For easy cleanup, spray the inside of your slow cooker crock with nonstick cooking spray before adding ingredients. You can also purchase specially made plastic cooking bags designed for slow cookers. The bags can go straight into the freezer with the leftovers.

There is no need for constant attention or stirring when you cook in a slow cooker. As a matter of fact, unless the recipe instructs you to do so, do not remove the lid while cooking. The heat that escapes can add almost another half-hour to the cooking time.

I'll just go ahead and add my advice in this thread instead of making another one.

Herbs and Spices:

You may use whole herbs and spices when using your slow cooker. The flavor and aroma of crushed or ground herbs may lessen during the extended cooking time with the slow cooker. If you prefer colorful fresh herbs, add them during the last 15 minutes of cooking time.
