I know there is a craft section, but since it's not active, I figured I'd ask this in here in hopes more people will see it. I was just wondering if any of you know of or have done pin rusting before & what you used & how long it took? I wasnt to make safetey pins rusty for crafts. TIA. |

I do not know how to rust safety pins. I mean, I've never had the need to rust them. But, I searched online and found this, not sure if it helps, but hope it does. Rusting Safety Pins Safety Pin Rusting (Nickel) I hate to sound like my mom, and state the obvious and what EVERYONE most likely know. But, always be careful when it comes to these chemicals. Ya don't want to accidentally mix these and get sick out of it. gross.gif |

I soaked them in vinegar for a while, then in water for a ew days & they started to rust, but it was mostly just rust in the water. This was what my MIL told me to do... Hubby said thay it needs oxygen too, so if it stays underwater the whole time that it would take even longer... I just remembered something though - I have this cookie sheet that starts to rust the countertop in no time if it sits overnight on it a little wet... SO - I dumped the pins on the sheet & put a little water on it & gonna see if that does anything... I saw some new rust starting, so maybe in a couple days they'll be what I want... Thanks for your help froggie. |

Yes - I noticed the move... LoL I only put it in general so people more people would see it faster as I mentioned in my original post. :oD Anywho - yeah - fun ride... The cookie sheet thing is working, but VERRRRRY slowly... I was hoping for a much faster route, but o well. Mike - for crafts - Duh! LoL [I do primitive crafts - i.e. old looking stuff - hense the rust ;o) ] |
