A wide metal spatula is ideal for turning burgers, steaks and fish fillets. Choose one with a long wooden handle and stainless steel blade. A long-handled fork helps lift cooked meats, roasts, and poultry from the grill. Avoid piercing the meat while it's cooking, though, or you may lose tasty juices.

An oven mitt provides protection from hot pans, utensils and the grill itself.
