Born in Liverpool, but left for Rhodesia post WW11. After a while, joined the BSAP. Rhodesia's famous Police Regiment. I had a friend in The Liverpool City Police Force. His name was John Downes (sp) wondering where he is now??? |

My best man was ex Liverpool Police Constable Keith Forster, originally from Darlington. He went to Rhodesia, joined the Police Service but was disallusioned with the "class" divisions that existed in that country-upper class, middle class, lower class and non whites. Ordinary police officers in his opinion were not far from the bottom of the class system. Along with other officers he did a bunk and sought refuge in the British Embassy in South Africa. His passport was seized and when he repaid the the British Government the cost of the loan to pay his airfare to the UK his passport was returned. He then went to Canada - the last I heard from him in the late sixties was he had become a steward on a train owned by the Canadian Pacific Railways. Anyone any knowledge of his whereabouts ??? |

Neily! The BSAP was a regiment, Right Of The Line, at one time. The discipline was very strict and tough. I was stationed at a rural area, with about 100 square kilometers patrol area. We patroled on foot with +- four days rations and water. Like every other society, there was class distinction, for want of a better word. Maybe your friend was more suitable to being a waiter/steward, than he was to being a policeman in any country! Try logging on to the BSAP Regimental Association site, it may give you a better and more accurate outlook! Steve |
