Reid. Dennett.

His fingers tapped impactiently across the marble counter, gaze flickering up and back at the busy staff as he waited for his coffee. He kept on checking his watch, a tell tale sign that he was running late for work and even as he did so, his mobile rang which he fished out of a denim pocket with a sigh.

"Good morning Mrs Colins," he greeted warmly, listening to her words as his smile faded slightly and a sigh of relief left him.
"Oh no, of course that is fine...I'll see you tomorrow I guess, thanks again!"

He hanged up with a grin, for his classes that day had been cancelled for some reason, meaning he had a day on his own. More time for coffee and to spend with his beloved mare, Janabella, and yearling Lynx.

Taking the pleasuring morning to take his time and grabbed a newspaper, and rested into a comfortable booth as he scanned though the small, local paper.

Every now and then, his hand would skim though his blonde-brown hair showing a angry looking scar which ran from his left temple to his left ear, disappearing into the straight locks. The only reminder he had left of his old breeding barn, other then the two horses he had left.

After his own barn had burnt down and most of the lands with it, he and his two mares had had very little to do. He had sold of most of stock, the ones that were not injured at least, and had to put several down for the burns being too bad and to cruel to let the poor animals live.

Him being the gentle soul he was had been crushed. His whole young life since his parent’s death had been into that place, and without the money for repairs he had to shut up shop and move away. And all he had left was his pride and joy mare, Janabella and his newest and somewhat youngest addition, Travana Laura Lynx, but he just called her Lynx having disliked her show name. He had no idea why he had kept her, just something about her made him keep the pretty faced chestnut, maybe because she was so young and it called to him. He couldn't bare to part with any of them.

Another sigh escaped him, folding the newspaper neatly and sipped at the hot coffee, watching as people hurried down the street, to lost in there own worlds to do much else.

OOC: long but awfull...sorry dearie!

The song Grenade, by Bruno Mars blasted loudly in the quiet street, and the nineteen-year-old girl sighed loudly, rolling her eyes as she slipped her hand into a pocket, pulling out her phone and flipping it open.

"Hello?"

Kay strode quickly along, hitching her bag more securely on her back, nodding at sporadic intervals in answer to the single-way conversation she was having. She loved to talk, that Mrs Collins. Or maybe that was her own imagination.

"Uh-huh. Thanks. I appreciate it... Yeah, no problem. Bye."

Kay snapped her phone shut with a decisive click, opting to hold it in her hand, as she veered into the nearby coffee shop she was going to walk past. Since she had no class to teach today, she might as well have a cup of coffee to wake her up. Gods knew she was definitely not a morning person. And for that matter, why couldn't Mrs Collins have contacted her earlier? Maybe the night before? She could sleep in later today, then.

She pushed the door open; walking straight to the counter as she absent-mindedly tied her long hair into a messy ponytail, rubbing her eyes tiredly as she inwardly grumbled and moaned. Hazel eyes flitted around the abnormally crowded café, as she leaned nonchalantly against the counter, fumbling with her wallet as she took out the money needed.

Grabbing her coffee cup and nodding in thanks to the staff, Kay stepped away from the counter, scanning the crowded café for an empty seat or booth. None. But her eyes fell on a semi-empty booth at the corner, with a guy sipping coffee and reading the news.

Shrugging to herself, Kay sauntered forward, standing beside the table as she softly cleared her throat, shifting her weight uncomfortably.

“Hey,” she said, flashing him a bright smile as she nodded to the seat opposite him. “Mind if I have a seat there? The rest of the seats are full,” she continued, making a face.

His head instantly snapped up at the sound of a sweet voice, his bright blue eyes landing on the short and slender framed woman standing at the end of his table and lost his voice for a moment.
Swallowing obviously, and without removing his gaze, he nodded slightly and shifted away slightly to make sure she had enough room.

Clearing his throat slightly and smiled warmly, he finally found his voice.
"Good morning," he greeted "of course you may sit down...I don't need all this space to myself...."
He chuckled slightly, sweeping a hand though his hair once more in a nervous gesture and studied her quietly with his bright blue orbs. He was shy around everyone, not just girls..not just beautiful girls.

"I'm Reid," he managed finally with a sheepish smile.

As his face came into full view, Kay felt her stomach lurch, and her heart skip a beat. He was handsome and muscular, and she felt her trademark smile change into a shyer, more hesitant one. Her wide, brown eyes met his, and for a while, the two of them remained in that position, lost in their own little world.

