Claire was standing by the front of the receptionist desk in the office where she worked. She was sorting a couple of forms for patients and setting schedules for future sessions. It wasn't the most exciting job in the world, but that's what Claire liked about it. It was quiet. No excessive excitement.

Classical music played lightly in the background, adding a bit of ambiance that was relaxing to both the clients and the therapists. The office was plain, but it served its purpose just fine. Claire actually didn't have any appointments today, but she always liked to stay for any walk-ins. Keeping a healthy mind was important for a pony after all.

Sure, everypony has stress. While it can be avoided, mitigated, reduced or denied, stress still exists wherever there is life. In the life of one particular pony, stress is denied more often than acknowledged. For Jane the path forward in life is made clear when she didn't think of stressful situations and instead focused on her options. In her life there was no time for such debilitating emotions; only logical procedure and using whatever means she had to achieve her goals.

Thrown out with stress was the concept of love. She loved her country and she hated all that would see harm brought to it, but now the feeling of love was what conflicted her. She loved a pony who dared to threaten her country. Worse, she hated almost everything about him. And yet she could swear that she saw through his evil front and witnessed his desire for peace in life more than a few times. She was conflicted and that was why she was here.

Sitting in the therapy room, was an all-white unicorn with blue eyes. Her color scheme was not unlike that of many unicorns in Canterlot. Her choice of disguise was to be as generic as possible, though she did maintain her true, slender frame. She looked around the office that she had silently intruded upon, making note that the therapist hadn't noticed her yet, just as she hoped. She cleared her throat, audibly enough that Claire would hear, but not a whisper more escaped her.

Claire's head shot up at the sound and she looked straight at where Jane was sitting. "Oh! I'm sorry. You weren't waiting long were you?" She asked, quickly going over the schedule for the day again. Turned out this pony was a walk-in. She grabbed a standardized form and a clipboard and jotted down a couple of things. "You don't have an appointment with anyone, is that correct?" She asked.

"Oh I wasn't." replied the feathery voice of Jane's new disguise. She waited patiently until Claire was ready to take notes, assuming it was all part of the process. It wouldn't bleed through her disguise, but Jane was nervous about coming here, with a small part of her believing that this was all a mistake. She had quelled that argument, thinking regardless of how the situation happened or what a psychiatrist thought, nopony would ever know she was here. "That's correct." she said simply.

"Mmmk." Claire said, checking off a box and filling out a couple of other notes as she continued talking. Jane might not have known, but she was already being diagnosed. "Right this way. My name's Claire, I'll be working with you today. Can I get your name?" She asks politely as she motions to one of the other rooms in the office.

The white unicorn stood up and followed Claire upon her gesture. Being the first time in a psychiatrist's office of her own accord, Jane was curious what it was that was being written down. Given the few words they had exchanged, the amount she was writing seemed to be quite a bit. "My name is Shade. Pleased to meet you, Claire." she replied.

Inside, there were a couple of seats, along with a couch and a desk. The walls were lined with bookshelves, fully stocked, and the music was barely audible. Just enough to be heard if you were listening for it.

"Just have a seat wherever you like." Claire said welcomingly. She sat herself down in one of the chairs, setting the clipboard in her lap. "Why don't we just jump straight in? Describe to me exactly what it is that's bothering you today, Shade."

"Thank you." Shade replied as she gracefully climbed onto a chair and sat herself up. Her poise still showed a professional demeanor, as if she was there for a business meeting rather than a psychological analysis. "Well, truly I just need to sort out my thoughts. Lately life has become... complex. Normally the path ahead, what I have to do, is clear and laid-out. Regardless of if the path is hard or easy, I often know how to move forward. But lately there are multiple paths and I'm torn between them. I just need somepony to validate that I'm not crazy, if that's fine with you." she explained, Shade's eyes looking into Claire's.

CClaire gave a light giggle and nodded. "I can assure you that this is completely normal." She says. "Often times our minds can't choose between one path or another. Do you feel comfortable divulging a few more details? Just so I can get an idea of what you're going through. Is this a work related problem? Personal relationship?"

Shade let out a deep exhale and finally broke eye contact with Claire, looking down a bit. "Well at least it's normal. Sadly, the issue is both work related and a personal relationship. I try not to mix business and pleasure because it makes situations complex. I've found myself completely charmed by a stallion who is an obvious example of everything I hate. There is absolutely zero evidence that his past relationships have had any success and he doesn't fit the bill for being the supportive type. He can be emotionally abusive and sometimes physical, but I'll admit that I'm the same way.

"And yet, through all of this, I can't help but love him. And he can't help but love me, even for all the trouble I put him through. But there's a catch to this whole ordeal; he only acts this way because he has to. He has to be ruthless, vicious and tactical in his job in order to continue doing his work. Because of his boss. Due to the circumstances, we can't simply back out of the job or cut his boss from the equation. But if we just see this job through to the end he might just... become a better stallion. He's already revealed he doesn't want to do the things he does or act the way he does, but he has to. Is it... wrong to try and help him to the end of the job so I can have him entirely to myself in the end?" she asked Claire, her tone revealing just how worried and stressed she was over the situation. In her mind, Shade was wondering if maybe she had said too much.

Hmm, quite the predicament indeed. "Love has a funny way of mucking things up, doesn't it?" Claire asks. "Opposites have a strange way of attracting. I'm not sure I can tell what is or isn't the right answer. I'm a psychiatrist, not a love counselor, but in my professional opinion, I think it would be healthy for your first step to be to take a step back from the situation."

"Take a quick Holliday if you can and really examine what it is you want out of all of this, and then pick out the things you need to do to get there. Away from the stress of it."
