Blooded, are you not?" He asked, bearing a curious smile.

Eldra was so excited that she couldn't nearly hold it. She huffed, a breath of fire for her breath, warming her and the ones around her briefly. She was too distracted by the chance for escape from this frigid hell, but mostly for the chance and honor of exploring the lost lands The Mother had lain out for them.

She bowed her head to Jasper as he approached, he just a wee bit taller than she. However, they two were one of the tallest Children in the group. But most were not much smaller than them.

She folded her wings against her, her legs spread just shoulder and hip width apart, in true warrior fashion. She let her tail flick back and forth, unable to conceal her excitement in that fashion.

Though she straightened up once Jasper of Frostscale spoke to her. She nodded her head, "That I am and proud to be here on this tremendous day. Eldra of Stormwatch, third of my name."

Jasper gave a short bow of his own to the excited child. "Well met, Eldra." He said. "You should already know me, Jasper of Frostscale, eighth of my name. I get the feeling that you are eager to venture out." He said, noting her posture and general restlessness.

"This is good. There isn't nearly as much excitement about this for me. I expect there will be quite the revel tonight."

Eldra smiled and nodded back, "Yes the leader of my flight told me that you would be leading this endeavour. You probably have no idea how much this means to me, sir" She said respectively.

Her fire breath warming the general area around her. "there's not? You were not forced to do this, per say?" She inquired, turning her head at this new revelation. "Oh, I do not doubt that"

Jasper laughed and gave Eldra a firm pat on the shoulder. "Not as forced as you might believe." He said. "Eldra, I would very much like to know what it is exactly that I would be dealing with in this new world. And that means sending a scout to the farthest lands across the great lake."

Jasper supposed that Eldra could probably guess that he intended to send her all the way to their final destination. By he also supposed that was exactly what she wanted. "I believe someone like you would be perfect for that job."

Eldra looked at his hoof then up to him, "good thing You are not my enemy." She listened intently. Her breathing became more apparent the more Jasper had spoke of what he wanted her to do.

Eldra looked down, "Sir Jasper of Frostscale, eight of your name." She looked back up at him. "You have no idea how much this opportunity means to me."

She calmend herself and regained her stance from before, in true blooded flight fashion. "I, Eldra of Stormwatch, accept your request of me. I, on behalf of my flight and all of the Children of Summer, will venture forth on this quest with all of my ability. I will not fail you."

Jasper nodded. "I'm very glad to hear that." He said. "It will take a while yet to gather everyone for the journey. You will have plenty of time to explore before I arrive. Until then..." He took a step past Eldra and spoke in a voice that all Ine the vicinity could hear.

"Eat! Drink! Be merry my friends!" He said. "Tonight we celebrate!"

Eldra stayed near Jasper, "I wish not to party. I will start on my journey tonight."

Eldra stood in front of her brether and siterern, "Brothers and Sisters! Children of Summer! I, Eldra of Stormwatch, third of my name and of the Blooded flight, will venture forth to the lands across the sea, past the deer lands, past the desert lands. I know not when I will return but I will learn about the lands past what The Mother hath given us so far.

In the name of The Mother and we Children of Summer, I take this journey. Celebrate on my behalf, I must go."

She quickly flew up into the sky in a swirl, breathing fire in her wake. and of she went