Kay saw him nod and move, breaking the spell that seemed to hang over them. He spoke then, and his tenor voice made her heart skip another beat. Kay huffed inaudibly, annoyed with herself for behaving thusly, as smiled, chuckling softly as well.

“Thanks,” Kay murmured, placing her cup gently onto the table, before sliding onto the bench opposite him, unhooking her bag from her shoulders and dumping it on the seat beside her. Inexplicably, she felt rather tongue-tied, and her hands were sweating, for God’s sake! What was wrong with her?

“Kay,” she responded, tossing him a friendly grin as she sipped at her coffee, hiding her shyness. Tilting her head, she lifted a hand to absent-mindedly play with the tendrils of hair that she had not managed to capture in the hasty ponytail.

“I’ve not seen you around before. Do you often come here?”

His gaze was still on her, noting every small shift of her weight and felt hyper-aware to her very being, though he had no idea why.
He smiled slightly at the flicker of her wrist as it tangled itself into her short dark strands and found himself hesitantly wishing she would speak more, her voice was so very sweet and he wanted to doubt upon her every word.

"No, first time," he said and fell silent, feeling as if he should add something more so that conversation would grow longer "I just moved into town....a few days back, Mrs Collins said the coffee was good here."
He shrugged slightly but watched her eagerly for a reply.

He didn't feel anything like his 22 year old self, feeling as if he was falling back into the shy teen he had always been where he had barely been able to think, let alone speak around others.
"Do..do you come here often?" If so, he planned on making daily trips just for the hope of seeing her.

Kay smiled lightly at him, leaning back and crossing her legs as her eyes roamed his face. She had since relaxed, her brain in overdrive as she practically leapt at his smile – which had seemed as though it were made just for her. No, stupid thoughts. She shook her head lightly, laughing at her own behaviour, even as she longed to see it again.

“Ah,” she said, nodding sagely as Reid spoke. “That would explain it I guess. And it is! The best in the town, I think. That’s why everybody wakes up so early – just to get a cup of coffee from here before they start the day,” she grinned, raising her cup in a mock toast to him, as she drank.

“Wow, I sound like a walking advertisement,” she mumbled a while later, grinning from ear to ear. Kay felt as though she were no longer in control of her own emotions, as the coffee woke her up, and as she regressed into the crazy person her friends always said she was.

“Come here every day,” she smirked, raising a brow. “You should too. Before you even start with those hooligians at the school… Wait – do you even work there?” she asked curiously, before mentally slapping herself for rambling.

He watched with something between confusion and amusement as she shook her head, giggling to herself and seemed to be having an internal debate with herself, but he said nothing on it. Each had there habits, he knew, and he found himself warming to the odd yet attractive features of his woman.

He grinned from ear to ear at her humour, raising his own travel mug back at his in a mocking toast.
"Only slightly," he teased, glad that he had no mumbled over the words like before and tilted his head in question "the boarding school over the bridge? What's it called...Leon's Riding Academy? Yeah, I work there...started yesterday, teaching some of the more experienced students, Alexa wants to see how I teach before I get the younger ones.."
He nodded pleasantly and paused, looking at her in question "why? Do you work there as well?" He grinned slightly, his day was just getting better and better. He didn't think he had smiled as much since he stables had burnt down.

Kay grinned, liking the new guy more and more every second she spent in his company. “Hrmph,” she snorted, before blushing at the sound. “They should be paying me, then. God knows one can never have too much money,” she continued teasingly, reaching up to swipe some hair from her eyes.

She nodded, interest in her eyes at his next response. Involuntarily leaning forward, Kay propped her head up on the table, grinning like a fool.

“Yeah, that’s the one! Well what did you know – I teach there too! I just started there too as an instructor.” Kay paused, grimacing lightly. “Those kids are absolute horrors. I swear, they have more than enough energy to power the whole school for a month! And what’s more, most of them don’t even know the meaning of ‘follow me’ or ‘do as I say’…”

Kay trailed off, a fiery blush creeping up her cheeks as she realized she was ranting to a complete stranger. Again. Well, not a complete stranger, but…

With a supreme effort, she shoved the internal debate threatening to start out of her mind, fixing an embarrassed glance a Reid. “Sorry,” she laughed, embarrassed, playing with her hair. “Just… Well… I have a bad habit of rambling on and on – so stop me if I do,” she blurted out, slapping her hand to her mouth and leaning back, groaning mentally.

Was it her, or did she act even more crazy around him?

He shifted his weight slightly, the sound of groaning leather filled the air and he forced a blush not to appear, not that it worked very well but forever he still tried and noted the over pink particles rushing to her cheeks and smiled warmly.
"Agreed," he admitted to her comment of money. It was something most people seemed to be lacking, something most people with horses and a small income searched for.

At the mention of the horrible kids, he grinned broadly.
"Not a fan of children?" he questioned but had to nod slightly in agreement "though..some of them are a bit...." he trailed off "hard to teach? On my first day, gosh I think most of them tried to do something to me."
He chuckled slightly at the memory, his shy self seeming to disappear as he grew more comfortable around the girl.

As she rambled about rambling he reached out, patting her hand that was not covering her mouth as she carried off and he seemed surprised at his own gesture.
"It's okay, I don't mind rambling," he told her seriously but there was a sparkle to his blue eyes "at least not cute ramblers..."
He blushed, withdrawing his hand and rubbed his face, breaking into a sheepish smile at his words and swept a hand though his hair in a nervous gesture.

His mouth opened and then closed, before opening once more. Reid didn't seem to know what to say.

Kay grinned mischievously. Dropping her voice to a pseudo-whisper, she leaned forward once more, glancing around secretively as though about to divulge a Very Important Secret.

“Don’t tell anyone this, but they’re actually… Not that bad,” she smirked, winking playfully as she took another sip of coffee. “It would spoil my cold and hard exterior if word of this were to ever get out,” she laughed, tossing her hair back, chocolate-coloured eyes warming at the sight of his giant smile.

“Hard to teach? That must be the understatement of the century,” she teased lightly, warmth bubbling up from deep within her. “Tried?” she continued, gasping in mock horror. “Whatever did those little devils do now?”

The pink blush that had risen to her face soon evolved into a decidedly more robust apple-red one, as she felt the warmth of his hand envelope his. She jumped in little in surprise, cheeks still stained crimson, as she swore she could almost feel electricity pass between them.

A girlish giggle escaped her at that moment, leaving her utterly mortified. Giggle? I certainly do not!

But then again, she thought, gazing into his bright blue eyes. This is definitely a special occasion that deserves such behaviour.

Drawing up her courage, she cracked a wide grin, playfully smirking at Reid. He really was adorable when he was embarrassed.

“Thanks,” she laughed, trying to act flippant, but not entirely sure if she was succeeding. “I’ll keep that in mind. And just for the record, I think you’re rather cute too.” She winked, feeling the heat practically radiate off her cheeks. By all the Gods, was she actually trying to flirt with him?

He couldn't help but laugh at her somewhat childish behaviour, but found himself enjoying her playful nature. The world was passing around them, but he didn't seem to notice, nor did she. It was as if they were in their own little world, where nothing could stop them from the small morning chatter that seemed to have grown between them.

Dropping his own deep voice to a whisper, he replied "don't worry, I won't tell anyone," and proceeded to give her a small wink and somehow managed to not blush at the flirtatious movement.

Leaning back into the deep red leather booth, he smiled with a tilt of his head.
"What didn't they do?" he mused aloud "though, most seemed to pretend that they didn't know how to tack up there horses and made me do it...odd though, how an experienced riding class couldn't tack their own horses."
He laughed softly, shaking his head "a mixture of other things, but I promised not to tell." He tapped his nose and sighed softly, though a smile still tugged at his lips.

As she called him cute, he blushed the deepest red he even had, even the tips of his ears burning under his messy locks. Checking his watch, to try and hide the colour, he blinked at the time.
"I'm sorry, I have a beautiful miss waiting for me," he said then froze at what he said, instantly back tracking or at least trying to "I-I mean...I mean... my horse...I'm sorry, my mare Jana is waiting for her daily visit," he mumbled "are you by any chance heading out to the school? Any lessons today?"

She laughed long and loud when she heard the antics of his class, eyes twinkling with mirth as Reid tapped his nose knowingly. “Of course,” she agreed, not managing to keep a straight face, face flushed with suppressed laughter. “It really wouldn’t do for this to get out, would it? A class managing to best their teacher?” she grinned, out in full-fledged teasing mode, imagining that particular scene in her mind.

“So… did you really help them tack up?” she asked, arching an eyebrow in blatant curiosity, giving him a speculative look. “Maybe I could persuade you to do the same for me? I am in need of a good groom after all,” she teased, sniggering lightly.

She didn’t quite know what to make out of all of this. Kay knew that she had found a friend in Reid, and she really enjoyed being in his company – as a friend, but she felt the beginnings of stirrings of something more.

Kay smirked at Reid as he checked his watch, noticing the tips of his ears burning a brilliant red, before checking her phone for the time. Her eyes widened with surprise, and she glanced out of the window to double check. Was that really the time? How had the hour passed so quickly?

She shook her head, laughing off his words, but couldn’t deny the pang of jealousy and uneasiness that had shook her, as soon as she had heard the words ‘beautiful miss’. But all was well, at least. And she didn’t quite wish to part from his company so soon.

Flashing him a smile, she drank the last of his coffee, shaking her head. “No lessons,” she responded. “But I’m probably going to head out there anyway. I don’t have a horse of my own yet, so I’m using the school one.” Slight envy and longing coated her words then, and she sighed wistfully. She really couldn’t wait till she had saved enough for one of her own.

“Might I follow you to school, then?” she asked tentatively, hesitantly. “I would love to see Jana – and I want to ride a little later.” Her heart was pounding in anticipation, as she felt her face bloom into a fiery red once more.

"No," he grinned broadly "told them I was going to be testing them on what they knew, and that if they failed they wouldn't be able to ride."
"Never seen a group of people tack up horses so fast, nor properly as they did, funny that they didn't know how, must be a bunch of naturals," he finished laughed easily "I think they know I know what I'm doing...but I wouldn't put it pass them to do something more..."

He lifted an eyebrow at her sniggering self and just shook his head with a chuckle, knowing she was only joking and found it rather funny itself.
"No thanks Kay, I did my time cleaning out stall," he replied fluidly with a dimpled flash of a smile "I'll stick with the teaching if you don't mind."

Grabbing his 'cowboy' hat from the table beside him, he rested it gracefully on his head and nodded quickly to her request, glad that she wanted to still hang around him.
"Of course, I'd offer you a lift if you didn't have a car....maybe you'll go out with me on the trails?" he suggested, gesturing for her to lead the way out the door and opened the coffee shops door for her, always the gentleman.

She grinned at Reid, her whole face lighting up as she threw a teasing pout in his direction, grabbing her coffee cup and draining the last drops. Kay gracefully got to her feet, brushing off her hands onto her jeans, before turning round to grab her bag. She slung it over a shoulder, nodding at him in thanks, as her heart fluttered, partly in relief that he did not reject her offer. Or was he just being polite, afraid to tell her no?

Kay frowned at that, looking up at Reid and thanked him for his offer. “Thanks,” she said delightedly. “I haven’t got much savings yet. Only got out of high school not even half a year ago,” she said grimancing. “I haven’t exactly had a chance to save up for these things yet.”

Well, the first thing she would do was buy a horse. And then, maybe a car. But then again…

Kay shook herself out of her reverie, a genuinely pleased smile lighting up her face as she nodded again at Reid. “I’d totally love to!” she grinned delightedly, walking beside him to the door. “Thanks so much for the offer!”

Was it weird of her to feel this pleased about going riding with Reid? She looked up, thanking him graciously for holding open the door for her, as she slipped out, waiting for him.

Head cocked, she studied him, a warm smile slipping on her face. No, she decided, feeling the warmth seep through her once more. No, she didn’t think so.

He smiled slightly when she spoke of having not enough savings and knew exactly where she came from, for he had put himself though school, though college and university while running his own breeding farm. At least...until it had been burned down.

At the mention of being out of school for only a year and a half, he blinked in surprise, studying her once more. He knew she was young but not that young, then again there would only be a few years gap between him and her.
"No problem," he smiled, throwing a hand towards the dusty white ute before them "there's my ride."
He grinned with a waggle of his eyebrows and unlocked the aging car and opening her door for her before slipping into his own side.

"To the school," he muttered, arm wrapping around the back of her seat as he looked over his shoulder to reverse out of the parking space and onto the busy morning street.
"Which school horse do you ride?" he asked, not seeming to notice his arm still wrapped around her headrest and snuck a glance over at her before turning back to the road.
